Only pure evil can design a PC case that has reset button same size and shape like USB port and place it next to USB ports.22
I think I just broke the (only) USB C port on my MacBook so I’m racing to push about 30 git repos before the battery dies forever22
Apple, which dumb fuck thought this would be good? ok new mouse, no more batteries it can be charged on a wire, cool you may think, until it actually needs charging and you discover that the charging port is on the bottom, making the mouse unusable whilst charging!!!52
My wife is turning into my project manager . . .
Me : Check out this game I'm building as a side project!
Wife : Wow that's really neat! I expect to be able to play it on my phone. 1 month?
Me: What? I haven't even learned how to port ...
Wife : (interrupts) ONE MONTH
Scope creep even at home *sigh14
Whoever at Dell thought it would be a good idea to put the charging port next to the USB port is a genius21
So my USB DVD drive needs more power than a normal USB port can deliver.
Normal Person: I'll bring it back to the store and get a diffrent one.
My boss has a camera in the office for "security" reasons and I happen to be just right under it, exposing my computer screens to it. So I wrote a script that sends me an email whenever the camera port is accessed.14
Since I already got all the stuff working for the devrant client on Arduino, why not port it in other platforms ?
So here it is DevRant 3DS client18
Aardwolf is very fun and i suggest y'all play it a bit if you're looking for better ways to slack off at work
$ telnet aardwolf.org 4000
*port 23 also works25
Someone advised him that WP runs faster on Ruby.
Now, he wants me to port WordPress to RubyOnRails !!!17
I am not able to login to your prod server. Can you please verify the following:
My idiotic coworker8
My school has every port except 80 and sometimes 443 blocked.
But their webfilter allows you to click "close this message" and continue to the blocked site.
I don't understand their priorities..20
How to plug a USB in a USB port:
1. Try to insert it
2. If it doesn't go, rotate it 180 degrees
3. Of it doesn't go, rotate it back
4. There you go7
"The customer reports that port 21 is closed on our FTP site. They said that port 443 is open, and wonder if they can use that instead."
"They are entering the wrong server name. Our FTP server is ONLY an FTP server. Port 443 is not open on our FTP server.
Please verify that they are entering `ftp.xxxxxx.com`
Our FTP site supports FTP/SSL if they are concerned about security."
"Customer responds that they would rather use port 443 to send files."
"I'm sure they would. I'd also like to enter our building on the west side when the temperature is below 10º, but there are no doors on the west side, so that's not going to happen, is it?"2
Can't ssh to my vps at work; hello new hobby project!
(server hosted on vps, http request -> shell -> http response)
Next up is supporting an interactive shell18
Misunderstanding is like running ftp server on port 80!
Ftp responses for http request!
In real life it happens like this3
Just realized. The only use of port 80 (providing it runs something like NginX/Apache) is (or, should be anyways) redirecting users from a non-secure connection to a secure one.
Poor port 80 😖47
An ability to port all Windows games to Linux without performance loss due to bad ports and bad drivers so I won't have to dual boot anymore.5
My roommate use torrent to download games, movies and series on an 8mb connection 24/7 even when he's sleeping. I a lot of times asked him nicely not to do that while I'm working or use speed limiter so it won't cause any problem for us, once in a while is okay but not every day. But people like him don't listen.
>Now i just disabled utorrent port associated with his IP every time he goes out or go to sleep. That what you get from being a self servings duche bag5
On the train's public WiFi while traveling and want to use a VPN connection to one of my own VPN servers.
I'm now just realizing that the openvpn port is probably not an allowed one on this network and I set the port to the default openvpn one 😥
Fuck me sideways right now.7
A roommate said he didnt have internet on his laptop. Wifi wasnt working for him and the cable doesnt fit because he has a new ethernet port and needs another cable for that.
I told him that there is no new ethernet port or new ethernet port standard, I would have heard about it.
But he insisted that it was true.
So I grabbed the ethernet cable, pulled the clamp on his ethernet port down (as most new laptops now have) and plugged the cable in.3
Just tried washing my S8.
Works completely fine with speakers and camera, microphone, etc
During the process, it said that water was detected in the charging port, so I had to wait 10 minutes to charge until the port dries.
P.S. How do they detect water???24
Just found out that the generic router that our ISP gave us, which we use at work, has a port you can telnet into to get shell access with root privileges.12
Let's make something in angular sounds like a great idea.
6 months later
Let's port everything from angular to react as angular 2 is a complete rewrite.
Another 6 months later.
I think i like the simplicity of vuejs.
Lets try that now. 😂😂😂1
Stepmom told me I take up the most bandwidth in the house because I have 3 monitors. ATT guy said the problem was I forwarded a Minecraft port on our router. Am I the only person who knows anything about routers?!4
Who said programmers cannot solve hardware problems?
My router just said "Check hardware connection of your WAN port"
I took the cable out, blew in the socket and put it back in.
My internet is back in action.3
Companies: We are commited to linux and it is truly the future!
Developers: Awesome! So are you going to port your most popular softw-
Companies: AI! Machine Leaning! Cloud computing! Streaming!3
The power to port any game i want to linux, so i can finally ditch windows :D
To power a Pihole that blocks Ubiquiti analytics from a USB port of the Ubiquiti router itself. Ironic, cynical, yet absolutely beautiful solution.
Ubiquiti can suck my dick.21
devCraft MineCraft server update:
Thanks to my friends YoungWolves, Mehrsun, and @AlgoRythm, the server spawn is looking nice! we're working on the Survival world
Special thanks to algo for the icon resizing!
All you need is ComputerCraft 1.75 (for 1.7.10) to join!
the Port is 25565 / default.
@dfox & @trogus
Just finished reading your app update and I must say that I'm very impressed with the number of changes that have come out in the past six or so weeks. Good job guys and keep up the good work!
PS an autocomplete '@' mention feature would be really helpful.1
Yesterday I successfully replaced the charging port and headphone jack of my Oneplus 5
*INCOMING CALL FROM MY NETWORK PROVIDER*
I'm calling from *my network provider* and I wanted to check if you would like to port to our network.
This happened 3 times in a day already. And now 4th time.
Me : Look man, I'm already on the same network and I don't need to port.
Guy : You should have told this to me in the beginning. You wasted my time in not doing that.
THIS CUM DRINKING PIECE OF SHIT PUNKASS BITCH MOTHERFUCKER COULDN'T DO A SIMPLE SEARCH ON HIS COMPUTER BEFORE GIVING ME A CALL AND THEN TELLS ME I WASTED HIS TIME.5
I felt very inspired when I first controlled a LED using QBasic and the LPT1 (printer) port, back in 1996. It just felt like "so much power"!
(Was more or less similar to the photo)1
1996, my colleagues trying to port Chorus microkernel on Cray supercomputer. System crashes every ~5 days with no apparent reason. After weeks of investigation someone notices one of the network cables slightly longer than others ... after ~5 days and speed of light the Cray would miss a clock tick and crashes. Replaced network cable and it works fine!
Don't mess with supercomputers ...2
port 22 - blocked
steam - blocked
Have to prove you are human, while visiting every other website
Sometimes captca doesnot stop after 3-4 images. Goes on to show you even more
facebook - unblocked
instagram - unblocked
youporn - unblocked18
I managed to take down an entire school network with one VPN.
In short, I ran a personal VPN and eventually the System Administrators at my old school managed to pick it up as unknown traffic. For some reason, they managed to block the port but not the IP so I changed the port to 443 and their automatic system blocked port 443 on their entire network essentially rendering HTTPS useless for a few hours.
