A devDuck update!
Hey everyone,
First off, thank you to everyone who has purchased a devDuck (or a bunch!) and thanks to all who have given us feedback. @trogus and I are thrilled at the incredible response these ducks have gotten. If you haven’t seen them yet, you can check them out at https://devDucks.com or the devRant Swag Shop (https://swag.devrant.io).
We are trying to process all of the orders as quickly as possible and our goal is to have all current orders out by the middle of this coming week. Many orders have already shipped, but if yours hasn’t, rest assured it will very soon!
If you ordered a Java devDuck or cape, your order might be delayed a bit until the middle of this coming week because Java seems to be a heavily-demanded cape and we needed to get the material shipped in to make more of that, specifically.
So far we’ve gotten some awesome feedback from the community. A short list of possible future additions based on what’s been requested: Go devDuck, Kotlin devDuck, Perl devDuck, Android devDuck, and possibly some devDuck accessories like little hats, sunglasses, headphones, etc. If you have any other ideas just let us know:)
Lastly, please know that even with the launch of devDucks, we remain extremely committed to the devRant product and we have some very exciting big devRant features coming very soon.
Thanks again everyone!28 -
So guess what my little sister got me for my birthday! She actually made an effort to make this cute gift. Maybe in the future I will buy the original one and then I'll have two :319

!rant.
I said I'd do a thanks rant when I reached 50K. Yeah forgot about that one. Then said to myself that I'd do one when I received the devDuck. Well, that failed.
Tomorrow. I'm gathering up ideas now to make a very special/unique thankish rant.
Literally planning stuff for an hour now and writing stuffs down :)
This is gonna be fun!17 -
Thanks DevRant for being my DevDuck...
Was typing a rant when I started to realise the issue that caused me to write the rant :^)1 -
Idea:
What about creating a virtual-devduck?
A duck on the bottom of the screen that sometimes does weird stuff and says something so you can talk to her and try to debug
I want to do this but I don't think it's possible with Java :(28 -
TL;DR: a good friend recently finished building an electric car from scratch with a team and I bought him a C++ devDuck as a congratulations gift!
one of my best friends recently presented at my colleges capstone rollout, and his teams project was to literally BUILD AN ELECTRIC CAR FROM SCRATCH. all the circuits and everything, designed from scratch, and nobody else on the team was very good at software, so he pretty much wrote the software himself. I just ordered him a C++ devDuck as a congratulations gift!8 -
As one of the most important unspoken rules of devRant, I have to show my devSwag 😎
Yesterday I received my stickers and today my hoodie and devDuck :D
As the Linux Lover that I am, and Arch user, I shall name my duck Archie.
I'm super excited to use my hoodie tomorrow, I don't care if the weather says that we will be at 32°C.
Thanks @dfox @trogus9 -
Friend : “What’s a devDuck”
Me: “We’ll use it as a problem solving technique. It’s a technique where if you get stuck, you try to explain the problem to a rubber duck.”
Friend: “Because you don't have the people skills to describe it? Autism levels skyrocketing”
Me: T_T4 -

Hi, guys. My first rant here. Can anyone please tell me where I can get the devDuck? It looks so cute.10

Same days you just need a duck.
Me: map.get(record.Id)
Code: null
Me: no, map.get(record.id)
Code: null
Me: let's grab this record from the map
Code: null
Me: what the flying fuck, take this fucking ID from this fucking RECORD and find it in THIS god forsaken map.
Code: null
Me:.......
Code: 😉
Duck: did it occur to you the ID exists only AFTER the map is created.
Me: you fucking wha..... oh I'm a dick head.7 -
Say hello to <name to be determined>.
Apparently it's tradition to ask for naming suggestions so let's hear em.13 -
Small feature request, but I think it would be cool if you guys could add some devducks with colored capes as well as keep the classic yellow duck as an option inside Desk Items (L).
I know its impractical to add text for obvious readability issues, but I think the base color of the actual capes would be cool, you know to match your current devduck irl :) Maybe keep the classic duck at +100 and have a higher ++ for the devducks with capes? Anyways, I'll just leave this here...
@dfox @trogus
DevDuck Cape Colors:
#222242 // Purple
#b22028 // Red
#f4f6f9 // White
#f4753e // Orange
#171615 // Black
#3a6894 // Blue3 -
My new helper arrived. Note! Check your packing material for the santa hat! I almost threw mine away thinking it was forgotten.
Thanks guys!4 -
hey, i have been there for some time now, love you all and this wonderful community.
You guys gave me so much fun during my long coding night, between two hot chocolate ;)
Finally got my devduck, obviously my productivity will increase by 150% now !
I'm planning to offer the second to my best friend for Christmas, any idea of a fun way to do it ? :)3 -
You can't entice me with your #devRant ducks!
I already have a very special one. I named her Elizabeth...10 -
I haven't been here for a long while but I wanted to peek in because of the dev ducks, cause I thought they would be a great gift for someone and now I found out they're sold out - my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
But now I decided I'm just gonna buy. a rubber duck and DIY it.1 -
Now that we have devDucks with capes, if we get one will be getting also a virtual cape for our virtual devDuck? It would be really nice to have it, just a random idea :)3

It’s my “duck” in a box!

Why is there no devDuck cape for Angular?
Well, If string length was the reason, "ng" would've sufficed.5 -
I've shown my devDuck to other people in my school. At first, they did not understand but I initiated them to how a ducky can be useful and now they're playing with my duck (yeah, duck) and they're so noisy I'm going to regret it1
-
There is no Go devDuck, and it makes me sad :(
I want my Go devDuck!
Stop the oppression of Go!
Viva la Google!4 -
Usually I play some focus music, say "let's do this!" to my devduck (Dave), and start working on stuff. Oh, and lots of coffee.2
-
Hey, dfox & trogus
How about some Haskell/Scala/F#/OCaml/Clojure/Scheme swag? For example, I'd love a Haskell-caped devDuck.
Show us functional programmers some love pls ;_;2 -
Have anyone in Norway/Scandinavia ordered a devduck/apparel from the swag store and can tell me how long it did take? Want to order one, but not until at the start of next year.
-
I was hired about 6 weeks ago to help the company take ownership of a piece of software written by an external team. The whole thing was MEAN stack. I had never done anything extensive in nodeJS, but I am quite comfortable in JavaScript and so there weren't any problems. I even ordered myself a JS DevDuck for my new desk.
Just about 2 weeks after my new DevDuck came in, my boss told me that everything the external team wrote is shit and is going to be thrown out. Instead, we're going to rewrite the whole thing inside the existing middleware in Java. Luckily for me, I am also pretty comfortable with Java, though it has been about 5 years, and I know a bunch has changed. But I'm confident I can do the work.
I guess I need a new cape for my duck. Or maybe I'll just start a duck family.1 -
simple typos does it for me...
like "pyhon" in swag.devrant.com
"This cape (Pyhon) fits any devDuck and measures about 4.5 inches long"2
