I once changed all my error messages to say “Processed successfully” because I had a demo yet the software was very buggy.
I bought myself time to fix the bugs later.

Well, the OS that is my brain has an official uptime of 19 years... It's gotten pretty buggy, I'm not sure what the devs were thinking with half the features...12

6 failed tests
5 help forums
4 broken dependencies

And 1 keyboard smashed in rage 🎶
This little carol is dedicated to the buggy-as-fuck nodejs project I was given for fixes and updates.

So I'm cleaning up some buggy Java code when suddenly this dandy fine line appears:
if (new Double(a).toString() == "1.3") ...
Someone got paid for this :|10 -
I was playing Science trivia with Google assistant. Looks like she didn't want me to get all 5 answers right.

2: how accurate is it?
1: not very, it is pretty buggy.
2: how did the bugs get in there?

Yes, Mr. Client. It is extremely wise of you to demand changes on release-day. Of course it won't go smoothly, untested and buggy as it will be.

Ticket : "I have a blank page when I load this page"
I open the script (php), I see at least 7 nested foreach loop starting with a 2600+ long array. I spot the buggy loop. I mark the ticket "may need refactoring". I go drink a beer with colleagues. -
Intel: our new 12th gen CPU beats Ryzen in gaming!
Also Intel: benchmarks on a buggy version of Windows 11 that takes a big performance hit on Ryzen.

So, I got a recall notice for my car today. Because of brake problems? No. Because of air bag issues? No. Because spontaneously combust while hurtling down the freeway? No. Because the software developers pushed out buggy code. My car is being recalled for a software bug! I kid you not.9

An overflow in C, the program was writing 16 Bytes in an array of length 10 due to some mistake.
The problem was this ended up overwriting another place in the memory that was used by another algorithm to perform calculations... So we thought that the algorithm was buggy all along.2 -
iOS 11 you buggy piece of shit!
Layouts breaking all around, can’t figure out if it’s in landscape or portrait mode, lock menu disapearing, minimizing apps breaks them...
Oooh, you invented a GENIUS NEW option to turn mobile data on from launch control, but WiFi and Bluetooth buttons don’t turn these off, but disconnect from current network... WHOSE SMART ASS IDEA WAS THAT? BURN IN UX HELL ASSHOLE!
Haven’t seen a worse update since Vista...6 -
Friend (girl) of my friends realized that I’m a programmer and dated me. She wanted me to hack her ex boyfriend Facebook account.
She abused/used me sexually as long I explain to her that programmers aren’t hackers and I can’t hack fb account.
I feel bad for her! 😂😂4 -
My company’s code base is so messy that the dev branch and master branch is so buggy. But they put the blame on me as usual.
I use git blame, I wasn’t the author .7 -
"Let's make a Minecraft Server !"

"Yaaay great idea"
It ended in a week with a very little plugin and a buggy mod but I made some friends like this1 -
People at Apple must have put an enormous amount of time and effort into the development of iOS 11. It's impossible to make an OS so fucking buggy and shitty as 11 without spending a lot of time on it to purposely make it crap.5

I have been playing skyrim on my switch. The reason is simple, family watches movies or whatever, and I get to sit comfortably in my little screen shooting mofockas with my bow(i made an archer build)
Its my first time playing the game after all these years and I love it, far better than I expected. The story is great and the side quests are fun instead of boring, it does not take much to learn how to craft, enchant etc and I dig the simplicity.
But it has got to be one of the buggiest glitchiest majorly famous game I had ever played. Literally, and I have it for both the ps4 and the switch and it still is so fucking buggy its unbelievable.5 -
My grandmother think I'm a hacker and i can hack banks, police and state department systems.
Her friends think I can start WWIII while i can hack military systems (think nuclear weapons) ...
I feel bad for them.1 -

Why is Drupal so hard to learn?!!!!!!
It feels like you are learning an entirely new language. Yes it makes hard things simple, at the same time making simple things hard to accomplish.
And also modules are buggy, you would fix bugs instead of doing your tasks.
I want to learn Drupal but I guess it is not friendly for beginners like me.12 -
Every Website seem to has some glitches... and you can't ignore them like non-web-devs do... i wish i could look up the menu on a local restaurant-website without going crazy about the buggy slider or the misaligned address-div

