Finally my first app is on Play Store. But, since I don't have that much experience with the "make muh app visible" side of things. Even if I search specifically for that app nothing shows up. Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
Here's the app tho, prolly the description does not have keywords or something 🤷🏻♀️
So ehm, tl;dr: KEEP DAILY BACKUPS. EVEN IF SOMEONE SAYS NOT TO.
Manager: Hey Tom, is the server down?
Me: Nah, should be ok, I just did some maintenance this sunday.
Manager: But I can't get [some work data from SQL server]
9:14: Some random off-site cunt they hired didn't read the notes that said "DO NOT REMOVE DATABASE [xyz]"
9:20-ish: Web don't even have the DB. And you said that we'll figure out what to do with backups later
*Suddenly manager starts to panic*
11:47: Found backup of the entire server on and old server that we had for spare parts, still running tho.
12:something: Everything back up and working.
Really glad I kept the old server running and doing daily backups. Saved our ass for the second time. And finally, new off-site backup is planned this week.3
So I just spent a 7 fucking hours recreating a feature just to find out that I already did it once. Don't forget to checkout the correct branch fellas.
Don't even know how to start. I currently work as technician (fix broken shit devices like apple and manage our servers).
Before the rant, here's a note: I'm a newbie-ish something.. Like I do some Java and Android stuff but nothing amazing (yet).
Here's my rant:
Boss: Hey, you mentioned in your CV that you do some programming.
Me: Yep, but just starting. Already made few apps but nothing crazy big.
Boss: Well, doesn't really matter. But, can you make an app and a website for us? We'll decide on the budget later.
Me: *kinda suspicious* Ehm, yep? I'll just make a wireframe and show you what I came up with.
*few weeks later*
Boss: So how's the app doing?
Me: I told ya that I'm making only wireframe. If you want the app you can:
a) pay for it
b) don't do anything and I'll make it open-source
Boss: No don't do that. We want the source on our FTP server.
Me: Riiight... That's a big no-no for me. It's gonna be on VCS, otherwise you can forget about the app and web.
Boss: *staring silently at me*
To this day, not a single response from him. We had one meeting where I presented the Website and app design, everyone was ok with it but no answer when I asked about the budget. Should I just scrap these projects and continue making them on github ('cuz I kinda like to learn new shit this way)5
Yay! Finally got my first job in IT.
They call it just "IT admin/sysadmin", but it's... eh..
What I do is make sure the servers work (sysadmin part) and make desktop/mobile apps. So far, the company seems to be quite nice, there are already 4 devs who are friendly. *knocks on wood*
Will see how it goes, and I'd like to thank you for sharing your stories. Learned quite a lot from them!5
Don't forget to git push before reinstalling Windows :)
I only did git commit and forgot to push changes. And the rest is pretty obvious.4
This little piece of something was on few pins of the ram socket. That explains why I was getting all of those MEMORY_MANAGEMENT GSODs3
What a nice day. We've been working on this for the past few hours. All we need is just one PCI-E extender. Well, halfway through, there was one tiny cable from 12V rail touching something else. Result: one probably dead GTX 106011
Here we go. GDPR(?) again.
Don't know where to ask this kind of stuff, SO is prolly too much and from my experience, you guys here always gave the best answers to stuff..
I'm currently working on a website as a project for finals (it's called Maturita/SOČ here :/) and it's supposed to be a dasboard where teachers can add some info about upcoming stuff and shit like that. Few things: No frameworks, just JS, PWA and Firebase. I've been hearing a lot of stuff about GDPR that I should comply with it and so on.
Here's the question: It's PWA and the data is currently stored in localStorage and planning to sync it to Firebase. What I store is name of the school, few URLs they enter in and the information they provide, like the upcoming events and such. Should I worry about GDPR in this case, and if so, what can I do?11
"Europe to make it illegal to change the OS on radio devices like smartphones, routers and embedded devices."
I don't know what to say anymore31
What do you guys recommend to read when starting Electron project with React and Typescript. I'm kinda stuck. :/
I've already make a simple Electron app with Js, but few people recommended me to try React, Redux and Typescript. But idk where to start.
P.S: Tried the boilerplate, reading docs.. I need something that explains what does what and how.4
Took few weeks break from coding, social media and stuff like that. And holy cow things have changed. Over 9k new rants here, bunch of new js frameworks, Instagram got some security issues..
I'm just amazed.7
Just started using Electron. Seems alright. But
coming from Java, I have no fucking idea how that shit works. Started with something simple, so I wanted to show currrent date and time in a <h1>.
Well, I'm stuck. Time to read docs again :)
Great. So my laptop just died and it's time to send it to RMA. That's not a big deal. except I forgot to push few commits and now there's no way of doing it. Just great3
I'm starting to learn laravel. Do you guys have and tips or something like that for newbies that you'd like to share?4
So, I just started doing some UI stuff and I have no idea ehat I'm doing. What should I change?
Oh and this is still work in progress.

Forgot to add build.prop to ported rom. I guess, that is the problem why it is not booting up.. :/1
Finally started to *properly* learn Java and make an Android application, instead of copying random code from SO. So glad I made that decision. Well, still a lot of things to learn :/
Here is what I made so far, if you are interested.
