I ALWAYS, *ALWAYS* do a triple check before I format a drive/USB flash drive/anything.

Sometimes I think its stupid but hey, you could never know!

Just wanted to format a USB flash drive so I formatted it with gparted, didn't go well so I took it out, back in and was about to try again when... last check....

Oh, that not the flash drive, that's my main SSD 😅

CTRL+R in gparted aaaaaand my flash drive is there again, formatted, done.

Last week my brother was visiting. I did some advanced partition management for his girlfriend (preparing a hard drive for backups) and used a Linux live system with gParted for that.

That's when he said "I guess it's time, that I get into Linux - what do I need to get started?".

I recently learned why you shouldn't delete your linux partition by just pressing the 'delete volume' button.

I currently own a SP3(i7, 256gb).
I got bored of windows and installed Linux Mate. It ran quite fast and snappily. All was good.

Then I looked on the internet. Apparently fedora runs really well on the SP3. So I deleted my Linux partition by pressing 'delete volume'.

Turns out, thats a bad idea. Grub was in that partition, so when I restarted my tablet, it booted into the 'grub rescue>' prompt.

After messing around, I finally found that pressing the Volume Down button and power button at the same time seemed to boot into my Fedora Live USB.

All the while, I was quite worried I'd lost all of my assignments(I knew I could have used the minitool of gparted live cd).

Finally I got it to install, and all was good again. Has anyone else made this mistake?

Now my laptop not even trys to boot. It only opens BIOS without any boot options. I absolutely have no idea how to fix that shit. 😣😰

FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT USB STICK. What the actual fuck how hard can it be to format a usb-stick? Excuse me?

Basically, flashed arch .iso on my usb stick. After stuff was done I want to format my usb stick again so I can put files on it. Normally thats a super easy process. I tried a shitload of things.

1) On windows: Quick format -> Windows was unable to format.
2) Went to Linux. Opened GParted. Gparted didn't detect the usb drive? Wtf. Rebooted then it showed up. Tried to delete all partitions, tried to clear the entire drive. Gparted just freezes. Ok... wtf is going on?
3) Tried to go the bruteforce way and zero out the entire drive with dd. After a few seconds dd freezes and is not doing anything anymore.

Wth is going on lol? Why can I not wipe my usb drive? Any ideas?

So I was installing ubuntu alongside windows in dual boot.

The installer had some problems while partitioning the disk, so I did it manually using GParted. Then the installer had some problems while installing GRUB.

Now I got to know that my windows partition has been corrupted and ubuntu isn't installing.

My fully functional laptop is now reduced to metal crap with no OS being able to boot. Fuck Ubunu. Fuck Linux. -_-

to all those Lenovo guys who are wondering how to bypass raid for installing linux:
boot from live usb and rewrite the partition table from raid to something else using gparted. and done. I had this issue long time ago.

So my friends USB drive suddenly doesn't work. It shows up in Windows' device manager (with no exclamation sign) but not in My Computer or even Disk Management (So I can't partition it) Reinstalling drivers doesn't work either. When trying to mount it in Linux, Linux complains that it can't see the drive. fsck and gparted don't read it either, but it shows up in lsblk. Dmesg complains it can't read the partition table (error -110). Any of you guys have bright ideas? Nothing like this has shown up in SO before so I've asked in both here and SO. Any ideas?

Yesterday I bought a thumb drive for installing Windows 10. I've also tried booting the Windows 10 installation media from a partition with grub, and adding the storage drivers to the install.wim image, but the drivers don't install correctly and I don't get it to work. I'm on Arch Linux and a laptop.
I spent 4+ hours on that. uefi-ntfs.img, Windows 10, also tried Windows 7, gparted, cp, bla, bla, bla.
On attempt n12903813280, I open again gparted.

spent hours trying to fix the hfs+ partition on an old Mac that I'm using as a media server, decided to say fuck it and I'm (hopefully) gonna be booting arch from a btrfs drive soon enough and moving all my stuff there. Feels liberating.

I'm facing a strange problem, I have a 400GB microsd, it is formatted as exFAT

I tried formatting it again to either ntfs or ext4, on either Linux or macOS, but every tool says format complete then when scans again it still shows the files that storage had + that it's exFAT

I tried gparted, disk utilities (macOS), Disks (ubuntu), mkfs all show same result that it successfully formatted the card but after refresh still shows old filesystem + the contents of the memory already there no file was removed

Can anyone help?

Anyone encountered issue with vanishing hdd space on Windows 7 ??

My father has this issue: amount of free and used space doesn't add up to the correct total. The problem slowly but steadily worsens.
I tried to help to the best of my systems knowledge but no cigar.
We checked sizes of everything with windirstat so we are somewhat sure that used space is calculated correctly.
We ran native disk cleaning, the trash is empty and pagefile is set to static size.

Honestly i ran out of ideas, last one is take a peek at the disk in something like gparted but i doubt I'll learn much.

So for Christmas my friend got me some USB's from a pretty reputable company. When I copied some folder (~1.5 gb) to it (it was exFAT format) it errored out around 31%, then my OS just unplugged it (I'm not using Windows, Linux person) then errored out. So I replugged it, tried again, and again same thing happened. So 3rd time, my OS just doesn't recognize it... I checked "lsblk" (a linux command to list all drives) and it doesn't appear. So I checked the logs of my system (not OS but system itself) and it says that it's a memory issue (so I know nothing about this cause I never saw something like this before, but I think the USB is formatless as in like it has no accepted format.) So I was extremely confused. I put it on GParted, which is a tool dedicated to formatting drives. Not as an app but I booted a USB with it, AND EVEN THAT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT. My dad suggested booting on windows and trying it. So I went on the windows installer again off a USB, opened command prompt, then notepad, then the file dialog (since explorer doesn't exist) and sure enough, even that doesn't recognize it. So my USB is absolutely cooked. All from 1 folder. Wow. Any ideas what to do with it to fix it, or should I just abandon it? Also merry christmas! :D

So, I just attempted to use KDE's partitionmanager application on Gentoo... just noticed that every time I run it, it screws up the formatting in /etc/fstab.

That's a deal-breaker! Back to gparted...

I try to delete a partition from my sundisk Pendrive using GParted but when I do this I got the error that is shown in the image.

And If I try to use "fdisk" which run `sudo fdisk /dev/sda` following command it gives me ```welcome to fdisk (util-linux 2.34).
Changes will remain in memory only, until you decide to write them.
Be careful before using the write command.
