Overheard a phone call of a collegue:
Person on phone (P): okay so how do I upload the code?
Colleague (C): well you could use filezilla for example
P: oh... okay... yeah.... So how does that work?
C: you said earlier that you were going to hire a more technical person, a developer, to develop this wordpress side, maybe he/she could help you out with this?
P: I am that developer.
C: 😶😐10 -
Friend: Hey, I managed to build my own UI.
Me: That's great, which programming language did you use?
Friend: Filezilla.
Me: No, I mean the language. The language you code in to build your UI ?
Friend: Notepad ++

To people who don't know how to use Linux: Just because I use nano instead of gedit or any other GUI text editor does not mean I'm showing off. Why can't you understand that ssh-ing into a server and opening a file in the terminal itself to edit three lines of configuration is much easier than opening FileZilla, connecting, downloading the file, making the changes and uploading it again. It's fine if you want to do it that way. But please don't judge me for doing it my way.
To people who are good with Linux: Can you please stop suggesting me to use vim instead, EVERY FUCKING TIME? I know it's more powerful, but I haven't been using Linux enough to have surpassed it's learning curve. Plus I google up how to use it and do use it when I have the need. Please let me be?
To people who tell me to use Windows for everything: Go suck a fat dick, you uncultured morons.10 -
Today FileZilla saved my life by storing all site connection passwords in base64
Without it we'd have lost access to an old production server 👌6 -
me: "so what version control system + tool you're using for this website?"
co-worker: "what is version control?"
me: "uh... like tfs, you manage changes, merge etc!???"
co-worker: "ah, i'm using filezilla."3 -
"Colleague" (he's there for day-time spending, he doesn't actually have a job) of mine keeps telling me I should F off with pushing for Docker, Git and CakePHP because they add an additional amount of learning for interns that they might not need to learn for school.
He wants us to keep working with the following:
- Google Drive for codebase sharing
- FileZilla (or atleast an FTP) for deployment
- "from scatch" PHP code where business logic and front-end code are all slapped into one big file and where functions are also slapped into one big file. also, opening and closing the database connection for each query made
Guy basically wants us to deliver a crappy products that we might not be able to maintain and are prone to a wide-variety of issues.
Yes, let's limit our company to *only* the things that interns need to learn for school, what could *possibly* go wrong :^)11 -
This happened like 6-7 years ago when I used to do some logo and Web theme designs as a side job. There was this motel owner client who wanted me to make a website for him . he didn't give me much to go on except some themes he liked and some pictures of the motel. I finished the website on time but of course he didn't like it, he told me that he wanted it to be bluer(?). So I played with the colors a bit and showed it to him a couple days later, but now he didn't like the font that I used he wanted a font that stand out, like those Gotik ones; I politely told him it would not look professional when he refused I told him it would look like a teenage Lamer at Tumblr. After that he settled down for a less idiotic font. I finished the final cuts the next day and went to the motel to setup the website and show him how to use it. After a good hour of teaching him in the ways of the Internet I told him I needed my payment now. But the guy only wanted to pay half of what we agreed upon because I delivered it late and also didn't do his requests. I reminded him, that this is my job I worked hard for this. That he owed me what he promised. His counter argument was That all I do is press some buttons on a keyboard and that I don't know what working hard really means. That was the last drop. You see I usually have somewhat good pr skills but I can only tolerate limited amount of bulls*** at a time. So I deleted the www folder from filezilla and told him to go F*** himself and left. Never been a freelancer ever since2