I never got approached about it but my school invested in a new IT team.4
Thought of buying an HTC Vive then I realized I would need to add a few things to my shopping list:
- 16 GB Ram cards
- Windows 10
- 2 TB Hard drive
- NVIDIA Graphics Card
- HDMI Display Port/Controller
- 2 monitors
My parents ended up getting me a Google Cardboard6
I accidently used the wrong language to code in... So I had to port my code over to the right one.8
Dev(null networking knowledge): -"i've already deployed the web but it isn't up."
Boss(strong networking skills): Found port 80 blocked.
-Option A: open port 80.
-Option B: disable firewall.
Choose option B.
I dropped my phone and the charger port broke, so now I can't use devRant that often until the replacement comes.
At least I still have devRantron and the web app.12
Iphone 7, with everything you already had minus a port,
➕ some extra dollars,
because it's Apple bitch.7
Our professor once asked us to 'mess up' the functionality of a PHP script with one shell command for fun. People tried different things like occupying the port, messing with access rights etc.
My friend just wrote a 'sed' command to replace all the underscores with an empty space...😂
It goes without saying that he stole the show.2
How motherfucking difficult can it be to port forward something internally?!
I've been on this for fucking hours and I'm so fucking done with this shit.
I know I'm doing something wrong myself but I can't find a good resource 😠9
*Creates empty node web project in visual studio*
Let's have a look at the default configuration... Oh look the default port is 1337... Microsoft... Please stop trying to meme... Please1
I've spent three days trying to upload some code to my ESP8266 and it failed every time. Now I just plugged the Arduino at my Desktop and it works. Notebook USB port does not provide enough current I think.18
Setup my port honeypot today finally, including port 22, then wrote a custom dashboard for some data tracking, feels great to have it open on my screen seeing the bans just roll in every 2 seconds of refresh, the highest hits are as expected from china, russia and india, also filed ~700 reports and already got 300 banned from their service. (mainly Microsoft Azure for whatever reason)
I wanted to first automate that (or atleast blacklist report to various IP lists via API), but then I was afraid that I'll be one day stupid enough to somehow get banned - don't want myself to get reported lol5
First dev job: port Unix on Transputer, a (now defunct) bizarre processor with no stack, no registers and no compiler. That was fun! And that was in 1991 😎3
I spent about 5 hours rewriting an in company C# toolbox because I thought it's connection to a Web API was broken. 5 FUCKING HOURS.
Only to then see I was using port 80 for HTTPS...3
Okay, help :(
Trying to get my dns server in php to work from the outside (it's on a vm on one of my dedi's) but it's not working.
- Port forwarding works well: confirmed.
- Connection type: UDP; confirmed.
- I *can* dig from the host (dedicated server) to the vm.
- nmap scans show an open port.
The exact same happens on my local network.
So I just moved into a new apartment ... wait is the phone plugged to an ethernet port? ha didn't expect to have VoIP, so lucky6
Our site is hacked, and that is because the FTP port is open to the world!
Me: Well, it is a shared hosting platform, it has to be. You should instead update your 7 year old joomla! site.2
Putting SSH on another port and using fail2ban on the default one to ban everyone else trying to get in is a nice thing until you ban your own static ip by forgetting the new port...4
i was graphic designer but couldn't find a reliable frontend dev to implement stuff for my clients. So i decided to learn. Then i found fun in js, later on angular. Then i found node.js and this was FUN! so im a backend dev for quite a while now :-)3
Well that was a waste of my fucking time trying to port to the pixel 2 .-.
(Not a fucking hope would I ever be able to port something like that on my own tbh)21
A friend of mine and I decided we wanted to fork linux and port it to C++.
Sounds crazy yea, but there are many benefits:
1) More secure due to ability to use references
2) More sustainable due to the extensive standard lib
Not only would we port linux to C++, we would improve it as far as possible.
So now for the part of the rant where I misuse devRant as an advertizement platform. to those interested in helping, here is the poll where you can get included into the mailing list:
Today the IT deparment update the firewall's configuration, they blocked almost every website except email and Google.
- Blocked some systems outside the organization, there are in another building and also network
- I can search on Google but I can't see the results outside Google
- Forget about download depencies, libraries, deploy code to outside services, search at StackOverflow
I JUST WANNA SAY GOOD JOB, GUYS
PS: The firewall also block the SSH port, I had explained to my boss and he sent a request for allowing the port, so far no answer3
Oh look MS-DOS on GitHub?!
Time to run through more code I don't understand and see what I can learn and potentially port :-D1
Friend: Do you have a cable you can spare, so that I can charge my phone?
Me: Unless you have a type-c (port), yes.
Friend: No, I have Samsung.
Opened up my SSH port to the internet out of curiosity on a useless box.
Wow..... so, so many requests.18
Spent two hours debugging a port forward. Turns I entered 198.168.x.x instead of 192.168.x.x... Sometimes I barely bare with myself...3
MAD scientist time! Can the USB type C port on Nvidia RTX tuning card used as a standard USB port? Eg charging your phone, or read USB flash drive🤔36
just had a 3AM fucking brain blast
On the TI-8x line of calculators, you can do link port shit to essentially blit music to the barrel link port. However, the only library for this sounds like dick and is a superslow piece of shit.
I've just had a thought:
The library this dude wrote spaces the note out, waits for it to end and then resets the port.
If you're blitting music to the port rapid-fire, you don't need to reset it except either after the music or during rests. I can push a note with a waveform of 0hz to the link port to reset it, so...
The dude posted his source, so I could theoretically have it set the link port to whatever note and immediately return.
This would make the time between notes upwards of like 8x faster, bringing my sample rate from like 25 to 200 or so. That's almost fast enough for barely-recognizable voice synth! A little fiddling would be needed to get me the rest of the way there, but there's probably optimizations I can do to push the envelope some.8
Finally. My router got support for OpenWRT. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Lets grab that serial port and flash it.11
First year at university, prepared to set up multiple electronics.
rPi, arduino Ethernet shield, laptop, and desktop.
Brand new netgear switch to satisfy my internet surfing needs....
After setting up my devices, I realized none of them have internet. Hm. The feed port on my switch wasn't blinking either. So I tell the front desk, and a short 7 days later the port is back on. Yay, problem solved.
One morning I arise to see the port dark and inactive. Furious I use my laptop to share an internet connection while my actual port is "broken".
Support ticket is reopened and this time I get an email saying the port was disabled due to a security issue.
Me: what's the issue?
IT: there was more than two devices connected to the port
(OnLy TwO dEvIcEs PeR port???)
Me: oh okay I will only connect two.
The next day the port is disabled, again.
Me: can you tell me why it was disabled?
IT: a switch was detected being used, security error.
Me: how do I connect more than one device to the port without a switch???
IT: Please only connect one device.
Anybody's a father here? My 10 months kid is giving me hard times waking at 2am and not going to sleep till 4am (it is 4 now, here). That's a really repeating problem. I'm loosing my focus at work, tired after few hours of coding, couldnt mange to learn after hours. Makes me frustrated. My PM understands situation (actually he have 5 kids!), tries to help. But can't figure it out how to overcome this. Any ideas fellow dads in code? To make it clear - I really love my son, but if I'll fail to keep my level at job I could loose it one day, don't feel like beeing able to find new decent job with current exhaust level. Also I'm the only one who makes money in our lil family, loosing job for too long means loosing the roof under the head for all three of us. My wife is barely living after beeing there for son whole day, so please dont point at her. Our kid is really demanding on attention and love, and thats like a sweet poison. Love kills.22
Why do people want their webpages to be compatible with IE? Who cares? It is used by 1% to download a browser. Moreover, Edge is out. It's like writing a decent port or even a native game for Linux. Never pays off.9
When there is no WiFi internet
1.checking router connection
2. Opening the WiFi admin portal and checking the port and socket.
3. Open CMD and ping www.google.com
My dad: Just un-plug it and plug it again
- How do you think, could you port our app to iOS?
