Trying to teach coding to a kid:
Kid: Can you teach me XCode?
Me: No but I can teach you Swift or Objective-C
Kid: But I want to learn to code in XCode
Me: Yes you will code in XCode but I will teach you swift
Kid: My dad said that you actually know how to code but apparently not.12 -
I lost my sanity and googled ”FUCK YOU XCODE YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT”...
That's how I found devRant.9 -

Dear Apple,
We've sent you a new message regarding your app, Xcode. To view or reply to the message, go to the Resolution Centre.
----------------------------------
We noticed that your app did not fully meet the terms and conditions for reasonable fucking update size. Your latest app update requires over 40 GB of free fucking disk space. Please bear in mind that many of your own fucking laptops only have 120 GB of disk space. For optimum user experience, it would be best if the user didn't have to uninstall other apps from their system just to run your shitty update system.
Next Steps:
To resolve this problem, we recommend that you fix your shit. If you are unable to fix your shit, we recommend that you don't take 30% of all iOS developer's income so that you can make giant fucking glass donut buildings, and instead use that ridiculously disproportionate monopoly-abusing cut and invest that money in fixing your shit, to lighten the load of developers on whose backs you have become the most cash-rich company in human history.
Resources:
There are plenty of resources such as Stack Overflow to take advantage of, in order to learn how not to create a bloated piece of shit IDE.
Once you've completed all required changes, please upload a new binary to the App Store.7 -
Fuck YOU Xcode!
20 crashes since I started working this morning.
Restarted the iMac, same shit.
Cleared NVRAM/PRAM whatever its called, same shit.
Closed EVERYTHING, restarted iMac again, unplugged from the wall, left it few mins, replugged back, turned it on, continued working, AND IT STILL KEEPS FUCKING ME OUT OF NOWHERE.
FUCK THIS, FUCK XCODE, FUCK APPLE, AND FUCK WHOEVER DARES TO THINK THAT ITS A GREAT PIECE OF SOFTWARE, im done.
P.S. this rage got me to a point where i had to make this paper13 -
FOUR DAYS
Tomorrow will be the FOURTH FUCKING DAY spent trying to get this piece of shit iOS simulator to not crash the app.
I’VE TRIED EVERYTHING.
FUCK APPLE. FUCK XCODE. FUCK IOS😠😤😠😤😠😤😠😤😠😤
Steve Jobs was a twat, and the IPhone X garbage piece of technology10 -
Why Apple?
Configuring my new MacBook Pro
• jre ✓
• jdk ✓
• Android studio ....
• let's see what we get when we type "git" in Terminal.. surprise!!! You have to download Xcode which is 5.30GB. Goodness. Can I cry now? 😭😭😭18 -
A day of an iOS developer life:
1. XCode crashed
2. XCode freeze
3. XCode "Jump to Definition" takes me to a different file that has the exact same variable name instead of jumping to the top of the file
4. XCode Storyboard designer throwing 1000000000 as UIStackView width on a newly created UIView
5. Heart attack
6. Lots of depression
** Note:
just noticed devRant web has xcode as placeholder in the tags box lol devRant knows my pain T_T8 -
How to make Xcode crash:
1. type: self.btn
2. Profit!
I need to add this on my CV as an expert in making xcode crash, not implying that Xcode is a shit IDE !!6 -
PM: hows the android app going?
Android Dev: gradle downloading... blocked by network admin.
PM: anyway how is the iOS app going?
iOS Dev: cocoapods downloading... blocked by network admin.
PM: ... i guess the only thing running now is the web admin right?
Laravel/VueJS Dev: composer nodejs/npm/yarn downloading... blocked by network admin.
PM: team lets retest the api endponts
Team: Postman downloading... blocked by network admin.
Team: -_- Insomnia REST Client downloading... blocked by network admin.
PM: code study?
Team: even visual studio code/android studio/xcode is blocked. :(
.... sad dev life
anyone here with the same problem?14 -
I’m convinced that Xcode and android studio are locked in an epic race to the bottom to claim the title of shittiest IDE.6
-
Yes - I fucking hate xcode too.
These are the main reasons:-
(1) Why the fuck make people go into Terminal to run pod install to build something? this is absurd.
(2) There are always fucking problems with the provisioining profile - like wrong fucking profile, or expired profile - which fuck wit came up with such a convoluted way of deploying? and then you to have to login to the apple develope and agree to some new fucking terms with some other bull shit crap.
(3) Swift 4 is out when nobody has been learnt swift 3.... What the fuck??
Fuck Apple!9 -
XCode.........pffft....... more like
Xcuse-me-while-I-hang-myself-while-you-Code
Or more like
Xcuse-me-while-I-crash-myself-while-you-Code
Or
Xcuse-me-while-I-make-you-angry-enough-to-throw-the-fucking-iMac-out-of-the-goddamn-window-while-you-Code
Like WTF, I got reassigned to iOS development after a year being in web development and was genuinely excited to work in swift again. The excitement quickly faded away, seeing the goddamn IDE struggle to compile or run. I dont remember facing these issues in version 7 or 8. FML ;-;5 -
In case of fire,
* Run away and stay out
* Use the fire extinguisher
* Build your project in Xcode
:))3 -
FOR FUCK SAKE APPLE! HOW THE HELL ARE YOU STILL IN THIS WORLD!
Was creating a signed file of the app to upload to their store and while XCode (that bitch!) was working on it, Slack, and Postman crashed!
Do I need to say why or you already knew it is because XCode ate all the RAM -.-7 -
Yeah Apple, fuck up your SECOND Xcode release in a SINGLE WEEK and make me download ANOTHER 7 GIGABYTES (I've grown up with a 2.4 KBITS/S modem!) for what's probably a ONE-LINER FIX in your bloated SHIT!4
-
apple sucks
iOS sucks
Xcode sucks
Cocoapods suck
iphones suck
can this company and OS please please die already21 -
When you spend a few hrs hunting down a performance issue in your iOS app only to find that you accidentally hit the shortcut for "Slow Animations" in XCode. 😭😭😭2
-
My girlfriend started to develop iOS. After that she says Fucking Xcode and Fucking Swift a lot of times. I couldn't understand so I also tried to study iOS. And now I say. Fucking XCODE!!3
-
Even Apple believes that Xcode suggestions are not reliable... 😂😂😂
(From App Development with Swift book in iBooks Store from Apple)6 -
Note that the example tags for rants includes Xcode... There is a reason.
In 1984 Apple introduced Macintosh and we got a computer that could barely handle multiple windows on the screen. But by 1986 multiple windows all over the place.
In 1985 Microsoft introduced Window 1.0 Yes boys and girls, no "s" because it hand only one Window. 7 years later in 1992 Microsoft got their head out of their ass and produced "MDI" or Multiple Document Interface and woohoo, had multiple windows on the screen... big boy pants 8 years after Mac.
Today we have Xcode from Apple. The old Window 1.0 engineers are apparently alive and well as Xcode is a One Window Trick Pony and if you fight with it, it starts randomly jamming your separate Windows into tabs into one window, completely fucking up your spatial organization of your working source code.
It is like the bastards going into a blind man's house and re-arranging his furniture for fun.
Xcode - it's only free if your time is worth absolutely nothing.5 -
YOU FUCKING FUCK PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT XCODE I FUCKING WISH YOU DISAPPEAR FROM THIS FUCKED UP WORLD!
What I did:
1. Scroll right on "Magic Mouse"
2. Profit! (XCode crash!)5 -
Dear XCode I hope you fucking burn in hell you piece of shit! can't do anything without that shit either indexing, or freezing, or crashing!
FUCK YOU BITCH!9 -
I don't know if it is that I just hate xcode or if I'm just a noob at working with it, but it feels like this7
-
I swear macOS Sierra is worse than Windows Vista, I need to type my password like 10 times to install and launch XCode...7
-
Said it before and saying it again: FUCK YOU XCODE! This shit keeps on crashing 😒
https://devrant.io/rants/558740/...15 -
Fucking Apple products fuck xcode fuck all ishit!
Wrapped my views in a UIStackView in storyboard designer and xcode gave it a width of 8,000,000 and height of 3,000,0006 -
In the 1990s code editors on the Mac could insert the omitted function prototypes into a header file with one command; and even automatically keep the header declaration updated when you changed the source definition (name, parameters, etc)
Today in Xcode you have to copy and paste the stupid function header definition from the source code into the header file. What happens if you leave the "{" that got copied accidentally? OMFUCKING LORD, it triggers all sorts of erroneous errors in all the **source code** files where it is included instead of the header with the stray "{"
I started to question whether nor not I knew C, if gravity worked, if the sun would come up. I wasted a day of dicking around in StackOverflow trying to chase down all these insane error messages which make no sense in Xcode.
I just **happened** to see at the bottom of one of the source files, after all the erroneous error, a very important error:
"};" Expected
So I started deleting code from the bottom up in this source file, same error every time. Got to the point where the includes were all that was left.
FUCK YOU XCODE and the hacks that designed that horrendous piece of shit
Xcode is only free if your time is worth absolutely nothing.11 -
- 13 GB free on HDD - App Store says not enough space to update Xcode
- Delete Xcode, gets stuck, 3 restarts, force empty trash
- 30 GB free on HDD - App Store says not enough space to install Xcode
- free up 40 more GB
- App Store:10 -
Maybe, iOS developers get paid higher than Android developers because it's MORE STRESSFUL to use Xcode and deal with Apple Certificates.4
-
So I’m installing all the updates to Xcode and OSX to get ready to make an app update. Get ready, restart for the OSX update, reboots about 3 times. Apple splash screen comes up... Alright that was a pretty fast one...and then FUCKING FRUIT FUCKERS3
-
Fuck Xcode!
Why does every single and small update need to be at least 5GB? And why am I required to update you so fucking often? You are not fixing anything, so don’t even pretend to! Most of the time it is just to support the latest .x update in iOS. Can’t be too hard to update the SDK without updating the entire shit IDE! 😡
And guess what: I JUST UPDATED YOU, SO WHERE IS YOUR FUCKING NEW VERSION??? HOW CAN I WAIT 45 MINUTES AND AFTER THAT YOU DID NOTHING!?! HOW CAN I HAVE THE SAME VERSION AS BEFORE??? NOW I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD YOU AGAIN YOU FUCKING PEASE OF SHIT 😡😡😡1 -

