"I don't have enough bandwidth to watch the twitch stream, is there a way to get the audio only?"
"yes, start the stream and turn off the monitor"
*sigh*6 -
I'm thinking about doing a live coding stream on twitch this saturday, late afternoon or evening (CET).
I've never done a live stream before.
Do you have any suggestions or interests?
I'm thinking about something like a small RESTful API with Angular4/TypeScript (frontend, single page application) and CraftCMS/PHP (backend) with somebasic theory about HTTP requests / response, redirecting, data transfer and interfaces et cetera...
The duration will be around 2-4 hours, maybe longer if I have enough Mate & Beer.
But it's all just an idea at the moment. 😉
I will create an empty project for the stream on my Github and push to it during streaming, so you can pull it live or later.17 -
Byron (reckful) has committed suicide. He was one of the first big streamers on Twitch and a game developer.
He was suffering from depression and has been for quite some time. He always appears happy around friends. He did "joke" about committing suicide on his last stream. Watching the clip makes it obvious that there was some truth to the "joke".
Also, remember that you never know what someone online is suffering from or how that person may interpret a joke. Be careful and think about how your message is received.
Please seek help if you have suicidal thoughts or even signs of depression. It's not a sign of weakness. We all need help sometimes.7 -
The Linux Kernel is propably the best working example for open source.
Personally I had the most exciting experiences with open source games, like Super Tux Cart, OpenTTD, 0 A.D.
Once I watched a streamer playing OpenRCT2, but the Twitch integration server, which allows to have the names of the people in chat appear in the game, was offline. Because the game is open source, I was able to have a look at the API, write my own server in a couple of hours and share it. Was a really funny stream then!
Wine is a great project, too. I really like the idea that people cooperate with each other to bypass commercial limitations and on this way be able to play their favourite games on a free operating system. -
Alright, so I am going to start doing dev streams
twitch.tv/retraxa
I am going to stream with @ewpratten at some point tonight. Were gonna be working on robot code and my personal website. I have literally 0 reputation on Twitch so if this doesn't work out I can't really loose. If y'all wanna stop by and give us some stuff to converse about, cool articles or extreme politics and our belief systems go ahead.7 -
I'm doing a short 1 hour livestream on twitch on installing CraftCMS, plugin development and maybe Angular 4 setup, if there is enough time.

I found a way to make me procrastinate less on my own projects today! Stream development of it to Twitch.
Yes, there may be nobody watching most of the time; yes there may be nobody interested in a wall of text and no voice; but you just feel the need to stay on-topic when streaming, and I kinda liked it.undefined or... you know... youtube gaming could work stream the world is watching you... maybe not procrastination hobby twitch3 -
The fires in australia killed something like half a billion animals, and it's kind of sad, all that potential barbecue going to waste.
We have the means to solve this. With KNAWWWWLEDGE.
What we do is hook up buckets to a bunch of big ass drones and have some sort of contest to see who can put out the most acreage of fire. People will come from all over for the annual "australian fire olympics."
Shit, put a $1 million dollar bounty on "most acreage put out" stream it on twitch, youtube, netflix, you name it.
Fires would be out in a day or three.17 -
Was watching a dev stream on twitch and noticed the following code on screen:
if (blah blah blah) {
int fuck = 0;
mysql_blah_blah(blah, blah, &fuck);
} -
Sorry guys for the lack of content on the stream last week. I'll be back with more fire than ever I promise.2

Do you think it's possible to get enough of a following on YouTube and twitch to fund your living expenses and use the rest of your free time to work on your own studio projects?
For example I'm a VR and AR game developer. I do the whole shebang for game development and design on my own. I could stream play throughs of the current game I'm working on as a weekly thing and create tutorial videos for other developers and students for more content on my channel, but to also stimulate growth in the VR and AR industry. I'd in a way be creating my own market. I could also stream the development of the art assets and whatnot.
Could possibly make some money from the ads at first. Maybe even within the game?
Idk I'm trying to avoid having to get a job anywhere else if I can float my own success as an indie start up. So thoughts on this rant please?5 -
So, there's a browser game named Death Roulette that lets live stream viewers bet on how a streamer will die on their attempts in roguelike games, including Spelunky.
Last year, when Spelunky 2 was announced, Vinesauce streamer Joel who'd been playing the first game with chat betting against him for months, expressed several times he'd love to have something like that for the new game.
There had been no activity on the old site for a while and the Twitch API it was using for player login had been deprecated and removed months earlier. So I decided I'd make a new version of Death Roulette from scratch, using Node, Express, React and MariaDB. I learned a buch of stuff about DB design, SSE and load balancing, this thing would have to deal with thousands of simultaneous clients after all, and two months later, I announced the finished project to the stream. After some obligatory server issues, I got it running with help from another chat member.
So yeah, did my first fullstack project on a whim for a guy streaming on http://fecalfunny.com -
!rant I used to live stream my coding (React Native) on LiveEdu, but that site appears to move on. Where would be a suitable place now? Twitch? YouTube? Any suggestions?1

Is it possible to build your own streaming site? I’m trying to build something so I can stream directly to my website instead of having to use mixer/twitch etc5

Yo! I finally got the beta version of my app pretty stable.
It's a collaborative streaming platform for gamers and developers with restreaming capabilities. You can use webrtc or rtmps. And stream with multiple users. If you setup twitch or youtube integration, it restreams to those platforms server-side.
Its still in beta but I would love to get some eyes on the existing features and any bugs! 😬
Let me know if I'm missing any categories in channel creation!
I also made a Discord server to help streamers collab!
Note: merged youtube chat is still a bit broken. I'm working on a fix.
