I'm not an iOS expert, I just wanted to get Google ads on my iOS app so that I could make a few petty dollars at the expense of my users. Is that too much to ask?
I started by following Google's instructions: install cocoapods, copy and paste some swift code... Compile failed, app broke. Carefully retrace my steps. Nothing.
Stackoverflow (praise be with them) suggests upgrading Xcode. Go to app store and click to upgrade Xcode. No progress bar, no status updates, just that pissy little spinner for several minutes. I become impatient try a few more times. It ain't happening.
Stackoverflow (holy of holies, defender of the weak) points me to an alternate source for Xcode, on the app store dev console. 4GB and some time later, an attempt to unzip gives "unknown error". Genocide of sorts.
Stackoverflow (all that is pure, all that is kind, all... I think you get it) says upgrade your OS. I tried months ago but I had issues with that pissy little spinner. Persist. 5GB and a "heavy-year" of time later (sorry), it installs. Then Xcode installs. Then bar a few errors, the app compiles.
So after almost 24 hours, life resumes. The lesson.. respond to all obscure iOS errors by upgrading. If fully upgraded, calmly acquire a baseball bat and destroy your machine. Make sure you have a good book nearby in case of either event.

$150 so that I may list my app in the app store.11

iOS Dev: cocoapods downloading... blocked by network admin.
PM: ... i guess the only thing running now is the web admin right?
Laravel/VueJS Dev: composer nodejs/npm/yarn downloading... blocked by network admin.
PM: team lets retest the api endponts
Team: Postman downloading... blocked by network admin.
Team: -_- Insomnia REST Client downloading... blocked by network admin.
PM: code study?
Team: even visual studio code/android studio/xcode is blocked. :(

Xcode is pissing me off:
- Suddenly it starts force quitting every 2 minutes
- Every second time it doesn't know everything and only can autocomplete words that were already in the document
- Playground pages: Good idea, works horribly.
- when I use modules from CocoaPods the first time, I need to restart Xcode and the computer 5 times till I don't run into build errors
- it likes to just throw random errors everywhere and leaving you unable to build anything
- it only copies new files every second or third time into the project folder.
I'm really pissed. I just wanted to code...
Cocoapods - an easy way TO SHIT ALL OVER YOUR MAC AND PROJECTS. Jut add frameworks to project? No way, lets put hundreds of shit, projects in projects, run all over the place some piece of shit scripts written by who knows who and for what reason, it's always fun when one little misstep can ruin all your plans for weekend.2
Ok so Swift's module system creates implicit namespace, meaning gone are the days of Objective-c frameworks / classes having prefixes.
I get that, and its a great advancement. But when I'm using 3 different social media SDK's, a networking library and some persistence cocoapods and I have to use classes called "AccessToken" and "Manager" ... come on guys, name your shit better.
I'm looking at you Facebook and AlamoFire!!!
You know what? You can all go plug your heads into each other's arseholes, Cocoapods people, just like the human centipede. I've had enough with you.
I have several libraries that were created back in version 0.38 or something. All of the sudden, you jump to v1.0 and call it ready for prime time. Except the pod doesn't build anymore and I can't publish to the trunk.
When running pod install on them, I get a hopeful message saying it's "re-creating CocoaPods due to major version update", but 2ms later the humongous pile of dog poo crashes, because it was expecting some file to be somewhere. Still not happy, it messes up the remote URL on git.
So I deleted everything and created a new project using v1.0 and populated it with my library, only to find out that now the project won't build because it's fucking Xcode with your shitty piece of software on top of it.
It's already too much of a pain to deal with Xcode's tantrums, but deliberately having to put up with Cocoapods' horseshit on top of that is just torture.
Hope you lose all internet connectivity for three hours today, right in the middle of something important. Because that's how much of my life you've stolen from me.
I sometimes spend a lot of time fixing Cocoapods integration issues when commiting and pushing to our git repo
today my friend wanted to publish his swift 3 library in cocoapods, set up proper github repository, made a releass/tag then tried to upload cocoa pods. first was success but somehow it turned out to be empty then we changed some settings in cocoapods (moved paths etc) then it started to give errors and such. strangely every fkin time different kind of error.
first realized he is using xcode 7 build tools which lacks support of swift3, then switchex to xcode8-beta tools but again that shit wasnt working. so i noticed that their app switching repo origin to their specs origin.
removed cocoapods from sys entirely, xcode7 as same as cocoapods and installed git cmd tools from homebrew to make it updated. started from scratch same shit also happened.
so i give up and fired chrome to look up issue, it turns out it was problem with xcode-beta and cocoapods entirely, even somebody just 30mins before us also commented on issue with exact same output problems
5hrs for shitty bugs fml...
Clients who's cocoapods are littered with deprecated junk, forcing you to downgrade your ide, deserve to crash and burn. Fucking stoneage gnomes, upgrade your shit.
Used cocoapods to install VideoCore on demo. Everything's working. Nice!
Transferred to actual project - pod file has 'use_frameworks!' in it, fucked up the headers, project broke. Spent whole Saturday trying to solve it cos i suck!
..I thought I would be done in an hour..