Xcode - it's only free if your time is worth nothing4 -
I've legit just spent the past few days CRYING to get my react native app to compile on iOs using the xcodebuild command so that I can use a cloud build service (VS App Center). It works fine with XCode 'play' button but not through the command line. About to give up. Literally Googled 'fuck xcode' and found this, thank you guys, you made today a bit less dreary than what i was going to be. Reading through the posts actually made me laugh out loud.3

Proof that there is no drug testing at Apple:
- Xcode 10 moved code snippets in a transient spotlight-style window.
The only way you can show snippets is if you have your editor window in "browser mode" vs "document mode" and then the dumbass button with { } on it shows.
If you go into the help menu in the menubar where you can search the other menus, typing in "Snippet" shows only "Create Code Snippet" under "Editor" menu.
So to make it painfully clear, they hide the snippets under a button on a window in a particular window mode. Then, because they have now fucked up the use of Snippets, the "Create" capability becomes a "how do we do that?". This did not make them reconsider their approach... oh nooo... instead they sloppily stuff it in the regular menus all by itself... and do not put a Show Snippets near it. And conversely they don't put a "+" or "-" button in the snippets window.
So here is what happened... someone said "having the snippets in the code editor window is a pain" and someone half-listening heard "windowpane" and pulled out their stash of LSD... everyone took a hit ... and now we have a fucked up hidden button and an orphaned menu command.
I'm going to have to change my username to "XcodeDevTeamAreMorons"3 -
Motherfuck! God I hate xcode worst development environment ever conceived! Have to update it right now to be able to push to my device. Fucking appstore is the worst program ever. How about telling your users what the fuck is going on instead of just sitting there displaying a flash load circle. Gaaaaaahhh I wanted to go home 2 hours ago. Fuck you apple and all you stand for may you rot in the deepest crevices of he'll for all eternity! Fuuuuuck7
-
iOS dev here
Just wanted to share my experience on updating Xcode and why I schedule 3 hours for this process.
So, updating Xcode via the AppStore has always been flaky at best and ofcouse Xcode needs to be closed first. You hit update, the button turns gray, half an hour in you still see no progress...
That's why I often just download it from the dev center. But since Xcode Ghost the app is also wrapped in a signed container.
So,
Downloading: 10 minutes
Expaning: 60 minutes!!!
After that I move the app in place and fire it up, always have to close my music player first grrr...
After that Gate Keeper verifies the app for another 60 minutes.
Finally Xcode comes to live.
Only need to install new command line tools for another few minutes and I can continue coding.
Wait. Half my day is over!
Why Apple? Why?

When you're writing unit tests in xcode and it crashes and loses its syntax colouring and autocomplete. All of a sudden you're coding on textedit instead.2
-
People ranting about xcode, how about stop using Mac and apple products there all dog shit. Or just use another IDE or editor problem solved.8

