AboutI work on Passed Plates (https://passedplates.com) as my day job. Like talking about religion. Don't like when people roll back the spines of paperbacks when reading them.

My local ISP was saving their database backups in an unprotected folder which was literally domain.com/backups
When I downloaded it contained thousands of their clients data.
Reported it to them and got 2 years of internet/tv services for free.
They wanted to hire me but I was still studying in my first year of uni in another city.7 -
apple you piece of shit just let me have xcode i dont want to make a stupid fucking account, so can you fuck off?

I didn't manage to win a Hacktoberfest 2020 shirt because I don't use GitHub anymore (and they require that apparently) - but I figured I might as well have a go at it.

FUUUUUUUUCK SERVERLESSS
We just got forced to make new project in serverless
Current issues:
- Local development sucks a cock
- Everything feels different (in wrong way)

Love Letter To The Future
Go read it, seriously, dont wait. If you wait it might gone before you even have a chance. This is what we face. The elections don't matter.
This is the real danger we all face.

Random but does anyone have experienced with hosting your own git server together with a frontend?
I don't want to solely rely on GitHub.
I've tried gitlab before but was put off by the ridiculous amounts of resources it needed.
Been thinking about gogs for a while7 -
As someone deeply questioning their life and career choices as of now, I wouldn't want to become a dev anymore because:
- you spend most of your time burning your eyes on a monitor and getting terrible back pain
- you might sell your soul to company benefits whose only purpose is to make you distracted from the fact that you're basically spending 1/3 of the day wishing you were doing something you actually want to do
- might have to do some exhausting communication ooga boogas to understand what supervisors and your other colleagues want to say (in a small company setting)
- again, as in my previous rant, if you're not on some less disposable dev position, you could as well become something else given that junior salaries are not that high
- get into an unhealthy work world where little hours of sleep, overworking, and other such unhealthy lifestyles are praised or used to determine your worth
Of course, these differ on a case by case basis. I'd become a train driver or something if I still didn't have to eat and not throw more money at a career change
Life's tough2 -
My top reasons for you to not become a dev are:
- You don't like stress
- You like to overengineer but you want to "take your time"
- You hate bug-detective work
- You are impatient
- You want to overcome your virginity
- You are an overly social person6 -
PHP: Powering 70% of the web and doing fucking awesome at it.
React: Powering .3% of the web and largely sucking at it.

I got hired!!
It's been a long month of jobhunting, interviews, and paperwork, but I finally got a job. Real world dev life here I come.9 -
I took the effort to apply for a frontend/angular position. I don’t have much experience in Angular (although its just javascript) but i’d like to learn further... i got a mail back that i didn’t send them a motivation. No true i applied at 50+ companies in the last months and writing a custom motivation is just too much of a hassle.
I sended them the standard; i have this and this experience and looking for such and such.
I got a call. Yay, almost a week after the application but i cannot complain can i?
During the call the person of this company was very hesitant. He wasnt looking for someone right now. Wanted to take his time and wanted more of a medior developer. (Tnx buddy for underestimating me already)
Yeah if i can send over some code before we talk further. Sure i’ll send over my GitHub but if you are this hesitant already i know enough and i don’t want to work at your company because you clearly don’t want to hire me. -
I hate people who own crypto and think they're some futurist tech elite. You don't know how the price will fluctuate in the future so stop thinking you're some goddamn fucking wizard. Just because you know the very basics of how a blockchain works or simple economics, doesn't mean you're better than those who don't own crypto.1

Snippet of an overheard conversation today:
"LOL maths beyond basic arithmetic is so dumb. No-one needs pythagoras, trig, calculus or any of that crap unless they have some unholy desire to find the geometric properties of their sandwich."
"What do you want to do when you leave school then?"
"Something to do with AI. That stuff is really cool."

Seems like even GitHub's CEO has now chimed in on the youtube-dl takedown! https://torrentfreak.com/riaas-yout...
A screenshot of him popping into the #youtube-dl IRC channel is posted here: https://twitter.com/t3rr4dice/...
So I guess this youtube-dl story may have a happy ending after all! Glad to have supported it and thanks to everyone who did the same :D12 -
If the documentation does not make any sense, I always try to look up some articles or tutorials. But I found out that especially on the Medium platform, so many people copied word to word from the official documentations, I was like what is wrong with this mf's.2

Left dev tools open while working then opened a new tab and went to Amazon. Noticed this in the HTML source.
Say hello to the Amazon Catduck.9 -
I love it.
I'm a geek, and a nerd,
I love everything that computers,
I love electronics, physics, even mathematics,
I love thinking, solving problems, learning new things.
And programming is all of those combined, I love it with a passion.5 -
- always challenging, so fun
- real-life impact on masses
- programming is usually the core of "the next big thing" [™ Joe MacMillan]
- plays an important role in the world's growth nowadays
- every company needs them, so you'll always have a job
- well paid2 -

When I browsed for a Food Recipes (Especially Indian Food) Dataset, I could not find one (that I could use) online. So, I decided to create one.
The dataset can be found here: https://lnkd.in/djdh9nX
It contains following fields (self-explanatory) - ['RecipeName', 'TranslatedRecipeName', 'Ingredients', 'TranslatedIngredients', 'Prep', 'Cook', 'Total', 'Servings', 'Cuisine', 'Course', 'Diet', 'Instructions', 'TranslatedInstructions']. The datset contains a csv and a xls file. Sometimes, the content in Hindi is not visible in the csv format.
You might be wondering what the columns with the prefix 'Translated' are. So, a lot of entries in the dataset were in Hindi language. To take care of such entries and translating them to English for consistency, I went ahead and used 'googletrans'. It is a python library that implements Google Translate API underneath.
The code for the crawler, cleaning and transformation is on Github (Repo:https://lnkd.in/dYp3sBc) (@kanishk307).
The dataset has been created using Archana's Kitchen Website (https://lnkd.in/d_bCPWV). It is a great website and hosts a ton of useful content. You should definitely consider viewing it if you are interested.
