I'm absolutely fed up with all documentation being tutorial-based these days! Well written documentation doesn't start with you creating a new project from scratch.
This is basically how all of Microsoft's documentation starts: Step 1 - Open Visual Studio. Step 2 - Create a new project...
I just checked out their WPF samples repository, and about 8 of the projects won't even compile. Absolutely ridiculous. There's 205 projects in the repository, and of course the one I need is on the list of those that won't compile.1 -
WASM was a mistake. I just wanted to learn C++ and have fast code on the web. Everyone praised it. No one mentioned that it would double or quadruple my development time. That it would cause me to curse repeatedly at the screen until I wanted to harm myself.
The problem was never C++, which was a respectable if long-winded language. No no no. The problem was the lack of support for 'objects' or 'arrays' as parameters or return types. Anything of any complexity lives on one giant Float32Array which must surely bring a look of disgust from every programmer on this muddy rock. That is, one single array variable that you re-use for EVERYTHING.
Have a color? Throw it on the array. 10 floats in an object? Push it on the array - and split off the two bools via dependency injection (why do I have 3-4 line function parameter lists?!). Have an image with 1,000,000 floats? Drop it in the array. Want to return an array? Provide a malloc ptr into the code and write to it, then read from that location in JS after running the function, modifying the array as a side effect.
My- hahaha, my web worker has two images it's working with, calculations for all the planets, sun and moon in the solar system, and bunch of other calculations I wanted offloaded from the main thread... they all live in ONE GIANT ARRAY. LMFAO.If I want to find an element? I have to know exactly where to look or else, good luck finding it among the millions of numbers on that thing.
And of course, if you work with these, you put them in loops. Then you can have the joys of off-by-one errors that not only result in bad results in the returned array, but inexplicable errors in which code you haven't even touched suddenly has bad values. I've had entire functions suddenly explode with random errors because I accidentally overwrote the wrong section of that float array. Not like, the variable the function was using was wrong. No. WASM acted like the function didn't even exist and it didn't know why. Because, somehow, the function ALSO lived on that Float32Array.
And because you're using WASM to be fast, you're typically trying to overwrite things that do O(N) operations or more. NO ONE is going to use this return a + b. One off functions just aren't worth programming in WASM. Worst of all, debugging this is often a matter of writing print and console.log statements everywhere, to try and 'eat' the whole array at once to find out what portion got corrupted or is broke. Or comment out your code line by line to see what in forsaken 9 circles of coding hell caused your problem. It's like debugging blind in a strange and overgrown forest of code that you don't even recognize because most of it is there to satisfy the needs of WASM.
And because it takes so long to debug, it takes a massively long time to create things, and by the time you're done, the dependent package you're building for has 'moved on' and find you suddenly need to update a bunch of crap when you're not even finished. All of this, purely because of a horribly designed technology.
And do they have sympathy for you for forcing you to update all this stuff? No. They don't owe you sympathy, and god forbid they give you any. You are a developer and so it is your duty to suffer - for some kind of karma.
I wanted to love WASM, but screw that thing, it's horrible errors and most of all, the WASM heap32.7 -

This day just sucks.
Got a speeding ticket, went to pay it first thing in the morning. To renew insurance I had to call the bank to update my phone nr for 2FA. In this endless loop of „for this, press 1, for that, press2“ I pressed the wrong number and it invalidated my e-Banking password.
After a while got my number updated, after that called the insurance, after waiting for like 20min got that sorted and wanted to check my bank balance but I couldn’t log in. Now I can’t reset it either because it’s locked.
Need to call then again but needed a break and wanted to cook something but now my FUCKING SINK is clogged.
Have to uninstall half of the kitchen to get to t he pipes..
And it’s only noon.5 -
I'm starting my new job in 10 days, but I don't have the proper internet access to feel really confident about it. My parents want me to move out of the house so they don't have to accommodate for my new job. I'm getting chemo in a few weeks. I'm really sick of fighting shit. Trusting in the plan though.5

Boss: So what are your biggest achievements for this year?
Me: mmm, probably not killing myself
Boss: .....
Me: I meant I reduced the number of fraudulent transactions in our service by adding machine learning to flag suspicious transaction
Boss: Yeah, you should've start with that