- Never did iOS apps, but I will learn and try, maybe I will became iOS dev
Fuck, I'm still supporting it
Dear Android devs, never come to the dark side! It's a nightmare4
Porting 8.1 to old device is really pain but thats nothing compared to whats to come.
Google annouced Project Treble and it does that vendor shit is on partition and init files are edited to make them load. Then you can run GSI (Generic System Image). When it was released all developers said that its impossible to bring support for it unofficialy. Then some guys on XDA ported it to Xiaomi phone. Great they proved almost entire XDA wrong. Great. Then few phones did the same. Amazing. Now almost any phone with good dev can be trebelized. Great. Well the device needs 400MB+ partition that is unused so that we can add vendor files there. Well its issue on my phone since i dont have that big unused partition. FUCK. Well i have 11.1GB Virtual SDcard partition. Hmmmm maybe i can resize that partition and create new partition of size 500MB to make it as vendor. OK great. Once thats solved then just copy them and done. WRONGGGGGGGGGGGGG. Its not that easy. First you need to make a script that places all device releated shit into vendor. OK thats easy. Then comes the hard part. Those vendor files have no fucking clue they are in not in system folder. So they start loading shit and ofcourse they will fail if they are not in system. Well most users think we are done thats its over. Its not. HEX editing comes to the rescue. You edit every single blob to make it compatible with vendor partition. OK after that hell pain you are almost done. Just edit init files and try GSI. It will probably fail to boot. Now you search logs for missing crap and slowly add that until it boots.
So this is ahead of me since i dont have 8.1 support yet. But once its done then im coming for you treble. Ohhhhhh how cool would it be to run android P on Xperia P ?
Sure you can skip treble porting but its better if you do it since it makes porting new android version soooooooo much easier.11
I setup an email server a couple of months ago.
The amount of port scans and brute force attacks I've received this month alone is awful.
JUST SOD OFF ALREADY, PLEASE.20
My grandmother started dating soon after granddad's death.
Death of Grandpa: fuser -k 80/tcp
Announcement to all programs, port 80 is now free8
I just had to explain to a web master and sys admin how ports work and how to access a router if they change the local port... God fucking help us8
Now I will defend USB-C untill my face turns blue and my mouth turns into a thunderbolt 3 port but fuck me some people complain about the stupidest shit when it comes to adapters...
Saw someone on twitter complaining because to get an ethernet port on his MBP... Only to notice he had purchased a USB-C to USB-A just so he can plug in a USB-A to ethernet...
Now maybe I'm thinking too logical but if you wanted an ethernet port, surely you would buy a USB-C to ethernet port and not seperate things to do the same job and then complain about it?
I can justify complaining about USB-C to auxiliary to some extent but for fuck sake I swear some people just get off on complaining about self inflicted issues -,-5
#Apple had just one non-proprietary port in their phones and they've removed it in #iPhone7.
Wonder how come they agreed to have USB-C in their latest notebooks.
Welcome to the expensive world of Apple.4
Hey, DBA guy! Security blocked this one port for the database. Can you change the database to a different port?
Me: No, I actually like working here.2
That feeling when you're finally able to reproduce a bug...
Now it's time to dig through the logs to see what actually happened.1
I just got pissed off when someone on my team asked me how to start a web server on port 8080 (needed for network port testing)
I check the port get 404. 🤔🤔🤔
Spend half an hour explaining to them about ports and how there's already a week server running... And that 404 is a HTTP Status code.
I'm pretty sure she works on our webapp and maybe even REST APIs...
New grad but still.... Not recognizing a 404?
Maybe those pretty 404 pages these days make the realizing that it's a fucking web server error response harder....4
After months of googling and troubleshooting my router settings trying to figure out why my port forwarding settings are not working only to realize that I'M BEING CGNATTED TO OBLIVION BY MY FUCKING ISP WITHOUT A FUCKING NOTICE!
Don't you love transferring server hosts and paying for a dedicated IP only to get given an IP that is already in use and forward it using the incorrect port .-.
i remember how my father was angry at me, that i "only play games" on the computer. Cause what else can you do there? We had multiple wars about how much nobody will i be. Well I wasn't playing I was learning. Now i have my own family, got many life goals done. i dont consider me as nobody but my father still thinks of me as a young boy, at least he's sometimes proud. Sorry guys gad to lay it off. :-)3

I had two teachers in school, who even after finishing the class, continued to program with interested students. For example programming a robot or communicating over the serial port of a computer using Java.2
I love one particular old game. It's called Port Royale (the first one). Why? Because the game crashes a lot. Players know that, devs knew that. It's so old and unknown to people who haven't played that devs don't even fix it. But, but... why do you write it here?
This game tought me autosaving! Yeah, they have autosaving in [5, 10, 15] minute intervals, but the game is so fast, that even a little change you do will cripple your whole economy. Not to mention the saving mechanism is partially broken (or that's what the log says, fml). By broken I mean it tries to autosave, but sometimes it crashes the whole thing, just because it can. A game with special effects - crashing in _intervals_!
Because of this lovely game I have a habit of saving and staging (or even commiting). Maybe they should be proud for making such a bug. Saved me once again a minute ago when I managed to crash Emacs with Python. :D1
This evening for curiosity i executed a nmap over my android phone expecting (like everyday) all port closed.
But i see
9080/tcp open glrpc
Let me check something....
And the first line provied me the UID of the app that was running on 9080 port (2378 in hex)
So let me check which app is that
$dumpsys package | grep -A1 "userId=*UID*"
And the answer is com.netflix.mediaclient
Why netflix is running a http server on 9080/tcp on and android phone??3
Finished writing a microservice in NodeJS. Wrote tests, had clever optimisations, did profiling, the works. Lead dev says to me on a Friday evening to port my code to Java in 2 days. (Reason: to standardize everything) #FML3
Does changing default SSH port really make server more secure? Most of scan apps (eg. Nmap) will find it anyway, won't they?5
Corporate IT blocks all network traffic, whitelists port 80 and 443 😡
... cos port number is the best predictor of security threats, amirite? 😒2
Fuck graphics cards for only providing 1 hdmi port and then 200 displayport connections. Like every of my monitors have one. Smh2
My colleague and I have been trying to setup a VPN server for devs who wanted to work from home. We asked our sysadmin (who's in another office in another country) to try connecting to the server. She replied after a while that she was unable to connect. We then asked her what port she tried connecting on and she replied, "No, I didn't use any port. I am connecting directly using the hostname".14
All sysadmins, PLEASE! For the love of God just block port 21 in any direction from anywhere, going anywhere.. FTP needs to die.. The f**king protocol predates tcp/ip for God's sake! We need to stop project managers using it, it's a nightmare!!9
Yesterday i realised the importance of documenting everything step by step . I was told to port an driver/application that we made for linux 4.1 to a 4.9 kernel . Eventhough i did already port another similar application to the same , didnt remember what are things that i did.. Thank God ..If not for the constant pestering of my colleagues to document each step.. I would have been stuck in that island for 2 more days ..1
Forget about a missing semicolon. I was forwarding Neo4j to port 4747 and calling it in Asp.Net with port 7474 in Docker containers. It took me 6 hours to figure that one out. Lol, It's time for the weekend.4
Yesterday I found a Fridge on Amazin which you plug into your USB Port. I really liked the product so I told my friend about it. Unfortunately she doesnt know shit about tech😂. First I had to explain what a fucking USB Port is!!! A USB Port! After an hour of explaining she thought that the fridge is for cooling a USB Port. FML😂😂10
So, I just setup a honeypot on my freshly installed Mint Laptop.
