Ok folks so u complained and I listened. Today instead of prepping for technical interviews... And bc the weather is nice... I am doing Spring cleaning!

I'm usually very careful with *everything* except today, I spilled half my water bottle on my personal laptop which I was using for interview prepping and while I had no plans to buy a new computer for the time being (not by choice lol). Here's a photo of my 5 year old boy.

Got hit up by a FANG recruiter on LinkedIn. Almost went for it, but then I remembered I'd have to spend 3 months prepping for it, since it's been 5 years since I've manually reversed a linked list, back when we did that for funsies in college...

Plus how do you tell your manager you're quitting to "prep" for an interview...and moreover, how do you go back and sheepishly tell them you didn't make it...

Like, that one simple LinkedIn message caused me to re-evaluate my life and seriously consider leaving my comfy job to do something insane like try to work at <insert FANG company here>. And I wasn't going to quit until I had made it.

I landed myself an interview with a really great company for a DevOps intern position tomorrow.

Im really hopeful about this. The company truly seems like a great place to work with incredible opportunity to grow, and I desperately want to pursue a career in DevOps, but Im worried that Im underqualified. I lack true professional experience, and have really had no adequate time working with CI/CD tools, but I am very interested, excited and willing to work hard to become proficient.
Ive been prepping myself as much as I can in this last week (trying to gain familiarity with tools like jenkins, artifactory, chef etc), and so I ask to you, my fellow ranters (particularly DevOps), are there any final tips or bits of advice that I can take to really impress my interviewers and better my chances of getting this position?

TLDR; I'm glad to be back in the presence of all you awesome people. 2019 was a dream and I have a lot of you to thank for that.

If you've noticed, I've been away for a while. I took a sabbatical from a lot of my socials (including github - or at least public github :( this summer. Let me explain:

In late April/early May, I applied and got an internship at RBC (a big bank company in Canada) found out I'm getting flown out to San Fran for a talk I gave at a summit, and got accepted to this 2 week physics [Quantum Cryptography] camp @ UWaterloo. So I had quiet the summer. In order to throw myself into work and friends and all that, I decided that I was going to take a break. Although I took a break from Github I was still active on Github Enterprise for my job but outside of that I didn't do much.

Don't worry though, now that it's fall/winter season, I'll be in my room for way too long so it's back to the usual grind. Currently, I'm in the process of planning a hackathon, prepping for picoCTF 2019, filling out University applications, all while dealing with school :) I've got a lot of projects/things coming up so ya'll will hear more from me :D

After a week of getting new projects thrown at me, I finally get a block of time to start one of the larger, more complicated one.

30 minutes into planning it out, prepping the workspace and diverting 90% focus to said project, someone busts in with a more complicated top priority project that needs done by end of day.

So v4 came out just before I started prepping for v3 through my college and I was a little pissed at first but then I thought to myself, well shit, at least I passed 😂 NEXT 🦆

Do you guys do any sort of meal planning / prepping (based on caloric intake / macro nutrients)? If so how much time is usually spent on the plan itself, and how long in the kitchen? Also how did you come up with said plan?

High school, prepping to go to class, I take a book that I needed for class, while picking it up from the book shelf the latin vocabulary fell and landed on my hard drive which was on top of my MacBook, two birds with one stone :(
I now have three different external hard drives and planning to get an off-site solution as well.

Large table which needs to be filled with data - data needs to be prepared because there can be gaps in the data (data represents orders of supplier per day).

So layout is like this:

Which already is fun. Not. Fetching data with several filters, prepping
data and assuring ordered output without gaps was painful...

The number of suppliers can be anything between 1 or >300 - limited is only the date range. there is an click event on every mofo column for enlarging the whole column and loading additional data via ajax.

Now in all this cringy mess.... I had to make it scrollable.

Coding has pretty much been the center of my life?

Although I was persuaded to take a dumb expensive, useless detour into Finance... and probably cost me a nice job at a big tech company... at least until maybe I get around to really really trying really hard to possibly get an interview after reading through a few Algo books and prepping for technical interviews and doing foobar enough to request being recruited...

Anyway I still like coding for my own use a lot (check my github.io page), getting paid for it is more of a ++ though I would prefer to be solving more interesting and useful problems at work....

Oh yes and it makes me an Android/tech power user, always thinking about how to use tech to solve my problems, get what I want...

and now if you'd please, dfox when can I have my unicorn? 😀

!Rant

I have my first interview on Wednesday for an insanely good opportunity.

It's a junior role through and through, 10 weeks training and bringing up to speed.

They said don't prepare anything for the interview, but I have been panicking.

It's all for JS (React, Node).

What should I be thinking about? What should I be prepping?

so anyone can share their experience on living away from home in a shared flat and working remotely?

i will be in a similar situation in upcoming months . my office will be 2 day wfo nd 4 day wfh.

for wfo, i think i will be coming home back at 7pm , prepping dinner doing some additional stuff (house chores, refreshing, maybe gym, relaxing, tv etc) and be sleep at 11 pm. i still need to figure out a morning routine tho.

but problem will be in wfh days and Holidays. how do you guys pass that time?

Dev goals: building and deploying four apps (kotlin, flutter, unity) ; getting better at tdd; deeper understanding of core compsci principals ; mentorship; teaching; reading through at least one software practices book a month ; attending at least one local tech event monthly ;and prepping for finally getting out and speaking at conferences in 2021.

What should I expect out of a technical interview for a software engineering internship, one likely focused in front end web application development? I am prepping for this interview but wouldn't mind some seasoned feedback!
