Any fellow devs located in or near Western Massachusetts??? I have been flying solo the last several months building, designing, and writing literally EVERYTHING for a massive start up company, and after about 4 months its getting close to launch. Nothing is on fire or anything like that, I just need someone to join my team because I've been pulling 80+ hour weeks since October building 3 cross platform apps along with a complex backend, a desktop application, the website, and a shit ton more. I'm killing it for sure, and have us about 2 months ahead of schedule- bit if I sleep for even an hour I lose a week! I don't even care if it's someone just starting off, I'll train the shit out of them on the technology needed to keep those deadlines at bay!!!!13

...who the fuck are all these "recruiters" everyone's talking about? The only one I ever met was a Marine shortly before graduating high school 14 years ago!5
-
This is probably the only social media platform with relevance to me... I've crossed over into the great beyond and can't turn back!
-
I can't believe I'm saying this... but I pressed 'command S' after typing something into the ol google bar... haha3

Walked up to my girl and dropped this:
"Hey baby, are you a TCP Connection? Cause you look like a SYNACK"
Oh yeah, WOOOOOOOOoooo!9 -
I wish there was an api that tracked how many farts are getting blasted into office chairs around the world in real time10

I fucking hate shit/incomplete code tutorials, especially ones that reference old/unmanaged libraries. Fucking waste of time!!!!9
-
I hate complicated and out of date documentation!!!

🔥👽🤘🏻
I've been CRUSHING it lately, so stoked!!!
**Also, this means that in the near future something will crush me because I have a few subjects on deck I need to lock down.
1. Deno
2. TypeScript(deep dive)
3. CPP (currently 75% done with my 2nd masterclass, first one complete)
4. Multi-platform local device storage (Sqflite/mongoDB/shared preferences/Hive)
5. REST/api/requests/json management && application
6. Implementing Firebase authentication using Apple, Twitter, and mobile OTP
7. Cloud functions && server scripting/automation
8. Intro to embedded systems/OS/kernels
9. Steadily improve my code style, design strategies, and build patterns that are team friendly && provide easier code base maintainibilty
10. Influence, teach, and/or spark the interest of someone new to development in any possible- all that matters is getting new people on board, making sure they are stoked about, and last but not least making sure they feel welcome in the community and are able to start off in the right direction.
cheers, ya fockers!!!! -
I think instead of being lazy today and sleeping in until 3, I'm gonna spend my Sunday morning early afternoon learning something new or building something short and sweet. Not sure what I wanna go after though! I started getting into openCV but I'm not good enough quite yet for it to be somewhat enjoyable. I am a swiss army knife so I work a lot of stuff but I'm open to anything.6

My neighbor asked me if I could make him a program for managing the wifi connection to his kids devices. Basically, he wants to be able to turn wifi on/off on selected devices, on demand. I know how to de-auth ALL devices temporarily, but that's not the goal. He asked because I am always looking for new ideas to work/practice on. And no, this isn't a vague post to try and get info on hacking into my neighbors wifi, lol... I set it up and have all the credentials. Is this within reach?14

What do you guys do to pull yourself out of a rut when you hit a wall in a project?
I'm developing a large scale enterprise level application in flutter/dart by myself and reached a really weird point where there are so many things to be done I can't pick which one. I've spent the last few days on authentication and logic so I think I need to tackle something else for a bit... any insight would rule, I've never had other developers to talk to about this stuff before!4 -
Diving balls deep into Reactive Native + Electron after close to a year hammering away like clockwork with Python(everything), Flutter/Dart, EJS/JS/jQuery/Node makes me feel like my manhood has left hahahaha
-
Happy New Year to my awesome new family on devRant! Cheers to a successful year for us all, take care of yourselves!1