So many SSH connections, it's absolutely unbelievable. Can someone recommend me a good honeypot? I have only the SSH port monitored at the moment.8
Boss: We should port our internal finite element analysis software to an app. We could use phonegap!
Me: Sure... We'll look into that.
My mind: Nope. No. Never. Dear God. Why. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts...2
Made a new color scheme, and I really love using it for syntax highlighting.
Now I need to fucking port it to every single editor & terminal...5
About 1000 files left to compile on my Pie port for 2012 device. Now this is fucking amazing. API 28 and just the totally latest shit ohhhh this feels amazing.2
*sits at work*
Other dev has a problem, Visual Studio keeps crashing etc.
*Senior dev comes over*
asks what she's struggling with.
she explains it to him, saying it's possibly a port problem.
senior dev goes "ah, yeah that's just gonna take a second"
*senior dev sits down and rolls a new port with two actual dice*
I fucking died.5
Why would a modern laptop come with a VGA port when it also has an HDMI port? I've managed to get by without VGA for years, with better image quality too. What is the reason for this? Is VGA still so prevalent that you need a backup port just in case the projector you want to use is old school? Don't they make adapters for that?
I know this is inane, but it's literally putting me off a purchase12
The Turbografx 16 (or Turbografx PC-Engine in Japan) has the most amazing fucking expansion port I've ever seen. Every bus is exposed, plus sound out and IN (unused by anything ever made for the thing), composite out (not included on the console itself, but 3rd-party addons allowed it), VGA out (!!!) and CPU HALTING/CLOCK CONTROL were included over this fucking thing.
You can even power the system with 5v in through the expansion port and bypass the power switch with it.
Info and diagram:
To get composite out, send pin A22 out and ground the ground wire of the composite to any ground.
For VGA, it's a little more complex:
VGA1 to TG-A23, VGA2 to TG-B23, VGA3 to TG-C23, VGA9 to TG-A2, VGA13 (and VGA10 if you want compatibility with older displays) to TG-B11, VGA14 to TG-A10, VGA5-8 (and 10 if not hooked to TG-B11) to TG-C2
(VGA numbering from Wikipedia diagram)
this thing's fucking cool1
FUCK YOU VISUAL STUDIO! Fucking IIS site already running when restarting, reinstalling, checking port is open, checking past processes on that port, STILL NOTHING MOTHERFUCKER. Fuck I hate IIS.9
That level of satisfaction when you successfully port a Python2 Project to Python3 and implement proper backward-compatibility - without 2to3!
I tried setting up XAMPP for running my friends code.. it took 5hrs and faced atleast one issue in every step from installation to running.
1) XAMPP Did not download itself, found that internet was down.
2) downloaded finally, installation phase went till 98% fatal error, windows collecting info for diagnosis
5)after 3 tries , suddenly it installed successfully
6)Apache force shut, every time I started it
7)1.5 hours later found VM had occupied the port 80, making it shut.
Changed the port
8)PHPmyadmin was recent ,that SQL 5.1 support was not There.
9)Now after setting up new instance of MySql 5.6 , created conflict.
Project referred one instance and PHPmyadmin referred other
10) Changed port numbers and added service entry in windows to make it work
At last the struggle ended up with happy ending.
My installation story precisely
Iam new to PHP development and XAMPP.6
How the fuck do you do port forwarding on your Rasberry Pi without having to hack the NASA or subscribe to some obscure websites??? God fucking damn useless websites that can't agree on a fucking point9
I think I've reached peak boredom, can't work on my main project so I'm sitting here going through nano's C source code and planning to port it into C#...
Send help pls....3
interview from the other side. A month ago I was looking for frontend dev for team I lead.
Now I believe that it was a nightmare for one guy, whos bio was full of js, angular and a little of php. Thought that he will be the man we were looking for.
Nope. I've started with classic (I suppouse) questions, like call and apply difference. Guy couldn't even manage to say a word. Went to bubbling, nothing. Ok sth easier, hoisting... Maybe at least you're minifying your code? donno what is. Ok so what you actually did from js? "I know jQuery, did something in this, and did full angular app to build forms, store and send them", but after question what Factory is he covered his face in hands, went still for about three minutes and probably would start to cry but we stopped this. I feel sorry for this guy, but he applied for senior frontend position.9
How bad is it for a fortune 500 company to open port 22 over the internet for all its linux servers?? Today, I reported this to my boss and he said "it won't be a problem, no one can login without a password".10
An interesting perspective considering how much of their code could literally mean life or death.
we just created a new web dev team (3 months) and boss came to us, looked what frontend guy has done already (one guy who joined us month ago) and said "this is not how i imagined our platform. It should be working next month". Well how about providing anything to let us know what do you want? Well Im fighting now to get some brief at least ;)
Spending hours trying to figure out why the stack just won't work with SSL. Nearly lost my mind as we started feeling dumber than ever. I really started to doubt my skills after it did not even work with the most minimal nginx site config I could imagine.
The next day I discovered that we missed the 443 port mapping in the docker-compose file...it only had port 80 mapped.
Yup, stepping back from a problem and getting some sleep is really worth it sometimes.
FUCK YOU WORDPRESS wtffff with that shit , i can't use multisite if running in 8081 port ?, fuck you! your """ cli """, your media folder with that month and year stupid subfolders, your plugins and your fucking unit test running on a complete WP instance. GO FUCK YOURSELF! stop with that shit and remake all that shit.7
Never noticed this before, but it fills me with pure joy that I can homebrew another USB port onto my shit.3
Got a new project.
Since i got android 6 ported to my old phone and since ubuntu touch is based around 6.0 (i think) then lets port it.
I get really fucking mad, when people show termux and boast about "aai yuse leenox"
Use the real god damn GNU/Linux. If it is not available for your device then PORT IT! Like i did..13
I want to access a webpage on a non-standard port.
On desktop, I can override port bans for Chromium-based browsers and Firefox.
On Android, I FUCKING CAN'T, FIREFOX' CONFIG VALUE USED ON DESKTOP DOESN'T DO ANYTHING ON ANDROID, ANY OTHER BROWSER ALSO DOESN'T HAVE ANY CONFIG FOR THIS, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Site's on port 21 because that's one of my school firewall's few allowed outbound ports, and I couldn't use 80/443 since a webpage is already running there.11
I just love customers:
Customer: "ftps doesnt work! It says Port blocked you are using the wrong port! Fix this now!"
Me: "did you open the port and allow it through the firewall?"
C: " yeah ofc i opened the ports on the server! Do you think i'm stupid?"
M: "On the client too?"
C: " let me call back in 30min"
How to spend more time writing docs then code?

I made all configuration required
I reboot the server
I forgot which port I set for ssh 😭
Luckily I have console to access from 😅14
Here's something I'm sick of seeing: server software documentation that doesn't fully list what ports they are using. Too often I've read things like this: "AcmeServe uses ports 400, 8001, and 8002". Great, but why are you making me guess if those are TCP or UDP?
And sometimes it's: "AcmeServe uses ports 400 (UDP), 8001 (TCP), and 8002 (TCP)". Soooo, which ones do I port forward? Are you really going to make me have to use netstat -a to find out?
