Good news: Today my app reached 1 million daily users. 😃😃😃💰
Bad news: It started out as a side project and my shitty code is not scaling well at all. 🙃19 -
Gavin: "Christina, so how bad is this? Be honest. Is this windows Vista bad? It is not iPhone 4 bad, is it? Fuck, don't tell me this is Zune bad."
Christina: "Sorry Gavin. It is Apple Maps bad."12 -
Object oriented thinking.
A boy tries to look at girl in a class.
Girl : It's bad manners.
Boy : No it's not. "MEMBERS OF THE SAME CLASS CAN ACCESS PRIVATE DATA".9 -

My boss: "Do you ever like, not be on the computer?"
Me: " it's my job"
Boss: "oh shit you right. My bad"2 -
About two years ago I get roped into a something when someone was requesting an $8000 laptop to run an "program" that they wrote in Excel to pull data from our mainframe.
In reality they are using our normal application that interacts with the mainframe and screen scrapping it to populate several Excel spreadsheets.
So this guy kept saying that he needed the expensive laptop because he needed the extra RAM and processing power for his application. At the time we only supported 32 bit Windows 7 so even though I told him ten times that the OS wouldn't recognize more than 3.5 GB of RAM he kept saying that increasing the RAM would fix his problem. I also explained that even if we installed the 64 bit OS we didn't have approval for the 64 bit applications.
So we looked at the code and we found that rather than reusing the same workbook he was opening a new instance of a workbook during each iteration of his loop and then not closing or disposing of them. So he was running out of memory due to never disposing of anything.
Even better than all of that, he wanted a faster processor to speed up the processing, but he had about 5 seconds of thread sleeps in each loop so that the place he was screen scrapping from would have time to load. So it wouldn't matter how fast the processor was, in the end there were sleeps and waits in there hard coded to slow down the app. And the guy didn't understand that a faster processor wouldn't have made a difference.
The worst thing is a "dev" that thinks they know what they are doing but they don't have a clue.7 -
Bad news: Company shutting down, gave one day notice and was told not to come in for work the next day. Was compensated, of course. But still, it sucks.
Good news: I'm a developer.9 -
That moment when something bad happens and ctrl+Z pops in to your head. Then realise ur not using a computer.1
-
The bad thing today: I killed my laptop with coffee.
The good thing today: it was my company laptop, not my private one.17 -
After 5 years of neglect I have finaly found some time to work on an old project of mine.
Not a bad view to work from either9 -
Not sure if it was the missing spaces in the title, the text lingo and bad grammar in the description, or the clickbait-style graphic but I AM SOLD.5

Ten Immutable Laws Of Security
Law #1: If a bad guy can persuade you to run his program on your computer, it's not solely your computer anymore.
Law #2: If a bad guy can alter the operating system on your computer, it's not your computer anymore.
Law #3: If a bad guy has unrestricted physical access to your computer, it's not your computer anymore.
Law #4: If you allow a bad guy to run active content in your website, it's not your website any more.
Law #5: Weak passwords trump strong security.
Law #6: A computer is only as secure as the administrator is trustworthy.
Law #7: Encrypted data is only as secure as its decryption key.
Law #8: An out-of-date antimalware scanner is only marginally better than no scanner at all.
Law #9: Absolute anonymity isn't practically achievable, online or offline.
Law #10: Technology is not a panacea.3 -
Did not expect this from Google. Seems like you're hiring real linguistic pros.
Now this is not the only thing I didn't like, they're very disorganized & the interviewer got sick & two of three interviewers were so cocky.. bad bad vibes
On the other side, a small local company is giving warm & good vibes, seems more accommodating even with lower pay.. their website sucks & the tech director was honest & smiling.
So yeah, Fuck You Google

Well, my dev sin is...
Basically every project of mine is not commented, is not unit tested and doesn't have any kind of documentation.
But I try to remove my bad habit!1 -
ALRIGHT sorry SwiftKey I love you but not if you do this to me... I need a new keyboard any recommendations? (android)

Pass by reference, do not wrap needlessly
// Bad
takesCallback(function (data) {

I see this all the time, especially with jr devs.8 -
Never really used a UI framework for web development, always coded each component myself. Im using one now and I have to say it's not that bad!10

Is it bad ive got a mental count down to when I'll reach 6969 ++?

