Suddenly my KDE neon installation didn't want to start anymore. (emergency recovery shell)
Immediately searching for solutions, praying for the best...
Saw a suggestion about removing any custom /etc/fstab entries. Removed an entry i added earlier today.
Boots again right away, fuck yeah, Linux, I fucking love you ❤︎6
Just moved, new room, let's try to setup port forwarding!
Well, i thought that too. Just spent hours trying to get this motherfucker to work. Tutorials, everything.
Every time that damn can't connect error. About to lose my shit.
Suddenly *hold on, is Apache installed on my new KDE Neon installation?!*
Got my VisionTek Radeon 7750 today! Held my breath during the amd drivers installation on Linux (KDE Neon) but it all went well.
Rebooted, all screens (4 right now? upgrading to 6 soon) black.
Closed eyes, opened after 10 seconds and BAM, first display is working.
After some settings tweaking I've got 4 monitors up and running now, waiting for new hardware for two more.
Also waiting for a hex monitor stand ❤.
AMD, thanks for providing stable and working drivers for Linux for free!14
Downloaded Kubuntu because i couldn't seen to be able to boot from a freshly created KDE Neon bootable usb.
Installed it onto my netbook (Lenovo Thinkpad X121E) and it worked great!
But just the fact that somehow the installer froze when trying to setup hdd encryption kept bugging me.
Took a random flash drive which was laying around and put it in to see what would happen. KDE Neon booted just like this and everything worked very well with hdd encryption.
I now have a very secure netbook 😊15
Question: I'd like to choose a new distro for my surface.
Although I do shitloads of terminal stuff, I'm an eye candy lover. Debian based please :)
I can deal with problems myself if they occur.
Anyone any ideas? (KDE neon/kubuntu/nitrux/mint have already been tried)19
Obviously this year. I went from KDE Neon (bloat ree) to Arch, learnt Git, Golang, vim, some JS, did my first major public project (asl), learnt how to package python stuff, did my first collab (private repo with a friend), did my first public collab (animator), made 225 contributions on GitHub (so far), won the "Most Technical" award in my Science Fair, went on climate protests, and sh*t-tons more.
And I joined devRant!
I'm excited for 2020!1
How many of you uses Linux? I personally used for the first time Antergos (that discontinued, memed, arch based distros) with kde, then I started using Manjaro with gnome, as Manjaro was unsupported by most of the communities because it was arch based, I decided to move to Ubuntu, I sticked around on Ubuntu with gnome and then I installed i3, omg I loved i3 so much, after months of Ubuntu with i3 I decided to try new desktop environments/distros, so I installed xubuntu, xfce was boring, but efficient, just perfect! Then I installed kde neon, just to try it out! Now I still have kde neon and I'm thinking about trying Debian!
What about you?15
So, this poor fucker right here has spent 3 hours straight trying to install KDE Neon AGAIN, FOR THE 14TH TIME AS OF TIME OF WRITING on an old 0.5TB hard drive with some GiB-wise partitioning size and apparently the disk doesn't like it.
Can someone give me a dildo so I can fuck myself more because life is not fucking me hard enough? No lube needed kthanksbye11
LEGIT FUCK ME!
So I use KDE Neon RN. One day, it randomly doesn't boot. Checked logs, sddm was fucked. Reinstalled. Everything worked fine for a day, next day: fucked. Reinstalled, disabled sddm (auto login) and then a day later: basically no services start / are missing and random parts of the os randomly crash.
Wtf do I do 😢17
So now i have Linux installed everything is better than Windows but i want to program in c#... Should i use a VM or a Dual Boot with Windows and KDE Neon?15
Finally decided on a distro to begin with!
I have been looking at a lot of distros lately and didn't really know what I want or need in depths. So I chose KDE neon, I know it's not like a full featured distro, but I think it will be good for the start and I'll find out what I need and then will probably transist to a distro with my needs in a few months.7
Man, I love i3wm/Xfce but I miss the flashiness of KDE. I think I'll try out KDE Neon in a vm and mull over the week if I should switch back...
I want to switch from Windows to KDE Neon. Do you have some tips? Because it's my first Linux installation and i don't want to make something wrong :)6
Has someone an idea why KDE Neon has this buggy text rendering and how to fix it? Google is not my friend with this problem.. It's often the text which is buggy but sometimes everything else is buggy too..9
Let me begin by giving props to the KDE team for being proactive, and working to improve the ecosystem in which they exist.
With that said, I'm sitting here wondering why bigger organizations - companies with significantly more clout - can't manage to do the same thing. Canonical is so busy, fapping at the notion of competing in the mobile space (they won't though) that they've lost sight of their core audience - computer users. While they insist on trying to piss in Google's Cheerios, smaller teams are 1) pushing out better firmware and software, and 2) are now creating (seemingly) good hardware as well.
As the public face of Linux (unfortunately), Canonical and the Ubuntu team have an obligation to lead from the front. In neglecting to do so, they do a disservice to the entire Linux community. KDE, Manjaro, Arch, Mate, Debian, etc are all doing more with less, and they're offering better end products than Canonical has in the last decade.
It's not the best but it's mine.
Distro: KDE Neon.
What do you guys use?
For those who are curious.
Tonight I spent 5 hours installing arch. After seeing everything go smoothly I do the final reboot, only to watch the grub command line appear on the screen. I tried to boot into my arch installation but it kept talking about kernels missing and stuff. I thought I learned a ton but Fuck me. Now I'm installing neon kde just so I have my fucking linux desktop ready. Maybe someday I'll make it...3
Fuck fuck fuck
Linux mint disconuting kde version
18.3 will be last version with official mind kde 😭
I always prefer mint kde rather than kubuntu
In my own experience I always found mint kde more stable than kubuntu
And I loved mint update software
Probably go with the now kde neon or back to elementary !
I used elementary for 2 years or so I installed kde mint last year and that's what I like the most now 😒
Not a gnome fan
Will try arch again 😄
Manjaro kde is good too so.4
Finding a good Linux distro, part 3:
I am happy now. KDE Neon running very smoothly and...now you certainly will not believe me, but with least memory. 400MB of RAM after start up. That is stunning! Stock Ubuntu runs about 800-900MB on the same machine, holy shit!4
Just installed Nvidia drivers on my KDE Neon (Ubuntu) and now only one monitor work on my dual monitor setup.
What's the most stable distro/flavour I could use? After working with neon KDE for a bit and havin to fix stuff, from grub to system drivers, I just don't have much time left for actual coding in my spare time. Should a I just go for Ubuntu?9