*installs lib in project*

Xcode life 😎1 -
So I finally get code in Xcode able to compile and run after crashing in main()... due to obscure settings in it's build it does not like. Took hours of hunting around, googling, and used up all my craps table luck for the month.
Now, out of the blue, after a good 30 test run, edit, compile, run cycles... BOOM, the god damn thing starts crashing at before main() again. No friggin idea why.
Xcode says SIGABRT to me... yea well I got something for you Apple Xcode... 🖕🏼1 -
Create a new project in Xcode Version 10.1 (10B61) - Single View iOS app.
Drag a button on to the screen. It shows in InterfaceBuilder
Launch app in simulator. Button shows, then disappears. Noob says WTF?!
Poor noob has to ask me why this is happening and I explain that Apple's Single View project is a single splash screen project. The button they placed on what they thought was the single "window" is really a splash screen named "LaunchScreen".
Apple Xcode team (aka fucktards) provide yet another shitty out of the box experience...
It is so hard to be positive when teaching others how to use Xcode. Thanks for DevRant for letting me vent.1 -
❤️ Swift ❤️
A new minor version of the compiler has been released !
How sweet !
Which comes with the latest Xcode, which is of course mandatory to deploy on your devices !
How cool !
Let me also break all your code because I've decided to change some obscure programming paradigm, and also because FUCK YOU. -
Buggered by Xcode AGAIN. The inability of the debugger to do basic debugging relinquishes it to the status of "bugger", relieving it of its "de" title.
Can't show some basic expressions... copied and pasted from the running code
I mean seriously, what do you do if the debugger has more bugs than your project you are trying to analyze?2 -
one gotta love Cordova piece of shit -.-
Tested app on browser all is good, deployed on phone and that shit wasn't able to access internet, turned out I needed another cordova plugin for this shit to work.
XCode, I'm sorry bro you are much less pain than cordova :(18 -
Me: ok, time to archive this shit and publish :D
Xcode: ok. Archiving started
10min later archiving done
Publishing to app store connect,
5 min later, sorry, we can't publish this cuz u haven't changed the build number from 2 to 3¯\ _(ツ)_/¯
Me:😠ok, whatevs, let's do this, archive
Xcode: ok, archiving started
10min later, archiving done!
Me: click next to upload to app store connect, 5 min later...
XCODE: SORRY, U CAN ONLY PUBLISH ON XCODE GM'S TO APPSTORE CONECT
Me:😤 OMG, OK 3rd time is the charm...
So now xcode has started archiving, I hope nothing happens again 😬6 -
Xcode storyboard sucks!. At least it could've had a code version of the storyboards (like android XML layouts) so that at least you could properly copy paste a layout from somewhere. Autolayouts and constraints are so flipping confusing that I almost always end up doing all the layouts in the code itself.2
-
Dear Apple: FIX YOUR FUCKED UP IDE!
Generating IPA file takes ages, freezes the shit out of the mac and to make it even worse a full clean -> build -> Generate Signed APK on slow ass gradle takes barely 5 minutes while XCode takes ages9 -
Fuck you ios, storyboad, xibs, xcode. FUCK OFF!! YOU FUCKING ASSHOLES. Literally giving me migrane with your fucking ass constraints!! Fuck you xcode for not having a terminal. Ios is utterly bullshit. Has fucking all kind of devices that I have to set constraint. Fuck you macos. You are slower than a snail. How on earth do you take so much time to build!!
Width, height, constraints, my ass! What is this fucking logic bro. Fuck you apple for making so many device of different sizes and then hiring us to set constraints. Warning warning warning oh what a load of crap!
I would rather die than set your fucking ass constraints.7 -
Left Xcode to download during the whole night on our slow internet in the office. Turns out, it failed to download when I checked it this morning. Downloading it again...3
-
Noob question here, I see that every single iOS developer around here is shitting on Xcode, but then I saw this today on my way to download PHPStorm. Anyone tested it? Thoughts?7
-
Xcode 11 only 7.6GB
Earlier it was 4.7GB
New innovative bugs added or a finally good enough IDEfrom Apple?9 -
Me at 2:00 AM be like:
“WHY THE **FOOK** IS THIS CONSTRAINT BREAKING???”
“WHY IS XCODE SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT?”
“BROKE THE PROJECT FILES... HERE WE FUCKING GO AGAIN.”
“MEMORY ERRORS? H O W”23 -
Me: I've got this wonderful idea, I'll try it in swift
OSX: download the 4.47 GIGABYTE Xcode
Me: :'( ok
Xcode : you need to update your OS and that's again more than 4.5 GIGABYTE
Me : Sublime -> Main.class1 -
XCODE WINDOW COMPLETELY BLACKED OUT. RESTART COMPUTER. SPINNING WHEEL OF DEATH. CANNOT OPEN PROJECT. RESTART XCODE. STACKOVERFLOW. DELETE CACHES. RESTART COMPUTER. REPLACE PROJECT FILES. PROJECT BROKEN. CRIY FOR HOURS. PUSH FILES TO GITHUB. PULL TO NEW FOLDER. SUDDENLY WORKS. XCODE SUCK1

