Just read this in German craigslist:
I make your new fancy website...only 99€...no wordpress, cuz thats for blogs only...
I program object oriented in HTML/CSS!7 -
"If you are on Craigslist to get a sofa, and you see one for free. You think there’s something tragically wrong with it – maybe there are bedbugs. But if you see a sofa on there for $2,500, you think ‘oh man, that sofa must be amazing’. It’s the same thing with art – you set your own value." - Jessica Hische18

Just finished my third year of my comp sci degree when a friend found me a position at a very small startup. I was asked to build a web crawler to take job postings off kijiji and craigslist and place them in our database for our clients to find. It didn't take long to build (even with limited experience). It was pretty shady. I didn't think i'd have to deal with the ethics of a task so soon in my new dev-life! Luckily it never made it to the live site. After that they got me to work on their android app (not so shady)
4 years later i still work for that company building apps. It's still a small team, and i love 'em 🤙1 -

Post on Craigslist: Need simple website. No coding, HTML and CSS only. Send price and examples.
Me: I need you to answer 4 questions before I can send a price.
Them: I really like your work, but if you cant give me a price without me answering any questions then you arent a good fit.
Yeah.... I feel for the guy that picks this one up.4 -
I am pretty sure my phone started listening to me...
A few days ago I downloaded a app similar to Craigslist but a little more modern. THE ABSOLUTE FIRST THING MY EYES SEE IS A CAR. NOT ANY OLD CAR. BUT THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL OF THE CAR I OWN. May I also mention I’m on vacation on the OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE COUNTRY?!?
Wtf.17 -
Back in college, we were assigned a group of 3 other students to complete a duplicate of a current popular site. My team received Kijiji, a Canadian ad listing platform similar to Craigslist/eBay. This was to be done with JSP and JavaEE. We had to create a 30 minute presentation to go along with it.
Fairly simply, except we had one week. As I worked 2 jobs at the time, I typically left my college work to the last minute. Initially, we split up the work, myself taking 50% of the code and splitting the rest between the other 3. I was perfectly okay with this, until the night of the last day, they messaged me saying they had done nothing.
Extremely annoyed, I told them to just do the fucking presentation and that I would now finish the other 50% of the code myself. I coded 16 hours straight, went to bed, woke up and coded for another 8 hours. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but it covered all the points.
The day of, they showed me their presentation. It was complete trash. When we ended up presenting, I improvised the entire thing. The others didn't even speak. Not once. At the end of it, we received 65%. The professor said that if the project had been completed by one person, it would've received a perfect grade, but because there were 4 of us, he expected more. They all looked at me in fear of saying something. I just thanked the professor for his time and left.
The professor knew I did the entire thing myself. My code was by far the most consistent in his class, constantly receiving perfect marks and him asking me to assist other students.
When I graduated, I didn't have 100%, but I did have a 90%. Considering that project was worth 25% of our final marks, he definitely bumped my grade.3 -
Reading all these lovely rants about PMs, I'm considering changing my profession to PM hitman.
Find me on Craigslist :-)9 -
Sometimes I feel like giving my client a Craigslist-frontend website. Saves me shit load of time to pretty up.

Giving away a 2nd Gen ipod for FREE on a couple apps.
22 people have messaged me about it... 3 days later and it still hasn't been picked up.
This is ridiculous people, the item may be free but my time is not >:|
IM LOOKING AT YOU "ON THE WAY" GUY1 -
I was construction management for ~9 years, then I quit with really no back up plan, and decided to pursue a career in development. After a little self education I started checking Craigslist every day for internships/entry positions, and applied for all of them. Within a couple weeks I found a company willing to give me a shot, 2 years and a few agency jumps later in Still kicking.

So, I'm bored at work (contract ends in one month and finished everything I could do), so I started searching for a new flat for September.
In France we have a website called "LeBonCoin" which is like craigslist, people post available flats.
But, being a nerd, instead of searching manually (peasants) (and also because I have so much free time on my hands), I coded a web scrapper in Python. It gets all the info (monthly rent, description,...)
So far so good, now need a way to make it calculate the distance between the flat and my next work place (for biking), and the city center.3 -
Where the FUCK do I look for Web Developer/ Frontend / Backend jobs?
Every resource just says make a github, make a portfolio website and apply to jobs. Indeed! Craigslist!
Seriously? I know some stuff. Where do I apply now? And how do I even begin to make a "resume?" The work experience I have is absolutely irrelevant to software, so I wouldn't use a traditional one. Shall I use some sort of template/website to make a software "resume" as well?
I'd really appreciate a guide on how to get in the damn door. I feel like I'm going against the clock and at a roadblock. Appreciate y la ahead of time 🙂14 -
I bought a computer awhile back off Kijiji (Canada's craigslist) for a really good price. Today, decided I was going to upgrade the ram since I got a sick deal on some corsair vengence 8gb sticks online...
And just before installing it, I realize the fucker decided to use low profile RAM in his build for a reason: he (for some fucking reason) decided to route the airflow for the system by placing the cooling fan directly over the first 2 memory slots.
Guess who's 5 minute memory upgrade just turned into an hour of re-routing all the airflow in the PC and having to redo all the fan wiring.
I shouldn't complain, I mean I got this computer a couple years back for like $400, but still, wtf man...4 -
Teaming up with a marketing firm looking for a developer. The owner was showing me a couple samples of Craigslist postings that he gets sent every day by a filter he has set up so that I can provide some feedback on what would be a good fit.
Second listing we pull up looks reasonably good at first, then I notice this bit at the bottom:
“Must be available to do design review calls where we’re both on the phone, I tell you what needs to be changed, and you do it on the spot.”
Politely but firmly let my new friend know that that right there was a big red flag saying to move on.
Anyone else have helpful criteria when trolling these kinds of postings?
