Goddamn I'm retarded to the next level.
Rebooted my phone a few days ago, some stuff didn't work well anymore and I'm looking for a new one which supports custom roms but I shouldn't spend too much right now so I thought I'd let it go for now.
Rebooted again last night and the network time wouldn't set properly so set it manually. Today I suddenly noticed that any app/page loading through a secure connection wasn't loading at all.
This to the goddamn point that my phone was becoming useless.
Started to search for a quick, cheap replacement supporting custom roms while debugging on and on.
I just (now) looked at the date and BAM, it hit me: I set it to one month earlier.
Mother of god I'm stupid. Brain fart to the max.14
"Europe to make it illegal to change the OS on radio devices like smartphones, routers and embedded devices."
I don't know what to say anymore32
After a little I'm having huge issues with my new phone. No custom ROMs available.
Fuck this shit I'm going to try to port another Mediatek based ROM to my phone tonight.
I'd rather get a bricked device than working with this piece of shit vendor made android system.
The phone itself other the the software is very good though!
Umidigi programmers, go fuck yourselves.19
All respect to android (love the system (no, that doesn't mean that I love google)) and also to awesome custom roms (hell even some vendors make quite good ones imo!).
BUT WHO THE FUCKING HELL THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF ALARMS YOU CAN HAVE TO 15 OR EVEN LIMIT IT AT ALL?!?
I HAVE TO GET UP AT 3:30 FOR WORK EACH NIGHT AND THIS IS *NOT* HELPING.
THE PERSON WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA CAN TAKE A PHONE, OPEN THAT DEFAULT CLOCK APP AND SHOVE IT UP HIS FUCKING ASS.26
Oh fucking Huawei.
- Honor 6x (BLN-L22C675)
- Has EMUI4.1 Marshmallow
- Cousin brother 'A' (has bricking XP!)
- Uncle 'K'
- Has Mac with Windows VM
- Stock as LineageOS / AOSP
Procedure (fucking seriously):
- Find XDA link to root H6X
- Go to Huawei page and fill out form
- Receive and use bootloader code
- Find latest TWRP
- Flash latest TWRP
- TWRP not working? Bootloops
- XDA search "H6X boot to recovery"
- Find and try modded TWRP
- TWRP fails, no bootloop
- Find & flash TWRP 3.1.0
- Yay! TWRP works
- Find and download LineageOS and SuperSU
- Flash via TWRP
- Yay! Success.
- Attempt boot
- Boot fails. No idea why
- Go back to TWRP
- TWRP gives shitload of errors
"cannot mount /data, storage etc."
- Feel fucked up
- Notice that userdata partition exists,
but FSTAB doesn't take
- Remembers SuperSU modded boot
image and FSTABS!
- Fuck SuperSU
- Attempt to mod boot image
- Doesn't work (modded successfully
but no change)
- Discover Huawei DLOAD
Installer for "UPDATE.APP" OTAs
Note: Each full OTA is 2+ GB zipped
- Find, download, fail on 4+ OTAs
- Discover "UPDATE.APP Extractor"
Runs on Windows
Note: UPDATE.APP custom format
Different per H6X model
- Uses 'K''s VM to test
- My H6X model does not have
a predefined format
- Process to get format requires
TWRP, which is not working
- FAIL HERE
- Discover "Firmware Finder"
Windows app to find Huawei
- Tries 'K''s VM
- Fails with 1 OTA
- Downloads another firmware ZIP
- Unzips and tries to use OTA
- Boots successfully?!
- Seems to have EMUI 5.0 Nougat
- Downloads, flashes TWRP
- TWRP not working AGAIN?
- Go back to XDA page
- Find that TWRP on EMUI 5 - NO
- Find rollbacks for EMUI5 -> EMUI4
- Test, fail 2-4 times (Massive OTAs)
- DLOAD accepts this one?!!!
- I HAVE ORIG AGAIN!!!
- Re-unlock and reflash TWRP
- Realise that ROMs aren't working on
EMUI 4.1; Find TWRPs for EMUI5
- Find and fail with 2-3 OTAs
Note: Had removed old OTAs for
space on Chromebook (32GB)
- In anger, flash one with TWRP
instead of DLOAD (which checks
- Works! Same wasn't working with
- Find and flash a custom TWRP
as old one still exists (not wiped in
- Try flashing LineageOS
- LineageOS stuck in boot
- Try flashing AOSP
- Try flashing Resurruction Remix
- Realise that need stock EMUI5
- Realise that the firmware I installed
wasn't for my device so not working
- FUCK NO MORE LARGE DLs
- Try another custom TWRP
- Begin getting '/cust mounting' errs
- Try reflashing EMUI5 with TWRP
- Doesn't work
- Try DLOADing EMUI5
- Like before, incompatability
- DLOAD EMUI4
- Reunlock and reflash TWRP
- WRITE THIS AS A BREAK
When you know they are going to curse you like "rom is unstable... you broke my phone" so you deal them like this 😂2
(Dev)Life in the past 12 hours
Oh boy have the last 12 hours been a roller coaster ride for me. Noob me decided to "compile" AoSP for my device to get a taste of how custom ROMs are built from source. Overall it was fun but the errors were a very good excercise for googling, SO. Couple stuff I learnt ( possibly useful for anyone who comes here )
* The shebang line ( #!/usr/bin/env python ) on my system translated to Python 3.7 environment instead of the expected Python 2.7. Best solution I think to avoid confusion is to create a python 2.7 environment and source it.
* Get your trees right. A jar file called WfdCommon.jar ( apparently known as wifi-display common ) was the cause of several hours of hunting the fault. My vendor tree somehow didn't have this file so dex2oat was borking out like mad. I'm still amazed how I figured this one out almost by myself. ( Basically I had to check every file included in the boot class path, and find the odd one )
* I wasted a lot of time in finding the right files to change version numbers and all. Maybe I didn't search XDA properly for a guide ?
