Took some time off with the Mrs for our crotch goblin's first birthday and it was wonderful. I properly switched off for the first time since he was born, barely touched a keyboard, went outside, slept. I felt great.
But Jesus H Christ trying to get my mind back into work mode is a slow and difficult process. More coffee please.5 -
Lets create a library.
Lets use that library in a project.
Lets wrap the library call in a wrapper functione to remove duplicate code.
Lets add an overloaded wrapper call that wraps the wrapper call that calls the library to partially undo the duplicate code removal.
Lets add another overloaded wrapper call that wraps the wrapper call that wraps the wrapper call that calls the library to partially undo the duplicate code removal.
How I love it. Not.
Sometimes redundancy makes sense, especially when it are two lines which make it obvious whats going on vs a single line that leads to a fuckton of overloaded wrapper functions.
Sheeesh.
Today in "code monkeys deserve divine punishment".
Another funny thing is creating a Helper class for Junit 5 tests, making it instantiable and adding to it all kinds of shit like testcontainer creation, applications instantiation, mocks, ....
... Then " crying " why the tests are so slow.
Yeah. Logic. Isolation of concerns, each test should be a stand alone complex.
But that would lead to redundancy... Oh no.
Better to create a global state god object.
Some devs... Really amaze me, especially when they argument in ways that makes one really wonder whether they are serious or just brain dead.14 -
nice, 10k reached before sidtheitclown! (that’s all that actually matters, heh)
so, yes, as promised it’s me… chris from chris’ full stack blog.
I think kiki knew this, as I used to be called fullstackchris… though very briefly... don't know why i was ever worried about the old clowns i used to work for knowing my identity here
i’m a host of react round up, and also an ex-futures trader (that life is / was hidden on Twitter), I’ve recently quit because I’m ALSO still building 4ish SaaS products including The Wheel Screener (wheelscreener.com) and CodeVideo (codevideo.io), over my LLC, Full Stack Craft (fullstackcraft.com)
oh yeah, and on top of that i have a full time job in Switzerland (read: not poor boi 38 or 40 hour work week, 42 minimum)
so yeah, its a fucking lot of shit to do and sometimes it’s too much! glad i have this place to vent
so, don’t be too harsh on me… really, 99% of my bitterness comes from the approximate 5 years of my working life (2018-2023) were taken from me by lying business folk type who actually didn’t know what the FUCK they were doing or talking about, even after promising me they did (at two different companies). Listen, I’m all for people telling me iTs a RiSkY VeNTuRe; i get it. But if you say everything is rock solid (like funding, my future employment, etc.) and it is not, then fuck you; you’re just lying to my face, it has nothing to with management vs employee, engineer vs. non-technical - you’re literally just a *bad person* (sorry, mechanical engineering genes and honesty to the core - sue me) To be sure, I was partially at fault - too optimistic, and too gullible, and I’ve have since learned my lesson. but still working on it. (obviously)
but things are look up - my company is running better than ever, the current job is great with insanely smart people
In the end, it’s always the hardcore engineers who are the most honest, hardworking, respectful, and the best to work with - you people know who you are…
Until then… see you in the next rant!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Dutifully signed,

The older I get the more vindictive and intolerant of other people I get. Especially on the road. My passive aggressiveness is off the charts. Tailgaters piss me off the most. They can rot in hell. If you tailgate me I am going to take longer to pass. If you don't, I will speed up a bit and attempt to get out of the way faster. It is petty, but I am fucking done with these pieces of trash. Fuck you and the shit hole you came out of.
I have also found that smiling at the other driver is the worst thing you can possibly do to them. They can't say anything because you didn't flip them off.23 -
Just had a code review where I commented that we should use linq's ".Single()" here because we don't expect or tolerate zero or multiple matches in this scenario and their response was "but copilot says -" and I didn't know so few words could make me so irrationally angry.7

now I’m starting to understand why unit testing is helpful as I’m making more and more features to the existing system I’m beginning to realize that the more shit I add the more chances I have of the existing components to fucking break for no reason this is very annoying and time-consuming11