Rant: THAT FUCKING CREATIVE AGENCY, THAT USES A FUCKING HOSTING PROVIDER, THAT DOESN'T OFFER SSH! GUESS WHO'S CURRENTLY UPLOADING 4000 FILES? BEST OF ALL EVERY 200-ISCH FILES THE CONNECTION GET'S REFUSED, TELLING, THERE ARE TO MANY REQUESTS (FileZilla is set to max 2 simultanious uploads, still the same)
FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKING FUCK OF A CRAPPY DEPLOYMENT PROCESS.6 -
Made a Website.
What this friendly old Lady wanted: a update to her poem/song website that looked horrible.
What she got: A goddamn masterpiece considering there is NO backend and I got nearly no ressources to work with.
It took forever to put that stuff together since I thought I dont need any frameworks at all. I didnt know PHP at all back then, so I just went all out with everything that pure HTML and CSS could give me.
I even went outside to make nice photos to put into the Background.
....so, he said no PHP or anything? YES! If you wanna add content you change the HTML and upload stuff via Filezilla. I dont really want to see it ever again. But not because it looks bad.
I know, its not really coding since its HTML but I Count this!rant html counts here wk182 please dont hate me not even a script kiddy wannabe webdesigner mistakes were made1 -
— Filezilla *open prod ftp*
— right click a file *edit*
— edit the file, save,
— filezilla *save new file*1 -
It should be FUCKING ILLEGAL to show intrusive popups on the web AND on the desktop. The fucking moron 'developers' who do this type of crap should be fined in the $M range and then banned from using a fucking computer ever again.
It's one fucking thing when a crappy program shows an intrusive update popup when you open it (see notepad++, FileZilla and more), but when I am not even using your fucking malware, but you still shove an update popup in my face while I'm working is just on the next fucking level.
There should be a law that makes this kind of retarded bullshit illegal....22 -
My college lecturer when someone was having problems with FileZilla:
- Let's go back to Dreamweaver.
I never thought I'd here these words... on the other hand he's using Internet Explorer :(1 -
~# mkdir certs
~# openssl req -newkey.......
*checked certs dir*
hmm.. empty?
*generated certs again*
Certs dir still empty. Reverted to Google for answers. None found. I was using FileZilla to check the Certs directory.
15 minutes and a million tries late, I realized that I forgot to CD into the Certs directory...............2 -
While everyone hates on Windows for getting updates and having to restart it.... I hate on FileZilla for receiving way too many updates and also having to restart it... more than Windows...7

I already wrote this story in the comments to some other rant, still it's pretty funny.
So, i was modding my wii u by messing with system files, the only way to do this is to run an homebrew that hosts an ftp server so you can connect with your pc, the thing is, this server was not protected and allowed anonymous login, not an issue if you have a firewall.
BUT i had this console in the DMZ on the router for online play.
~You can see where this is going~
While doing stuff from my pc i started seeing a lot of entries on the console's log and i didn't understand why, i thought filezilla was doing some shit so i closed it but the log was still going, then i realized and quickly shut the server down.
Then i disabled the DMZ and went back to check what happened (unfortunately the log was only shown on screen and not saved, by closing the server i lost it) so looks like the attacker uploaded a lot of files with random names in pretty much every folder.
Due to the random names, I don't know which are system files and which attacker's files so i just kept them there. And today they should still be there.
--Random thinking--
What if the attacker also stole some files, he was hoping to get photos or valuable documents, but just got the console's system files and he thought something along the lines of "wtf is even this".
Also, how likely is that an ip scanner script gets to my ip in the 5 minutes i run the server, and (on the attacker side) how likely is to hack a server just to find out that's a wii u (the least successful console in the last generation)...
Moral of the story: double check your firewall if you are going to run an unprotected server.
That's it, stay safe :P2 -
Spent like 5 hours today installing, configuring, and playing with phpstorm. first time I've used a real ide type program and wow, I replaced 5 programs with this I would use at the same time.
filezilla (ftp), rapidphp (code), mysql workbench, cmd prompt (node, gulp, sass), and source tree (git)6 -
!rant
Made the switch to debian. First linux experience. Have already setup my IDE's and programs i need for work (Atom, IntelliJ, putty, filezilla, etc) . Loving it so far!11 -
I hate the current state of internet based service providers. They are collecting so much data, it's scary and borderline stalking.
A simple search on Netflix changes ads shown by Google. I watch a lot of Japanese/Korean drama and now my ads are in Japanese. What the actual fuck.
I run windows 10 on my main rig because of steam and windows only games. One day I was searching for filezilla in windows search. Since it is now handled by the same UI as cortana, it searched it on the web too. So now I have ads related to ftp hosting in Japanese.
Sometimes I feel like just formatting my system and install debian on it. But those games man. May be I can live without them.
Can we bring back the internet from 2008. It was so much better back then.12 -
Okay. So finally I moved into a new pc. Because I never worked in a company, I have absolutely no idea what is the proper standard workflow of developing a website. My work flow was the same in past 12 years, how I have learned in the school: Used xampp, developed everything, used git only locally, when stuff was ready I fired up Filezilla and uploaded everything, and used ssh to make the final adjustments. When I have made some changes, I just uploaded the files I have touched, in the same way, optimized if it was necessary, done. I wonder if someone can clarify me how a proper workflow looks like for php/laravel, mysql, nothing fancy. Is using xampp still okay? Or what is the industry standard procedure?2

