Welcome to the internet of 2019 after Article 13!
FUCK ARTICLE 13
MOST OF THE MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT WHO VOTED FOR ARTICLE 13 ARE OLD PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL USING KEY MOBILE PHONES AND HEARD OF THIS THING CALLED "INTERNET" ONCE IN THEIR LIFE.
THIS "INTERNET" ("Neuland") CAN'T BE THAT IMPORTANT, JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T USE IT IN YOUR FREE TIME?
I literally can imagine what the European parliament members think:
"The people will like it i guess!"
"What, you can chat with other people in the internet? NEVER HEARD OF THAT."
"I don't understand this 'Memes'. It is not funny and i don't like it!"
"My sons always much too long on his computer, this 'Internet' can't be good!"
I am sorry for the rage, but i just can't believe that people, who maybe mostly have never dealt with the internet, are destroying the future of self-fulfillment and free resources for everyone.
YouTube will start deleting channels who are not big enough, who are not sponsored or made by a big company. They will just delete them. And videos from out of the European union won't be able to be watched in Europe. Big companies will gain power over the internet(I know the partly already have much). Educational sites like Wikipedia and YouTube for example will die, but hey, FUCK MY LIFE!!!
FUCK MY FUTURE!!!
FUCK FIRST WORLD DEVELOPMENT!!!
WHY NOT JUST GO BACK TO THE STONE AGE???
FUCK OUR CITIZENS JIIIIHAAA!!!
"Nah i never needed YouTube. Or Facebook" + (we can talk about this one) + " Or Instagram. I never saw someone of my friends using it."
- Beautiful beach ✔️
- Delicious food ✔️
- Wikipedia blocked ✔️
- GitHub partly blocked ✔️
- Human right to knowledge is violated ✔️
- Circumvent censorship using multihop VPN ✔️19
Person: Oh! blablabla.onion isn't working. It must be the government censoring it.
Me: No, its because you're trying to open a onion website in Google Chrome.2
- devRant TOR rant! -
There is a recent post that just basically says 'fuck TOR' and it catches unfortunate amount of attention in the wrong way and many people seem to aggree with that, so it's about time I rant about a rant!
First of all, TOR never promised encryption. It's just used as an anonymizer tool which will get your request through its nodes and to the original destination it's supposed to arrive at.
Let's assume you're logging in over an unencrypted connection over TOR and your login information was stolen because of a bad exit node. Is your privacy now under threat? Even then, no! Unless of course you had decided to use your personal information for that login data!
And what does that even have to do with the US government having funded this project even if it's 100%? Are we all conspiracy theorists now?
Let's please stop the spread of bs and fear mongering so that we can talk about actual threats and attack vectors on the TOR network. Because we really don't have any other reliable means to stop a widely implemented censorship.12

TD;LR: my State Government bans PLASTIC. 😊
While rest of the world is losing shit over Net Neutrality and Internet Censorship, my State Government made a wise decision which is difficult to digest initially (until we find alternatives), but will definitely benefit future generations, all living beings and this blue ball at large.
Yes, we banned plastic. All and every kind of plastic.
FUCK YEAHHH!!! This could have been the best decision of the century.
I live in financial capital of world's largest democracy and this will have a major immediate impact, but in long run my home will be beautiful and a good place to live.98
Colleague started a slack channel for our team, management wanted nothing to do with it. We used it to work and have a bit of fun.
Some push / drive came form somewhere and now all the managers are on it. Yesterday I was told my screenshot and "snarky comment" are not appropriate for the workplace and to delete my slack message.
My comment was a joke about about a new app the company has to use "to increase efficiency" that broke and wouldn't let me do what I needed. It wasn't offensive, demeaning, sexist to anyone or even contain any bad language.
How petty and childish to be monitoring a private channel making sure everything is positive. We all joked that from now on our meme's must be about how awesome the company is and how much time we are saving on a daily basis.
God forbid we're allowed to speak honestly and openly or have a bit of fun.8
A company that I looked up to when I was younger, believing that they were the champions of free speech/anti-censorship, is perhaps the biggest entity out there that’s responsible for quashing down any parties that do not kowtow to approved political talking points.10
Can we ever have a truly democratic and uncensored Internet?
I am writing this in irritation and anger as I read a story headlined " Apple CEO backs China’s vision of an ‘open’ Internet as censorship reaches new heights"
Appearantly "Open Internet" as the Chinese Government understands it is, "you can say whatever you want as long as we like it". And Apple being the ass-kissing, 730-million-customer-seeking, co**suckers that they are is only happy to comply. They even removed 674 VPN apps from the Chinese version of their App Store last year to comply with government rules, stating "We strongly believe that participating in markets and bringing benefits to consumers is in the best interests of folks there and in other countries as well, We believe in engaging in governments even when we disagree.”