Sitting at work listening to music, doing absolutely fuck all right now because I ain't got no tickets! All the mfers need to answer me before I can work on their stuff.
Sounds great, no?
It's not. It's hell being unable to do work for me. I need to busy myself with doing random shit so I don't go insane.
Mhh, coffee...
Oh, by the way, Sir Jav'alot is still around too.11 -
My wife and I have a dispute that goes on for two years already — who's the hottest member of Red Hot Chili Peppers, current or previous. I say John Frusciante, she says Flea.6

We had a Christmas party at work. We did a traditional white elephant gift game. I stole some larping swords from one guy, somebody else stole them from me, and another guy named Bilbo stole them and ended up with them.
After the party I am at my desk. Bilbo comes over with the swords and gives them to me. He said, "You looked like you really wanted these." I said thank you. I was really touched by that gesture.
Bilbo had tried to get golf balls during the game and lost them. So I went to the store at lunch today and got him a 12 pack of Titleists for $25. I don't golf, but people I work with say they are good. I left these on his desk. He comes to me later and says, "I cannot accept these. It is just too much money." I said its not too much and explained I was touched by his gesture. He tells me to take them back and get something nice for myself. Which is another nice gesture. Bilbo said when we get back from Christmas break we can do lunch.
So I am a bit baffled. Did I cross a line I shouldn't cross? Is Bilbo just too nice? I was really hoping he would enjoy this. I get it. We are coworkers and not family. I truly respect and like the guy.
Anyway, I am unsure what to do with them. I didn't really want to take them back. I tried to give them to another guy I work with and he wouldn't take them either. One talked about paying for them then decided he didn't want them. I have more shopping to do so I can take them back then. It kind of weirds me out to say $25 is too much money. I can hardly go a day without spending that much on a couple of random small things.9 -

Man, I love Postgres, but one thing I hate about it is its naming scheme.
As far as I know, there is... None.
So I'm always left wondering how certain configuration directives referring to Postgres will be written down as.
Pick your favorite:
Postgres
PostgreSQL
Psql
PgSQL
And maybe more...
Or is there a naming scheme / system I'm not aware of?4 -
Why the hell do you keep commit+push your shit to the master branch! We have develop, feature and hotfix, you *************!
Just because you want to test something in prd environment, you don't mess with the master to build the production image. And you do not even rebase fucking develop branch and keep it out of sync you POS!
Excuse my language, thank you.10 -
omg fuck you
why did you fucking recreate the fucking db migration on the same fucking version you fucking moron in the fucking develop branch you fucker
sorry it's not my fucking day this piece of shit company with the fucking fake developers
crap, I'm also working in the same company, means that I am also a fucking piece of shit developer6 -
When entering a one-holer restroom, someone didn't lock the door, and you have already seen more than you wanted to see. What are your options to react?
1. Say "excuse me" and quickly leave.
2. Chew them out loudly as you walk out.
3. Make really loud horse noises and leave.
4. Use the sink.
I have had this happen to me twice at my current work place. Now, when opening the door I have this procedure:
1. Open door a crack to see if the room light is on.
2. If light is on wait a few seconds for audible notification of occupation.
3. If unoccupied continue to enter.
If you are in the one-holer using the restroom and someone tries the door you also have options:
1. Stay silent Dark Brotherhood style.
2. Laugh maniacally really loudly.
3. If door opens scream like a girl.3 -
I’m getting really tired of all these junior-turn-senior devs who can’t write simple code asking ChatGPT to solve everything for them.
I’m having to untangle everything from bizarre organization/flow to obvious gotchas / missed edge cases to ridiculously long math chains (that could be 1/10th the length), or — and I feel so dirty for this — resorting to asking ChatGPT wtf it was thinking when it obviously wrote some of these monstrosities. Which it gets wrong much of the time.
“ALL HAIL CHATGPT!” Proclaims the head of Engineering. “IT’S OUR PRODUCTIVITY SAVIOR! LEVERAGING AI WILL LET US OUTPERFORM THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY!”
Jesus fucking christ.29 -
It finally happened. One of our junior devs pushed a secrets file to their git branch and now I have to reset ALL THEIR CREDENTIALS. "git add ." will be the death of me.19

In Russian, the difference between "there is an entire legion of us" and "I don't give a fuck" is one whitespace.