I can't understand the mentality behind that. They obviously realise you need to setup firewalls, but they half-arse it by only telling you the port numbers but not the protocol and/or if they're inbound/outbound.
Please, list what protocol the port is and if it's listening or outbound. Oh, and consider also mentioning where the port numbers come from in your config files, so I don't have to go playing a guessing game with a bunch of XML files should someone have overridden the default port numbers.1

So I suck at scripts, windows scripts namely. I need a script to monitor a program on machine and send an email if it goes down. There are eight instances running on the machine and they can be determined to be working if a specific port is open, one port per instance. I have no clue where to start and I thought it could be done with some existing service or script. Suggestions?10
Fuck off apache and ur fckinn 10 thousand different goddamn ports in use i can not start my python server bcz hhhhh too many processes use the main port and i need the main port to run the website
Tired of ur shit apache29
FOR FUCK'S SAKE
My verdict on display ports? From 1 to 10 10 being horrible as fuck I'd say it's about the same amount of times my fucking monitor went black and I almost had a siezure.
This may have nothing to do with programming but honestly, it fucking sucks. I've read so much online about how DP is better but no. I've never had a problem with HDMI, but HERE COMES ALONG THE MAGICAL DP. I was playing a FPS game and my left monitor went black over and over and I almost had a siezure. So I umplug the DP cable and my game fucking switches to my right monitor which is portrait mode, AND IT WASN'T EVEN SIDEWAYS GAMING... IT WAS PORTRAIT ON ONE FUCKING MONITOR... PORTRAIT.
I HAD TO PLAY THE REST OF THE GAME LIKE THAT. IN PORTRAIT MODE. THE DOOR FRAMES IN THE GAME WERE SO SKINNY IT LOOKED LIKE PAPER COULDN'T FIT THROUGH IT.10
New MacBook Pro: one type of connection port, no MagSafe, base drive is 256gb, and they killed off the goddamn physical esc key.
Apple you dumb.1
It took me an entire hour to figure out why my https gave me a Connection Refused error in my browser. Apparently I had configured port 433 to be published instead of 443, another hour wasted.
Hi everyone! (Specially pentesting masters!)
I got a question:
We all know the Nmap's abillity for detecting os using 1 open and 1 closed port,
Is there any way or method to detect os without any closed port ?(open ports exist)
Thanks alot 😃4
1. Port Linux to Brainfuck.
2. Make a some how object oriented Brainfuck fork.
3. Make IDE for #2, with completely random auto completion.1
So my MCU teacher said I should use a long ass ternary to determine which pins should be set high for a given number on a seven segment display. Cause the display was on a single 8-bit port on the mcu I decided to generate a bitmask with a switch statement and set the port directly.3
I asked for Razer blade 15 base model for work purpose, considering about Ethernet port and all... Then my boss ordered 2TB option. Should I have asked for advanced model from the start? 😕10

OpenCV is like an USB port: You never have the right input format and it only works after converting the damn thing multiple times!
Professor to the whole class: Apache tomcat runs on port 80 which is the same port used by skype
Me: (change the port of tomcat to something else, obviously)
Professor: Kill Skype
F**k this. Exactly The same site is displaying differently. Only thing changed? On left access is by local IP, on right by URL using no-ip.
Apparently it grabs CSS from project on another port7
Talking to a vendor in China to source some hardware modules. The engineers don't speak any English, and the sales rep doesn't know a serial port from a monkey's ass. Shortest game of Chinese whispers 😥4
my co-worker (data entry) doesn't know what an hdmi looks like... so she's brining in her laptop tomorrow for me to tell her which port is hdmi so she can hook it up to her tv at home
She's only in like her 40's so that seems kinda weird to me she doesn't know what an hdmi looks like I showed her the hdmi on my computer and she thought it was the 'jump drive' port8
Ngl, I'd probably become one of those guys that tries to port DOOM onto things, or maybe maintain some old repos. Maybe fuck around and actually write a unit test idk1
Hey so.. I do alot of work using Ableton Live 9 Intro but I am also switching to either Ubuntu or arch.. great, that's fine. One problem tho.. there is no Linux version for Ableton. Does anyone have a working steup for Ableton on Linux? If so would you mind sharing it with me?2
Just got into project with 2 sony developers on making "dirty" LineageOS port over sony AOSP.
Hmmmm did i just make it boys ?
As they would say in cyberpunk 2077.
We are going to the major leagues boys.
How to screw with other developers?
Expose postgres at Port 5435.
I spent 15 mins trying to figure out why my dev machine doesn't connect to the RDS instance.
When a fellow programmer/teammate, who tends to be a little to extroverted for my tastes, decides he had nothing to do for the last hour and wants to come talk. An hour and a half later it finally makes sense to just call it a day.
Since my ISP doesn't allow port forwards on that port, does anyone want to open their port 445 (if not otherwise occupied by Microsoft-DS) and have netcat reply an empty string or so any request (such as an empty string) sent over TCP (or has anyone already done so)? It would help me out a lot with testing out some networks full port range (since portquiz.net's hoster blocks that port) and would take close to no bandwidth for you.6
Just sitting around waiting for a 220GB Database to import, if I had a spare PCI-E port I could have used a 240GB NVMe PCIe SSD but now I have to use an old Seagate 500gb HHD. Gonna be a while.5
Why do people think Perl's outdated?
Until Python/Ruby get a port of Keyword::Declare Perl's niche stays unquestioned.7

How to make a sys explode
1. Ask to configure an e-mail
2. Ask the pop and imap port
Really....u serious ?
me: block all in&put connection
me: open port 22 for local network
me: enable firewall
me: restart pi
firewall: allow me connect
me: open port 80 for local network
me: open port 443

I spent the last 2 days, my father's birthday, and my birthday working on a bug for the game in developing for mobile. And I've done everything to try and fix it. Optimize the vertices, deleted assets not in use, organized all my assets into separate folders, and you know what. Fuck it. If "app not installed" I'm going to port it to PC.
!!THE WORLD IS COMING APART!!
How in gods name did Putty manage to map a SSH tunnel to port 83306 and MySQL Workbench just didn't care and worked?!?!3
We need to log out phone calls in and outlet of the company
How we wanted to do it:
Use node.js to read the serial port from the phone system then store the data into the MsSQL database
1) Read serial port
2) store in local MySQL database
3) every 3 minutes create a CSV file containing the last 3 minutes of calls and store on a Windows shared directory
4) have a access 2000 programme collect these files every 30 minutes
5) insert into MsSQL database1
Not really hacking, but every time I work from home(a couple times a week), in lieu of using my company's VPN, I connect to the company network with an SSH reverse tunnel. To make this possible, I wrote a port knocker that runs in a tmux session on a server inside the network. It tries to connect to a high-numbered port on my home machine, and if successful it opens the reverse tunnel. At home, I manually run a script that opens that port and informs me when the reverse tunnel is established.
Then I open an SSH socks5 proxy and use that in my Firefox dev edition, which I use entirely for work.
This is actually much easier than using the actual VPN.
Finally set up my home server and port forwarded it so I can use linux everywhere even as a window pleb.
Now just to make a solution for not having a static IP address...2
So last year I sent my PC to get a motherboard replacement, as I couldn't be arsed replacing it or even research what motherboard I should get(was dealing with more urgent personal matters).
Anyway, I get it back and everything works good but not the front USB port.. I always found it weird, but also didn't bother to open the case and double check, so I let it go and assumed, since the motherboard was fried, that the USB wires were faulty.
