You guys ever spent a longer period of time on finding a bug and once you found it, first go grab a coffee/snack to allow that bug some final moments?
Like some sick kind of power play along the lines of “I will fix you at a time and location of my choosing”6 -
Today we presented our project in Embedded Systems. We made our so called "Blinkdiagnosegerät" (blink diagnosis device) which is used to get error codes from older verhicles which use the check enginge light to output the error. (for reference: http://up.picr.de/7461761jwd.jpg ) This was common for vehicles without OBD.
We made our own PCB, made a small database for 2 vehicles and used a Suzuki Samurai instrument cluster for the presentation (hooked up to an Arduino UNO and a relay for emulating some Error Codes)
Got an 1.0 (A) for the project. Feel proud for the first project done in C++ and making our own PCB. So no rant, just a good day after all the stress in the last weeks doing all assignements and presentations.
Next week we hopefully finish our inverse pendulum in Simulink and then the exams are close. :D19 -
Sometimes I want to fuck customers with 30 samurai methods ! A few minutes ago, some one called me and asked me to make a website like Google for him with 500$ 😑14

Sometimes I think I am (a developer) is similar to a samurai or a yakuza. Once we get into this business, we just cannot get out of it. :?
// I am starting to get drunk. It is lucky for you guys that we have 2 hours interval. I don't expect my next post to be any good.4 -
Simulating a couple million elastic search searches and aggregations in 2h instead of 3 months ... :)3

Every time I read some code of the rust standard libraries or code of other popular rust crates, I feel ashamed of the code I produce ... their level of documentation is just outstanding, mine is ... hardly existing?
Guess a rant about myself :D -
Both my laptops are overheating, Codeblocks keeps crashing, and I'm too emotional over the latest Samurai Jack.
-
While everyone is talking to ducks around here, I'm more of a Samurai person.
Meet Hakuna, the code samurai who slices and dices the latest JS frameworks, and slashes server architecture with a swift, but nifty flick of his plastic sword.
Two companion samurais arriving soon.7 -
That feeling when - one year after quitting Twitter - it’s the weekend and you finally don’t feel the pressure of having to have a side project, cool library, you name it anymore. I just enjoy my weekends and if I want to, I fucking watch Netflix 48 hours straight.
I genuinely feel that I am good enough at development that it won’t make a difference and my weekends are mine to spend. I have zero cool stuff on my GitHub and have never had any disadvantage because of that in the past 11 years of my career, so why even worry?
I officially achieved anti-imposter-Syndrome 😎3 -
many of you have probably been skeptical this entire time of what i am capable of with a keyboard and a monitor
i guarantee what you are about to see is far beyond 99% of what can be found in SiLiCoN vALLeY salad bar tech bros, and probably what 99% of you can write
take some time to understand this code, like REALLY understand it...
if you can't, that's fine. come back in 5 years.
here it is:
https://typescriptlang.org/play/...
this is what 10+ years of busting your ass (and i mean really busting, its fucking 7 PM on a saturday for me) can look like
another reason you can understand it's infuriating listing to rubes ramble "we can't hire you because you dont have <<arbitrary number of years>> with <<arbitrary language>>" absolute clowns - or listening to managers who are "smart" yeah ok buddy
i am ChatGPT-10+. bow down to my superintelligence. we don't need LLMs because I am 5+ iterations ahead
also if you don't understand the significance of this code, it's on you
any clown i've ever seen, whether it be on twitter, facebook, insta, here on dev rant, hackernews, or whereever, just know, i know you're full of shit, and i've worked harder. that is all.
anyway, i'm finally done for the day, cheers 🥃16 -
Freshly installed xubuntu... now, do I go and default to PHPStorm or do I give vim yet another try?4

Anybody transitioned from PHP into the Java enterprise world? What was your experience? Did you regret it?7

Creating a ticket plus confluence page for every open source library I want to use to get approval to use it. Of course only to allow usage of the minor version, so in js Land the request is outdated after 2 days, before someone had to chance to approve it.1

Has anyone experience in implementing a language server? I am currently working on a php language server and can’t wrap my head around how to efficiently find the correct scope/token from a cursor position ... like I would need to jump right into the middle of the AST somehow.
On another note I already fought the borough checker for 3 hours straight so might just go and read how the rust language server was implemented.
But I would still like to pull some experience from you if you have been through this already2 -
Fuck this shit... how hard can it be to build a fucking Thread safe tree with links to parent??? This is madness. Deadlock hell... aaaaaaaargh
I am close to switching languages for this project3
