Rust devs on social media are the vegans of the programming world.
Yeah, we get it, you like your hot new programming language. I'm not bashing the language, I've never used it so I'd have no right to say anything about it.
But holy hell, you guys don't have to show up in every discussion about programming languages that aren't Rust to evangelicize how great Rust is. Like damn, there could be a thread on Twitter about Python and you'd be like "yeah Python's great but have you ever heard of our lord and savior, Jesus cRUST?"
Just shut up lol.12 -
To those wondering what it's like to onboard to CORP projects:
> create an access request for role APP1_ADMIN_RW
> wait for 2 weeks
> chase for approvals
> chase for implementation
> be ignored for another 1 week
> 3 weeks later receive an email: "your request has been implemented. Now you have access to role APP1_USER_RO"3 -
remote work is so much better for me.. i think something is wrong with me because little things my co-workers do like clearing their throats, them slamming their keyboards and sometimes the way they laugh or even the way they speak... pisses me off so bad. OMG!!! even putting on headphones does not help. I wish i could ignore all that.

How the hell are you going to have a WebDev degree and not know what SSL is in 2022.
I also shouldn't be the one to notice your CPanel has a ton of unnecessary extra files and folders, and when you go to a subdomain corresponding to some random folders we find a "hacked by some dude" message. : |
I get your mom paid for the domain and hosting for you but you should really fucking know that information yourself.
And I don't care if your mom says 'everything is fine' on her side. You were hacked you need that information so you can tell when things are added that shouldn't be and in this case notify the host site in case the issue is on them while also knowing how to reset everything properly site specifically
Fuck. I should start charging my friends for being stupid and taking my time with things they should know how to do.
My degree is an associates of 'General Programming'. They have a degree in specifically 'Web Development'
90% of my web development knowledge is self taught. If her program didn't cover fucking ssl she needs her money back8 -
Blizzard clowns have done it again… they changed male/female to body type selection. Voices are still male/female, characters are still referred as he/she. Fuck these pandering piece of shits.
I hate non-tech people hijacking tech field inch by inch.57 -
Any company that ENFORCES you to have a college degree so you can get hired - is a failed company in my eyes and not worth any of my time.
I would not accept to contribute a thing to that company regardless of the salary i would be paid.
Same goes for all and everyone else: if an open source project were to require a contributor to have a college degree so he can contirbute, is a failed project.
ANYONE and ANYTHING who requires a college degree - has already failed.14 -
Boss: Our customer's data is not syncing with XYZ service anynmore!
Me: Ok let me check. Did the tokens not refresh? Hmm the tokens are refreshing fine but the API still says that we do not have permissions. The scopes are fine too. I'll use our test account... its... cancelled? Hey boss, why is our XYZ account cancelled?
Boss: Oh, "I haven’t paid since I didn’t think we needed it" (ad verbatim)

One crucial lesson I learned while diving into programming:
Use various learning resources. Everyone explains things a little different.
You can understand stuff much easier. -
🦫Me a kid: I hope some day I will earn enough $ to by a cool-ass PC and play games on highest graphics presets
🤡Me an adult: I sure did earn enough $ to afford a cool-ass PC though it is a shame that I cannot find time & energy to play games9 -
Okay so I've written a string reverser in my own esoteric programming language.

okay just found the package "sl" on linux.
I mistyped ls and my shell told me well you can have this command with the package "sl".
Looked what the package does and well now i have it installed and everytime i mistype ls from now on a SL (Steam Locomotive) runs across my terminal.3 -
So, I'm a veteran. I served in the Army as an information system operator/analyst. Glorified help desk, set up some equipment in the field, a few other small things. But I can make fun of vets, other branches, and those serving. I've paid my dues, and they're OK with it. Hell, they all do it too. But you have to be a vet or currently serving.
I feel like that with tech too. My buddies and I call each other geeks/nerds all the time. I get annoyed (read as pissed off) when someone from the outside does it.
I got an email from a recruiter that said something along the lines of "..basically a bunch of really smart nerds building software..." What the actual fuck? Go eat an entire bag of dicks, and choke on every single one.12 -
Fuck, every time I read something about NFTs I lose another bit of faith in humanity I didn't even know I had.
I mean, I guess someone could make a bunch of cartoon characters (lets say, some sort of "pookey-man") using compatible styles and colour palettes. And I guess you could buy some of those if there is a product that makes trademark recognition a plausible dream (let's say, a videogame and/or anime).
But if the chance of success is akin to the chance of becoming a billionaire solemly from lottery wins, shouldn't the assets be priced accordingly?
Like a couple bucks a pop, at most?
Dropping a cool 30000 quid on a single lotto ticket sounds like the dumbest thing ever.
And yet at least a couple hundred hollow heads did it.
Fuck everything.3 -
Recipe: "baked developer"
you will need:
- 1 day = 1 story point
- 10SP per sprint
- every team member must deliver all the SPs.
Now for every sprint slap on 20+ hours of mandatory meetings, mix with 2-5 days of ad-hoc tasks, which must be addressed, because they are blocking the release/other teams/prod, and make sure all the devs try not to spill no matter what, and you get a perfectly burned out team.
Brittle/crispy on the outside, mashed/soft on the inside
enjoy!26 -
Boss activates encryption on dashboard
we installed the software
2 machines get locked out coz drive got encrypted with bitlocker
No one received the 48 bit key from bitlocker
I loose all my work coz the only way to use my laptop was to format the drive
Me as the technical guy and knowing how encryption works i just formatted the drive
Boss blames me for the cluster fuck8 -
I applied to Amazon recently not really thinking about it I was just bored. Dropped my CV and I was asked to fill in why would I want to work in that position. I un-ironically put “It sounds like a lot of fun”, got rejected instantly then got an unrelated message from an Amazon recruiter from another division inviting me to apply, rejected it because it didn’t sound as fun.
I’m an honest bloke I just want to have fun.11 -
I'm trying to code here and can't do find/replace in SQL Server mgmt studio because fucking "antimalware" malware uses most of my CPU. I'm sure Microsoft is mining crypto3

Tried to impress the boss with my work ethic by staying late to install a new VoIP system. Wasn’t even part of my job description. A few days later I had a flat tire on the way to work. It took me a couple hours to get that taken care of. When I got to work, the boss told me I had to work 2 extra hours that week to make it up. I reminded him that I had worked overtime recently to install his new phone system. He said, “Doesn’t matter. You still need to make up the hours.”
From that moment on I never worked one second more for him than I had to. I quit less than a year into the job.13
