Today is the first saturday where that is not a working day for me.
Joined a new company this week1 -
Should I do streaming (I am a nobody)? I'm currently half want to and half not want to. And if so, what are streaming platforms other than Twitch, YouTube and Facebook?4

Golang - should I use gin or should I not? Beginner here…..
It’s for a huge e-commerce rest api btw13 -
I am a female manager at a small, mostly male company, and directly manage several people (all male). One of the six has worked for me for multiple years. Since he began his employment, I always felt he had a “crush” on me and kept my distance (as much as I could as his manager).
His crush has gotten increasingly more obsessive over the past year: constantly staring at me, using absurd reasons to contact me through email/messenger/texts, whether at work or evening/weekends, and getting extremely emotional/upset if I do not frequently talk with him or provide feedback for his every task. He never says anything inappropriate or makes any advances but is making me increasingly more uncomfortable.
My tendency to avoid the employee combined with my obvious annoyance with his increasingly absurd reasons to interact with me is reflecting poorly on my management skills — to the extent that my manager is questioning my abilities to manage.25 -
Seems like we are only getting ++ notifications currently. I think I should've gotten notifications for mentions and new comments on rants I've posted on since the last 12h, but I only have ++ notifications. Can anyone else confirm?21

I make a presentation to explain to the boss why we had to tweak around the requirements in order to keep backwards compatibility and stuff. I take 15 minutes explaining how our system currently works and how these requirements would change it, etc etc.
"So... is this workflow okay for our customers?"
They stared into the presentation slide for a good minute.
"I think we should align this row over here with that square over there."
"Oh don't worry this is a demo. But do you think our customers will still be okay with these changes?"
"Yeah, but these two elements are unalligned and they look pretty bad."
I'm starting to think that fancy speech can deter people from questioning or complaining to you. I'm pretty sure they don't know their own product as well as I know it.3 -
Finally got my first dose of vaccine today ^_^
And in another news, I am applying for a job at Microsoft.
I feel Bill Gates is our lord and saviour.
I don't understand why you all dumb people hate such a wonderful company so much.43 -
What would be the most semantic option for a domain if it's just a personal space? .com means commerce, .net means networking services, I think space means... space, the sky... and it's a bit long... .dev? .xyz?
Should I just forget about this and either go with a regular .com or something cheaper I find?10 -
For anyone that has used or is using repl.it, I'm thinking about using it for a project at uni.
The project is a Java program with a HTML, CSS, JS interface.
If I open my project as a Java project in repl.it, is there a way to just run the HTML? It'd be stupid to run the whole app just to debug the frontend...1 -
Electrician.
I went to a technical highschool and was gonna be an electrical engineer.
In fact, I'm starting Electrical Engineering next year.
But I'm not gonna be an electrician anymore.
I'm more powerful now. -
I've been feeling very bad because I don't think I've been making good use of my free time. So I decided to change.
Looked at my goals, first in line, getting a driver license.
For that, I need to arrange times for practice with my dad.
For that, I need a clean timetable. I had one but teachers are lame and don't respect the times of course.
So, I need to print the new one I already had done.
So I went to the printer.
And it prints awful, everything is pink because it doesn't print yellow.
Fine, let's change the cartridge.
Printer refuses to work, it throws a stuck paper error.
My dad tries to fix it putting fingers inside. Nothing.
We suspect it's the new cartridge, change the new cartridge chip with the one the old one had. Printer fooled.
It still doesn't work. Stuck paper.
My dad admits he felt he broke something when he reached inside the printer..
We had to disassemble it and fix the broken part.
Now it works again.
It still doesn't print yellow.
We'll have get it fixed or get a new one.
I guess I have to draw my timetable by hand...
Sucks, I made it using html and flex. Every 1fr was 5'.
I'll make a gist if anyone is curious about it.1 -
Has anyone tried to export a jar in a simple Java project that has JavaFX (and uses WebView) from VSCode?
When I test the program it works fine but when I export it and execute it I get JavaFX errors.
I met those errors early in development, the fix was adding some parameters to the run command (--add-modules and such), maybe I need to add them to the compile process but I can't find how...
I've been searching all across the web and the rant part of this question is why isn't there an answer anywhere? Has NO ONE tried this before? Really? And if someone did, how did they find the solution!?
My only hope is compiling by hand by now... But there must be a way... I could also use Eclipse but I'd like to know how to do it from VSCode, it would be a shame having to take everything to Eclipse just to compile.3 -
Something like what the optgroup tag does in Excel.
Anybody?
Why is something this simple so hard to find how to make? -
Last month I discovered my girlfriend created a GitHub account some time ago just because she saw the icon was like a cat in the Discord Connections settings and was curious about what it was.
That's the most adorable dev-related thing that has ever happened to me.10 -
Electron vs Java + a webkit browser for UI?
I'm really intrigued by your opinions.
Btw I'm considering the difference in resulting software quality (perfomance, weight, etc.).
Would the UI defeat the benefits of using Java?2 -
Website from 2011.
Made from a 2007 template.
The database was in latin1.
The template wasn't even a good one, an adapted hotel booking example for a main page, contact, and news.
There were unused variables and weird functions everywhere.
3 years later and I still don't understand how it managed images. Not that I care to look back. -
Why THE FUCK would Array.fill(arr) use arr's REFERENCE?
I know it's the default behaviour on parameters but WHY WOULD YOU WANT THAT BEHAVIOUR IN THAT METHOD?3 -
I wanna have a very funny email account so I can actually use it for job applications I'd likely be rejected from. Just in case I ever have one.
Something like mycockwarpstimespace@gmail.com, or something even more bizarre.
What's your best shot?9 -
I like Firefox a lot.
But it isn't very nice with WPAs, an area of my interest, and downloads PDFs instead of showing them...
Plus I have seen Vivaldi is pretty good for quite some things, like tabs groups and tabs hibernation, has notes, a cool calendar...
But Chrome's console...
It's the only reason I stay with Firefox. (I not only use it at work, but I also use the command line as a pocket JS engine for little scripting and parsing.)
If only I could get selection bracket wrapping and a multiline editor... is it that hard?4 -
I was gonna be an Electrical Engineer.
It was the last year of highschool, I was offered a job if I learned how to code.
I did. I loved it. Later I went for Systems Engineering instead.
3 years later I don't regret it, but I'm also starting Electrical Engineering in parallel next year.
Wish me luck, but it's ok if I die I guess.2