I like PHP.
It's not as bad as its reputation. Just because it's easy to learn, does not mean it's bad. In fact, with a framework like Laravel or Zend it's not so simple and keeps the whole spaghetti code developers away, which led to the bad reputation.9 -
Am I the fucking only one here that lives from paycheck to paycheck in the middle of Europe even tho I earn not bad....

Hey, progress.
Gotta hand it to whoever at Microsoft implemented this, was smooth af.4 -
Dear people who leave bad reviews...
Do not use a review as a bug report, saying something crashes on your device and telling the developer to "fix this" isn't a review.
It is barely a bug report but a review is on quality, not individual issues .-.3 -
JavaScript is fun when your not fucking bad at programming you stupid jquery-loving, abstractionless, monoparadigm, encapsulationphobia fucks13

AAARGH ELECTRON IS SO FUCKING...decently pleasant to use?
So I've been working on a FPGA based synthesizer on a Xilinx Arty A7 board (that little Artix 35T chip is surprisingly capable), and since I hate typing commands into a serial stream for anything even decently complex just like any sane person should, I needed something to build a UI for controlling it and other synth projects while I make the Eurorack compatible enclosure and knobs and stuff. I chose Electron because they said it was simple and easy to make cool looking stuff, fast.
And they were right. In like two hours, with Electron and p5.js, starting from zero since I don't know jack about frontend, I had a pretty nice UI driving the hardware synth and effects modules. Not bad. I should use this more often.11 -
My compartmentalizing skill is not good enough. Wasted last night by doing nothing and falling asleep because of a bad mood. I have shit tons of tasks.3

To all you fuckers out there giving bad app rating because some shit does not work on your shitty phone and you are to fucking lazy to report the bug via the fucking "send log to dev"-button that pops up with the exception.
Go fuck yourself.
And to all the user whose bugs I fixed and did not change their Bad rating - fuck you too.
And oh.. The fucktards that did not even install the app and give a Bad rating because i am your competitor - guess what...fuck you.8 -
Have I ever told you guys of the time that I had made my PM feel bad by saying I had to drop 3 classes because he was working me so hard?
Yeah that happened and he felt really bad about it!
GOOD! FUCKING GOOD! I want you to feel bad about it! Don't you dare say that I'm not putting in enough work ever again!1 -

I guess most of the things I do are a bad dev habit?
From not commenting stuff to commenting in German to copying stuff without looking at it, procrastinating a lot, not starting at all, bad naming of variables, bad... Everything? Idk, I have a lot to learn4 -
App crashed during a live demo. Hard not to feel bad especially since it's friday and i have to go into the weekend with that thought. Am i overreacting?6

Sometimes I think that going to jail for arson wouldn't be so bad. But other times I'm not doing code review on a Monday.

I feel so bad for the Devs of this app, they can't make up bullshit excuses and not bug test their code like other Devs can

Well not bad for my first try eh? I implemented a std::vector-like container and it's about 4 times as fast as std::vector10

Recently started watching Silicon valley and I'm already in love with it!
Too bad it's not on Netflix and I have to watch it... you know... somewhere else.6 -
Blaming someone and giving them a lecture on a bad code/bug then realizing it's not a bug or that I fixed it incorrectly.

