Our working hours are from 9 to 6 which is the standard in Malaysia (I'm not malaysian )
Yesterday I came in around 10AM and my boss took me to his room as soon as I arrived.
Boss: If you were in school and you come late what do you expect to happen ?
Me: get punished, I'll compensate by working an extra hour today.
Boss: well our clients aren't available at your extra hour and I'm struggelling with a big client you're supposed to ship the rest of his site and golive today and he's freaking out
Me: yh well his site is done it just needs final QA before going live.
Boss: oh its done already?, cool cool. Anyway you shouldn't be late you're not Malaysian and being late doesn't run in your genes like them.
*ops manager (Malaysian) walks in*
*ops manager looks him in the eye*
*boss looks at the ground*
* me giggling while walking to my desk*3
Yes! finally 4588 people got fed. I am targeting 10k of people. Get free food from my food bank. Previously people dont know where to get it , now they know it from my platform.
It is so satisfying to see people help the needy get food and groceries.
All of us can do this, as Malaysian government fuck themselves, the rest of us citizens can help each other...5
This hurt me so deep. Feel hopeless. He want it fast , 2 Apps for iOS and Android ( that means 2 for Android and 2 for iOS) in this short time with overly complex requirements (as in the documents).
So I listed my old gtx1080 on eBay for $500
I got an offer of $640 from a profile that is brand new. They want to pay (a lot) extra for me to ship to Malaysia. Their profile says they are in the US.
The fuck kinda scam is this?17
I recently had been on a vacation to Singapore and Malaysia, and out of 1000+ pics/videos I clicked, this one's taken specially for you guys 🤗4
Yesterday, I got an email from Apar technologies offering me a job for their client Nielson Malaysia.
Was very excited, but had to refuse due to me being underage(15).11
I'm so sad today. I completely lost my confidences in what I do. I recently I created an app , spent 72 hours doing that , made the app as simple as possible, The intention is clear , to help those who are in need during this pandemic.
Recently my country have the campaign (initiate by the people) raising white flags for help (food, financial help). Since our government begin to arrest those who raise their flag for help and summoned them for MYR 3000 .
So I thought making a platform where people can raise their flag digitally might be easy, but I go rejected .
Well in Malaysia, No one give a fuck about you unless you are a celebrity . Sometimes I wish I am , therefore I do changes. But unfortunately I am just a 25 year old self taught software engineer but not someone with PHD or fame .
[WARNING] THIS RANT IS NOT FOR HULKS OR SHE-HULKS
Here we fucking go again, currently, the time is 1:09 am in Malaysia, while I received a Pull request, so as a senior software engineer it is my duty to review the code before approving to merge develop branch. And this mother fucker decided to do this right after our CTO warned him about his coding style. Refer to https://devrant.com/rants/4699002/... for free cancer.
Our entire team is not happy working with this mother fucker, he is too arrogant.
Btw if he wants to insult me using codes, at least have the decency to draw some UML diagram , write proper documentation and write a proper logic, isn't better?39
The moment I told my client that I can't do the ewallet project for RM 30 which is so underpriced.
He call his son who is a lawyer to sue me for the blablabla....
I assume this only happen in my country (Malaysia). We have multiple inconsistent lockdown...
So most of us went from working in the office to Working From Home. During this time Our employers expects us to clock in to Zoom Meetings or Dingtalk meetings for 24 /7 , microphone must be turned on and camera must be turned on at all time, other wise it consider as a void(that means salary deduction, not consider working) .
Employers here have the mentality of ""IF I DON'T SEE WHAT ARE DOING WITH MY OWN EYE , I CONSIDER YOU ARE NOT EVEN WORKING.".
I'M sick of this shit tbh.11
So Malaysia also famous for police brutality against the non Muslim or non Malays. I recently tweet about the more cases of police brutality will increase day by day. A Malay man replied it is a part of duty of the police to do so. This really confused me. The last time I checked we as a citizens have the right to sue the police if they brutally force us to do anything. And also last time I checked the policemen in my country, just raped a Mongolian girl who is underage and the high court let them go freely. The Malay man replied to me that quite "YOU ARE OUT OF CONTEXT! GO BACK TO CHINA!" Well personally, my ancestors weren't from China , I will go back to Mongolia if I have a choice.17
My company don't trust the employees to the point, we have nearly meetings every 13 minutes explaining what we do.
