Me buying toys:
Stranger: (coy oooo) "How old is he?"
Me: "ooh. He's turning 23 this month"
Stranger: "months?"
Me: "years."
Five minutes later in the same store meets stranger again.
Me: "Wanna come to my birthday party?"3 -
So I just had my another CUTSOM (code-until-the-start-of-meeting) practice. 🤷
Proud of myself for pulling it off when yesterday was a day of OS reinstallation-fuckartory and a night of stormy-no-power. 🕺
And at the same time, hating at myself. 🤦♂️3 -

Microsoft introduces co-pilot to Bing search. Google introduces Gemini to search. Still wondering were we are headed:23

This is a place for ranting, right? It's "Dev"-"Rant", right?
So, why so much hate when people do actually rant?
Kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it? Or maybe the name is just misleading...
Or maybe y'all just gate-keeping ranting - which is... ya, okay - you do you, you preppy tosser.
Anyway, on that note:
I fucking hate web-development.
I fucking hate CSS.
CSS isn't a tool, it's a curse.
It's like a soft black magic system:
This specific behavior can sometimes be created by combining these specific elements, but will fall apart if you're a gemini - unless you wore a colorful hat at your fifth birthday party. If you didn't have a party, it'll produce some random behavior of the deer-god's choosing.56 -
So Google’s Gemini API challenge is currently ongoing and I am looking for idea suggestions.
- The goal is to create an AI enabled platform for web or mobile with Gemini API integration.
- The idea is expected to be unique or creative (unique ideas are favored so I heard)
- I found out the last winner of Google’s Dialogflow competition created a Mobile app for the elderly that provides screen flow guide on usage of some of Google’s product (ie: Youtube, Gmail, Drive etc.). This is just an idea guide and I see why such would win. It’s not a must requirement.
The final code will be open source and surely would credit the original idea owner. I need your ideas fellow devranters. What AI enabled app do you think have the best chance of winning this challenge? I have some time to spare on this one.5 -
Google Gemini API for Rest is horrible. I dont know if anyone else feels this way. If you want to know how API References and related documentation SHOULD NEVER BE written that way, go check that out.
No wonder Google's GeminiAI adoption is so much lower.1 -
Gemini is WAY better than gpt for dev assistance, at least for me. I’m using it a shit ton these days. I’ll still use gpt for questions like if cow tendon soup helps my ankle tendinitis out 😁.
Gemini is my main man3 -
General inquiry and also I guess spreading awareness (for lack of a better category as far as I can tell) considering nothing turned up when I searched for it on here: what do you guys think about Sourcehut?
For those who don't know about it, I find it a great alternative to GitHub and GitLab considering it uses more federated collaboration methods (mostly email) mostly already built into Git which in fact predate pull requests and the like (all while providing a more modern web interface to those traditional utilities than what currently exists) on top of many other cool features (for those who prefer Mercurial, it offers first-class repo support too, and generally it also has issue tracking, pastebins, CI services, and an equivalent to GitHub Pages over HTTP as well as Gemini in fact, to name a few; it's all on its website: https://sourcehut.org/). It's very new (2019) and currently in public alpha (seems fairly stable though actually), but it will be paid in the future on the main instance (seems easy enough to self-host though, specially compared to GitLab, so I'll probably do that soon); I usually prefer not to have to pay but considering it seems to be done mostly by 1 guy (who also maintains the infrastructure) and considering how much I like it and everything it stands for, here I actually might 😅2