I absolutely despise how businesses lean towards using social media for any kind of transaction or source of information when it's so easy for attention whores to flood that shit with useless shit. It's like no one bothers to make a website anymore or at least have a working phone number you can call. It's so convenient to just create a Facebook or Instagram account and put all the information there.
It's just so goddamn annoying how you use this crap for business and call it technology when all I fucking see are ass and tits everywhere. Can you at least be a little less lazy and untag yourself from that kind of bullshit? Don't get me wrong. I love looking at those but I can't seem to search for a fucking restaurant review without seeing someone's ass on it. Search for any type of establishment and you can bet your grandmother's silicone tits that someone has taken a picture of their ass on it or some pseudo-modeling bullshit and tagged that fucking business.
Man, I will not slut shame you for posting a half nude picture. I will not care if you upload a sex video. You fucking go, girl, but for the sake of all things satanic, stop tagging every semi-related business to it just so more people can look at your ass. We've seen enough. I've seen enough butts for ten lifetimes, I don't need to look at this shit when all I wanted to see was the damn menu.
You're disgusting. You're a fucking cunt and I'm pretty sure you know by now that you have nothing else to offer. You can call yourself a model all you want but stay the fuck away from my food. Keep that shit on your own page and maybe find a legitimate company to sponsor you instead of doing this kind of cheap shit. Those likes may fill the void inside your empty cranium but you should know by now that there are millions of basic bitches like you doing exactly the same thing cluttering every platform there is and you all look fucking the same to me.
This is the future of technology, ass and tits everywhere. You can't eat without looking at one. Fucking whores.12 -
!tech . Tldr = last para
I have been doing this social experiment about my interaction with the people for last 7 something years and here are some of the details and observations:
- i graduated college in 2020. All the people ihave met in the last 4 years (related to college ) were connected to me via whatsapp in muted/unmuted groups. During college the interactions were usual but once we all got the results in hand, all the groups were gone quiet. The only interactions were when someone posted an interesting status and the other commented in 1-1 chat. 1-n or n-n chats were completely 0.
My experiment was to not post something for a month and even mute status update so that I don't get to see what they are doing. And a month after , i am rarely even opening whatsapp as there are no chats
I finished my school in 2016. At that time all my schoolmates were obsessed with Facebook, like we would play games on fb , like/comment on posts have group chats etc. There also i got the same results : deleted fb after 12th results and today I don't even remember the names of my batchmates(guess they feel the same about me)
We moved to a different locality in 2011. At the new place, i would initially go to park, play with local guys , chat with this neighborhood girl of my age, went to the same tutions.
Later life happened, studies got tougher, i stopped going to parks, the girl and my family clashed over some topic and we changed tutions later. 10 years past, 2 of the guys are still my homies with whom i get on call every now and then, and the rest people are like , we meet in the streets, say hi and on our way..
My parents got in clash with their siblings amd families when i was like 5 or 6. Since then , the uncles/aunts would occasionally call/meet their would be some fake interactions and meetings but once they woul go away (or we would come back from their house) , everyone would take a big sigh of relief
Moral of the story is :life happens. I would have met 7-8k people in the last 10 years, would be on a daily interaction relation for a period of time and then all gone. New people , new time period and old ones now just a name in contact book.
Its not like i lost every friend , there are around 1-2 people that i interact with on a daily level and 9-10 people who i contacted in the last 30 days, but the point is its just not me who don't wanna interact. Everyone just simply moves on.
We humans pride ourselves of being the "social creatures" , talking about scaling and reaching out to millions of people, when we can't stay in touch of 50 people from our football team or graduation batch or something like that.
And this end brings me to a question for all the 35+ people : how are you all surviving in the world? Is it just me loosing all the touch with my contacts (intentionally/unintentionally) or is it for every one? And is anyone even trying to maintain those relations?are those relations worth maintaining?7 -
I just had a nightmare like I open the fridge and there is a cup with rotten slices of ham inside it and I look around and there is my ex with 8 hands telling me to E A T I T
and there is a feeling of complete helplessness and immense fear like I'm going to die right there. It's like suffocating in your sleep it's awful1 -
i've been informed by my friend group that i'm the only person to consistently hit issues with not having the skill to do a project, go do other projects to gain the skills, then *come back* to the initial project.
how is this not a common thing2 -
I'm so sick of dumb project managers, they want "updates" but then they reply with "I didn't understand any of that but it sounds like it's going well"
I literally have a PM who does it all the time, at this point I could talk to him in another language, and he'd just say "Great, sounds like its going well" then proceed to ask for updated a couple hours later *hardfacdpalm*6 -
No need to think small when you have eternity to work with. Right now I am building a network operating system, something I've started around 2 years ago. I expect to have an installable and more or less usable system in maybe a few more years.
When I would have an eternity to work with, I'd first look to make our planet redundant. It's insane to imagine that we only have this blue marble to work with, while we have a fireball of hell as a neighbor in our cosmic neighborhood. What even happened there? I'd like to find out. Granted Musk is already figuring out Mars, and he has the money for it while I don't. I don't like the man all that much (too much marketing wank) but hey, at least he's got us covered there.
Maybe one day we could live forever. Maybe we could map and upload our minds. Maybe we could replace our entire body with synthetic components when the frail meat-based components inevitably fail. Perhaps it could even happen in our lifetime, at the pace technology is progressing at. If and when that happens, sign me up!2 -
Do you ever learn a particular technology, have something playing in the background and then associate the tech with that for-fucking-ever?
To me, when I was learning about Ruby on Rails I was watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood for like the 5th time (I am a big FMA fan) and have thought of Rails to be associated with it forever. heck, even with just doing scripts in Ruby without rails I have always felt like I was doing alchemy or some shit.
Yeh I know, spot the weeb.
I don't give a shit I just love Ruby.7 -
I love Ada, it seems to be a pretty unpopular opinion, and maybe I’m biased because the best organized project I’ve worked on happened to be in Ada, but that’s association not causation.
However, the lack of multi-line comments in a language made to have specific custom type compliance seems like a fairly decent oversight. Wouldn’t you expect the authors to want to explain about their types?
The other thing that is a draw back about Ada is searching for help. I love the Americans with Disabilities Act as much as anybody, but but somehow “Ada language types” will still bring up ADA info. (Yes “-disability” helps but it’s an extra step)5 -
A cracker just fell under my desk.
I cannot find it.
It's not possible that the cracker traveled farther than everywhere I looked.
But I still can't find it.23 -