I just wasted one week of implementing the features due to unnecessary meetings.6
In Malaysia for some reason Chinese and Indians are considered as outsider. Some Malays are considering themselves are native (actually the Orang Asli are the native). Many politicians attempt to even startled a racial fight against the non- Malays. My country is operated by a closed system. Most Dutch , US companies are leaving Malaysia due to the unfairness.
Before this I worked in a Dutch company in Malaysia , where lately the company declare bankruptcy as my respectable boss told me what happened. Later I learnt, in order for a foreigner to start a company in Malaysia , a transaction of transfering have of the company assets and name under an assigned Malay man by the government.
The racism here is real and crazy. It is no surprise most Malaysian migrating to Taiwan, China Singapore , Thailand and some western countries.
I hate racism. Recently I heard news about western countries still have the hatred against Asians which I abort the idea of migrating there. But in my country Asians are hating other kind of Asians before for being different Asian.
May be I should just get my arse back to Mongolia (where my ancestors will be )7
Just got my stickers today. Thank you @dfox and the team. All the way from NY to Malaysia! Next stop, become a supporter!
So this phallus decided to make my day a night mare, I coded the Interface in separate class for each distinct services, He just told me to re write it to one class, before he don't understand it.
I wrote documentation, he said it is not professional. and now the fucking codes are containing redundancies.
For instance if he use my method, all he need is call my function once, and call it everywhere. But now the code is messy as fuck, calling the same thing over and over again which can be done by separate it to a function once, and reuse it.5
So Malaysian government decided to say this in the press conference on Covid19 increased cases and quote "I didn't failed, is just I didn't get it to work."
And now my friend's brother who failed the exam try to convince his parent , by telling them "I didn't failed the exam , is just I didn't pass the exam ."
I genuinely think that Malaysian government is copying Joel Osteen.8
So this PHD fresh graduate work in our department for a year boast about how professional a PHP developer he is. Today, he , my the other 2 co-worker and I have to submit the project, He technically "Taichi" his responsibility away and said he can't do this and that. Expect we do everything for him. What is more sad, is as a PHP as he boasted, He dont even know how to use Xampp, apcahe.
Our CMS messed up because of him, Server are F***ed , he keep sabotaging our source code that works, and made one of my coworker cried due the stress he given. He keep telling us that how professional he is, how suck we are. Ironically, he as a professional , he can't even do the basics like even know echo" something "; can also printf("something"); in PHP. He said he studied in US and from Jordan. I know that people like me only have Olevel in Malaysia. So dont show off to me a foreign certification that can't even help you to complete the job.
I hope this project can be complete without this guy. All show and no go. Where's the team work tho?12
Attended VMware vForum Malaysia 2017... So sad that they have so many stuff happening concurrently, made me wish I could clone myself to go everywhere...1
Wow this is amazing, I search for the word Malaysia in Devrant , most of the rant are from me , it's like I represent my country to show the world how shit my country is. 😂😂😂😂
Nice feature from Devrant , the search func.5
I need help!
This is gonna be a long question/story.
I'm a Syrian based in Malaysia working as a lead web dev in a good company.
I have a friend in trouble and I want to help him.
Here's a summary:
My friend is a project manager at a gaming studio he happens to be an Iranian atheist with around 2 years of experience in the game making industry.
He worked on and delivered a couple AAA games at his current place of employment as a project manager in one of the teams that made those games.
He stood up for his team when the management was overworking team till after midnight sometimes and forcing them to work on weekends without any tangible compensations ( basically they gave them things like free lunches, movie tickets, etc).
The result of his standing up to his team was the management handing him a notice telling him that he'll be fired within 2 months due to "underperforming".
This was a month and a half ago.
He looked around in Malaysia for a job that can get him a working visa, but his niche background couldn't help.
After his termination in few weeks he can extend his stay at Malaysia for approximately 2 - 3 months.
Now the reason why I mentioned that he's an "Iranian atheist" is the fun part of this story (sarcasm), Iranian government considers him as an "infidel" and he's banned from Iran.