Unpopular opinion:
- It's not a guarantee that someone who gets into tech because he/she likes gaming will be a good dev
- It's not a guarantee that someone who gets into tech because he/she likes money will be a bad dev.3 -
I know this is kinda late but it just came in this morning..
With the current codebase I'm working with, it's not that bad of an option...😉1 -
Cannot understand those who are frustrated with it.
Sure, one can feel frustration when some project is not going as they were supposed to go, but that is life for ya, boi.
Without wanting to offend anyone it feels like devs who complain so much either do not actively search for a solution and learn shit properly and cry their soul out afterwards or they do search, but cannot find anything.
Patience is the solution. Do not let yourself fall down and stay strong.
Even if it takes a lot of willpower, retries, inner pain, patience and non-sleepy nights, you will and can do it. I believe in you.
My whole life was basically a psychological disaster.
I have had and still have depression and a lot of short frustrations from time to time, too, but I do not cry it out loud.
My high school is fucked up. In every single aspect. I am doing all-nighters almost every day. With maybe half an hour of sleep to get school projects done on time.
I cannot just say "fuck you. I am not gonna do this shit" to school, because that would affect my grades in a negative way. Same thing applies to you, as an employee, too. But at least you do not need to be afraid of getting bad grades.
Bad grades->not getting the desired degree->bad chance of finding a job
In your case:
Bad communication with boss->bad connection->bad chance of finding a job
But is that really so?
I do not think so. Nonetheless, you still can have a good chance of finding a job, if you have proven yourself to others in a great way. Everyone has bad times. Even with their bosses. That's normal. Being bad with someone does not make yourself bad in general.
The job world will still accept you, but school won't accept you again. Whenever I feel like the burnout is about to catch me, I take an immediate break and go outside. Take a walk in the sunset. Go to the forest. Run with music playing loudly. Swim. And other things like watching the stars in the silence of the night.
To finally come to an end here...
Do not make yourself feel bad that quickly and try to endure the pain. This is going to make you a better and stronger person.
If you cannot do it anymore (hitting the borders of burnout), take your time and do whatever makes you happy and treat yourself.
Life is not all about work. Were you born to be a worker? No. Were you born to be a slave of others? No.
What is holding you then? Let go of all the stress (for a minute). You are free.
You are a great person.
Do not forget that.7 -
I get emailed a bug with a bad photo (6.4 mb) of the guys pc where half the url is cut out.
So I ask the dude for the url, I shit you not he took 2 more bad photos (15mb of attachments) then hooked his phone up to his pc and mailed them to me.

Pissed that employers try to post fake happy reviews RIGHT AFTER a bad review. How about fixing your company and not treating people like crap?!2

Removed his shoes and walked around in the office on his socks. Not that bad, really, until you factor in the smell. It was nauseating. HAHA5

Good news: my company has received more calls today since I can ever remember
Bad news: It's because a telemarketing company spoofed our phone number, so it's not drumming up any business. -
So it's.... Not a switch.
Poor marketing. Just don't call it a switch and it's not a bad handheld!5 -
Not gonna lie. I’m in the mood to make a game and I’m gonna try it. I think it’ll be fun. Wish me luck!
For anyone curious I’m gonna be using Godot because it’s not bad and It’s not nearly as fat as Unreal and Unity. They’re not bad just not what I want rn.6 -
Fucking dialog box with only one choice... “Stay Connected” what the hell did you even give me this choice for? What if I wanted to log out? Why prompt at all?3
-
Just came across this in a website project of my company.... and it goes on for about 5 times of that. But it's not in the html code, guess it comes from some js framework. Not sure if bug in framework or bad code in website.8

Devs: Early birds or night owls?
Me: Definitelly night owl, can not wake up before 10 and sometimes working till morning. I know it is bad for health but I can not help myself. Being much more creative and productive at night.12 -
When the user complains that our web tool is corrupting and losing data when converting results into excel while he is the one putting more that 40,000 characters into one text box which is way more than what Excel's cell can handle1

"Turning away bad clients can leave you feeling oddly guilty. They’re sort of like alcoholic or meth head cousins who force you, by their own bad behavior into denying them things you wouldn’t deny other people. You’re left feeling not quite yourself." - Carolyn Wood

My mom keeps giving me stick about not eating properly..
How can you eat when your app crashes so bad that you entertain the thought of starting over again? -
what are the odds of walking with a cup of coffe and a drop falls off right into your pocket of your cowboy jeans and wets a bunch of the money you have in your wallet..1