Short rant: I hate xcode, I hate Swift, I hate Apple.
After 3 weeks of intensive work (I'm an apprentice, part-student, part-worker), I was happy to go back to school and was like "Oh we're going to learn iOS, sounds cool !".
It is now friday, I have homicidal tendencies growing inside me, I want to cry whenever I hear xcode or swift.
Why in the hell I can't use a string argument when I'm calling a function NEEDING a string arg ?
Why do xcode take so long to tell me that there is a problem, why is the error message not explicit AT ALL ?
Why dictionaries so hard to manipulate, EVEN IN JAVA IT'S SIMPLIER.
Why putting our API call in specialized files make them run AFTER EVERYTHING ELSE and the solution that is given to us is deprecated since 5 years ?
Why is a classic c-style for loop is now deprecated ?
These are just a drop in the ocean of WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT that we came across this week.
Fuck Swift, fuck xcode.7 -
Xcode: Xcode is the perfect place to make Apple Watch apps!
Apple Docs: literally nothing not even a single fucking useless piece of information
Xcode again: no7 -
iOS11 is so buggy that it is actually ridiculous. How does a company that is worth so many billions of dollars manage to release such patchy software. Hang your head in shame Apple. If anyone hasn’t updated from iOS10 yet, hold on till iOS11.0.1
And this is without me even getting into how horrible the dev experience with Xcode has been so far 😡17 -
Client: Hey new iOS 11 is coming soon, is out app compatible?
Me: Not sure, let me shift the development to new Xcode 9 and test it out.
Client: So, how was it?
Me: pretty straight forward. all seems fine a couple of bugs.
But then when trying to fold a big function to make things easier to read, you discover that Xcode 9 beta 1,2,3 & 4 DOESN'T FUCKING SUPPORT THAT YET. How on earth is this not yet implemented?5 -
I wish I could just destroy Apple, and its fucked up IDE!
About the image:
I'm using an array of object ("SearchFilterse") called: searchFilters IT IS A FUCKING ARRAY!
What is XCode complaining about:
completion function requires an array of "SearchFilters" and the variable "searchFilters" is not an array
if xcode could only understand the line just above "completion(result, searchFilters) it will fucking understand that I'm using a goddamn array!
and if I apply its proposed solution it tells me: Cannot use [[SearchFilters]] required is [SearchFilters]
I hate my life :)undefined apple xcode = shit on shit! shit apple let me code! apple always fucks up with devs xcode apple fucked up again! -
Turned on my MacBook, opened up Xcode, within typing one line of code my computer starts heating up and the fans are loud as fuck2
-
I cannot believe its 2020 and I'm reading: Customize font size for navigation items & tabs as "New Features!"
From Apple:
With an all-new design that looks great on macOS Big Sur, Xcode 12 has customizable font sizes for the navigator, streamlined code completion, and new document tabs5 -
You would think developers would have some intelligence...
*Side note: If you're building a sort of SDK, please for fucks sake never force me to use XCode, and make sure that it actually fucking compiles without me having to fix your code" -
Me: "Sweet new Xcode update"
Me: "I'm sure they fixed all the bugs"
*starts download*
Xcode: "Want to upgrade to the latest Swift syntax?"
Me:
*clicks yes*
Me:
Me: "Fuck it, next release is 'fully rewritten from the ground up'"1 -
Part two of: a day off an iOS developer life:
1. App crashed and stack trace gives no info in which file it happened, I have a generic table view cell that is used in so many places and Xcode just wrote: xcell does not support key value.
2. Mac freezing when Xcode is creating IPA file thanks to a new feature in Xcode 9 (Mac freezing is the new feature, even mouse pointer doesn't move -.-)
3. Let's check the value of this class property, Xcode: fuck off and either print it in console (after hitting a break point) or expand that shitty tree at the bottom to reach your class property!
An advice: never click jump to definition when Xcode is indexing, it will either freezing Xcode or crash it.
Part 1 link: https://devrant.com/rants/1137208/...1 -
GOD ALMIGHTY I HATE SWIFT & XCODE...
Why the fuck does it take a horrendous amount of time to muck about with layout constraints. Why the heck does xcode choose to add constraint layouts to elements that already have pissing constraints! Why does dealing with something as trivial as tables have to be so god damn fucking involved when HTML and CSS let me create and style tables in fuck all lines.
And what the hell is up with how pissing long xcode takes just to figure out that 1 extra line of code I've just added. You jump to another file and xcode finally decides to be an ide again and bitch at the fact that you've forgotten to add some parameter or that they've decided to rename paramter "x" since version fuck nows what.
Working with abstract classes is fun, lets use protocols (because interfaces are too old school) and then lets tack on something we call extensions and then lets make people piss about with convenience initializers.
And lord almighty, what the fuck is up with casting, what all this ?! BS. What's wrong with just checking if the value is null in the first place, or whats wrong with giving something an initial value, oh because having to unwrap shit is more elegant right??
And good god, I need to own a fucking cinema screen just to have the storyboard open, there's less fucking panels on the Sistine Chapel ceiling
then there is in xcode.1 -
Just got my new MacBook Pro, so I’m in the process of installing everything..
so, Xcode has been installing for over one hour... is this normal ? 🤔18 -
There are a lot of things I don't understand in life, but the fact that I need to press tab three times in xcode to select the item in the popup tooltip is just ... I don't know fucked up?
I have a var called: isItemSelected, I need to press tab three times for it to use this option while in all other IDEs I used if it is highlighted then one FUCKING PRESS ON TAB BUTTON SELECTS THE HIGHLIGHTED SHIT !!
Fucking Apple shit -.-1 -
So we do not have an amazing internet speed. Can you imagine the dread we feel in the office when a new xcode version needs to be used to have apps be accepted by apple again. For those uninitiated: update all ios devices. Update unity to work eith newest xcode. Update to newest xcode, update mac to newest osx to actually be able to update xcode. It takes FOREVER. If this meets you at 8am, you are not building today. You are done.4
-
Having to use Xcode 4 alongside the new 8 to support old iOS versions. I almost wrote the code twice, once in Swift and once in Obj-C.
-
I hate Xcode so fricking much!
I hate Macs in general, and trying to export for iOS.
So convoluted, counter-intuitive.
And cocoapods? WTF are they?!
Visual Studio, Android Studio + Flutter is so easy: "flutter build" ....done!
But YOU, you fucking xcode peice of wank....are summink ELSE!15 -
Finally no more xcode at work :D
But now I have to work with React Native, still a better thing to work with than Ionic 1 + Angular .-.6 -
Every FUCKING time iOS releases a version update, I have to update my Xcode, my code to the latest swift, my third party libraries..
Do you feel my pain , Apple?1 -
I've been using visual studio for years and always found debugging pretty fun. At my new job I have to use xcode and FUCK DEBUGGING IN THAT ILLEIGBLE SHIT TIER DEBUGGER. and fuck objective-c, at least you can ignore the objective part and just code c..
I never thought I would say this, but damn, I miss Microsoft.9 -
5000 characters aren't enough to express how much I fucking hate Xcode and iOS developing in general4
-
Very important lesson I learned while working with Xcode:
Always have multiple major versions installed and ready to be used.
Xcode 9 can't convert old Swift 2.2 project to Swift 4 and can't open the "old" project? Xcode 7 can help you.
Xcode 9 crashes randomly while moving top level packages? Xcode 8 can help you.
Yeah, always funny to find new bugs in Xcode...4 -
Woke up 4am today to push my first iOS app. Took me three phucking hrs to realise apple is down! Their FUCKING dev stats website says all is green! Fuck u xcode1
-
@apple since I can't move Xcode's instruction pointer without crashing Xcode or my app, I have to use a global with 'if' statements to have optional debugging logic.
if( ! gAppleFuckTards) {
... do optional code stuff
}
and then change the value of gAppleFuckTards with the debugger to execute the code.. but WAIT
Xcode purports to be able to change values via debugger but really cannot... can't change gAppleFuckTards to false in the debugger. But that kinda makes sense as it is an empirical truth.
Thwarted by the cosmos again!2 -
Fuck XCode! -
Yesterday I had the stupid idea to rename an icon file. Checked that XCode was building the application still fine. Ran it over the build server: Failed, complaining about the old missing icon file! Checked again and again, but there was no friggin' reference to the old file in the whole repo.
Log in to the machine clear the build folder and try to build the component again. Bang still same error and the references to no longer existing files reappear.
Turns out XCode was caching those references somewhere in the home directory as "DerivedData" and after deleting those, I could build again... but why on earth are you building a cache if you cannot properly invalidate it? Just to waste our time?