LOL XCode....I think they meant "X"tra useless, resembling such as a bag of dicks without handles!!!!
Also, being fucking buried because there's aren't any devs anywhere to be found near me makes me extra cranky!
Ive been hammering away at this Flutter, Java, Swift, Python, and Google maps for just about 36 hours on 3.5 hrs sleep. I just can't stop, I fuckin love this shit!!!
Considering the fact that I'm self taught and just started writing code for real about 7 months ago, I'd say I'm handling this alright for now. Every bit of tech is getting shot out of a cannon at this one- maps, real time tracking, state level auth/Id verification, custom components like ID scans/native desktop applications on custom linux machines, body cams, SIP trunking... all in 3 apps which are 100% multi-platform and scaled up to high end enterprise levels and being groomed for national release. I'm writing the code and doing the tech for ALL of it- even down to custom painted barcode scanners, a wallet system built from scratch, GPS integration, location/geofence based document querying... holy fuck guys I'm gonna fuckin die haha!!!
I went from barely getting websites made in late summer to this very moment, where I am pumping shit out in Flutter, Dart, Python, CPP, Js, Swift, Java, Kotlin, Obj-C, SQL/noSQL, and who knows what else.
I don't even know what the hell I just said haha I hope everyone has a great day! -
Just built a solid desktop app for MacOS with Flutter that's worthy of shipping. I gotta say I'm pretty stoked about it, even if it isn't nearly as dope as LOIC. Haha chargin muh lazers!
I'll get some screenshots up soon!!
I also wrote a comple CLI interface for Firebase management using Python. Advanced auth abilities, CRUD capability, full json import/export, verification/password resets, you name it. Well, except full Firestore/mobile OTP features but it's still a win. Actually dicked around and made a cool little Firebase chat program in the terminal with the Python interpreter.
Finished up my first apps in React, React-Native and Ember, my 2nd with Electron, and also got my first Firebase hosted site up and running. Solid day!!! Cheers to that. And cheers to all of you amazing bastards!3 -
Been cushing all the higher level langs... so, the quest through CPP land has begun!!! FUCKING SCIENCE HELP ME! 🔥🔥🔥🤣🤣4
-
Android Studio is amazing until it freezes, then I immediately get pissed off and change my mind!!
I'm running a goddamn macbook that's less than a year old, has more than enough balls to handle it on top of it having an SSD. Besides my iOS emulator running with Android Studio I have nothing else open!!! Is AS's heap size set too small maybe?? I've been running linux for so lomg because I couldn't afford a Mac, and up until this point it's amazing!!! I just think AS likes to be a pile of shit sometimes.2 -
I posted a few days prior about how I was starting CPP because I had been crushing all my other higher end stuff (Js, Python, Flutter/Dart, etc.) and that CPP was gonna destroy me. Haha I'm doing alright, but I need to find something to use CPP for in order to determine when I will need this besides games or say building a browser engine. Could use a little direction as to what I could be working towards. I have NOT encountered a problem that I need it for yet, but I wanted to familiarize myself with it because it's an essential language regarding full stack. I am a solo dev!2
-
Does anyone have any ideas for intermediate/high level beginner shit I can fuck around with in CPP??? Trying to stay busy but I keep whipping through all my ideas I come up with for practice.
I'm down for pretty much any challenge, as long as it doesn't require me having to DL another 13gb of some bullshit. I have all the shit I need for most situations at this point in my CPP experience!8 -
I went to do the "transport-tracker" Google Codelabs that uses JS/Firebase/Maps, and I didn't pick up on how really outdated it was lol... it took me about an hour of ehat seemed like an endless climb out of a shit factory....but I passed my NPM "massive errors" trial by fire with flying colors, got everything working mint, and managed to get most of everything (minus the docs) updated/cleaned up. Holy fuck that was crazy, it's amazing how many things change in such little time!!!
Anyways, the main reason I'm here is.... should I push the used-to-be-old-and-fucked-up codelabs I fixed up and made current to Google?? They are pretty important concepts that cover a lot of ground, so I feel like labs/tutorials should be refreshed by up and comers every so often but I don't know if there's a reason why we leave em to just rot and die haha -
Hey errrbody!!!
I'm banging out a couple "showcase" mobile apps for practice, portfolio, and/or as potential templating tools.
I have no issue writing the code, I just wanted to see if I could get a couple pointers as far as user databases go. I'd like to have some "user profile" features generated from a FB...vlike profile images, name, address, contact, yadda yadda yadda. I usually use Firebase, but I am still having a little trouble with the more advanced stuff when it comes to integrating users profile data. I can get values from Google and whatnot, but I'd like to see what my other options are on the smaller scale.
I am currently writing code in Flutter/Dart, ReactJS( not native!), Vanilla Js, Python, and CPP.
I know there's options for client side storage like Shared Prefs, Sqflite, etc, as well as server/DB side stuff like Firebase, Aws, Mongo, Node, SQL, etc- you get the idea.
I just want something with decent documentation that's reliable, not a massive undertaking (at least not for all this little stuff, anyways) and could potentially be a go-to platform configuration in the future. It'd be cool to wire in my Flutter and js shit of possible, bit honestly I'm cool with having separate setups for the time being. Any extra input regarding the use of python and/or cpp as well (either separately or with mobile) would be rad as fuck!!!
I do realize it's a pretty vast area to cover, but I figured it couldn't hurt to see what everyone likes to use for full-stack setups.
Thanks!!!!9 -
Courses and modules for languages don't focus enough on the "Dark Side". How TF am I supposed to help prevent XSS when it's not explained to me beyond using a sanitizer. Sigh!1
-
Integrating Algolia with Firebase cloud functions and a solid Js/Ts framework (or even Vanilla Js!) is definitely mint fuckin titties, I highly recommend checking it out if that's a solution you need.

