I installed a linux distribution it's called Zorin, i installed the latest one (Zorin Core 17) for a client since Windows 7 was giving him a headache, it was a very old machine with 4GB RAM with a celeron cpu if i remember, i suggest i will install linux and you won't have more issues with wifi and the printer he said okay, I installed everything, printer was recognized immediately Libre office was installed wifi is connected, security updates are done
After 2 days, he sent me a voice message telling me hey what is this zorin? Zorin everywhere, it's like if I'm using someone else program,I have nothing to do with the espionage things, I want windows back, i was crying he made me laugh for a week, i enjoyed listening to his voice messages on WhatsApp, whenever i get upset i listen to him and get excited hahahahhaha espionage? Do you think he let it go? Every 2 days i receive a voice message complaining about Zorin and how i was spying on him hahaha I explained over and over how secure linux is and how Microsoft knows everything he does on his machine, after giving me a headache i sent a friend and he installed ms 7 back and i never heard of him again11 -

There's a group of people at my work who have mean girls syndrome.
They think they're cool, but they're actually pretty lame. I'm loving it whenever a junior comes to me because they're fed up with these morons.
Don't get me wrong, I can't do fuckall, but I love to sit and watch the world burn. Hell, I'm waiting for end of contract to get away from this hellhole of a job, this shitty small town and its close-minded people.11 -
I did get into the Information Systems - DevOps Master's program at the uni I wanted (which is the only one that does exactly that). I am trying my best at it now...5

Final year at the university, and I only feel regret.
I hoed around in different technologies and fields. I had developed a game that i played with my friends back in high school. They liked it, so in varsity, i tried game development, 3d modelling scared me off, or rather I pussied out.
Web development, didn't go too deep, App Development with Flutter, didn't go too deep, Cybersecurity, went as far as passing the EC council's exams (the training wasn't that good). I tried putting my knowledge into practice, but resources like HTB aren't really free, you need money to learn (one would say i didn't try hard enough ) but now the certificate sits, useless in my resume, anything I learned fading away. I had an idea that applied blockchain, but my dad said "blah blah blah you could be targeted" (are there symbols for paraphrasing ?). I decided to decide on a stack (picked MERN, good idea ?) and work on it, but I feel like maybe tech isn't for me. AJR songs really hit now.

I'm convinced that playing the piano has allowed me to type faster and commit keyboard shortcuts to muscle memory faster too. While coding isn't about typing quickly, there's a whole bunch of times when I've had an idea, and had to get that down into code as quickly as possible before I forget it - and that's when I really find fast keyboard work comes into its own.5

EDIT: devRant April Fools joke (2021)
-------------------------
Hey everyone,
@trogus and I are happy to make an exciting announcement. With the rapidly increasing success of NFTs, we've decided the devRant community shouldn't miss out on this compelling new paradigm for user-generated content. So, we will soon be offering all rants as NFTs at auction.
To kick things off, we're going to first be offering the first ever rant posted to devRant (https://devrant.com/rants/489/...) at auction for a starting price equivelent to $100,000 USD. We think this is a fair starting price for such a significant piece of devRant history, and we anticipate the final sale price to be significantly higher.
We look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts on this new direction for the devRant community, and we can't wait to see the Rant NFT market take off!
Sincerely,
@dfox & @trogus30 -

Thank You gradle. This is very useful.... FML2 -
I managed to get a group of people to use an open source and privacy respecting service instead of its proprietary (surveillance) competitors today.
The experience was good for everyone and I wouldn't be surprised if at least some people who participated will remember this good working FLOSS solution.
My work is done here for the day :)12 -
My girlfriend knows what a coder needs when it’s their birthday. Lucky to have her. Walked into my room and it was set up like this.51

Could someone finally make remote controlled bed that transform to armchair and can ride around the house so I don’t have to get up to grab a beer or open the door....
I want to ride to fridge and get back with some beef jerky without using my muscles.
Damn technology is always aiming for stuff that nobody needs.9 -
I just got a text from T-Mobile telling me about their updated privacy policy and that I can “opt out.” So, naturally I do exactly this.
After a little bit, I land on their “Do not sell my data” page and discover that, not only does it have 175+ trackers,
it doesn’t even fucking work. Also, on the desktop version of the site, the very control allowing the user to opt out of having their data shared/sold doesn’t even render.
These are all absolutely inexcusable.20 -
Fuuuuuuckkk...
1month+ of debugging finally came under the sunlight 😭😭😭
It successfully run after all the pkg refactoring 🥺🥺
I was like wohoooo yeahhh 😂😂4 -
man i wish i had brain cells.
i was trying to free some storage by deleting some btrfs snapshots, so i mounted the directory and started rm -rfing, as you do. a couple minutes in, i decide to reboot and make sure i didn't accidentally start deleting my root partition.
spoiler alert: i accidentally started deleting my root partition.
it only got up to deleting /data (where i keep my multimedia), but my whole /boot directory is gone. now I'm gonna have to spend a couple hours redoing stuff like fstab and grub to make things work again 😃2 -
My sole purpose of staying in this field is to make a robot that cooks and cleans for me.
Like, everything else sucks rn.24 -
Hi everyone,
Over the last couple of days we experienced an issue posting images on devRant posts and comments. This issue should now be fixed.
Apologies for the delay, it to address, it took some digging and we had some alerting that failed that would have helped quickly identify the source of the issue, but unfortunately that part of the alerting wasn't working as expected.
Despite the issue being fixed, there is a bit of additional maintenance that will take place to prevent it from occurring in the future. There could be a couple of minutes of downtime today, March 13 at around 10pm EST, but I'm hoping that can be avoided. I will update in the comments on this rant.
Lastly, and unrelated to this issue, an academic research team has been working on a project involving devRant/types of content posted, and would appreciate feedback and help with a short survey they put together for anyone who is interested: https://devrant.com/rants/3923796/...
Thank you again for the patience and feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
p.s. attached is a relevant meme, according to some people, who thought/hoped this was a feature :)16 -
I am Gunnery Sgt. Hartman, your senior drill instructor. From now on you will speak only when spoken to, and the first and last words out of your filthy sewers will be 'Sir.' Do you maggots understand that?6