XCode you fucking piece of shit...
So I just wanted to process my ios app to the app store and start the archive process. All of the sudden:
Command CodeSign failed with a nonzero exit code
What? So there is an error and you cannot tell me the error code? All information you give me that it isn't zero!? Wow... Amazing... What a great user experience. Maybe it cannot resolve the error? Maybe it is some external tool Apple has no access to and that is the only valid error they can throw at us?
Oh hell no! It has something to do with the keychain access! But why tell the user? That wouldn't be as much fun as just tell it is a nonzero error, isn't it apple?!
In the end locking and unlocking my key chain solved the problem... Thanks for nothing XCode!2 -
So in the last 2 hours I felt both frustrating and happiness, because of Xcode and code signing.
So what I did yesterday was removed all the Xcode certificates on my keychain because I had major issues getting the newest version of the certificates despite have auto signing enabled.
Without much notice until going to send the iOS app today through Fabric I came across an error while uploading the newest build :/
Googling it I found the same issue on stack overflow with only two answers one being fastlane, which just automated the process to the same error LOL
So anyways I found the solution and was quite happy about it :D I had to go to the apple developer website and download the right certificate DESPITE the auto signing ...
Anyways uploaded and done!
Also added a stack overflow answer in regards to it, I hope it helps someone out.
Oh and I emailed fabric to ask for help and 30 mins later emailed them basically saying NVM fixed it! Lol
Fuck you Xcode lol -
If there was an IDE which combines Xcodes debugging with Android Studios code completion, that would be an almost perfect IDE!
In Xcode you don‘t have to start the debugging process explicitly, you just set breakpoints while the app is running. Thats so much better than in Android Studio where you have to switch from normal running to debug mode.
In Android Studio you can use a function which is not declared yet and if you declare it afterwards, it is recogniced and can be completed by the code completion. Xcode does not know shit about undeclared funtions...5 -
How I always feel about Xcode when compiling Swift code, opening storyboard files, or just in general.
We need to make some of these stickers. ++ -
After 24 hours waiting for Xcode 9 to finish download, I run it on an existing project and got greeted with this:
Indexing Text
For fucknsake you piece of shit! Because indexing project isn't enough now Xcode index text! What the fuck are Apple employees smoking 😔4 -
That moment when you change a color property in the interface builder and Xcode decides to go batshit crazy then crash.1
-
All I am asking for is a debugger in Xcode that works as well as Macintosh Programmer's Workshop ( MPW) circa 80's/90's. Maybe I am being unreasonable?
I stepped a line in the debugger and all the variables disappear... and all I get is the spinny "fuck you" indicator and the variables all disappear.
But here is the worst part... Apple isn't holding any of those fucktards on the Xcode team accountable for producing a shit product.
I'm really glad I don't have to do this as a full time job anymore. Then why do I continue to pound nails with my forehead (use Xcode)?
Whip me, beat me, make me use Xcode...5 -
When Xcode 9.3 is available, but Swift.org hasn’t updated to Swift 4.1 yet.
What the hell? 🤦🏻♂️
Update:: just kidding, it shows apparently. Ugh.2 -
Apple Developer webportal(s). My god, how on earth do you manage to make navigating and managing iOS projects so bad.
I mean seriously, for a company that makes some of the best UX experiences, and has the most design focussed thinking in the world, this has to single handedly be the worst god gam experience ever.
I mean, did your xcode IDE team have nothing to do so you let them make this pile of fucking trash.1 -
While developing on xcode, I will be spending more time on waiting for the xcode to respond to my actions than actually writing code, especially when editing the storyboard, FUCK APPLE!8
-
In the “Qualities of Great Design” session at #WWDC2018. Really wish the Xcode team could be sitting in the front row so they couldn’t sleep thru the session...
oh i guess being the optimist I was thinking they would even be here. Silly me.
All the bugs that drive me effen crazy are clear and present in Xcode 10 beta. Stupid shit still rules at Xcode Central. -
WOW Xcode is such a trash fucking application, I am so pissed at how much I have to fight this damn piece of shit program to get my work done
The time it takes to index my code is disgustingly long, I sit and sit and wait for it to FINALLY recognize I've added a new variable to the header file before it can begin to suggest autocompletions, but wait??? Why is it telling me there's errors about another variable? On a line of code that doesn't even fucking mention that variable??? BETTER WAIT IT OUT FOR IT TO INDEX SOME MORE, NO XCODE MY CODE ISN'T ERRONEOUS, YOU ARE YOU CRAP SHOOT!!
AND WHY WON'T YOU LET ME SPLIT VIEW YOU WITH ANOTHER APP??2 -
var rant: QuantumBool = PartlyTrue
So now I think I've got everything in my app right.... But I can't test it because ***** xcode doesn't create a **** certificate so I can deploy it to my phone (it uses motion sensors)
I deleted all the certificates of developer from the keychain because of a bug and now I **** can't deploy my apps for testing....
Please, does anyone know how to reset the icloud keychain to absolute nothing?7 -
I am officially crying because of xcode, all I want to do is sign the fucking version and get on with my life, arghhhh WHY APPLE???? WHYYYYYYYYYU??@?#!@?#!@??@@4
-
Fuck apple, and fuck xcode.
Making and running android app was a breeze.
Making and running ios app was hell.
Expectation : I should have gotten everything I need just by installing xcode and flutter.
Reality : I need to install these from the terminal : xcode command line tools, homebrew, ruby, cocoapods, firebase-cli. Also I need to manually add many stuffs, such as google login url into xcode project settings. Also we can simply test run our app or install to our device, and iphone we owned, we need to register in apple developer program, fill a full form, blah blah blah.
When it comes to android, I only need to register an account much much later, when I want to publish it to the playstore.5 -
Access undefined as undefined....
Apple devs need a break. Xcode devs need to be sent to another planet -_-4 -
I need to add a certificate to an Apple ID. First time doing that - should be no trouble.
> Open Xcode
> Xcode --> Preferences... -> Accounts
> Select the correct Apple ID
> Manage Certificates...
Hmm. What's this '+' button?
> Clicks the button
> Categories show up - no descriptions for their use beyond names. Maybe if I click one?
> Clicks arbitrary category
> Immediately creates a certificate and adds it to keychain
> Can't be removed from this window
> Must be revoked from Apple's portal and then deleted
I feel dumb.3 -
Will a brand new MacBook Pro make your day the worst?
Yes! It will if you are an iOS developer who fucks with xCode everyday.
Let me tell you the story of my day with the brand new MacBook Pro.
I wanted to build my application for iOS 13. For that I should have the latest xCode latest version. For the latest xCode version to work I should have the latest OS.
It took a long fucking time for downloading the latest OS dmg file. And for the fuck sake I was not able to install the same as the file vault was being encrypted.
That fucking encryption thing took half a day. And then I installed the OS. Then, I waited for a long time while the pile of shit(xCode) was downloading.
Then I installed xCode too. And now you know what the day ends and it's time to fucking sleep.17 -
I'm unable to upload archives thru Xcode ever since I updated to version 8.2.1. Updating to 8.3.3 didn't help either. I always have to use application loader.1
-
!Rant
Xcode 9 is now officially out, will I be writing new types of rants OR will I be saying sorry to Apple for all those Xcode hate rants I wrote.
Tomorrow is a new day :)4 -
Have a issue to deliver today, Xcode start to act weird...
Ok let's just quit Xcode and open again...
"Xcode can't be opened while updating"
Fuck no! Who gave you permission for that, stop! Stop!
Hmm.... boss won't like this9 -
Spent an entire week working on XCode configurations for a react-native+swift+objc bridging project. Been failing builds all week. Finally i look over to see the glorious word Succeeded!
Then I realized it was the clean that succeeded, not the build. FFS1 -
Xcode is pissing me off:
- Suddenly it starts force quitting every 2 minutes
- Every second time it doesn't know everything and only can autocomplete words that were already in the document
- Playground pages: Good idea, works horribly.
- when I use modules from CocoaPods the first time, I need to restart Xcode and the computer 5 times till I don't run into build errors
- it likes to just throw random errors everywhere and leaving you unable to build anything
- it only copies new files every second or third time into the project folder.
I'm really pissed. I just wanted to code... -
I absolutely fucking hate Xcode, the pile of shit ide. Even when I set the default ide for Java files it STILL FUCKING OPENS XCODE FFS.
-
Nightmare morning. Woke up for the fact that my app in app store is crashing on opening. Yesterday submitted improvements to the app (react-native).
Tested locally on simulator and also on real machine by react-natives --variant Release. Worked ok. But now when I build it with xcode and sent it to app store, it's no longer working at all =/.
Im losing users by every minute. Was able to immediately make a hotfix, but apple has not taken any hurry in reviewing it. Also it's not possible to revert previous version in app store, I just have to submit a new version that will be reviewed. I even called them and they promised to hurry but nothing's happened and it's been like 4-5 hours already.
I got so bad luck because usually in review they test the app, but now they didn't, and this time it didn't work at all. And I thought that testing it by react-natives --variant release mode would be enough, but apparently theres something different when you build and archive it with xcode. I feel my app is doomed now, many of the users might abandon it completely =/.
If I learned something it is that always try to test the last modified version of the app. Even if the modification seems small. Don't trust react-natives --variant release for testing an ios app.2 -
I never understood why updating iTunes prevents Xcode from running?
Why Xcode needs to be closed to update a music player? Do both rely on same files for reading connected devices?6 -
How can you finish your tasks fast when this fucking Xcode from hell, the worst IDE ever, is slowing you down? $H!+@UC!@#$%^&*3
-
Watching a video on YouTube that shows: Refactoring and Extract Method features in xcode 9 beta brings a tear to my eye, never thought we will get that basic functionality 😢
-
I finally learnt how to use Xcode storyboards and constraints properly. They’re pretty awesome and no longer annoying.2
-
Xcode: took away the ability to manage multiple windows as documents; everything is a half-assed safari browser window that neither works like Mail nor like Safari.
Xcode: took away the ability to have variables in the debugger in separate displays, now it is a single basket of eye-bleeding variable/data spew.
Xcode: took away the ability to modify variable values in the debugger, it's just broken and lets you think you can but reverts the value.
Xcode: took away the debugger's ability to modify the execution pointer. You can't move the current line of execution to the previous line, the line past the current line, nothing.
The same internal human virus that manages the Alzheimers 'upgrades' of macOS Server seems to be managing the Xcode debugger, more aptly named now "Xcode stepper" cuz it makes a lot of motion but goes nowhere fast.1 -
FUCK XCODE. FUCK AUTOLAYOUT. I have been working on my app for eight months, perfecting every detail and making the UI absolutely stunning. Today, Apple rejected my app for not supporting iPad. My app was not supposed to support iPad, I would hate for a user to install on an iPad. So, I said whatever and tried to autolayout the app. This didn't work, so I turned off autolayout. Guess what. My entire layout was destroyed and when I tried to click the undo button, nothing happened. This is classic Xcode. I am so fucking pissed, I want to scream. I just lost months of hard work because they can't fucking get their developer tool working, but they can release a phone with no headphone jack.4
-
FFS Xcode can’t talk to an iPhone and and Android studio can’t pick an Android SDK. The help page doesn’t even mention “Android SDK”
Race to the bottom to be the shittiest SDK I’m telling ya! -
I wonder if everyone on DevRant grouped together and posted bug reports on Xcode, would it generate any positive response at Apple?1
-
is it the fact that I'm running XCode on a '11 MacBook Air or is auto complete just the slowest thing ever. I feel like it adds so much dev time8
-
I really don't like the anxiety when Xcode crashes, I need to force quit it and really really hope that my code is saved...
-
Dear xcode,
you fckn bitch did it again. I really wanted to do some iOS development, I swear. But you are like an abusive relationship, I have this weird habit of coming back to you even though I am getting fucked in the ass in parallel.
I love Swift but I despise you xcode. Randomly fucking up my workflow, and then it is clean build folder, reset package cache, restart xcode. Again and again and again you fuck things up out of nowhere. And from time to time, you just have to install the newest version of xcode because its so fucked up its easier to download this MASSIVE asshole than to even try to fix anything if you know its just xcode again.
Yeah, fuck extensions and formatting. Just fuck humanly tolerable build time. Fuck you xcode.
I am not an experienced dev with iOS nor am I a common Mac user but this is just wrong. I feel violated and the joy of development sucked out of my soul while I try to navigate through the overloaded interface.
I am not even going into details about iOS development, its just that xcode is the gatekeeper to get me the fuck out of this miserable place that is native iOS development.
Arrivederci, suckers.4 -
Xcode Lockup #35: Changing Variable Names
You right click on a variable and get the opportunity to change the name throughout the project. Yea!
It does this funky visual collapse thing which is rather nice, showing you everywhere it is used. Fancy. And the world needs more fancy, doesn't it.
For some reason instead of letting me change the variable, I get the Beach Ball Of Death and Xcode unceremoniously quits. BUT NOT BEFORE THE FUCKER SAVED THE PROJCT FILE STATE. What?
Now I re-open the project and yep, we are back into the variable name change fancy interface and Beach Ball Of Death. Looks like the project file is now fucked.
But it was oh so important to give me the fancy folding interface... we (Xcode dorks) will fix the defects later.
Time to do some research and find an Xcode manager mailing address... cuz I'm really tired of this shit...

