Books and command lines.
I don't like teachers.
I think it's because my learning process is very async and chaotic. When I see a snippet in Golang, I relate it to PHP, Rust and Haskell. I jump to resolving the problem in other languages, trying to find out which approaches work in Go.
Then I read about some computer science concept on Wikipedia and get lost in that while my hunger for knowledge and food increases. After a while I look up a recipe for a pasta salad, and while cutting bell peppers, I see the recipe in terms of typed morphisms, I sprinkle and intersperse ingredients through mapping functions, then decide to write an interpreter for the esoteric "Chef" language in Go so I can interpret my salad recipe while eating it.
Voila, I'm learning Go.
I have no patience for linear mentoring, and others have no patience for mentoring me.
But that's OK.1 -
We can compile, transpile, and do all sorts of fucky internet things through an entire development pipeline and then troubleshoot through all sorts of hackery and dev sorcery to output html.
Or I can just index.php and be done with it.
I dunno man, I dig frontend and using the popular js libs to put shit online and be done without having to deal with the fuckery that is wasm or use something similar to Rust to bring shit to my clients.
9 times out of 10, these dudes have been well served with the php or node or even golang that i give them.
Seems that a lot of tools coming up just make shit harder.
Even VBScript seems simpler compared to the amount of web fuckery going on right now.

Swift Programming Language from Apple
Apple launched a programming language Swift ago at WWDC 2014 as a successor to the Objective-C. Designed to be simple as it is, Swift focus on speed and security.

3. Rust
Rust Programming Language from Mozilla

Rust was developed as an alternative to C ++ for Mozilla itself, which is referred to as a programming language that focus on "performance, parallelisation, and memory safety".

Julia Programming Language

Julia is slowly but surely increasing in terms of users and the average growth doubles every nine months. In the future, she will be seen as one of the "most expensive skill" in the finance industry.

Hack Programming Language from Facebook
Hack is another programming language developed by Facebook in 2014.

At what point can I claim to not be a script kiddie anymore?
Like, I've built compilers, and interpreters for an excel-like syntax, I refactored a pdf-parsing library from the ground up. I managed databases and wrote protocols for communicating with hardware.
But most of my experience is with python / nodejs / golang. It is only recently that I started playing with C and rust for actual efficient system code.8 -
Software engineering doesn't evolving the way you think of it.
There are no new big patterns. There are no new big concepts and ideas to bring that evolution to us. Rob Pike thinks that the concepts he used twenty years ago are the best possible way of implementing everything and he creates Golang.
The evolution of software engineering, and maybe the whole evolution as a concept is a tick-tock. Software engineering had its latest tick at nineties, when the concepts we call modern were developed. And the latest tock was the rise of the internet, and it given the single-computer-centered Von Neumann architecture really hard challenges. I mean ticks are theoretical inventions and patterns and ideas and etc, while tock is more of some practical, business-oriented implementations.
PHP is still in use. We have troubles with scaling and deployment. Banking systems still run old Java, Windows XP and even COBOL. We had persistence really, really long time ago, and now frontenders reinvent it and call it 'immutability'!
We had our tick many, many years ago. It's time for tock. With not only scientific but commercial use of things such as Clojure, CRDTs and maybe Rust lang, we are heading straight to our new big tock, which'll bring us new great problems to solve.

I've been a dedicated Golang programmer for a few years now.
But lately I learned rust, and now even the thought of garbage collection makes me davastated :(1 -
Ok Rust help you write robust safe code and is very fast.
But at what cost ?
But why on earth the syntax is very disgusting. It takes time to familiarize with the horrible syntax.
And I feel like the sadistic rust cult members actually enjoy making it hard to read so that they can jump on any occasion to shout at you : you still lacking rustlang skills
Fuck that shit I'd rather write in golang or just deal with C++ . At least their syntax doesn't make me wanna puck11 -
I love C and C++ but their dependency management stuck, there’s a package manager for them which offers a nice experience comparable to Go or Rust?4