Overall it was a fun experience. Also if anyone's experienced in this area could you share resources to learn more about custom ROM development? Specifically on the tweaking part where you mix features from different ROMs to make a great ROM ( like AoSP extended or Pixel Experience ). All I could find were on the zips and not on sources.10
I got interested in Linux through using custom Roms and kernels on my phone.
And now I want to learn more about it.
Any advice will be appreciated4
I was at some excursion from school to university about game development and shit. Basically they talked about what unity and unreal is. Like totally not copied from their page. WOOOOW (Huge sarcasm if you didnt get it)
And then we tested VR.
Then presentation about passwords.
He gave out USBs for some good questions.
I had a question about something and got one.
Then he asked about android and what do we do when OEM doesnt support the device anymore.
I told him about custom ROMs.
He said yeah but you never know if the person who build it didnt infect it.
Well i told him that the builds i use are 100% safe.
How do you know tho ?
I build them myself.
The face was just amazing and got another USB.
They were to install Kali on it or just linux.
I always have OTG cable with me so i pluged it into OTG and WTF is this crap ?
Fuck i cant even install Ubuntu on that and dont even think about Kali. Like LOOOOOOL
They are huge university and to give out 2Gb USB is really sad.
If it was 4Gb OK i can at least use that with Ubuntu or Kali. With this crap i cant do shit.
Maybe i will just use it as password key. Basically log in key.5
Why: well it's built on Linux kernel so first good thing.
Due to open source everyone can get cheap (under $50) smartphones running on Android with millions of app to access. We can create custom ROMs.
Your one app can target billions of people around the world and so much more...
PS: half of the Play Store apps are shit.6
Last month my phone (YU YUPHORIA) stopped booting up.. so I went the "customer service center" and asked the guy maybe he can install new software. He tried and said we can't repair it.
I love this phone not the best performance phone but I love it. So I don't want to throw it away. So yesterday night I started searching how to install custom ROMs. and found a development mode build for my device. After some tutorials and experiment it's up and running baby... 📱😍. Thank you internet for helping me..1
!rant I need a TL:DR for custom ROMS, I already know what they are, what they do, I need to know how useful they are and where I can start!
Hello! My dad handed to me a pair of unused Sony Xperia SP. I want to put them on a paranoid-setup. Which custom roms do you suggest? Good apps are appreciated too!11
My older brother introduced me to linux and android custom roms when I was like 11. So I flashed my old sony Ericson phone with custom roms from xda and tried Ubuntu live CDs on my mother's old 40gb hdd laptop.
But my introduction to programming was when I saw some videos about the raspberry pi on YouTube.
I was like 14 and programmed basic scripts for my raspberry pi in nano over putty or notepad++.
At first I didn't even knew to intendent but in the process of my first project (Python sunrise alarm clock with tts) I learned many valuable things about Python and Linux/Debian.
The years after that I learned more with my now multiple RaspberryPIs, Arduinos and other hardware.
So in conclusion RaspberryPIs, the diy/open source community and especially my brother introduced me to programming.
So the last two weeks Ive been trying to flash lineageOS on my new OnePlus6. Ive done multiple phones with custom roms without issue, but the new A/B partitioning makes it a lot more impossible.
I followed LineageOS their official guide for the phone twice and also suggestions from both OP subreddit as LineageOS subreddit.
After every fail I end up with a black screen and a blue LED, both when booting the OS and when booting TWRP from fastboot. Then Im doing a factory reset through a windows only tool and start over.
Im getting pretty frustrated, to a level I am almost saying FUCK it I will use google, since my current phone only works while connected to a charger. Since I really hate google I hope any of you can give a suggestion of flashing my phone.13
Ohhh update on the LineageOS16. Everything works. So this weekend im doing full port of LineageOS17. Sure its a dirty port since im just basically taking SODP (Sony Open-Source Device Project) sources and using them in LineageOS sources so it has to work kind of but its still a port of custom ROM thats usable. And well since LineageOS17 is getting to the stage that more and more roms are getting out on XDA then well i will do the same.3

yesterday I got back from a nice trip I had, and ON THAT SAME DAY I got my new Moto G5 and my hacktoberfest stuff!! :D I managed to install a custom ROM and root it on the same day :)
PS: anyone with the G5 can recommend me some Oreo ROMs that are good? THX4
It's always great to have smartphone that sees a lot of android development. I bought my phone way back in 2014 and at that time it was shipped with Jelly Bean. Not talking about official support (you might've figured the brand now) but my phone now has custom ROMs based on Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat and now even Oreo too. All of them running smoothly, giving me vanilla experience and my phone's cost was just $100 at that time.3
I use custom ROMs that's a known fact here. Well almost any custom ROM fails safety net. I'm taking a challenge to make safety net pass on my device running AOSP. Wish me luck.18
Do you know any android-phones that go good with custom ROMs and aren't that expensive?
My trusty Moto Z Play doesn't seem to be supported by Lineage anymore, so I might need to get a new one.5
Are there any custom ROMs I can install on mx LG g-flex 2? It's getting real slow and the battery is shite and I'm sick (and stuck) of this LG skinned android.2
I just rooted my phone after waiting long time to unlock bootloader. I know some of you here are using custom rom on redmi note 4. Which custom rom are you guys using?3
if anyone has firmware or any custom rom for htc 728, please help me. I need it asap. every file that I downloaded and tried was curropted while installing
Does anyone use a Samsung Galaxy S7 with a custom rom? Are there good roms? And can you recommend some?
I have the european S7 I think there are processor differences.
Of all the custom ROMs out there either by community or OEM, MIUI seems to have the least contribution to android.