Is it just me, or is it the worst possible time to jump into coding for Apple products?
I remember trying to figure out Xcode a few years back and making some small bit of headway. More recently it seems that all the old tutorials in Objective-C are out-of-date, and half the Swift ones won't compile because of mutually incompatible versions...1 -
Ffs. I thought I never had to touch development for ios devices anymore but I was wrong.
The god damn piece of shit hybrid app build in apache cordova works perfectly fine on android but guess what, after signing that pile of crap with xcode it won't work on ios because somehow that retarded os forgets to listen for click events on a simple fucking button which is used to activate the app.
Had to create a virtual machine with osx and wait for xcode to instal, sign that app only to figure out it won't work..
Even after seaching google for 3 FUCKING HOURS there are still no FUCKING RESULTS.
I'm done with the entirety of apple and all their products. -
Xcode is frustratingly slow and horrible. They engineered it really badly. Why don't you just please collaborate with these intelligent Jetbrains guys? No, you won't do that because ego or because money is more important than your developers' happiness. I do not enjoy this career path to your ecosystem anymore.2
-
I've always loved to change technologies to work with...I developed Desktop applications, Web applications, android applications...and now I'm working on an IOS app and I have just one message to whoever came up with the brilliant idea of a drag & drop system for views in XCode:
I DO NOT RESPECT YOU AS A HUMAN BEING.
Sincerely,
Me1 -
Way to go Xcode, you make something as simple as a splash screen an insane headache of cOnStrAiNts
WTF is going on
fuck you -
Apple just told me to get a new Mac to allow me to upload apps to the store by setting their minimum Xcode version to 15 which my Mac currently does not support. This version was released less than six months ago if I'm not mistaken, and now I have to head to the bank tomorrow because Apple.2
-
Keep restarting my mobile app because I keep discovering new ways to make it. Xcode? Xamarin? Skade? Flutter?6
-
Apple should have a developer version of their stupid computers. It would have Xcode already installed, and 50 Gb of extra storage space lord know how big they are gonna make that app.
-
so am on yosemite with xcode 7.2 and I want to debug an ios 9.3.2 but I first need to upgrade to El capitan and then xcode to 7.3. unbelievable!!!!!2
-
*me writing my sweet code like nothing bad could happend*
Xcode: bum! Compiling error
Me: what the...
*compile again
Xcode: yeah right. Bam! Error
*clean, etc. compile again
Xcode: yeah, try your luck looser
Me: ok, let's google it. First stack overflow answer: just change the simulator and should work correctly.
And of course it worked. And that's how it works all day.
Fuck you Xcode! Fuck you Apple! -
Wish Apple would add Vim emulation to Xcode and never again even think about removing the ESC key.
XVim is buggy and doesn't work with Xcode 9.1 -
6hrs trying to get a static and dynamic cell working in Swift. Xcode crashes and not a fucking thing was saved! My git commits make no fucking sense!4
-
I do like using my Mac, but it's just annoying that the terminal is linked to xcode. Why do you need to keep downloading a massive app update for xcode when I never use the app itself?!?!3
-
If you want to experience the definition of hell, do iOS Development and use their only allowed IDE called "Xcode". It was made by Satan himself. You're welcome.9
-
does anyone know what other storage is? I got on my mac today and was going to reinstall xcode after deleting it because of how shitty the software is but I couldn't download it because I didn't have enough space. I go to look at my storage and I have 155 GB of storage named "other" AND IT WONT EVEN LET ME CHECK WHAT OTHER IS9
-
Fuck you xcode, let me resize my goddamn window to whatever fucking size I want it to be. I'm writing code, I think I can decide for myself how big I want my window to be.1
-
When you see: "Agreeing to the Xcode/iOS license requires admin privileges, please re-run as root via sudo." in the Jenkins console log and realize that XCode was updated.
-
"Help, Xcode hangs when trying to open xib file"
"Have you tried re....considering your career path?" -
The fact that I am forced to use xCode more and more again, really gets me. I miss vsCode (especially monokai pro) a lot already, but the phonegap developer app simply doesn't work with things like touchid to preview the app.
-
Why xcode and ApplicationLoader sucks?
Everytime I've to upload IPA to testflight/store, xcode and AL would fail 100 times before successfully uploading one.4 -
What baffles me is how despite being on version 3 of Swift, Apple still havent updated Xcodes refactoring tools to support it. All I want to do is rename a variable or function but oh no. "Xcode can only refactor C or Objective-C code". Yet they are plowing on with new features in other areas like the interface builder but completely ignoring the tools that make IDEs useful.
-
Why in the world does xcode not have automatically generated constructors, getters and setters while android studio has them 😓3
-
OK, so with a lot of free time on my hands, I figured I'll finally sit down and figure out how to use Xcode and write iOS apps.
Hit the iBookstore and check out the latest version of their guide to "App Development in Swift", and...promptly run into a brick wall because it's based on Xcode 10 and Xcode 11 seems to organize projects in a completely different manner.
Decide I'll just hit developer.apple.com and check the resources there...to find they're all written for Xcode 8.
Online tutorials have been mostly misses because of mutual incompatibilities between different versions of Swift rendering anything but the latest version useless, it seems.
Which is a long way of asking, does anyone know of any good resources for someone trying to finally figure all this out?5 -
Xcode is Apple’s reason to shame.
It is unbelievable how Xcode can exist at all as product/tool of the world most big and important company as Apple.
I’m pissed off every time I see Xcode update notifications, it takes me 3 days to get my projects running on Xcode new $hitty versions.5 -
In Xcode you can't have your project file view AND compile errors/warnings view visible at the same time. You always need to switch between them because they are different tabs in the left panel called the Navigator.
This lack of customizability is the worst part of Xcode. -
Favorite IDE: Xcode
Text Editor: Atom
Reasons: Xcode is was I was “first” introduced to on my own.
Atom just seems really smooth and I enjoy using it.1 -
What was I thinking when I decided to hackintosh my laptop?
I underestimated how much I hate myself.
Oh yeah, I need Xcode.
Days without sleep: 2 -
The moment you pull the latest changes just to find out that your new coworker edited all the js files in xcode1
-
Are there any alternatives to xcode, my old mac is having real problems and I hate it? I'm open to any suggestions, the only thing is it needs to be free.2
-
I have to admit, even though it's been less than a day with this thing, I'm really enjoying the M1 Air and all the really small things.
And I can finally have Xcode on the damn internal SSD without worrying about storage limits.4 -
Worked as a swift ios developer for 2years now, boycotted java (android) and objective-c alltogether.
Have to do both plus javascript because my cto is marvelled by the promises of react-native...
The damn guy doesn’t have to implement a single line of code ! I do !
As if having to dev on xcode 9 wasn’t bad enough already 👏👏 -
When xcode wont stop whinging about your lack of updating a var since creation. Yes. Its currently looking immutable but will be updated in a short while when I get to that code!!!!! Hence the reason for var!
Everything
"Oh Lord, let there be var".
You c what I did there? 😜👊 -
I just looove waiting 30 min on average to try an iOS build.
It's so productive to twirl my thumbs for about 1,5 hours a day.
xcode, so fast, much wow...1 -
today my friend wanted to publish his swift 3 library in cocoapods, set up proper github repository, made a releass/tag then tried to upload cocoa pods. first was success but somehow it turned out to be empty then we changed some settings in cocoapods (moved paths etc) then it started to give errors and such. strangely every fkin time different kind of error.
first realized he is using xcode 7 build tools which lacks support of swift3, then switchex to xcode8-beta tools but again that shit wasnt working. so i noticed that their app switching repo origin to their specs origin.
removed cocoapods from sys entirely, xcode7 as same as cocoapods and installed git cmd tools from homebrew to make it updated. started from scratch same shit also happened.
so i give up and fired chrome to look up issue, it turns out it was problem with xcode-beta and cocoapods entirely, even somebody just 30mins before us also commented on issue with exact same output problems
5hrs for shitty bugs fml... -
For all the iOS developers in here, Xcode 8.2.1 has a bug, when trying to sign an archive for store deployment, you will get an unexplained error saying "code signing fail", after for hours of frustration, tears and trial and error, I ended up signing it with xcode 7. I hope this helps2

