Things I hate about Microsoft (Part 1):
Windows: Does things I don't want it to do. Is not user friendly. It is just user familiar.
Outlook / Hotmail: Drops emails silently, which are RFC conform and pass every other mail service. No error messages or notifications.
Edge: Does not / Partially support(s) some modern standards.
IE: No explanation needed.
Design language: border-radius: 0 !important
Business model: Let's make our own hardware, so we can compete with our hardware partners (HP, Dell, ...). Isn't that a perfect idea.
Tracking: Let's track everything of our users. Even how many photos they open in our OS*. What they get from that? Well they could get personalised ads on Bing. Isn't that a perfect model.

I just hate npm dependencies.
If you want to write a small website with npm dependencies (some frontend deps like Bootstrap and some development deps like gulp or babel) you will have more npm dependencies in your project than own code. It is ridiculous, how some lazy developers just add dependencies to their projects, without evaluating their dependencies. The source code of one of my projects is around 4MB (without any dependencies). If you then run yarn as required, it grows to around 80MB (where 73MB are node_modules).
This is just terrible.
I rant about this, as I made the mistake to upload my node_modules directories when restoring a backup of my server. Worst idea one could ever have.9 -
CAN WE PLEASE STANDARDIZE THE "REDO" KEYBOARD SHORTCUT?
I don't care if it is Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z. Can we just unify it across all programs?18 -

If a program says that an unknown error occurred. It probably means, that the programmer was too lazy to handle an exception.3

Dad: And what do you code?
Me: Websites, some useful desktop applications and some Android apps.
Dad: Why didn't I notice them?
Me: Because I am not making money with it and can't afford advertising.
Dad: Then make money with it.

I can't take a (C++) project seriously if it is using Visual Studio's build system instead of autotools, CMake or even just a Makefile.8

A 2048Bit SSH key is minimum,
4096Bit is good enough
8182Bit is too much
16364Bit... why do I even bother about this size5 -
I like, that many code hosting sites are shutting down (Google Code, Codeplex). This does not mean those sites are bad.
The ones I like and use are GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket (and most personal ones like Gogs or GitLab CE).
Here is my list of the sites I don't like:
- Sourceforge
- SF
- sf.net
- sourceforge.net8 -

I used to be a Java fanboy.
After seeing the modern things one can do with other languages I am just disappointed, that Java is so old-fashioned.
Some would say "BUT IT HAS LAMBDAS".
Good, that we have lambdas. We don't have optional parameters or objects (like in JS's {} or PHP's stdClass).
JVM may have many advantages, but I think, that Java is slowly dying although it is kept alive by some companies, still using Java in prod.
I think, that Kotlin is, what Java should have been.
I hope, that my wishes will be implemented in Java 10. If not, Java is considered as dead.8 -
What about having more pets.
I would like macots for several languages and OSes like Tux (Linux) or Gopher (Go) in front of my table on my avatar.8 -
Looks like Google forgot how to do good UX / UI design.
1.
Why is the text in the appbar black, but all other icons (including the lock inside the textview) white. It would make sense, if the lock would be black too (as the textview is abit lighter than the appbar).
2.
Maps was way easier to use, before they invented MD Refresh. When you tap on a point on the map you get that info view at the bottom of the screen. Before it was a draggable window, which could be maximized with a swipe. Now you have to tap it, the box goes away and a new window appears, which is just the same as before MD-Refresh.
3.
In "Google Tasks" the activity title is not centered for some reason.12 -
For everyone, who uses any IntelliJ based IDE: Ctrl + Click on a method or variable, you will see all uses of that var or method. If you are clicking a usage of it you will jump to the method reference, even from libraries or for example from the Java runtime library.3

devRant presents:
OS
WARS
Story:
Many users in devRant use Windows but then the "Arch Linux Alliance" short ALA came together to invade devRant. After some weeks, the small group FedB ("Fedora Bureau") also joined the OS Wars. When the release of Ubuntu 16.10 was near the UBO ("UbuntuBestOS Alliance") joined and was near to victory, because dpkg was faster than ever before. But then the macOS Defenders woke up. They finally finished the upgrade to Sierra and tried to fight the other OSes. They wanted to attack with their package manager, but that attack failed. After days of war Windows crashed while updating, which made it unoperational. They called it Blue Screen. After windows gave up, the other groups realized, that they are all built with the same base. They called it Unix. They grouped up (except macOS, because they just want to make money) and discovered the remains of Windows. They found a software named "Ubuntu bash for Windows". Everyone in the group was angry, because UBO teamed up with Windows. They destroyed UBO and continued.
To be continued.
Should it continue? Comments...4 -

I was having fun with GPIO recently. Now I have an RGB LED flashing in my room when my alarm clock starts ringing.
Android App sending HTTP Request when Alarm has been triggered, php starts a bash script (was too lazy to do it in php). Bash script does its job for 10 seconds. -

TL;DR: There was a Steam bug and I fixed it locally.
Some months ago, Steam had the problem, that if you tried to add anything from the Steam Workshop to a collection, you would get an error like "Process failed: 2", while it was loading the collection list.
I realized, that it would work, but there was a bug in the JS (Watched the network tab in chrome while trying to add to collection). I searched after "Process failed" in each js file and after 30 seconds I found the buggy if. It said something like
if (json.success != 2) {
//do error
} else {
//show list
}
After I changed that if condition to
if (false)...
it worked perfectly, although it would make problems if there would be a server side error.2 -
I can recommend a very good series, which is about an AI:

It catched me so I think I won't be the only one.8 -