That was Cook by the way.
Thats two fucking contradictory statements rolled into one!!
Anyway, I know private companies are well within their rights to do what they want to make profits. And I understand Apple might not be at fault totally. But its just so frustrating... :-(
The Net Neutrality repeal in the US, this, the Aadhar shit in India and lots of other stuff thats been happening around the world, that just blatantly undermine Civil Rights and freedom makes me imagine that only a bleak future sits on horizon. Almost Orwellian.
If only people would just realise and revolt a bit... probably we would have a different future then..
I hope I am wrong and this is just the pessimist in me speaking.14
Taken from the master/slave debate in python. (Link: https://github.com/python/cpython/...)
They locked the PR right after. I cannot believe the active censorship of honest debate on an open source project. It's like the bullshit of r/bitcoin and bitcoin core all over again.18
Just appealing for some attention of the european devRanters. This is really important:
Wtf bs is this? Can't governments just stop trying to control the internet?
It's literally the closest thing we have to a free and fair society on the planet and that's with all the tracking and abuse of information going on. I think we need to start applying our minds to creating a decentralised network with p2p discovery routed through our phones if we want to keep any semblance of freedom of speech or privacy around for our kids. Routing traffic wouldnt use more than 50-100mb of ram and would probably use a lot less battery than Google does listening to our conversations or transmiting our location data so we wouldn't even notice. If only we could find a cable free decentalized way to get data across the ocean no one would be able to control it again, I doubt we would be able to shut it down either.13
Fuck these saggy assholes running the fcc. “Oh my god net neutrality stifles innovation” says who? I say these fuck heads with six dicks up their pungent leaky assholes are stifling innovation by repealing net neutrality, and frankly there’s probably more proof for my standpoint then they will ever for theirs.
In fact there’s substantial reason to believe that an unregulated network will lead to censorship and handshake agreements that will severely stifle innovation.
I hope these guys spend the rest of their lives in federal prison for taking bribes.
All this coming from a party that claims they like small government and yet want more laws preventing abortion and gay marriage. And who is belligerent about freedom of speech in even the most ridiculous contexts, and yet so against free speech on the internet and totally happy to let Comcast decide what we’re allowed to say or see when it’s our fucking business.
And it’s not like the democrats are much better to be honest, begging and begging the government to take away all our guns because they’re missing the forest for the trees and are convinced that’s going to solve our violent culture problem (it will not) and they also think we need to have China level censorship on the internet and purge us of our right of the freedom of information and blame all their problems on Russia and Facebook, just because they can’t face facts that their candidate sucked piss.
Weak weak weak.
I want somebody who is going to respect freedom across the board, whether it’s free information, unbiased networking options, unbiased band allocation (guys, 20 MHz centered at 800 MHz is NOT THE SAME as 1900, hello already), or the right to own a gun, the right to decide what I do and don’t see or do and don’t read, the right to say what I want to say.
I don’t need some cunt in the fcc with no knowledge of how the internet works deciding what it means to be free on the internet, because HE HAS NEVER EXPERIENCED WHAT IT IS LIKE TO HAVE FREEDOM TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU ON THE INTERNET.
My friends in China know what it’s like to have freedom taken from you on the internet. The North Koreans know what it’s like to have their access to information controlled. And it doesn’t matter if it’s a government of a company doing it. I KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO HAVE MY RIGHTS THREATENED BY A THIRD PARTY COMPANY.
I have had my bandwidth throttled to my servers by Comcast pre-net neutrality and I’m looking forward to being sacked in the nuts again when those rules lapse. Since my email server is not a first class citizen on their network they throttled my speed down to sub dial up and I couldn’t even ssh in it was so preposterously slow. I had to yell at them every fucking day to remove the throttle rule. I also have come up against email domain whitelists when communicating with people, that effectively forces you to have a gmail or a yahoo or a hotmail account. Third parties force you to use email that ostracizes your right to privacy. FUCK THAT SHIT.
Regular fags who just use gmail and windows and don’t stand up for their privacy like I do DO NOT KNOW and WILL NEVER know what it’s like in a world without net neutrality regulations where you’re forced to get back in line with the masses and submit to having your life picked apart day in and day out by people who have their grubby fucking fingers in any of your business that’s within reach.
So so all these politicians who were dropped on their fucking heads as children and probably took until they were 25 to graduate high school, go fuck yourselves, I’m not going to sit here and take it while you hand over the keys to our lives to demons like Comcast or Facebook. I’ll find a way to connect to who I want see information freely no matter what you fucking do to stop me. So if you want to be in my business and control my communications, here’s my message to you: give it your best fucking shot, I’d love to see you fucking try.4
Google is being evil.