xcode rant
After a long and exhausting progress that feels like it took days! (maybe a day lol). I came to the conclusion that StoryBoard is probably one of the biggest pains in the universe. I tried to center a UIImage View for an eternity to work both with landscape and portriat and continued to get vaying results with no actual pattern whatsoever.... One day I woke up and there was actually more textfields than were originally put on...... wahhhhh?
Within this eternity I decided that my only hope against losing all sanity and bashing my head against a keyboard screaming "#$%# you Xcode!" was to do the UI in AutoLayout Programmatically. Took me 1 hour.... thats it... Just one. Instant love. haha
Okay Im done now. Have a great day devRanters! -
"How can one Xcode point release cause so many problems?!"
Eight years iOS experience. Gets me every time.1 -
Fuck fucking Xcode that keeps closing the simulator every time I try to debug my app!!! Xcode developers, please refer here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... -
Fuck XCode. Worst IDE ever. Forgot to declare namespace for function in cpp file and it can't even underline it. And in addition to that, the slowest IDE!!!1
-
Dear Xcode, \n you are out of your non-existing mind! The clunkiness and awkwardness I experience working with you, I attribute mostly to myself, being unfamiliar with the way of the Mac(TM) and far too lazy to take the time to properly set you up - BUT are you sure you need friggin' 14.25 GB free disk space just to perform a little update?
Yours *** -
Why does xcode take so much time to install? I am come on! I wasted 4 hours and it still isn't done.13
-
New Xcode update causes my breakpoints to take up to 10 seconds to hit. Yet another reason why I think Xcode is trash.1
-
Pressing the provisioning profiles "fix this issue" button in Xcode... And getting roasted for being a noob by the entire office.1
-
I know what my e-mail address says... but I have to say, the integration of AI with the code completion in Xcode Version 16.2 beta 2 (16C5013f) is so good it is scary. It is like it is reading my mind. I'm getting nervous about getting an MRI "Sir do you have any metal in your skull?" Me: "Oh god, did they implant some shit for Xcode to read my damn mind... this is going to friggin hurt!"
But seriously, I'm not at all a Swift fan but I have to say that with this AI auto complete, it is like having a "yea, this is how you normally would do this, how about we do this here" helper in the Mac.
But since the Xcode windows are all these dumb ass file browsers instead of document windows, I'm going to maintain: Xcode (still) Sucks... but a little less with this shit-hot AI code completion!2 -
So I just purchased the base model 2018 13"macbook pro (Fight me) and am finnaly thinking about giving xcode a chance and trying native mac development seeing as my Mac wont double as a radiator when I open it.
Am I going to really be in a world of hurt or will i be surprised?4 -
XCode is so terrible. I have to force quit it several times a day in so many use cases. I wonder why Apple cares so little about us developers. I dream with the day they’ll make XCode a good IDE. Everytime I run maps on the simulator my CPU goes to 700% and every time I checkout a branch, the thing hangs there so I have to forcf quit it 😠😫
-
Why do I struggle sooooo much with xCode and Swift just trying to place a button in the View that when you click, runs a function? I can do this very easily with Visual Studio and C# but not xCode.
Anyone know a good (simple) tutorial video on creating views with xCode and Swift? Every one I’ve seen all assume that you have programmed in Swift for over 10 years.2 -
When you just want to do a simple "brew install apache-flink" and you come to find out the sad realization that your Xcode is outdated and it's either going to be 100 years to update it or delete the godforsaken app altogether (only takes about 50 years)
-
Some cross-platform developers here, who did something with Java on Android from time to time and then had to do something for iOS?
With xCode you feel like I'm back in the 00s again... But in the MacStore it is advertised as "The 1 one developer tool on Mac".6 -
Want to start writing swift for iOS, but I'm split between using AppCode and/or Xcode. Any suggestions? :)2
-
macOS - just nothing makes sense.
You try to go away from the deprecated stuff, use the new shinier API to stop and start services with launchctl (bootstrap/bootout vs. load/unload). And how does this stellar OS thank you for that? By crashing your service. Thanks for nothing.
From developer perspective this whole OS is just such a nightmarish clusterfuck. If you want to set up code signing with some special entitlements and you try to use the provisioning profiles as advertised, it's like pulling the one-armed bandit. It will plunder your coins and sanity. You try to compile it, it fails or the executable will be killed - you enable and disable the automatic codesigning in Xcode, or delete and download you old code signing cert and suddenly it works. It's just random - and you have to perform random walks on the Xcode project settings to make it run. So Apple turned us into Xcode clicking monkeys... -
All the iOS devs in the house, is it just me or has the latest Xcode beta taken lots of steps back in terms of stability?1
-
I am going to buy a new iMac, but how much power does Xcode and photoshop. should I buy one with i7 mid model or i5 high end model?8

