I fucking hate frontend development
>updates three dependencies for security reasons
>entire thing falls apart
>spends whole week to fix it
>its literally just two lines to fix it but those lazy mfs had to ask a QA to rewrite it

Woke up late. Hurriedly got ready for work. Booked an Uber. Opened slack to say I'll be late. Finds out everyone is WFH.
Now I am going to office alone in a 50 minute commute like an idiot.4 -
Of course we can accomplish in a week what couldn't be done in 6 months just because you say it's a hard deadline.2

Imagining all of the disapproving faces of your relatives while you lie in the storm drain, hearing the wails of the other fallen who neglected to account for the crappy economy, wishing you had just typed in those two words that could have saved you from a life of ineptitude caused by procrastination.
"Hello World."
//Basically imagine the worst possible outcome. Ask your parents for helpful suggestions -
Told a teacher I finished a week worth of exercises, and asked for the next one
"This code is not yours. It's too clean, redo everything"
... what, is it wk64 already ?3 -
Ideal dev job would be to work on pretty/girly fashion or cosmetics websites, have drama free and knowledgeable co-workers, decent salary, great organization, external training opportunities, cute modern office, dogs, cats and a cafe on site, a dope recharge room & no talking to clients ever.4

My job is pretty close to ideal.
-manager is technical/proficient
-hardly any meetings
-I'm trusted to design solutions to problems
-I'm trusted to implement those solutions
-Discretionary time off
-Decent pay
-We make cool technology7 -
So i was playing around with terminal apps in node.js a few weeks ago and made a CLI version of devrant. Images get converted to ascii just for fun. This is about was far as it goes for me though - anyone want to take it over? (The code is shit - this was a midnight proof of concept). Currently there's pretty much just the rant listings, the login works too but I think @dfox would need to approve it's use.
Next script I'm writing is going to be a terminal rant posting tool so I can rant from my server 😉
$ rant -m "fml" -f ~/screenshot.jpg -t "lol"20 -
I'm really excited to have a job where I'm not the lone developer. Kinda nervous, too. Now other people will see the crap I write. :P1

Starting a tiny and purely personal coding project, mostly for practicing a newly learnt language...
...Spend 5 hours brainstorming to find a good name for my "product". -
Me (refactoring bosses code):
Is this worth it?
let me work it...
I'll put this thing down, flip it, and reverse it
Boss:
did you just Missy Eliot my code?
Me:

So the interns tried to 3d print a rubberduck and it got stuck mid way.
Guess i have a coding duck now
I call her "Detached HEAD state"18 -
The "language" I hated the most was XSLT 1.0. Some times you ended up with a horrible set of template matches or choose clauses to achieve simple decision trees.2

UI control packs. They look amazing in the demos, and are so easy to add...
And then they start breaking for no reason. Documentation is outdated. Examples never cover real world uses. There are a million versions, and the one you use is suddenly no longer available for download.
In the end you realize you could either have lived without that one feature you wanted it for, or rolled your own with much less work. -
Trying to create a custom woocommerce store theme, pretty sure I've become bald from all the hair pulling I've had to do over their shitty CSS class names. For example .woocomerce_Store--Front5

So a few weeks ago I wiped my MacBook Pro to regain some space and speed, it wasn't really that slow I just had the disk partitioned into two installments of MacOS. When I erased the disk I thought the secure thing to do would be to set the format to journaled, encrypted rather than just journaled. Everything was working fine, there seemed to be this weird step of login when I restarted but whatever, except iCloud Drive. On my iMac it works fine but for whatever reason my MacBook Pro doesn't want to download custom folders (ones that aren't created by an app and don't have an app icon on folder icon) from my account despite them being clearly available in iCloud.com. So after this much time of messing with it I'm wiping my MacBook Pro again and formatting it as journaled (not encrypted). Wish me luck...undefined this must just be a bug or a security feature... probs a bug tho i still like apple products this stuff usually works for me3

A couple of years ago, I was working in a computer shop as a "technician", I was 15, first job I ever had.
One day an elderly lady came into the shop, probably 50'ish, she and her whole family "suffered" from electromagnetic radiation, and the mother had the worst suffering. She complained about her TV box that just had died.
I accept the tuner and see it's wrapped with 10 layers of aluminium foil, with a tiny hole for the IR receiver.
The whole box smells like burnt electronics, and the foil gets darker for each layer I unwrap. I try explain to her that the box gets warm and overheated by wrapping it like this, and she's lucky that it didn't catch fire.
I further explain to her that she will not get a new box, because the warranty does not cover _this_. The mother tells me she has to wrap it like this, because she gets headaches when she's watching the news.
She then proceeds to go into a rage mode and gets her whole family into the shop, where all of them starts yelling at me, the younger kids start throwing stuff down from the shelves and touching the TVs with sticky fingers (literally, sticky, like yuck!).
Unsure what to do, boss is in a meeting, and my colleague is busy in the back.
So I calmly tell them that in this building there's 4 wireless networks, 3 wireless phones, high voltage cables run in the wall behind me, there's factory tracks 20 meters behind the building, next door business is an electrician, you're standing in front of wall with 30-40 TVs, 5 HDMI splitters, 3 TV boxes and a Blu-ray player. And they've all been standing in front of them for the last 10 minutes.
They all suddenly feel really sick and run out of the store, never to be seen again. From that day, I decided I'll never work in a shop again, and pursued my dreams to become a developer.
TL;DR: Family is "sensitive" to electromagnetic radiation, almost put burnt down their house because of stupidity, yelled at me. I decided to pursue my dream as a developer.16