Years ago I co-authored a technical paper. I now see you can buy a paper copy of it on Amazon for nearly $900.00
Its freely available anyways so I sure hope nobody has actually bought it haha.5 -

Did you read about the new Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act laws of the European Union, that will go in effect in 2022? Pretty neat stuff, more transparency, user rights and a tool against internet monopolies.
"Very big online plattforms" must submit reports on freedom of speech, abuse of human rights, manipulation of public opinion.
EU assigned scientists will gain access to trade secrets like google search or Amazon recommendation algorithm to analyze potential threats.
The EU can fine serial offenders 10 % of their yearly income. And break up companies that stiffle competition.
Internet companies like Facebook will not be permitted to share user data between their products like Instagram and WhatsApp.
There will be a unified ruleset on online advertisement. Each add must have the option to find out why this add is shown to the user.
Unlike the GDRP data protection rule the two acts will be valid at the Union level. So that there won't be any exceptions from single member states.
Let's hope this leads to a better Internet and not things like cookie pop ups 😄

Non-dev *random* annoyance:
Today in leave me the fuck alone, establishments have opened but social distancing still applies so don't go around approaching me while I mind my own damn business waiting for a car.
I rarely go out unless I have to pick-up food or buy groceries but there is this place I visit once every few months. I don't loiter in the streets, at the mall, or anywhere. I get out of the apartment, go straight to a specific place, do whatever I went there for (store - buy groceries, salon - get a haircut, etc.) and then go home. In short, I limit my time outside even before this whole pandemic so people don't get a chance to talk to me about shit I don't care about.
I thought it was perfect. I've been to this place a couple of times now but this time, it was different. The car pulls over in front of the salon. I get out and was walking straight towards the door when this random guy in front of the hotel nearby starts talking to me "Hey, where are you going?" Confused, I pointed out to the door in front of me then went in. After an hour, I got out, booked a car, and waited for it to arrive. Same guy approaches me and starts up the shittiest excuse of a small talk.
Guy: "Did you go there?" (points at the salon)
Me: *nods*
Guy: "Did you get a <insert random service that my brain filtered out 'cause I don't care>?"
Me: (no answer but internally, "I got a happy ending and had my balls trimmed, what do you want?")
Guy: "What are you doing here?"
Me: (polite but cold, signalling that there's nothing to talk about) "I'm waiting for a car."
Guy: "What address did you put for this place?" *moves closer and starts looking at my phone screen*
Me: "This building. It's fine. I've been here a couple of times." *walks a couple of feet away*
Guy: "Oh no, you should put this blah blah street instead because that one is on the other side."
The fuck do you mean, man? You saw my fucking pin, it's right there and like I said, I've been here before.
Me: "No, no, it's arriving." *starts ignoring every other attempt he makes to start a conversation*
Guy: *starts mumbling about how I put in the wrong street*
Car arrives, I ignore the guy and walk straight to it.
Guy: "Oh, that's you." *mumbling other shit like we're good friends parting ways*
I know some of you will say that maybe he's just trying to help and I'm being a cunt. First of all, I already told him that I've been to this place several times and I know where I'm going. Second, an old lady got out of a car at the time I said I didn't need help but I didn't see him talk to that woman once or try to help her.
You can say that maybe he's lonely and in desperate need for a conversation. I don't care. It's not my responsibility to talk to random people just because they feel lonely especially when they're hassling me and not following the social distancing rule at all.
You can go ahead and preach that I should be kind but I think I've been kind enough not to lash out and stay polite with this guy even when he was already being rude asking questions that are none of his business. I'm just so stressed out and annoyed that people in general seem to never leave me in peace. It doesn't matter if I go out or not, be on social media or not, nothing works. I just hate people in times like this and wish most of them would turn into cats.10