Today a tester returned my task because “placeholder should say Bruse Wayne not John Doe”.
Yes, Bruse, not Bruce.
Too bad I’m leaving John Doe there and close it anyways5 -
Don't. Especially while you're not a senior specialist. It doesn't really matter bad company or good: they all have something bad, they all have something good. From the bad examples you will learn WHAT, HOW and *WHY* should not be done. From the good examples you will learn what and why works and how efficiently.
Next month I'm gonna be working on a project that is SO bad I will flood DR with rants. But I'm looking forward to it, because I know I will learn what else should not be done.
Better learn from their mistakes than your own2 -
Me: *pushes up code that should stop bad thing from happening*
Bad thing: *doesnt happen for a few hours*
Is..is it good??? Did i fix it????? Or does the thing just randomly not happen right now??????? We will never know.6 -
Sometimes when I read old code of mine I'm ashamed. But more often when I read others I just feel better.
(I'm talking about other webdev freelancers, not OS projects or so...) -
Not adding input validation to that one page that time.
I knew my users were bad. I knew they'd fuck up. But I trusted the spec I trusted them.
Never again. -
A week with flutter:
1. I like how simple it is compared to React Native
2. Same issues as react, want platform specific, good luck writing plugins. Though the upside is I can use Swift and Kotlin with it, but still mixed code is bad7 -
Been depressed and bored for the past two days, wish I'm always like this. why?
I learned how to MVVM in WPF and Android.
If only Apple creates something similar to what Microsoft and Google did for data binding.
If it exists please let me know :)9 -
Some minutes ago our firewall in office overheated, no internet, no network, no real way to work some time for coffee and nerd talk - not bad at all1

!Rant
Looking at various Devs & non-devs like myself, ranting, posting meme's [my bad];
I realised why we keep coming back. Nope not because of the notifications, but because devRant feels like home dare I say it, it feels like family.
Thank you @dfox @trogus & the other creators who aren't that famous [my bad I don't remember your names].
Thank you.5 -
So I gave i3 a try today via Manjaro i3 (don't have time to get a config of my own from scratch, would rather have a working setup which I can fiddle around with).
It's pretty...good actually. Doesn't work quite as well as I'd hoped because of my laptop's small screen, but still nice. Works well with my Blender and editing workflow too, so that's a plus.
After I'd spent an hour fixing audio and WiFi issues, of course, because Linux, but then that's just part of the fun amirite4 -
Today was a bad dev day working on a shitty React project. Not that React in itself is bad, but it can be hell to work with when the code is a big pile a crap full of anti pattern code. I spent the day refactoring to try to fix a bug, but to no avail. It would take days if not weeks to put some order in this mess and to prevent such bugs.6

Not bad vs 2022. Not bad !
I wanted to write that (really, not a joke).
Sometimes, auto complete just works. -
(Not a rant)

from 1-10 how bad is it if i publish an app to play store knowing it has bugs and is not very optimized but everything works fine?17

Bad habit?
Procrastinating important tasks because they're not fun, then stressing right before my deadlines..2 -
I do not think that GoTo is bad. It can lead to hellish code but if you don't misuse it - it can be extremely useful.6

It makes me feel good to hear of all the mistakes people make - reminds me that if I make a mistake its actually not as bad as I think 😃

Wrote my first u it tests for c++. Considering how hard everything else is, I was sort of afraid. But turns out it’s not as bad as I was expecting.2

Did so much work today that my ring finger on my right hand is actually sore from pressing the enter key.
Too bad all that code belongs to my job and not me.6 -
Today somebody at work asked why they couldn't change a primary key.
Not joking.
Are you fucking kidding me?? There's a reason SSMS doesn't allow it.. because BAD SHIT HAPPENS if you do.2 -

It literally haunts me that I've used jQuery in a reactjs project, I'm not saying that jQuery is bad but using it does not seems right, I can't sleep, always thinking about a solution, fml5

(Surprisingly) unpopular opinion: Multiple inheritance is a bad design practice and should not be used.16

"The designer is not always right. The researcher is not always wrong. Profit is not always the motive; market research, whatever its outcome, should never be used as a good excuse for bad design – in the same sense that good design should never be used to promote a bad product." - Paul Rand1

No, the language is not stupid :) No, it is not a problem of the language, it's just the fact that you don't really understand how to use it properly :) i think this is something each of us hates to hear while frustated but needs to hear afterwards, bad design is a posibility tho, but 99.999% of the cases is our fault. face it, nd overcome it! and finally, to grow beyond it 😄

