Your profession changes how you think.
Coding did the same for me. Some good, some bad.
The good:
I know which problems in life are worth trying to solve.
And I'm very good at solving those problems.
I can analyse a situation accurately. I don't get emotional and panic.
I can immediately identify logical flaws in people's thinking.
I can identify biases in others and myself.
The bad:
I tend to follow simple instructions to the letter and rarely improvise based on reality.
When my wife tells me her problem I try to solve it instead of empathizing - which is what she really wants.
I haven't developed street smarts or the ability to convince people with anything other than logic - but people are more emotional than logical.
I'm not good at small talk.15 -
Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.joke/meme its a bug not a feature bear grylls lol so spaces tabs php stackoverflow tabs vs spaces feature stack overflow2

Since most of the pics here are either joke/memes or battlestations or laptop on a nice desk..... I give you my humble coding corner on my bed from a 3rd world country. Still student so....gotta improvise. No, desk is too far away for power socket.7

Every time I use Javascript it feels like flying a plane with no gas in the middle of nowhere, all buttons in Chinese, only driving knowedge is scooters and yet somehow I land the plane in its destination.5

For all you meme lovers

Well here's my new setup.
My desk wasn't big enough width wise, so instead of buying another one, I just cut some wood to be longer. Gotta improvise 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Just got the monitor today. Next item is a mechanical keyboard.
I'll post one with the lights off so the RGB LEDs are a bit more visible.13 -
The fact that I have to convert a 90s-ish design into a WordPress theme despite the boss trying to convince our client that WP's shit and we should do it in something else doesn't tilt me as much as it should.
But what DOES tilt me and piss me off is the fact that the shitheads told us to 'make the design better', and so I tried; I made one of their graphics responsive by only designing it with CSS (and for once, I even made it work right) because they wanted a mobile-friendly version but failed to supply a mobile-version PSD so I had to improvise and they had the balls to tell my boss that they're 'disappointed that we failed to follow the guidelines'.
Did you bitchsicles even bother to hire a proper fucking designer who would know how to fucking design a PSD to convert into HTML? There's no fucking grid, the design's all over the fucking place like your mother after a Viagra-fueled Friday night bukakke party at an old home and the colors are an eyesore like your own fucking selves if you ever bothered looking in the fucking mirror. Fuck you all to hell.1 -
1. Make a plan
2. Execute the plan
3. Expect the plan to go horribly wrong
4. Improvise
Truest words to come out of the DC (or any) universe!!!4 -
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, to @dfox, @trogus: Thanks for creating a social media Web site which is actually tolerable, possibly even good. To the other users of this Web site: Thanks for not fucking up this actually-tolerable social media Web site.
Keep up the good work.
On a different note, _Deus Ex_ is by far my favourite video game. However, OpenBSD, which is my favourite operating system, does not support playing _Deus Ex_; as such, I was forced to improvise.
I own a few servers which run Ubuntu Linux, which can run VirtualBox, which can run Microsoft Windows XP, which can play _Deus Ex_. As such, I relocated my copy of Windows XP and spun up a new virtual machine, installing the operating system and the video game. After some minor hiccups, _Deus Ex_ was played without any difficulties, aside from the lack of audio, which resulted from having used VNC to access the virtual machine.
This set-up is janky, for I access the game by connecting via VNC to an Ubuntu installation which runs a virtual installation of Microsoft Windows... which runs _Deus Ex_ in windowed mode; however, I find that using this janky set-up is preferable to not being able to play _Deus Ex_.
On an even _more_ different note, future rants may be written in the third person; possibly as a result of having written briefings and whatnot in the third person for nearly two (2) decades and disliking pronouns, I dislike writing in the first person. I shall still be the author of the rants which are posted to this account.15 -
I have a guy sitting next to me in class. We were working on the same project. It's about rewriting a functioning mergesort algorithm in C and doing a presentation about that topic.