You know what sucks? Being forced by your teacher to use his crappy e-learning platform which isn't even close to final and therefore completely buggy. Oh you clicked in that compiler window? Nah now you can't click back in the editor window, better save and reload the page again. And thats only the beginning...5

Had an issue running through someone else's buggy code and my PM told me to "use a goto to fix it up, those always used to help me in school". Can a recruiter on here throw me a bone and get me out of this place?

iOS11 is so buggy that it is actually ridiculous. How does a company that is worth so many billions of dollars manage to release such patchy software. Hang your head in shame Apple. If anyone hasn’t updated from iOS10 yet, hold on till iOS11.0.1
And this is without me even getting into how horrible the dev experience with Xcode has been so far 😡17 -
Fucking teams.
It's shit, it's buggy, it's confusing, threaded conversations suck when there are multiple ones going on because stuff appears out of order and is easily missed.
I hate it with a passion.5 -
Why do people feel so compelled to create their own custom components when the component library you're already using HAS ONE ALREADY?!
You can change the styling and animations using CSS and props. Stop building buggy shit from scratch.7 -
my friend was bragging how he could program a game on his TI-84 calculator
it was just a (buggy) random number game
I told him good job, I program a bit, too
he said "yeah? what do u do?"
I said "I made two apps"
he walked away
I thanked god -

Samsung has a bug in their galaxy software that essentially makes you unable to store anything that's not in the root folder on an additional sd card. After 2 years, they still have the bug. Additionally some phones will shit themselves if you try to format an sd card with it
How the fuck can they just leave significant bugs. The whole just get a new phone every other year mentality/industry style is both wasteful and seems to contribute to garbage software7 -
Forget most useless feature, an entire, year long product. Me (at the time very junior) and a principle engineer, wasted a year bundling our product as a plugin in a third party app. 3 years later, we'd sold 2 licences. It was a buggy pile of hell.

Seriously I think the Slack apps are really among the worst I have ever had to use. That is both on mobile (iOS) and desktop (Mac). It’s super slow thanks to Electron Desktop and super buggy on mobile. Connection Speed is really slow as well.
I just hate it.8 -
One of my colleagues just tried to deny a buggy code change was his on the grounds that the new code contains logging and he never uses logging.2

i always assume that my code is right so when the compiler gives an error, its hard for me to find out why it gives an error and why it doesnt work. my mind is too convinced that it is correct.

Question / Suggestions.
CPU : AMD or Intel ?
GPU : AMD or Nvidia ?
I want to build a High-end PC (Desktop).18 -
This literally happened in my current team, and I'm not even an experienced dev yet.
Incident happened like this :
Our team is working on a RCP based on eclipse plugins, which has a headless mode and a GUI mode. Now, in the GUI mode, my manager cum architect thought there are no need of user log files (long story) because the user can see the info on screen, whereas in the headless mode, she wanted me to print the logs onto the console and a log file as well.
Now it just so happened that our team had got a recent addition as a replacement to our lead developer (she left the company) who claimed she had 3 years of expertise and a masters degree, and she was assigned a task. The task was to format a custom file we were generating out of the product (basically dumping info in a file) in a human-readable format. Miss new-addition-masters-degree decided it would be a very good idea to redirect the standard java output stream to a file output stream ( which she used for generating the formatted file ) but somehow never realized that she needed to reset the output stream back to standard output.
Consequences were devastating. I wrote the logic for the logger ( yes, apparently any available logging mechanism won't do it, again, long story ) and had it printing to a file in tmp directory. The logs seemed to be working fine initially but after a few logs, specifically from the point where the formatter started working, all the logs got printed in the formatted file. And this file was supposed to be used by our clients to develop something on top of it. Naturally, I got the heat of it and then naturally, worried and nervous and curious and in a frenzied state of mind, I started debugging.
When I got to the actual fault, I seriously could not decide whether to cry or laugh or call up miss masters and scream at her. I decided to ask her about what the hell she had written and her answer was most of it was written by the developer she replaced, so she didn't know it would cause this much problem. Anyway, I fixed the leak after that and averted the catastrophe.
And that, fellow devs, is the story of how I solved a crisis in my first year at corporate.1 -
My lecturer gave us a piece of very buggy software with no API which we use to model computer networks. It literally says in the assignment specification "Your program must run for at least 60 seconds before crashing."
These people are setting us up for failure.2 -
Remember /dev/rant for devrant (https://devrant.com/rants/1569303) ? :)
Here's the first version of it: https://gitlab.com/netikras/... . read-only, with some hacks.
Oh, and if anyone needs a pure-shell library for json -- feel free to use it :) Bear in mind it might still be buggy.2 -
Why is NetworkManager in Ubuntu so buggy? I really hate it. Makes me even miss Windows. Desktop with random freezes and the super intelligent resolvd can't even resolve shit. So I can't connect to VPN to work, so I gotta reboot a damn Linux machine to make it work. Why this Linux Desktop decay? Why?11