Time passes by and I decide to open the case for annual cleaning job... Turns out the motherfucker didn't connect the port, why?? Fucks knows why... Obviously the wires were "short" and he didn't even try to pull it out further!!! You little piece of shit, for a full year I've been living with a missing usb port, the fucking front facing mother fucking usb port. Fuck.
Moral of story? Don't be a lazy ass and fix your shit on your own!4
got a new macbookpro with my new job. awesome. but no usb port so i need a dongle to use my good mouse.
my solution: pickup the dongle myself from down the street and expense it
company solution: order it through complicated website, wait for 3 people to approve it, and wait 4+ weeks for it to come in (still waiting)
I hacked port authority administration computers using enable Bluetooth flip phone ,then I changed background pic in all computers on network, and put an mp3 song on startup folder, turn volume to the max, gues the rest, they were using window xp ,and told their manager she gave me a job on spot , and was very interested, and that where my journey begun
The company I work in had to build a software that establishes a connection to a MySQL database running on an external server. It doesn't work for the client company because the firewall is very restrictive and only lets through connections on port 80, so we had to build a fucking http server that forwards SQL queries to the MySQL server and returns the result. This is so horrible!
(Running MySQL on port 80 isn't an option as any other connection type than http is blocked by the firewall)8
Trying to port a legacy Firefox add-on I didn't write to WebExtension. Failing so amazingly...
Vague explanations, no tutorials. Mdn has a nice documentation but no tutorials. What's up with that??
I'm running a 4K monitor on my ThinkPad T470P with Display Port. I'm getting quite a bit of latency/lag. Anyone happen to know why?12
When the ops team needs to go through a 5 step "protocol" over a couple of days, just to open a damn port in the firewall, so that our CI server can access the local GitLab server..
Seems like the migration of the last couple of projects from SVN to Git is going to take a little longer than I expected..
Not a rant, but may prevent millions of rants later. Also not spam.
Just found out someone built a "syntax database" so you can search for the proper syntax. Currently supports nine languages plus api support for additional integration.
I manage the infrastructure of an application. Responsible for setup, maintenance and upgrades of all the associated servers, databases, filesystems and tuning. The business area is responsible for maintaining the content and structure of the app.
A couple of weeks ago, the business area started asking me for the system admin passwords in an attempt to integrate a remote service. The reason was because he didn't want to store his own credentials in Jenkins. Imagine the shock when they were told no.
Then a week ago, they asked for the password again so they could update a properties file. Again, the answer was no.
We sent them an email yesterday asking for their change management number so we could make the change to the properties file. They were absolutely shocked to find out that we hadn't already updated the file because they had already deployed their code changes to go with the properties file last Thursday. They submitted the request to us on Friday.
Getting real tired of people screwing up and pointing the finger back at me.
Forgot to add build.prop to ported rom. I guess, that is the problem why it is not booting up.. :/1
This more of a tifu but to be short and concise..
4 months into the job, still learning the hang of docker, exposed a critical port that collided with a node, crashed our entire internal docker ecosystem. What a day...
Ohhh update on the LineageOS16. Everything works. So this weekend im doing full port of LineageOS17. Sure its a dirty port since im just basically taking SODP (Sony Open-Source Device Project) sources and using them in LineageOS sources so it has to work kind of but its still a port of custom ROM thats usable. And well since LineageOS17 is getting to the stage that more and more roms are getting out on XDA then well i will do the same.3
People need to fucking shut up about this MacBook Pro port shit. They're moving all their ports to one unified port that has a standard interconnect that people have been wanting on Android phones and other machines since USB C was announced. Shut the fuck up and notice that it's changing for the better.12
Unbelievable. 14 out of 16 runs of integration tests errors unexpectedly with no error message, port was already used (not released from last cycle) or timed-out in the before all hook. Well done whoever wrote this suite!
postmarketOS port day uhmmmmmmmmmmmm 3.
Surprisingly to get a port of it you just need kernel which is hella awesome. What isnt awesome is the boot image of the 2012,2013 sony devices.
This is gonna get technical. If you dont care about it just skip it.
So sony decided that using ELF format for boot image is good idea. And TBH they were kinda right. ARM processor after all can execute ELF natively and work efficiently. Whats the issue then you might ask. Well kinda simple. Normal AOSP boot images are not ELF format. (They kinda are but arent at the same time. Lets just say they contain ELF image at some point). This is of course the google way. Overenginner everything you can.
So why is the ELF image format the issue ? Well to produce this elf image you need special script provided by sony that can make ELF format boot image that you have to compress properly afterwards. OK this sounds OK so whats the issue ? AOSP or well android sources do not support this out of the box. What we need to do is to create a custom way of creating that boot image. Which isnt hard but is just extra unneeded work.
Now when you flash the image it all works as expected.
But what happens if the format isnt right ?
Device will just show blank screen and reboot and so on forever (Or well until battery dies).
Why it cant boot other images is kinda self explanatory. Its different format. OK so it wont boot anything other then custom boot image OK.
Now what does postmarketOS (PMOS from now on) do ?
Well it creates basic AOSP bootimage with custom ramdisk. Which is all fine on most devices. Except here of course.
So that wont boot.
You may just say why dont you just convert it ? Well it isnt that easy. Each elf file has its own header. Which is for that kernel and etc. If it doesnt match eyyyy no boot. So we cant just convert it that easily.
Why not just use the script ? One could do that of course. ( i have not yet done that as its almost midnight and i have test tomorrow). Issue here could be that it still doesnt boot which would mean that something else is wrong. It will most likely work tho. (hopefully)
What i would need now is UART. (Yes phones have UART if you didnt know)
What is that ? Way to communicate and debug the kernel when something is wrong to the point where nothing works. Issue is my UART to USB converter is who knows where and the new one isnt going to be here that soon.
Thats all for now i guess. Long one i know. But well that is the behind the scenes of those kind of things. It isnt as simple as one may think sadly.
It woudlnt be my first and sadly not even last time i would get PM saying to hurry the development or some other shit like that. (Yes people are like that). And when you get issue it isnt as easy as opening duckduckgo and searching it as most likely it will return something which is far from what you are doing.
So if you are that kind of person that sends PMs to devs on XDA to hurry the development or asking when its gonna be done. STOP. Please just stop. We have real life too (I know its hard to believe but well its there) and doing this isnt the only thing we do. Its gonna be done when its gonna be done. And i hope this is gonna at least put some perspective for those people to not send those kinds of messages to us. (We read them. We just dont reply to shit)
TL;DR Sony decided to use different format of bootimage on 2012/3 devices which is pain to generate properly.2
This day is off to no good... :(
First l forget the ssh port to my mail server and now i realized that tomorrow is the last day the server is up. I need to add more credits but i literally have 2 cents on my bank account :(1
I try to take print using elementary os. I have connected the printer usb port but in printer settings it is not showing up the printer name.what I need to do.14
console(config)#ip ssh port 22
InCorrect Port-Number : Port-Number Should be in the Range <1025 - 65535>
I was under fire right now.
One cellular company, Idea, whose Internet service works really good, was blocking port 22.
And other, BSNL, which works terrible at my home, and is not working recently, since last few days( Maybe be data pack was over ), atleast support port 22.
Just got the call from client who has to send sms to all its clients, immediately. So BSNL was not working. And Idea was not supporting port 22.
Still, I gave IDEA Cellular, a try, and luckily it worked today. They started supporting port 22, at the right time.
My ASS is Saved
These god damn idiots!11!!