When you're told you are a great culture fit, and have great experience - but not ENOUGH experience.
Feels bad man.5 -
My shit job sucks so much.
How bad, you ask?
Well, let me give you some perspective.
It sucks so bad, that I took a small freelance job ... not much $$$ ... and I actually liked it.
Normally they suck so bad and get so way out of hand that I end up regretting it. Work sucks so bad, it made me happy to something else. -
I started with debugging my Android app...and I ended up with looking YouTube videos inside the Android emulator... Result: it's not too bad xD2
-
Is it bad now I seem to take some pleasure whenever I see someone/something on my team blow up and go "¯\_(ツ)_/¯ not my code, not my problem"5
-
Is it bad that I put on tshirts and have un-kept hair even at client briefs?, I am not the lead developer3

So PHP 7.2 according to its creator, is actually faster if you write bad code.
Well im not amused.5 -
Not bad for a test over WiFi 😮
Still, how I long for fiber... Then I won't need to use a VPN to boost my speed lol... Not that I'll stop using one...17 -
It's not the cable
It can't possibly be the cable

If the website layout is all broken and looks bad - it’s your fault. You can’t claim “I’m not a visual designer.” No one cares about how slick your MVC style is.3

I fucking hate CSS. I thought I'm not bad at it ... But I just wasted 1h over nothing ...
Couldn't set the width for the anker tags5 -
I'm so bad about keeping track of my time, that I just use `git reflog --date=iso` to figure out when I was working and not working 😂

So apparently not a bad idea to clean up your folders every once in a while. Just cleaned about 120GB, mostly by deleting things from my downloads folder5
-
As some of you might know I am currently working in a QA Team.
One of my "colleagues" asked me to help him with the automation of a simple page.
The tool we are using could not determine if a checkbox on a mask was checked or not so he decided to open a BUG!
This is not a bug the page is working fine (the checkmark is visible and the server handles the data correctly)!!
When I asked him why he opened the bug he said "Because I want the developer to make that easier for me!!!"
WTF This is your job! JUST GET IT FUCKING DONE!
I work my ass of to close the gap between testers and developers...
BUT IF I SEE THINGS LIKE THAT I UNDERSTAND EVERY DEV WHO WANTS TO PUNCH HIM INTO HIS FACE! -
Trying to explain a game developer in a community, why its a bad idea to only make client side patches for equiptment to appear correctly..
me: because the server needs to be aware of the changes made to avoid faulty calculations, for instance if the client calculates a fatal but the server disagree..
dev: but it works...
me: yes, but not optimally.
dev: Working as intended (TM)
me: ... teh fuq?
not sure if he's a bad troll or wut..1 -
Not sure if it is because my computer is older, but my demo app is taking forever for gradle to build! Now I can procrastinate without feeling bad! 😁😁
-
Do you ever look at old code from years ago a think “god that was bad”? I’m so embarrassed by something I wrote on 2010, it’s shockingly bad!
I actually feel a little low and think maybe I’m not very good! Of course now my code is so much better but think to myself, is what I’m writing now gonna be the same down the line?2 -
Two things actually bad I do :
* Put some printing lines everywhere to debug, and then, debug.
* A syntax than can be pretty bad if not handled properly :
if (your test)
do_something();
I actually always put a tabulation to see the hierarchy and break lines, which is not optimized AT ALL but help me to read, and I hope helps other to read too.
But that's a bad habit tho if you have bad presentation of your code (which I don't have, given how people compliments my code presentation) -
How is the shopify developer experience actually so bad.
Shopify Buy JS docs suck
Product ID's are inconsistent
Token management is not built into GUI1 -
Connect my brain and communicate to any computer telepathically.
Not humans, I don't want human brains.
But computers. Sweet little bad-ass machines. -
The annoyance when you type something and butcher the spelling of a word so bad that not even spell check has any clue.1

"Can't you just write 'width stop at text'"?
When discussing a grid system cell width
I think they meant it light heartedly, so it's not as bad... (And their not a dev). -
I spent half a month shifting my code base from express to you in view of better performance and what not.
I made a bad decision. I've wasted so much time.3 -
It's not enough to be clean, perfomant and maintainable, it needs to be beautiful. if it looks bad it's probably bad.10
-
Thought after spending more than two days after a VBA non-sense flaw:
People that say that VBA is not that bad simply don’t have that much experience in VBA. -
My boss telling me not to worry and be more confident, after pointing out that not updating bad ad hoc code is not a long term solution, just inspired the confidence in me to tell him to go fuck himself if shit brakes during the weekend and evenings.1