That beautiful moment when you run a #xcode test that you know must fail but you get the green lantern ¬¬

iOS Storyboards in Xcode feels like Dreamveawer. This Autolayout and Safe Area shit doesn't make any sense. As for Xcode itself it's a monstrosity, looking forward to purging that and reclaim my disk space.
-
I use vim and get bothered when people try and get me to use Code::Blocks, XCode or Visual Studio, ask me anything.
-
Added vapor core swift package to my project so that I can use some of the extensions, had to `rm -rf ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/` to make xcode realise the repo is actually exist.
Then I set the Core package as dependency of one of the targets, XCode complaints "unknown package Core", ok fine then I remove Core dependency, Core complaints "dependency Core is not used by any target".
How can xcode comes to this contradicting conclusion is out of my imagination, it just never gonna be happy about however i write.1 -
Had to do something with Xcode for a while now. After 2 hours my tolerance for strange errors, which are solved with cleaning build folder or closing/re-opening the IDE, is used up for the next 10 years...

Hi all,
I want to ask if the latest version of Xcode doesn't have a Single App Application feature? And what is a suitable replacement?1 -
So apparently the most recent version of xcode is buggy? I just got the new macbook pro with the touchbar and was excited to dive into ios app development. Should i wait to download xcode until the issues are fixed? Any xcode users out there?1

Seriously. Is there ANY way to work with my colleagues on the same xcode project, or is it fucked, and have to manually copy-paste storyboards, and .swift files? I found that it’s the easiest way so far. Any recommendations?6

On a side note, XCode 14.0.1 up and running in a new time record on an HDD (not SSD)
Was always dreaming of this moment ever since XCode 6, finally it came true -

Any way to increase tab font size in xcode 12? Or Apple only gave an option to increase navigator font size (well three options instead of customizable font size .... but at least I can now better read dir tree of my project lol)

Updated to Xcode 11.4, now git doesn't work and I need to download 1GB of Dev tools to get it working.
Xcode alone is 8GB wtf is included there if I still need to download more tools?1 -
Unity VS Xcode for beginner noob iOS game development? Is it better for a new programmer to learn Unity or learn the frameworks Apple offers?1

I ❤ Swift and Xcode. However, tempted to learn React Native. Just so that I can put my apps on both the App Stores. Also ability to get more projects. What do you think? Is it worth learning? Thank you for the feedback in advance!😀1

OK, Started to work on iOS app few months ago. Had to deal with so many xcode and swift problems that it is driving me nuts. How any sane person can code this shit language? I never seen such an idiotic syntax in my life. I worked with so many languages in past 12 years: C++, Java, Python, PHP, Ruby, JavaScript. So many code editors & IDE's: Subline, Notepad++, Eclipse, Jetbrains, VSCode, Atom. But after working XCode and Swift for few months I want to burn down my MacBook that I only had to get to work on this iOS app with this shitty XCode IDE.7