Why, for duck sake, php-fpm and xdebug are using the same standard port 9000?
There are thousands of different ducking ports you could choose from!
So each developer who wants to debug his php app served by php-fpm, has to adjust the port for xdebug on something like 9001 or 10000.
Is there any good linux application to send FUCKING RAW data to a serial port?
Port in question: /dev/ttyACM0
Baud (nice if configurable): 9600
I want to send specific binary data. I want to send 0b00110011 or something like that to it, not some character or a hex value.27
fucking web hosts blocking all SMTP ports outgoing, forcing me to use PHP mail from their shitty blacklisted IP's.
Since I can't use a web api to send the mail Iended up setting up my home server to forward port 53 back out to the mail server, alot of hassle to get mail working :(14
Is there any way to connect 2 screens to a hp linux laptop (having only 1 HDMI port and no type c) ?11
Has anyone worked with IP cameras? I just got a job for tech support for a company that deals with IP Cameras and they are going to have me doing network port forwarding. Any help and suggestion ?5
It's gonna be fun but when I was 13yo I learned programming just to control my bedroom lights with my computer, and I achieved it, using python and the parallel port (printer)
Then I realized that I was too simple a finished doing some music controlled lights 😂😂
Class: 'The Root Port is the one with the lowest ID. Therefore 1 is the Root Port'.
Test: 'Why is 'A' the Root Port?'
What!? Thats not a ID, thats not even a number.2
Trying to clear the redis cache for like half an hour, wondering why the redis server isn't even being filled with keys...
Then suddenly, FUCK wrong port
2:30 AM is too late for me apparently :(
I have to take UDP and add packet ordering, filter in, and resend and some form of handshake, because client couldn't figure out how to change the port from UDP to TCP and refused any help2
After doubting Deepin OS for 4 days and slangs to Windows, it turns out, ISP is blocking the port 22, which is why I was not able to communicate to my instance through SSH.
One of the major Cellular company and Fastest 4G in the whole country, 'Idea', is blocking the vital port 22. The same company promoted it's Internet service through chain of adv. calling it's Cellular Internet network, "Idea Internet Network (IIN)". Only to make it sound like IIT, IIMs ( elite indian colleges). Check on YouTube, IIN, if available3
Do we have vfio enthusiasts here?
Now that I made my second GPU boot into Arch Linux (inb4 I use arch, btw. jokes in the comments), I also set up a windows vm with GPU passthrough.
When I plug the monitor cable into the hdmi port of my passthrough'd GPU, I can see windows os on the screen.
My problem is that I want to have it inside of the same monitor without changing the from hdmi port to hdmi port manually, but "softwarely" (neologism ftw).
I read about looking-glass in the arch wiki (I use arch, btw. + On a serious side note though, I really like the arch wiki. It is very straightforward.), but I could not get it to synchronize with the Spice display server.
Does someone know how the solution to this problem?6
Follow up to my previous rant ( https://devrant.com/rants/1680373/... )
I've contacted digital ocean support and asked them about that blocked port. They said that they didn't block it and that I must've messed up with configuration. The thing is, when I set postfix to port 2525 it works perfectly fine and I can connect no problem. Will see how they respond to that...4
Is there any multi server monitoring software that doesn't open a port for itself? I am about to just write one, but it's fucking annoying that theres nothing like it out there, where you just install a service per server, that uploads its data (cpu, ram etc) to a central server without opening itself to the whole fucking internet.4
well, my father told me that I need a real job. And you can only play games on computer. Well after more than 10 years when I have 8yrs of professional exp now Im earning enough and my father dont know what to say.2
When your new upgrade process looks like it will save you a few hours of time. After 18 hours and scrapping the improved process we've finally got the green light.
So our company has been talking about bringing in the full Atlassian suite (JIRA, Bamboo, Bitbucket, Fisheye and Crucible). Anyone familiar with using the entire suite? Just wondering what kind of hell to expect.13
Hmm. My wireless mouse stopped working when I connected my phone to the USB port.
Solution: have phone fully charged before connecting it.1
Intel management engine pwned over USB
With everyday that passes, this Intel ME rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper.
The good news is that no one can connect. The bad news is no one can connect. PSA dont change the RDP port while have a drink. Was it 9833 or 9988 haha
A backdoor means an open port so...
If anybody in including the admin checks the open port he will definitely notify the port and probably will close that port so...
Maintaining access means nothing?8
Fuckin' windows 10, cannot check my mining rig's hashrate API, because for whatever fucking reason it decides to block port 10555 in spite of me specifically opening it in the inbound/outbound rules.
How to download anything in Kiwix flatpak version?
Also: Why are desktop versions almost unusable these days.
Are devs not owning desktops anymore?!4
Spent 4 FUCKING HOURS to solve a connection issue on my Ubuntu Server only to get a call after said time from the server provider that they installed an firewall and blocked my fucking port. WHY ????2
Surface3 and the single USB port does not work anymore... no mouse, no external keyboard useable. interesting :/
All I want to do is open 1 fucking port... Why does my router have to make this so fucking difficult!25
Spent a couple hours trying to obtain an SSL certificate to encrypt my site last night... No luck so far. It kept saying it doesn't have access, when I verified that nginx serves to port 443...20
Worked on a project where for three month had not even a single task. First week was a nightmare, later on ive lost hope and decided to learn something fancy. So in the end it was fun.
hate to create huge one timers. got to build huge migrate tool (luckily there its not thousand of users) to migrate from mysl to mongo, then to upload assets properly at place. Its also got to be a new api test. Which also i wrote.(the api). Eveything is fine except the time. They wanted me to finish two days ago and i almost got it. But my head is about to explode and code is messy...
Nothin more annoying than fixing the lightning port on an iPhone... charging works.. mobile signal drops out sporadically!!!! Fuuuuuck!!!
Since new iPhones don't include headphone jack port, instead use single Lightening port.
All that I can find on the internet is headphone jack to lightening adapter, but I want THE OPPOSITE.
I want to use my lightening headphones on regular jack port.
Why is that very difficult to find?6
I'm trying to port that Python project (https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/) to Java without even knowing how to print "Hello world". That's going to take a long long time6
Why the heck can't a Dell display (or even better a daisy chain of them) be connected through a Dell docking station to a Dell laptop via Display Port? Seems like they should be compatible after all.3
! rant and also sorry if duplicate.
Just a shout out the devRant team and devRant community! Just found this article on FossBytes -- http://fossbytes.com/devrant-releas...3
It's so funny when you try to run some commands in bash under windows 😆😆😆. It's a very old port of bash v1.14.23
thoughts on the Apple Magic Mouse? is it worth it if you use a Mac for work? I'd definitely get a generation old one where the charging port isn't on the fucking bottom if I were to get one lmfao6
I’d wrote some node js for simple web service. And when I learned typescript at first, I couldn’t find any reason to port these into typescript. And I replace old koa framework into nest js.
Just out of curiosity...
Is there a way to prevent a DDoS attack using settings in the Router? Like, changing the DNS Port to maybe 54 because most people just spam 53 with random packets?5
I want to do ssh is from outside the network. But I'm unable to do it. Very much frustrated. Has anyone tried it successfully?7
Anyone from Sweden? I found an engineer position I want to apply for, but was curious about things like quality of life and such.12
I just read about the Thunderbolt port vulnerability but it seems that port is interchangeable with USB C, just faster? But basically any USBC ports are vulnerable then? Or just the rounded ones like on phones?