His Iranian passport can't get him anywhere where he can make a living.
So basically he has close to no options.
Now to where I come into all of this:
I want to help him.
I'm going to dedicate my free time for the next 2 - 3 months teaching him web development, the problem is, I don't know how to teach web development in such a short time, in fact I've never taught anyone programming from scratch.
If he can show promising results I know that I can make a case for him get him a position in the company I work for.
I already convinced him today to try and learn web development because I can tell that in Malaysia there's always demand on good web developers.
Now to my request:
Did anyone here teach programming to someone else before?
Did anyone here learn web development in such a short time?
If you've read all this... Thank you :)17
Let's get a thread going..
I'll start off..
>English teacher (might start my CS degree soon)
>Malaysia (Russian by birth)
>JS & Python41
NIGHT MARE? MY CODING NIGHT MARE IS USING IPAY88 for the project. Ipay88 is the well-known payment integration in my country but their service is fucked up, I wrote an article of comparing Ipay88 and stripe. IPAY88 is fucked up. So for those who would like to programme a backend system or application to Southeast Asian customers , please don't use ipay88! use alternatives.

AirAsia flight bound for Malaysia landed in Melbourne after pilot error - CNN https://apple.news/AI_Q4eVtTT32kIS9...2
I right now work as a Remote Front end dev and I must admit is pretty sweet and flexible, however, I think my ideal job would be in a foreign country (Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong) with the same remote flexibility but with a Visa sponsorship, Working on modern web projects, progressive web apps etc. learning from others and improving my code. please let me know of any opportunity haha.1
What's the most popular online payment method in Malaysia? I'm Chinese developer, creating an ecommerce product for Malaysia.3
Just now I was talking to this young girl on her employment in the corporates. I asked her if she learned anything that allows her to deliver value to her organization. She said 'not much'. And she was actually learning the wrong things, and didn't get exposed to the proper tools to get the job done, and the fact that she wanted to take the offer to work overseas.
I was telling her that if she has the adequate skills and the drive to deliver, she can be anywhere she want, but not now, and then I offered her a part time or full time freelance position that she can really learn up a lot under my supervision and deliver with satisfaction. She's not budging.
It also made me thought of myself on why I'm always hesitant to get out of Malaysia and just start a new career along with my peers overseas. I honestly want to get out of here. Seriously. I could have just gone out there. Do you know how much that I envied people who went out and had a good life being employed elsewhere?
But I still haven't been satisfied with myself, of not being able to deliver the best that I can, the best of my work throughout the 7 years of my career, and I intend to stay and prove that I can produce something great and potentially have really good gains before I make my ultimate move. I still have work to do. Unfinished business.
There are several more things that I need to cover such as server deployment on AWS, doing DevOps for web backend apps, and more architecting work. It takes time to learn. That's why I want to delegate some Android work to that young fella, so that I can move on to the more hardcore stuff.
In Malaysia where majority are short-sighted employers located, I am more comfortable with Backend Development with the reason that customer (as they dont know how that think work in the first place) so can't force me to change the feautre , unlike frontend, it is easy to complain about the UI/UX ... I learn all the complex topics just for fufilling the need of making this or that button rounder.
No Offense tho.11
Wow it saddens me to see so many people needed help and how long they being fasting?
Fortunately my team is reaching up to help .
Btw my platform https://bit.ly/3dWpOKe (only for malaysia ATM)7
Technically I owned the #malaysia hashtag though, just realised. So it is easy o find my rant themn :)2
MySejahtera is not a good appliaction at all! They just use Sqlite or Shared Preferences in the app for keeping the data local. (Just local?) As soon as you clear cache or data, The user no longer exist! Like wtf ?
So I decompile the app and review the source code, the code is not even properly obfuscated(That's why I can read it). There's a part of the code on a for loop went
for (int i = 3; i < array.length(); i++)
for (int j = 2; i > array.length() *2; j ++ )
Which is unacceptable!
First , why nested for loops?
Second, instead of declare 'array.length()' multiple times why not declared it global for once?
No wonder the initial state of the app is buggy as hell.8