Great practice/skill sharpening idea for my fellow mad dogs that like to get down in multiple languages/syntaxes:
Pick something simple that won't cause too much stress, but will make you sweat a little bit and put up a good fight, ha!!!
For example, I picked the classic "Caesars Cipher" and picked 5 languages to create it in! I picked Dart, Java, Python, CPP, and C. Each version does the same thing:
1. Asks for a message
2. Runs the logic
3. Prints the message cipher.
4. To decrypt, you just run the same program again and enter the cipher text at the message input prompt. The message gets deciphered using the same logic an shows up as the original text.
The kicker:
Only dox/books allowed for reference. Otherwise it wouldn't push you to get better!!!
Python, C, and CPP were EASY, even with me never having used C before. I am great at using Dart, and that one really challenged me for some reason, but I finally got it. The previous 3 langs took less than 40 lines of code each (with Python being only 18 I believe). Dart actually took somewhere around 50, and Java took about 371784784. (Much love to Java though for real!)
Kinda boring as shit, but I gotta tell you it felt fuckin GREAT to look at all 5 of those programs after completing them, no matter how barbaric... especially when you complete 1 or 2 in a language you've never used or maybe felt really challenged by. Simple exercises that hold a lot of important, relatable logic no matter the subject is our lifeblood!!!9 -
Ugh, retrieving specific data fields nested within several arrays and objects in Javascript/Json jacks me up every fucking time!!!
Anyone ever fuck with the MapQuest geolocation/geoqueries api??
I'm trying to retrieve the lat/lng values out of responses generated from submitted address strings, and it's nested about 8 json layers deep.
I feel like I'm overthinking this?
I can access the values in my web console, and can reach them after using the console to assign them to a temp var, but can't get to the values from my actual js code. Only when I run some business logic from the console.
Here's a shitty example of me explaining the tree:
[{...}]
0:
locations: Array(3)
0:
latLng:
lat: <data here>
lng: <data here)1 -
I've been trying to buy Dank Mono for a few weeks now. Purchase link doesn't work, AND I can't even contact the creator to figure out what the deal is. I guess fuck me and fuck my American dollars???!!!!1

Anybody like to rip up CTF (or similar)? I've honestly never done a CTF before, I'd like to give jt a shot. I'll get my ass handed to me because I'm not back up to par on OpSec yet, but I adapt well and when I get into a nice groove I can make shit happen! (I like to think so, anyways haha!!)
I've been in full on dev mode lately and haven't had any time to Hulk Smash for a while... I went to fire up a new Kali live USB today and I couldn't run through the updates like I always have- they changed sooo much and I was pissed because I didn't have ethernet with me. That'll be another day for sure, but I still have my machine with Manjaro armed to the nutsack and back with the BlackArch rep. I def could use a break from the chaos, and getting my ass handed right to me sounds like an awesome time because learning is my favorite thing next to a possible chance at getting to destroy shit.
It's weird, because I'm sort of a n00b but also at the same time I've had computers ripped apart/jammed in my face since every day since I was 9 and Y2K was about to hit the fan lmao!! My hardware/network/layering knowledge is fuckin mint titties, I just can't code like a fuckin madman on the fly. I don't have a "primary" language, because I've been having to work with little bits of several languages for extended periods of time... I can at least find my way around all the dox without much of an issue and have no issue solving the probs I come across which is neat, but until the day comes where I can fuck a gaping hole through my keyboard on the fly like George Hotz during one of his lazy Sunday OpenCV SLAM/Python code streams all jacked up on Herba Mate hahahahaha!!!!
The dude uses fucking VIM and codes faster than anyone I've ever seen on levels of science/math so challenging I almost shit myself inside out when I catch one!!!! The level of respect I have for all my fellow red pills in here is as high as it gets, and that's one of the best parts about being a code junkie- sometimes ya get to cross paths with beastly, out of this world people that teach you so much without even having to explain shit.
If anyone's down, or maybe has some resources for me to check out so I can get my chops up let's make it happen -
Well, the time has finally come to tackle Typescript! So far it's not too rough-so I think I might put some effort into levelling up my redux skills too so I can put them together...maybe!1