Normal USB 3 rectangular ports on PCs are fine?5
I just wish phone manufacturers would put the charge port on the back of the phone instead of on the sides. Don't they know everyone rests the phone on their chest in bed? It would also solve the problem of replacing knackered cables.9
Who uses the Virtual Serial Port Driver (http://virtual-serial-port.org) to create virtual ports?
Who has any analogs?1
I wish there was more support for porting Ubuntu mobile.
I wish I was experienced enough to port it myself(at least to my phone)2
Junior Dev: Today I'm porting my (TDD'd) C++ code to C# but having loads of issues.
Me: You should throw away the code, port the tests across and write the code again.
Junior Dev: I think I'll just keep doing what I'm doing.
Me: *triple face plant*
whenever I want to explain quantum physics to someone I simply ask them to attempt to plug a dongle into both and observed and unobserved usb port.1
I've been trying to setup a mail server on my vps. Postfix is setup fine, I can send and receive mail with SSH, but I couldn't connect any mail client to the server. After a couple reinstalls, following a million tutorials, I finally found the reason.
The fucking reason was that fucking digital ocean FUCKING BLOCKS THE FUCKING PORT 25 BECAUSE FUCKING SPAMMERS ABUSED IT.
Switched postfix to use port 2525 instead and everything works as it should.
Fucking digital ocean, I swear I wouldn't use it if I didn't get free 50 dollars from github student pack.
On a side note, can anyone recommend a cheap vps provider that doesn't block ports?1
Today wasted around 5 hours installing nginx, apache stills working and keeping listen on 80 port after uninstalling it reboot finally the thing was i dont change the fucking dns of the server and trying to connect to the domain 5 hours later tried to connect to the ip... Fuck my life1
Is there a cloud service that does nothing but redirect incoming HTTP requests to your home server without the need to have a static IP or an open TCP port ? Sort of like proxy2
actually it wasn't mine. But it affected me. So we had a project website on wordpress and wanted to rewrite the theme. everything went well to the Point of production. Site is fine locally, at testing and on stage. On production we still see old, a bit broken old version, but only on homepage. Wtf. Nothing helped. After couple of hours later we found out, that the admin was updating php version and he left html shot at production, which was taking over.
Any opinion about cheap hosting? Im currenty at transip for dns but i want a small server with open port config or docker suport10
I’ve a raspberry pie 3B.
The pi boots up with the OS previously installed on it, theHDMI port works perfectly,
The problem is , I can’t get the USB ports to work, nor does the LAN port works. And the wifi also doesn’t connect automatically donno why , not sure if the wifi wasn’t setup or the chip is gone bad, just need to know what I can do with it4
Is it possible to automate connecting new chromecast to wifi for the first time ?
I am interested in program that will detect new device and configure it.
It could also work by connecting new chromecast to computer usb port.
Anyone seen something like that ?4
Have any devs found any interesting projects with a cars OBDII port. I've seen some arduino shields and libraries for it. Curious if anyone has any cool ideas.1
I'm tasked to set up a small network with a Cisco router and switch. The router only has one FastEthernet port but it's okay because VLAN trunking is a thing. So I go through each config, set up an IP addressing scheme, SSH, DHCP, VLAN's and secure each device. I go to setup trunking on the port connecting the switch to the router and find out the switch doesn't support encapsulation (required for trunking)... Oh and because it's uni equipment I'm not allowed to update the IOS on the switch. Fml2
Ive got a nes that does not work it appers that it is not dettecting the cart. Ive tryed blowing out the port with a compressor but that did not work. Any other sugestions?3
Looking to play around with Xamarin - probably a 2d game - wondering what graphics library to start on. I have done some projects before with jmonkey (open GL for java).
Cocosharp looks to be unmaintained. Monosharp has some advocates at my workplace. Or there is a port of Google's skia. Any thoughts?1
Is there any way I can push a service to internet via something like p2p? My current internet is in a ip pool thus I cannot open a port to world.
Also I'm searching through internet too. Keep lmgtfy away now.10
So I a using the ssh installed with git on Windows.
I am trying to forward a port on my internal network server which is also my ssh server. I have exposed my network server on a forwarded port on my router. When I try to forward using this command I get a connection reset on my web service on my server.
ssh -nNT -p <port on router> -L 8000:192.168.0.22:8000 <sshuser@router>
I can log into ssh normally. So I am really confused. the 192.x.x.x address is the internal ip of the server. On a browser I try to connect to the 127.0.0.1:8000. It says the connection is reset. I assume it is being refused. So it tries to connect to something, but it fails.
I can connect to the web server from within the internal network via 192.168.0.22:8000. Really confused as to what is failing here.7
Any ideas as to what I can do with a 24 port network switch that I salvaged out of an electronics dump?
It's only 100 Mbit though4
nodejs dev, how do u remove port number from url, i'm startimg to like nodejs, but port number in url is luke marks on the moon 😠
ps i did google n SO but nothing worked3
Not best practice whatsoever because the box was most likely owned, but...
SSH kept defaulting back to port 22 when it wasn't supposed to. So, wrote a cronjob that checked diff between SSH config and backed up SSH config. If different, reload backup. Didn't get locked out again.
Box has of course been replaced.2
Why the fzck do you release new features in your engine and change how port-mapping works but don't make your deployment tool compatible? I look at you docker!
started to learn vi. Well, options are amazing, way it works is amazing. But those shortcuts are so goddam not intuitive. Why the heck ce is remove word and insert?!3
so yesterday i was manualy checking if endpoint works as suppoused to (there was a bug before). And nothing changed, so I deeply checked everything, refactored a bit and sent request again. Nothing changed! Breakpoints does not work. WTF! After one hour realised that I was sending requests to dev server not localhost :-( now it works fine.
When debugging/troubleshooting, what does your desktop look like?
I have a total of 8 production environments to look after, each of which have their appropriate dev environments. Troubleshooting for me typically starts with VisualVM, 6-8 Putty sessions across the environments, at least one dbms session, WinSCP with at least 4 sessions, text editor with minimum of five open files and at least thirty tabs open in Chrome. Oh yeah, forgot outlook and Skype (typically with at least three team mates and usually a group chat).
All is well when I'm in the zone, but good forbid for someone to ask me to show them the article/bug report I just read that sent me down the rabbit hole.1
I'm pretty anti-apple but it's clear that the 3.5mm jack and the standard USB port is going to go. Other manufacturers will be using only type C very very soon. BT > 3.5mm and everything will use type C USB.6
Not so tech savvy family member just asked for the router password to set up a network printer. I just hope they don't fuck up my settings (ip's and port forwarding and such) o_O
The WiFi/Bluetooth chip in my SP3 died. Now I have to plug in this stupid adapter in my only USB port. So, that being said...
Ranters, best 2-in-1 convertible laptop, go!5
Can anyone recommend a docking station with multiple hdmi and/or display port ports für Linux laptops?3
Just finished creating a new git repository for my modules (we're using microservices)
Guess what, i misconfigured the socketmaster and the apps port
So the socketmaster run on :9000 meanwhile my apps run on :8888
Spend a good 1 hour to find that problem
I fucking hate Ops!!!
I spent the fucking day trying to understand why the fuck the AZURE the firewall blocks me on port 8000 while i let me pass on port 8001.... men i hate "not" having an ops....
I already searched for a while and couldn't find a viable solution.
I setup a service with docker-compose, and published it on port 80.
However port 80 is only published on ipv4 networks, not ipv6.
How can I make docker publish the service on ipv6 networks as well.1
Windows why do I need to explicitly tell you in a firewall rule to allow port 80 to allow someone in the same NAT as me which is set to a private network to access the web server?4