Now... the thing is that I was ill on that specific day when we got that project assigned. And he didn't tell me it either. I asked the whole class.
They just said that there was nothing special about that day. These fuckers.
Anyway...
Thé following week we had the same lesson again. Actually there were more than both of us. We were a group of 5 dudes.
3 of them barely have anything to do with programming at all. They just learn for the exams and have bad grades in programming.
Luckily, they already wrote the functioning sorting algorithm.
Since that is the case, I chose to review it to get deeper into that topic.
There were comments in English (we live in Germany) and these comments were written in a different style. My classmates would never comment in such a way.
It was a modified version copied from the internet. The whole source code.
The variables had names like j,k,b,u and so on. It was perfectly obfuscated.
Yesterday, I wasn't at college either.
I had to show up to a given time at a government bureau. They have been working on that project that day. So, I decided to ask them via a messenger, if they can give me the newest presentation files after 1 pm.
They said that they barely have anything to present. They would like to improvise they said.
"Fuck you all" I thought.
I'm done with these fucking illiterate humans.
I hope they all die in hell with satan having a ride on them. Stabbing them from behind right into their assholes and eating their ball sacks (if they have any).
Today is the presentation.
That's when I decided not to drive there during these specific lessons.1 -
<insert bear grylls meme>
Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
Lesson learned: take measures before buying parts4 -
The person responsible for making layouts in CSS/HTML got moved from our project and now our team had been forced to improvise by ourselves until a replacement is found.
Suddenly all those old, untouched bugs seem very appealing.1 -
To the managers and new developers.
Development, and Product Development is not a black-and-white game.
It is an entire spectrum. You cannot move to the next best version. Next best feature, or the next best app.
The only jump that you take is getting started. After that it is a walk across the entire spectrum. Things grow slowly, and steadily. Just keep an eye on the next improvement.
Study the analytics, improvise, focus your energies, and just move to the next shade.
Enough steps, and you will have what you want.
It requires planning, courage, determination, tactics, sticking together ,and above all patience.
Most importantly, get rid of the people who cannot think long, rush, and mess things up.1 -
Me: *tinkering on a webpage that spits out random characters, motivations, themes, and genres for the purpose of short story creation*
Me: Okay, so we have a young girl, with the motivation of The Power of Friendship, the theme of Crime, with the story structure of Dan Harmon, and set in a Fantasy genre.
Coworker: Dan Harmon? Improvise. Wait... A young girl, on a Purge planet who befriends Morty... I mean a young boy from a different universe.
Me: *a minute later* Wait a second, that was an episode of Rick and Morty!!
Coworker: I did that on purpose because you said Dan Harmon.1 -
One CDN goes down and whole world thinks it’s the end of the world!
It’s an opportunity to improvise and bring up something better3 -
When gdb doesnt automatically deferences `this` but you just explicitly deference it at the start of every method:
Ps: the reference variable was literally called `dbug_mee_dawg`
Ps2: Java programmers will ***never*** understand this /s4 -
Hey guys!
I'm just a student and not a pro with years of experience...so this is my first project on github (i've had many projects but never uploaded them)...
I want feedback abt it ...can u guys please visit it when u r free and lemme know what bugs are there, ways to improvise the code, Features to add etc ... Also i'll be glad if someone pulls it and work on the code a bit if they find something wrong and push it...cuz i want to keep learning and open source projects are best way to achieve it!. The code might be a bit childish😅(I'm just a novice)

What if one day you wake up and surprisingly you find new feature by Github called Github stories.
What would it be....
Go ahead improvise.5 -
Got in a great company wherein I will be transformed from php to mean/mern stack. Improvise adapt overcome.
Will apply php best practices in the JS world.
After mean/mern, study react native or flutter. I like flutter but in my company there are only react native projects. Hhmm maybe because flutter is just new. Exciting future indeed 💪6 -
I hate it when customers send you a png of their new website and I have to improvise the responsiveness and every control state and page layout....3