Not gonna lie; having both != == and !== and === in JavaScript is one of the most stupid bad design moments; in my opinion.
I am not even going to bother trying to come up with a better syntax for that. I will never get over how bad it is. So bad. === is 🤡8 -
For me is the same Friday than Monday. I do not know if it is good or bad. Maybe it is good because I do not hate my job or bad because I do not make so much fun on weekends. 😗😗

Sooo TIL:
Running software that is still in development and it uses realtime jackd is a REALLY BAD IDEA. I could not even kill the damn thing! Thankfully shutdown -r now worked...1 -
Thinking of ideas is not so much about them being unique as it is about tackling them in a unique way.
The only bad idea you can have is giving up on the last. -
Has any one here experience with 99designs.com? If so good/bad? Would you recommend it? Why/why not? And are there alternatives/what else would you use?2
-
Not sure if I don't know how to manage time properly, lazy, bad or just inexperienced.
I need a "How to get shit done faster" tutorial.2 -
I'd like to propose that we pivot the saying "there are no bad ideas" into " it's okay to have bad ideas".
Having worked with web frontends the last couple of years I can confirm with reasonable certainty that there are indeed several bad ideas, and "no bad ideas" is not a veto that will make me implement a 3d carousel calendar. -
I was not such a coffee person, but now at work, I really get it.
it's a sin to say bad about Coffee as a developer.3 -
The worst project I worked on so far was a bash script of over 2000 lines written by two different people who both script differently. I was supposed to understand the script and "fix a few things".
Names of functions were as confusing as possible.
Up to this day I'm still forced to use it.3 -
me: damn, that interview went so bad. this company will not offer me the job.
*1 month later
got the job offer as software engineer from the company.
should i accept it?lol1 -
I was sitting in Geometry, and i realized something. Geometry fucking sucks, i would pick Algebra any day. I love using letters it reminds me of varibles and its not thay bad5

Getting real sick of companies who think they can get out of obviously bad claims by making claims that are "less bad" and more technical. As if it improves the situation. But alas Huawei....
"No we weren't spying. It's not a back door. We just forgot that we left telnet enabled for 7 years."
Fucking really?! That's supposed to make you trustworthy?!3 -
ok. i am not a professional dev. today i am at a workshop to learn about a new software for my profession. instead of concentrating about the functions all i can do is to bother about bad ui and ux and the bad excuses from the developer why this and that doesn't work. seems to be quite a hasty development.

Rant and opinions wanted. Its a long one.
I have been working on a project for a month and a half. For the first week I was requesting designs that I got about 2 of out of 15. For the next week and a half the designer was on holiday so I couldn't do anything but delivered a few more designs once he got back.
This takes us 2 weeks in already. I have other things to do as well so at the same time I work on support tickets and some bespoke development coming in.
I get given 2 or 3 more designs and can't get anything else out of the designer after waiting a week so I have to design everything myself as I go and build it. Something I have never done before.
We are now 3 and a half weeks in. My boss randomly tells my pm it needs to be demo ready the next day. I work furiously to hack something together. It works but key functionality is missing.
I move house and work from home for a week and a half. I do my best but the project is full of bugs and the CSS is horrible because I didn't know what I was making at any stage. It is therefore CSS rules repeated in IDs everywhere.
My colleagues join me on the project because my boss has decided to try and sell it tomorrow.
They run through it and find all the bugs left from me working furiously to get things done quickly. Things like no search pagination and missing validation.
My boss is now pisses at me because the project is not finished, my colleagues are now all working on it. Throughout it all he knew the designer was not delivering me anything and that I was struggling.
Am I in the wrong for writing shit code that came about because I was coding with no idea of what the finished project should look like? Is he in the wrong for dumping this on me and just letting me get on with it even though he knew there were no designs?
Btw I am just finishing a 1 year internship and before this have never done web dev before.
Discuss.7 -
Well can confirm after a second viewing, the new star wars is ok, not great not bad buuuuuuut, it's a lot better the second time if you start looking at the smaller details and realise a lot of new things, overall, 5/101