Grab app notifications system sucks to the max. Actually the whole Grab app sucks when it compared to Uber.
But fucking Uber is expensive and high and all mighty. They are like hey our app is the best, so use if you want or fuck off.
Grab. They are not expensive and they do shit tons of promotions and gives much more coupons. But all the news are sent to that buggy NOTIFICATIONS page and that fucking page is buggy as shit.
I wonder that they are doing it intentionally. Hey give lots of promotions. Just make it hard as fuck for people to access and use it. -
So marketing department what our team to create a payment gateway from scratch, and must use our own programming language...

Everytime I scroll through here I see people complaining about JS and frameworks being made for it. Well think about it, would you rather have to use old buggy JavaScript or help the community and the language achieve better standards? Just look at ES6 and ways to write code and JavaScript really isn't that bad. It's just misunderstood.3

After the last update, devRant has been a bit buggy for me..
App lock screen freezes for a few seconds and after that nothing works until I restart the app... :/
Single touch on home button opens up Google Assistant when devRant is unresponsive:2 -
God damnit! It's been a while since I lost changes. Let alone saved changes! (I'm a ctrl+s presser)
I committed my changes in git (through the VS team explorer). I got a nice error message saying that an exception occurred. I clicked "OK", as though I accepted it :/ didn't have a choice.
Then gone. All my changes since the commit before that. Only an hour work, but still. It was hard work.
Ctrl+z of course didn't work haha 😥2 -

After merging 2 branches, Git randomly decided not to merge one particular line (the place where my newly defined function was called) and that caused a fixed bug to reappear. First time in 4 years I am witnessing Git do something strange like this— probably an issue in the “merge by ort strategy”.5

Refactoring the whole day.
Someone who prefers while(list(...) = each(...)) or for($x=0; $x < count($array); $x++) wrote the following code, too.
if ($indexed == null || $indexed == "0" && $row[$x]["indexed"] == 0 || $indexed == "1" && $row[$x]["indexed"] == 1) ....
It's buggy. Why does this not surprise me?
This stuff. Whole day.
My brain feels foggy.5 -
Any Dutch devRanters going to Paaspop?

woow PHPStorm is such an incredibly buggy piece of shit .... how can anyone work with such a buggy IDE?
It randomly looses settings on restart. A lot of functionality is just so poorly tested. Anyone ever really tried to work with the integrated DB tool?
Or the CSV plugin? there are countless bugs in both usability and function-wise.
But I guess that's because it's just plugins ... you know .. you don't need to use them ...
Is the PHP code formatter a plugin too? Guess I don't have to use it at all, if it randomly scrambles whole lines if I format with a missing } or some other improper syntax. Right, overall it's my fault, right??
Fuck you PHPStorm, and you IntelliJ too. you're not better at all.12 -

I had a second stage technical interview for a job today. I met three devs who prodded my experience and gave me a task to do (design a complete system architecture for registering sheep, I got ten minutes). I think it went well because after the interview they invited me out for dinner!
Feels good! I might become a consultant soon. -

git commit -m "FIXME: [bug description]

Yesterday,
I was reading the code from my mentor and plugging it into my project.
I noticed a statement that at that moment seemed buggy to me.
Asked my mentor if that's needed, he looked at it and said no it's not needed remove it and said thank you to me.
Later, I noticed that statement wasn't extra at all, but some part of my code was not as it was supposed to be hence that statement seemed buggy.
I should be telling this to my mentor but i liked that thank you. :/ what will happen when he finds out that ?? lol2 -

"docker-compose is already the newest version (1.25.0-1)" after apt-get upgrade docker-compose. Actually there is 1.29.1 which includes the bugfixes I wanted, but apt seems to prefer the buggy version for stable LTS Ubuntu at least. Wasted 3 hours with seemingly broken repositories until I found out.1

Don't spend your time trying to learn everything you need to know by reading books or watching videos. Anything you don't use immediately you'll forget and it'll go to waste. Instead, learn the bare minimum required for getting started and make stuff! After writing some buggy spaghetti code that somehow works, you're ready to read/watch some more. Then rinse and repeat.

