So my friend and I have been casually talking about developing some indie games. I, being the one who knows programming, tried convincing him to learn some code.

Him: What books?
Me internally: ‘ok, maybe he just used some of the online guides’

Him: Oh! I downloaded that the other day!

Him: oh, I downloaded it but never actually opened it

Coding competitions.

Expectations: a period of intense coding, satisfaction from solving problems, finding neat solutions.

Reality: five FUCKING HOURS spent staring at the screen doing literally nothing, because none of your ideas would fit the time limit and you have NOT A SINGLE FUCKING CLUE WHERE TO EVEN START.

I’ve had it with people and their lies on experience in the tech world, some guy/girl said to me that he/she had “8 years of experience” but still had problems on something they said they’ve “mastered”

Im a professional .NET developer and tutor C# at my local university. Every tutor session,

My lead loves to over engineer crap and waste weeks building complicated solutions.

And then during retro when a team member has the stones to say we should've thought about it a little more or used the input of some other teammates, he shuts them down by saying that more input would've been bad for the design. I can see where he's coming from, but he always seems to have an excuse for us. Why can't he just be more transparent and clear with us? If he has a problem, just say it. That's what retros are for.

Oh and then he takes a shot at me saying that we shouldn't have built a UI in tandem with it. I didn't even recommend a UI for the thing. All I said was that if we ever have a UI, we should consider a database setup that assists both the server and UI. But nooo, he's stuck with this "server design" approach. Everything has to be built to make it easier for the server.

I still don't understand why anyone would have their server logic influence the design. Especially the database. I just seems too targeted. It just creates these nasty denormalized tables.

Ugh... Our team is getting dragged around by this arrogant and silly man.

All of them) claiming to be "tv box ready" with sentences like "let your smart tv look old": bro if I can't even install fucking netflix alongside youtube with a nice navigation (product native at best), need to use some kind of keyboard because you won't work with my paired aftv remote and get like 4 fps on a fucken raspberry pi.. my smart tv looks like it's from 2075.

Web Development on a single laptop is tough....

Window 1: editor, tabs for markup, styles, server, terminal

Window 2: browser...so small that everything is in low res mode, if not mobile.

Window 3: database, stress testing system and making sure data flows properly.

Window 4: design specs.

I really don’t blame Facebook for this at all. The fact is that sheep need to be led by someone. That combined with the fact that absolute power corrupts absolutely was a recipe for massive success and then a decline.

Full Disclosure: While I am an infrequent user of FB I have always felt it was toxic and a tire-fire. Everyone around me disagreed so I came to he conclusion I was wrong and just phased it out of my life. Reading Nir Eyal’s book confirmed that the negatives outweighed the positives of FB. So, I am likely not the one to assess the value of FB in most peoples lives. However, I am inclined to think that most perceived value received is simply a fallacy.

But, if you think Facebook (besides
Messenger) actually provides value to your life I would really love to hear it! That’s not an empty challenge either, I would actually love to learn more about its value to you!

Why do I always think of the best way to fix a bug right before I sleep?

Even when the code is right, it's wrong. Like when you are fixing bugs:

"damn, this variable doesn't look like it belongs in this part of the code", but when you look further into it you see that is correct and you continue with the bug and have no idea what the next step should be.