People in companies who make bad git commit messages beacuse they do not care... Hey, "change 1", "update" makes so much sense. And companies who do not care to have some guidelines.5

Guys cover your eyes I'm gonna say two bad words inside a paragraph
Fuck JavaScript and asynchronous programming - I'm not skilled enough for this so I have to insult it periodically until I'm skilled enough to know partially more than now what the fuck I'm doing (therefore the times I use bad words when referring to js and async programming will decrease - or maybe at the increase of knowledge, my usage of bad words will augment. Only time will tell).15 -
Why does MySQL call databases schemes? Makes absolutely no sense.
Schema is the metadata around your tables or documents. What is Json Schema? Metadata around a json object.
MySQL, databases contain data. Schemes do not! Bad DB technology. Bad...2 -
Bad habit as a developer I wanted to unlearn is To not to keep posting rants in front of my Team Leader while working who is discussing about project with me..

I knew when my dad showed me gwbasic on a tandy 1000. Never did more than a high/low guessing game but not bad for a 7 year old. I so do not miss having to manually number lines.

Today I saw how the frontend devs on my team write Vue components + TypeScript. It's bad and it further proves that Vue=bad. Not even TypeScript can save it from being bad. Function defineComponent is ugly5

Holy shit, Kotlin does not have package-private?! I thought Kotlin was just a bad mix of JS syntax and Java... but not supporting an essential feature of the VM is on a whole another level of bad.8

I was at school the whole last week, and could work on my Ruby / React project the whole time, but now that I'm back to work, I forgot how to PHP 😅

What's wrong with interviewers who never call or send an email?
It's not like it was a bad date you want to get out of. It's a fucking interview!!3 -
It is quite disappointing when some developers only rely on using libraries / dependencies(or whatever you call it) rather than do it manually. I know it can make the work faster but still using too much libraries will make it worst. It’s not bad using libraries, but if you use too much libraries it doesn’t degrade the performance of the app ( too much memory space when you only need that certain action and you include the whole library) but when the library becomes deprecated and no updates that might cause a problem.
It’s not bad using libraries, but not too much.2 -
I can't really predict anything except AI/ML being used extensively. Let's hope networks become decentralised again. And I really hope that node (although it's not too bad) is replaced by deno

My company just announced we're going to have a one week furlough. It's bad, but not as bad as a layoff. If we miss Q2 (which we will with the current state of affairs), then we will have layoffs starting in July I'm sure.4

I've never really understand why i should use tools with bad UI or even command line if it's not really necessary! I'm mean, we've FUCKING 2017, give me a proper UI! I want to work, not search every damn feature of the tool!

On my way home from work using public transport and I want to enjoy some rants.
But thanks to this fucking bad mobile network access I'm not able to load a single one.1 -
Feeling bad 😞😔, someone tell me how to start software development.....I believe it not html, css and Js ,,,...or is Reactjs8

Wanting to remake the wheel.

Long time no rant..
Although work is way too much and stressful, things are actually not too bad at all..back to the office (voluntary), got back into to a routine, got a raise way below what it should be, lots of "off the books" overtime that I'll never be able to compensate, but.. still not to bad at all.. feeling better than I have for the last couple of years.. 👌 -
So, my simulations started to take about a week to complete.
Productively invested the time in getting into Python!
I'm really liking its syntax and relative simplicity (coming from c++) and I'm kinda digging it at a sort of proof-of-concept producer: instead of talking in pseudocode I can just put down a python script to show what I mean. -
Wow! This is a popular topic!
I would say myself... Many developers I look up to and impress the fuck out of me... But I think I'm still not half bad.
However, while I haven't met them, the number of times I've had to clean up the shittiest code from developers who have been and gone is astonishing... So... So bad... Like what the actual fuck... -
Just discovered this skiddie's channel:

So I had an interesting conversation with a "developer" from another org:
Me: "So I might have a new client. Their site really needs an update."
Them:"Let me see." *goes to perspective client site*
Them:"Wow, that's bad!"
Me:"Yep it hasn't been touched since 08"
Them:"No, that's not the reason. The reason it looks this bad is because it is made with php."9 -
Co-developer loves going through my code and tries to make me look bad to the team, not quite sure what I ever did to her lol

