I installed VSCode in Linux. I keep finding thing about Linux that make me think its kinda shit. Maybe its just Gnome, but I don't know.
So I startup VSCode. Blank screen. I do a search and find its gpu shit. I start it up with argument to disable gpu accel. Then I go into settings and turn of gpu accel. It now works. Cool that it has these options.
What made me install VSCode. I installed VSCode because I wanted a decent json editor. I search for Linux json editors and I am bombarded by online editors being pushed by Linux websites. Who the fuck in their right mind is going to use a fucking website editor for json data?
I "had" a decent json editor by running notepad++ under wine. But since I turned on GPU in Linux Wine shit just doesn't work correctly anymore. Which is the whole reason I went looking for an editor.
How can a platform like Linux take itself seriously when turning on GPU accelerated drivers breaks every fucking thing in the OS?
Why did I enable GPU accel drivers in Linux? Because updating to 22.04 caused all my java apps to draw incorrectly. Enabling GPU fixes this shit. So I enable GPU to fix one thing and then it breaks a bunch of other shit.
This shit right here is why I have trust issues with Linux.6 -
Sometimes it's better to burn a bridge so you don't even think about crossing it in the future.
See, I left a company some years ago because I didn't see my future in it and all management combined had a collective intelligence of a chicken.
However, I got a call from them a couple of months ago asking me if I could return. The salary was double and the working arrangement seemed fine. On paper. WFH. Flexibile hours...
Since I actually liked the project itself for its technical challenge, I accepted the return offer. What a bad idea that was.
Of course, the things that made me leave for the first time had only gotten worse. Bad leadership, idiot developers in team leader positions. Tech debt higher than Mount Everest. Bad infra that makes you want to off yourself every time you work on it. The whole circus.
Seriously, the "senior" team leader will happily merge code that includes assert(true == true), but hold up a well written MR because he has a personal vendetta with the developer.
Personally, I always check him whenever he starts being an ass. But the poor juniors are in hell. They're terrified.
Now I'm leaving again, but this time I've made sure I can't come back.3 -
so, in latest news (source: trust me bro)
Intel cut off 15K employees from their workforce. But but but, they re-introduced free tea.
Win-Win, right?11 -
The life of every individual, viewed as a whole and in general, and when only its most significant features are emphasized, is really a tragedy; but gone through in detail it has the character of a comedy.3

Just had the realization that the reason why the internet is so toxic isn't really because of anonymity
It's because if you're a massive asshole to someone, that person can't punch you in the face
I mean this for real, and it's kinda counter intuitive, but the underlying threat of violence is what keeps society civil and polite21 -
Researching a new communication platform (Twilio, Vonage, etc), I started with Plivo. Created an account, they offer from free credits to try out the platform, so I set up a phone number and attempt to use their API, didn't quite work. I contact their support through their online portal (being very detailed about what I'm trying to do and the issue I'm having)
A day later they reply asking "Could you tell us how you are using Plivo and the issue you are having?"
That would be OK, but my question from the online portal was in the body of the email message. My first reply started with "You not reading the <bleep>ing message is my issue right now.", but I copied and pasted the same message. I even included a screenshot of the API I was having a problem with (so they could see what I see).
Next day I'm trying out a different area of their API and there is a banner "Incoming and Outgoing phone calls are disabled on this account. Contact Support blah blah blah"
I thought, OK, its a trial account, they probably want some additional validation before allowing anyone to make phone calls. I jump thru the hoops, next day I receive an email "Thanks for sharing the details with us. I have reached out to the Product Team to assist us with this and I'll share more details with you as soon as they revert."
Revert what? The block? Waited until next day, banner still there, so I replied again. Not another reply until the next day.
"Our internal team analyzed the account details and unfortunately, we would not be able to remove the restrictions from your account."
WTF!? Plivo, we are going to give you *money* and you can't answer my question! I'm not asking for free stuff, not asking for help finding the 'any key', your API is supposed to support XYZ feature and it's not working...OK. We're done.
I try to close the account (has too much of my personal info I don't want these clowns to have) and I get an error 'Unable to close the account'. WTF!2 -
I can't focus during the day, I don't have enough energy to do chores in the evening, I can't sleep during the night, and I can't wake up on time in the morning.
It seems like a curse that keeps getting worse.16 -
- I do threat intel.
- Oh yeah? Name 4 critical vulnerabilities.
- Fortinet.
- That's on me, I set the bar too low.1 -
was looking up some code, won't say which, trying to find something, won't say what, and, heck, I need to find out who wrote and maintains this awesome piece of art. After a couple hours of stalking done, yep, that's how good it was, I finally found the author and guess what? They died two years ago, 24 years old. Dead. Gone. A little more stalking and the punchline was: suicide.
FUCK, I don't even know them but it makes me real sad. It seems this' an actual issue in our line of work24 -
do people not understand achievements unless you brag about them =-=
been asking AI on different examples of flexing and all of them sound like vapid LinkedIn posts
"just asked AI a question that's been bugging me for hours! it's such a nothing to have no answers still! 🎉"
one of my favourite examples: "accidentally set my kitchen on fire while trying to impress my friends with my cooking skills. but hey, I now know how to order takeout like a pro. win?"
lol what
I now wonder if I'm depressed cuz graduating school or finishing projects or... uhh ordering food? just sounds stupid to me
rewrote my code from hashset to hashmap. actually kind of re-organized some data types. brain is fog because fuck you. but everything ran so I guess rust thinks it's ok. I'm just annoyed by all that though cuz I just wish I didn't have to do it in the first place
TF is there to brag about
also if you brag about anything good everyone just wants to steal it from you
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF BRAGGING16 -
Deleted over 1'500 lines of code over the last 2 days and replaced it with 80 lines of readable, simple, generic code.
And I'm feeelin' gooood 🎶7