Oneplus 5 suffers from battery drain with OOS 4.5.8.
Reverted to OOS 4.5.6, gaining better battery life, but a WiFi drain is still here and although I get through the day and more, it bugs me a lot.
Today I woke up thinking about updating to 4.5.8 again just because I'm an update maniac.
Gosh why can't I leave it alone?
(I have considered modding but for now I don't really want to go back on that road again because of laziness)1 -

I'm in love with F#, the tooling can be a little buggy if you're used to TypeScript or Java but before learning it I've never been able to solve a real life problem with less than 10 lines of code7

When the developers trust a stupid, laggy, buggy mobile emulator more than chrome emulator, seeing shit that's ONLY reproduceable in said emulator. Driving me fucking nuts.

any good tool which can make my usb boot able? Trying to install majaro.
Elementary os is so buggy6 -
Am I the only to have bad mojo with Android 7? It loses 4g network all the time, restarts, is generally slow... It's like they follow the Microsoft release model, one version stable (4), next one buggy and bad (5), then nice again (6), and now bad (7)...

So apparently the most recent version of xcode is buggy? I just got the new macbook pro with the touchbar and was excited to dive into ios app development. Should i wait to download xcode until the issues are fixed? Any xcode users out there?1

So, I did the silly and tried Freelancer.com. The chat is really fucking buggy, my client has paid me but I can't see the payment in my account, and their live chat system has a timestamping problem that means you can't actually ask for help. What do I do? The money in there was ideally supposed to pay my bills this month...2

Anyone else using ownCloud client on linux? The client is pretty buggy.
I recently got a new laptop and now I'm downloading all my files from my ownCloud instance. Might take a while though with my slow (free) home network.2 -
For those of you that do use Firefox developer edition, any of you noticed that the last versions are quiet buggy around development tools, like css preview of a class that doesn't update when you select a different piece of HTML?1

The freecodecamp beta is so ****ing buggy, all I want to do is brush up on my JavaScript and learn a little ES6 and nothing works and their validation is so terrible that I have to bring my code out and validate it somewhere else to make sure I’m doing it right. This isn’t a beta, it’s an alpha1

Suddenly VisualStudio throws "Attempted TextBuffer edit operation while another edit is in progress." for every keystroke editing a C# source code that I could edit without a problem just a few minutes ago. WTF?!2

Why is Drupal counter intuitive and unwelcoming! Why make it hard for new comers!
If you are looking for a feature, you have to code it anyway. So much code under the hood but you always end up using contributed modules or create your own. fck fck fck. So many buggy modules.

Papaly. It's the closest to what I really want in cloud bookmarks. There have been some outages recently and the bookmark info retrieval script is terribly buggy at times, but it usually does what I want it to, which is give me visual tables of bookmarks. I still haven't found anything I like better.3

!rant
My phone is buggy. I just accidentally downvoted a rant. Crap. Sorry whoever's rant that was. I don't even know what I downvoted it for. Any way I can find out what I've downvoted?2 -
Why is there no music player for Linux with a clean, organized UI and only the basic features? (showing album covers, search, sorting by genre, artist etc)? All players so far are either buggy, look like shit, or have some cloud sync stuff .. I just want a simple mp3 player man D:14

September : started programming in xamarin Android. Slow, buggy and undocumented as hell.
October :getting used to Android. Might be nice after all.
November :started programming at ios.
December 2nd:still can't comment on it. Program hasn't finished compiling yet. -
Unity is the worst! Every single version of it has some kind of bug that prevents some piece of what I'm working on to be buggy. 5.3.4 seems the most stable, as far as the app working, but likes to crash on me several times a day on Mac OS. I'm really tired of this.

who ever developed a cluster fuck of this platform called zoho cliq

What are some easy to use end to end encrypted chat apps as an alternative to SignalApp? It’s been super buggy lately and need an alternative. It has to work on iPhone.9