"Take this test," they said.
I did, and scored 81/100. Not great, but not bad.
"Not bad," they said. "But you took too much time and didn't show us experience in JavaScript."
I completed all tasks in the allotted time and did them all in JavaScript. What else am I supposed to do for you people?1 -
Let's list off all the craziest stuff that happened in 2016. (Crazy meaning unexpected not good or bad)
I'll start with the cubs winning the world series.6 -
!Rant. My previous job hunting experience was great. I joined a platform that focuses not only on getting the best candidate for the company, but also the right fit for the candidate. After my coding test, I recieved a T-shirt and a book as a welcome gift. I also got partnered with a talent advisor. I received multiple interview requests on my first weekend and found my dream job by the following Wednesday. I then got a signing bonus in my first week and a expensive bottle of champagne from them to say good luck. The only problem I have is that they found me such a great job with huge amount of future growth opportunities that I will not be using them in the future. Shout out to OfferZen.com for looking out for devs and making the pain of finding a job feel more like a Dungeon and Dragons quest.

Am I bad for not bothering with these things and if it just too much to handle I tell boss to tell him to STFU?

I just found this in the code I'm working on:
function checkDateValidity() {
function checkDateValidity() {

}
}
Obviously a bad copy/paste. Not even sure how it was working before; it probably wasn't.1 -
Scala is a better TypeScript. Feels so easy and natural to switch. Too bad it mainly targets Java devs. Scala.js is not nearly as popular as it should be.3

I'm seeing the rails intro by the creator and being honest, I'm not sure if all the abstraction is a really good thing or a really bad thing.1

So many people complain on how js is stupid (I did too not long ago), but at the same time you know there are good parts in it if there are books literally called "js: the good parts". So I've been thinking, why not make a subscript of it with all the recognised bad bits cut out? What do you guys think about that? Too bad I'm too underskilled to pull that off alone 😥1

Not dev related but I hope you all tell me I'm a good person anyway.
Just spent 2 hours trying to park to go to casino. Walked 30 minutes. Sat at the poker table. And got rekt in my first 20 minutes... Feels bad man. Lost $420. I hope I'm not as bad at coding as I am playing poker hahahaha kill me now plz. ..14 -
Finally decided to do remote in to finish some work... but the machine is off...
Not sure if this is good or bad... -
I have to let it out :
- Javascript is not Java
- classes in Javascript are bad
- Yes OOP can be done without classes2 -
Swift versioning is a really shitty bit. But not as bad the unreadable mashed together bastardized horseshit that is objective-c

Good day sires. I come to call out Android OS. I think Android OS is bad; it limits the freedom. We must call out Android OS it is our duty as software enlightened because the regular people cannot do it; they do not understand.
Rise up Android OS hater army 😡😡😡
Android bad. We will be heard14 -
I don't even know that i should say it was a good problem or a bad one, i was programming a magnetometer sensor in both spi and i2c. I was tired of not working
I touched the sensor it dropped off!!! It was not soldered well!!!! At the problem was not from the code1 -
Does anyone know if there's a list or something with examples of bad variable names? As in ones that shouldn't be used because they're already used namespaces and such?
It would be awfully convenient in situations where you're not sure if it's an okay name or not. :/ -
IMHO: VS Code = Gnome (I love it but it's a constant fight)
Sublime = Unity (Not bad and reliable)5 -
Si this was a very good and bad week at work. The good part is I finally learned how to properly write tests. Not that I am a pro at it, but at least they don’t suck now.
The bad is I took a ticket that I now see was terribly underestimated, but hopefully I will finish it and the rest on time. -
I know it !
But when it finally works (reSharper) it's really not 'that' bad.
But my poor AMD Ryzen 9 3900X is not good enough I think lol.
About 30 seconds init time.2 -
Going through old code
And it's beautiful
Probably my best code ever
And it feels good
I am not that bad actually -
If only the people behind git knew about Leonardo da Vinci's "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication". Even https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/... would have suficed. Sigh. Well, job security is not bad either.2