More Than 600 Google Employees Are Demanding an End to Project Dragonfly
i rant that i live in a dictatorship with an idiot president who bans whatsapp and facebook to prevent protests (in reaction to having arrested opposition party members of parliament), and github (yes, github) to prevent the spread of a minister's leaked e-mails. now the government is seriously considering shutting down vpn services to prevent by-passing the bans.
on the other hand, it's a nice time and place to continue ms studies on ad-hoc networks - that is of course if i can avoid being arrested or killed before i even start my thesis.10
So I just decided I'd hotspot my phone to my laptop (as I have no WiFi) and stream a film I've wanted to watch for a while.
Turns out my shite ass mobile provider wants credit card details to prove I'm over 18.
I'm sorry, what?
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? YOU NOSY OVER CONTROLLING SHIT STAINS! THAT IS A PARENT'S JOB, NOT YOURS.
fucking hell. What is wrong with this fucking race?
Oh, and I can't torrent it because that's blocked too.9
Article 13 is like a nightmare,
already mass surveillance is widespread and getting stronger with new laws (hint Australia),
now freedom to express ourselves is eroding.
Spotify posted a youtube video and made an entire website (https://timetoplayfair.com/) to convince Apple of holding back their greedy subscription policies.
Dear Spotify, if you really want to fight Apple censorship or anything like that, go build yourself a PWA.
Read more in my article:
I'm here at work working on my back end security code and my co-worker is watching the Emoji Movie.
I'm strongly against censorship, but this goddamn piece of cock shit makes me almost reconsider it. Noise canceling headphones are about the only thing keeping me from going that far.
We got until April 9th to show that Art. 13 is not good and Art. 11 too.
I know that you may think 1 vote doesnt change anything.
Thats not true. Imagine Millions of people not doing it and saying the same. 1 voice doesnt change anything but now the 1 voice is part of few millions voices that we lost. So get out there and shout as hard as you can so your voice is heard !
We gotta save our internet once again.
Lets do THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!
So anyone else has thoughts about Google and Facebook taking a stand against "fake news" online?
I mean obviously we could all do with a little less nonsense in our feeds, but where do we draw the line until this becomes 'censorship'.7
Pretty much all of them now, thanks to the unfettered access to everyone's data on the one hand, and the crazy PC ass-kissing "censorship" ban hammer that gets dropped for absolutely any arbitrary reason on the other.
They make strange bedfellows don't they?2
That feeling when everyone on devrant is shitting EU for Internet censorship while I'm here worrying about my country's future when they implemented Syaria Law. Very torn about it to be honest.11
I fucking hate that ISPs just decide to block certain websites!
Sky for example blocks a bunch of things related to Tor. You can't go to the website, and can't even install stuff like tor browser from AUR, because it has tor in the download url. The connections simply time out.
Yes, I can use a VPN to install Tor, I'll probably have to do that. But fuck!!! Many VPN providers' websites are also blocked.
This seems to be common practive. In my previous flat we had Virgin. They blocked the website of all VPN providers they could find, and even kept me from establishing a connection to some of those providers. In that case I could donwload Tor (surprisingly) and then tried a bunch of clients until one of them worked.
It's fucking pretentious, and I don't think I'll find anything about blocking perfectly legal resources in any of their T&Cs.5
Message aps that block phone numbers..
It's pointless as everyone just then says zero one two three four five six seven to get around the censorship !1
So my russian friends- little while ago, people here, living in EU countries, whined about article 13 & co and what options it really unlocks for more efficient internet censorship, but is it true that your government is taking that to next level and is planning to isolate Russian internet? I just saw video I link below and that kind of reminds me someones (even might be someone from here) prediction about divided internet and that seems to come true more and more.
Not exactly a "programming" rant but...
Was going to try setting up oculus for the first time. I followed the instructions from the main site but somehow it doesn't work. Had no one to ask. The only thing I can do was to seek help from the community.
Most of the community was on reddit.
Best part is, reddit turns out to be blocked in my country.
p.s. I know VPNs can be used, but how if someone that doesn't know about VPNs and stuff can access it? Isn't it kind of unfair to them?7
I like Mr Robot, but is everyone getting the censored version where they remove every mention of the word fuck? It's all f-king removed in any *ing version I found.15
After several Firefox/Mozilla failures (getting rid of proper addons, supporting censorship) Waterfox looks like a promising alternative. On Windows it runs great, sadly on Kubuntu LTS it does not - binary package only works with quite new std c++ library :-(. Damn it, why can't they distribute all their libraries together like Tor browser does (it's also Firefox based)?2
That feeling when people complain about the censored Mr Robot and you are watching a version with all the "fucking fuck"s properly translated into your language. God bless America!
