Nice, I just removed my dpkg folder instead of dpkg/lock. Today is the first and only day for this week I can sit at my desk to work and this is first thing I did. And then I whine that I'm stressed and couldn't finish my tasks.

I would think that in this Lord's year of 2018, dpkg would be able to install two things at once, but alas, my assumption proved to be wrong.

Some how this created a zombie process And used a ton of the ram and the ram usage leaked out of the VM and into the host server
And I had to explain to him why a package manager meant for a system with dpkg will not work on one that uses rpm

Many users in devRant use Windows but then the "Arch Linux Alliance" short ALA came together to invade devRant. After some weeks, the small group FedB ("Fedora Bureau") also joined the OS Wars. When the release of Ubuntu 16.10 was near the UBO ("UbuntuBestOS Alliance") joined and was near to victory, because dpkg was faster than ever before. But then the macOS Defenders woke up. They finally finished the upgrade to Sierra and tried to fight the other OSes. They wanted to attack with their package manager, but that attack failed. After days of war Windows crashed while updating, which made it unoperational. They called it Blue Screen. After windows gave up, the other groups realized, that they are all built with the same base. They called it Unix. They grouped up (except macOS, because they just want to make money) and discovered the remains of Windows. They found a software named "Ubuntu bash for Windows". Everyone in the group was angry, because UBO teamed up with Windows. They destroyed UBO and continued.

In all fairness to macOS. To it's weird design choices, both Linux and Windows should copy way of installing most of macOS programs. Downloading and mounting .DMG file, drag & dropping the app into Applications folder and done! Life would be so much simpler with it. And yes, I know apt install/pacman -S/dpkg -i/any other package manager is quicker, but average Joe doesn't care about it!

Then again, it would create yet ANOTHER package managing method supported by two distros that no one really cares for...

I had to build a few packages today from a git source.

Everything just plain text or shell scripts - so no fancy shit, no buildsystem... Nothing.

I was painfully reminded why I had forgotten a lot about dpkg package builds.

Fun facts:
- seems like impossibro to define an output directory for debuild (../ from source which must be pwd/cwd)
- i used /opt/<vendor_name>... Purging the deb from system deletes opt too, as it is empty
- reprepro (or whateva it is called) fails with an "uncommon GPG error" instead of saying "I don't know which key to use"
- creating rolling release numbers (as the packages won't have a real versioning system...) is fun - when you remember that date isn't sufficient, as the time part is necessary to build multiple packages (versions) per day

Compared to an Gentoo ebuild, this was really rocket science....

Guess as soon as someone does not follow the debian way, he must be shunned and exiled. At least it felt like this ....

I had a fun experience today.
Updated my system, got plenty of unsuspecting dpkg errors. Couldn't figure out how to solve them (all relating to something python-*). Next issue was Firefox, which wouldn't even start.
Uninstall, reinstall.
And it won't even start up without immediately giving me some XML error related to... chrome? Whatever.
Start it from the terminal, mostly to see if it gives me the error in more detail. Ublock Origin does not like when Firefox gets reinstalled apparently. Spend more time than I'd like to admit getting a Firefox to start in safe mode with all extensions disabled. Apparently it's 'firefox -safe-mode' (yes I didn't try the obvious because I wasn't thinking). Uninstall all my extensions then Install them again, problem solved.

Now to solve those damn dpkg errors...

Some people like to spring clean, rearrange their house, wash their car, build shelves, or some other chore.

Me? I just spent a couple or so days manually "syncing" the packages on my 2 laptops. That is, making sure that `apt-mark showmanual` and `dpkg-query -l` shows the exact same output on both of them, by manually apt-marking / apt-get installing / removing the exact same set of packages as manual/auto and ensuring the exact same set of "recommended" / "suggested" packages are pulled as dependencies on both.

The end result is a sysad's ideal - I have wasted countless hours making sure absolutely nothing has changed. But hey, my package list is clean, and if aliens from a software dimension abducted one laptop... I have an exact clone ready.

some recent discoveries of mine:

- DOS FDISK has totally-undocumented CLI (partitioning with auto-format and OTF drive mapping... like one OEM used it for their machine recovery discs and no one else even knows it exists) docs coming soon (this is a lie i found this a year or two ago but forgot till yesterday)

- nuitka is a fucking blessing and the man who made it deserves so much love for it

- my existence is one massive waste of time

- apparently some B450 boards require you to hit a button and test your fans' min/max values and it takes like an hour and IT STILL DOESN'T MAKE THEM VISIBLE FROM THE OS ASROCK YOU FUCKS

- the new Ryzen took my latest project's compile time from 30 hrs to like 6 because I can compile 12 things at once instead of just 4

- installing debian sucks ass now, they forgot to push part of apt to the 10.3 stable installer so you just can't install shit through apt until you fix that, though dpkg works

- apparently they pushed a grub-efi-amd64 version that breaks all efivars??? i know debian sid is like meant to be unstable but a bug like that should never have even been rolled into a package till it was fixed like ???????????

- depression sucks ass

five minute of panic upgrading to xubuntu 17.10

dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run sudo dpkg --configure -a to correct the problem.

Fortunately sudo apt-get dist-upgrade save the day.

Question about stacks: I've got a .deb file that I can't install on Manjaro. I can't use dpkg because the dependencies are nonexistent in manjaro's repositories. Should I look for a way to install with dpkg or should I learn docker?

Okay, so debian is just fucked by default then.

Created a Debian 10 persistence stick, and I'm having the fucking xorg issues ("No screens detected", xrandr says the same) i've had every fucking time i've installed debian, except a simple round of dpkg-reconfigure isn't fixing it this time.

Suggestions?

Things tried:

- dpkg-reconfigure <every package even remotely related>
- X -configure
- installing all firmware from linux-firmware repo
- reinstalling everything remotely related (with both reinstall and purge/install)
- Wayland ("failed to create compositor backend")
- creating my own xorg configs and driver-radeon configs and all that shit with my screen explicitly defined
- remaking the stick with a redownloaded ISO
- actually installing it to a HDD first
- crying in frustration
- different monitors
- someone else's machine (both AMD GPUs, mine's an R9 380, his an RX 3-digit something-or-other)
- an NVIDIA card (other tester threw his old 1080TI in his PC, set up all the drivers and shit, and nothing fucking changed)

what is this, Fedora?

Pip version 7 is to Pip version 8 what's dpkg is to apt-get.
V7 deals so bad with dependencies..