WTF, Rust. You are so fucking hard to write, and TBH, your docs are not understandable. Please writte your docs to be understandable, and make it fun to read, like golang does.
WTF, Rust. I am now looking, for 5 hours straight, for a solution for reading stdin into a variable. Nothing. 6 fucking solutions for 6 different rust versions of which not one works. Nothing is readable. Explain the philosophy of you language! What the hell is this?! Is your language based on the C family? On which is it based?! fucking idiots6 -
I saw a video on tiktok a couple days ago that had a pretty interesting opinion. The guy said that we should stop creating programming languages and stick to only a couple.
His main point was because with all these different programming languages, there is different syntaxes the programmer has to learn. Even some of the universal syntaxes are different in some languages. For example, in Rust, to print something you use “println!(...);”
He said this is counter productive because in a majority of other programming languages, the ! Means negation. He also said something about Golang also having some of those syntax problems but I can’t remember exactly.
His point was that if we stuck to a single syntax, then we could spend more time doing productive stuff and less time relearning how to do stuff with different syntax. For example, in mathematics all symbols have pretty much the same meaning across the field. An equals sign will always mean the same thing.
What do u guys think? I thought it was an interesting opinion and I think I agree to some degree . I’ll post the link to the video if I find it again23 -

a compiler found a type error, oh thank god i was not using python or even worse js. this could have been hard debug error, type do matter huh!. what if compiler was even strict that could have found more error and i could really write even safe code. Ohh may be i should learn/finish Rust

Language wise any books on C, GoLang, Python, Rust, and LUA are welcome
And topic wise I’m interested in books about computer science theory, network programming, low level programming, and backend programming are welcome.
I know it’s a wide variety of topics but some are stuff Im currently doing, I’ve already messed with and just really want to learn more or focus on, or plan to do it when I get around to it6 -
Ryan Dahl working on Deno is one of the current interesting projects that I have been following.
Initially, the dude was trying to use Golang and is currently migrating to cpp and rust since Golang is a gc language. Nothing wrong with that really. I am just excited to see what this man comes up, and Typescript as the main language? Fuck yeah.
This shit js gonna be bomb af. Happy to see him talk to openly about his flaws when building Node, which was still a massive success and a true game changer for a lot of people(me included) and I believe that Deno will repeat this. It already has 24k stars on Github and tracking the repo has become very interesting! I just wish i had the cpp/rust knowledge needed to help out with it.3 -
Any good programming language with great generics support that is not dynamic ?
Rust generics sucks so much I puked 2 times.
Tried with swift and it looks great.
Golang doesn’t have them.
Java sucks.
Maybe I try julia if someone say it’s cool.
I want to implement some 2d vector algebra and simple physics engine.
I started by creating generic 2d vector and trying to create dot product from it.
I didn’t wanted to do it in swift but wasted 2 days trying to do it in rust vs 1 hour in swift including 49 minutes of installing swift tools.
Anyway anyone know performant language with good generics support, let me know in comments.39 -

I'm a web developer.
I build web apps using JS/TS, vue.js and some Go in the backend
But I'm not that kind of dev who knows how a compiler work, and I usually get lost when I read a comment written by that guy 100110111.
Weeks ago, I started looking for a new language to learn, I tried Rust, Nim, V, I spent 30 minutes on the haskell homepage doin' the "learn haskell in 5 minutes"
I really wanna learn a new language, because I love learning new things.
Even if many of you here did not agree that Vlang could become a great language, I liked it and I'm following it waiting for the v1.0 maybe it's gonna achieve all its promises.
There is some other languages that I wanna learn too, like Nim and Zig.
What makes me like a language ?
1- the simplicity of syntax
2- performance (benchmarks)
3- the possibility to build anything with it
Now I'm wondering if it's a good thing to swap between languages like this, without knowing exactly what I'm gonna do with it, and what should I do to stop hesitating and stick with one language
...
what I really want, is to learn a language so good that can be used on servers (web backend) and on desktop (cros platform)7 -
starting out with a couple coroutines to spare is literally the worst bad habit I've got from golang and that's a compliment. rust, for example, got my over engineering OCD thru the roof!1

I want to try golang, but as I tried Rust before Go, I really loved that cargo creates a full project with necessary files with just a single command. is there any CLI like cargo for golang?2 -
Is programming a website/basic backend program in TypeScript with NodeJS actually a good idea? Or should you be programming it in C#, Rust, (not PHP), Golang, etc?
I personally feel like NodeJS has pretty amazing performance considering how much less code you would write compared to the other options. Although I feel something like Rust (haven't used it yet) would be more robust but more work.
Note: I only currently know JS, TS, C#, Go and obviously HTML, CSS9