Doing a physical scan of PC's in my network for anything that shouldn't be there. Find a Filezilla open for a "Roblox Generator"
Spent rest of day making a bot in Python to spam the registration with fake accounts.
Not on my network you don't!
Anybody else got stories like this? -
Question for web devs. I have to manage a simple php website and I am tired of filezilla+notepad++ combo. I need something more modern. Tried visual studio code+simple ftp integration but it doesn't seem to download some of the folders. Can you advice any other alternative?13

Genuine problem, not a rant
Started a new frontend developer/designer/graphic designer job recently. I feel technically capable, no problem there. Just noticing a pattern of repeatedly missing deadlines.
Its a very busy office, with various people all coming to me with things they need me to do. Never worked in an environment so busy before.
Doesn't help that they force me to manage my tasks by spreadsheets, communication by email, deployment by filezilla and no version control, but not convinced I'd still meet deadlines if I had a better setup.3 -
Today's task. Boot up Dreamweaver; download the entire website via ftp ONLY through Dreamweaver because idfk why it won't work with Filezilla... Get 50 virus alerts as I'm downloading the site from php files... Delete them all. I am God for a day in the work place.2

So I’ve spent the last 20 minutes waiting for an Amazon S3 and Cloudfront Pro and another Amazon Web Services WordPress plugin to delete from a server via FileZilla. How’s your day going so far?6
-
After hosting a website using digitalocean for $5 monthly plan, can I update its content using FileZilla (like it's index.html page)? Is it possible?6
-
After moving from Windows with WinSCP to Mac with FileZilla.. I'm looking forward to the day when I don't have to remember to click a button to confirm the upload after editing a file!
The amount of times I've been changing code and it having no effect, thinking I'm loosing it.. but just forgot to switch back to FileZilla and click the button..9 -
We should bring back the death sentence by hanging for those fucking retards who show their software update notifications as fucking popups after I start the program. No, notepad++, I don't give a fuck about your update. Fuck you FileZilla, I'm on a hurry, stop shoving your almost full screen update window in my face. Oh and the visual studio installer. Don't even get me started on the visual studio installer.
Would it be too difficult to show the update notification on the bottom of the window on the status bar? Maybe with a higher contrast color so it's more noticeable?9 -
What does everyone use to sync/upload/download files to servers? (For files not relevant/necessary to git)
I've used sftp drive, ssh, filezilla but the best solution for me so far has been using torrent syncing (I.e SyncThing). Any other good contenders/suggestions?8 -
I don't use FTP enough to do research on a better client.
I use FileZilla cus that's what we were introduced to in school.
I feel like I'm missing out on a better client though. What's everyone's personal favorite, for those who use FTP clients regularly?7 -
Had to fix a small program that wrote a report to a file and was supposed to uploaded to FTP but kept sending error notices. For a week I had the FTP part commented out and just manually used filezilla every morning till I realized the config had an old password... Not a proud moment1
-
why the fuck does it take 5-7 minutes for fucking filezilla to make a successful connection after I turn on my pc ''Initializing TLS..."? WTF, this makes me angry and paranoid at the same time because it doesn't happen on other PC's I use.4
