-- How I succeeded turning a PHP/MYSQL app into Android app within a week --
Alright. So I wanted to grab your attention to what I'm about to write. If you are here just to read about the technologies I used, jump to bottom.
This is also a kind of rant; rant against the other fellow devs who demotivated me originally when I asked a question.
I'll not go in the details of my original question. Here's the link for those who are interested:
https://www.devrant.io/rants/366496
It's been days since I achieved what I wanted to but I thought someone might learn from my experience. So here it goes.
Why FREE?
Well, it was an important client. I worked on his website and he asked for an app for the same website and told me he won't be able to pay me anything for the app. I was, somewhat, under the impression that he might be testing me. If not, then I would end up learning something new. It wasn't a bad deal for me so I didn't hesitate to took it.
Within a week, I was able to pull the job and finish it. I felt so much better (and proud of myself) when I finished the app within the week and client approved it. What did I get? I got a GOOD BANK CLIENT in my pocket now. Got a lot more worth of projects from the same client. If I were being paid for the app, I might not have pulled the job so much better.
So the moral of this story is never to give up. NOT EVERY DEVELOPER SELLS SHORT ONLY FOR "MONEY". Some enjoy learning new things. And some like me love to accept new challenges and are not afraid to try something new everyday.
In case, someone is interested in knowing the technologies I used, here they go;
PhoneGap
Framework7
Template7
Apache Cordova
I wrote an API for the interaction between the web services and the app.
Also, Ionic Framework seems promising but it had a learning curve and time was of the essence. But I'm gonna learn it anyhow.14 -
So I just read about Tim Sneath leaving MS to join Google, and now I hate my life :)
We have those tools for cross platform apps
1. Xamarin
2. React Native
3. Flutter (dart)
4. Ionic
5. ??? (am I still missing something?)
FOR FUCK SAKE not only I had to learn three programming languages to be able to do mobile apps now I need to learn JS shit for mobile development cuz obviously this is the "trend" of the fucked up future and I'm sure people will keep on coming up with shitty frameworks and some random fucked up customer will request to use that shitty framework ...
Sorry had to get it out of my system :)9 -
Part 2 of this rant: https://devrant.com/rants/933393/...
Today I received the source code of the application, it has like four views but guess what, all four views have their controllers in one controller.js file that is about 1400 lines of code.
Also all their data models are in one file,
everything is in one file.
Does anyone know how to make it through that shit :(16 -
I was just asked to explore Ionic Framework any advise?
Please tell me I will not face hell doing an ionic app :(
I started reading docs and the word Cordova appears to be used a lot, I had a really bad experience with Cordova + PhoneGap, am I in trouble? am I going to regret life?10 -
I am really really regretting learning Ionic Framework as my first JavaScript Framework
Now suck it up and learn React...8 -
I feel bad for a college:
She's an android developer, and i used to do ionic and now i moved to web.
Our manager asked her to learn ionic for some project and let me help her arround, i did, and she started working on that project, the result was bad for the fact that js itself is now to her, as for angular/ionic, and lets not talk about the cordova shit .. The problem is that he's blaming her and letting her work for extra hours to fix the issues .. I tried my best to help her, but i'm still feeling bad for her, thats not her fault that her manager let her jump into some shitty situation using some framework (language even) thats far from her knowledge. -
Hello everbody!
For college I'm doing a small research project. The goal of my research is give advice to web developers on using JavaScript frameworks to create mobile applications and help them decide which framework to use by comparing 3 popular frameworks. I decided to compare React Native, Ionic and NativeScript. I myself have only used React Native to build a mobile application. I would like to get some opinions from other developers on this matter. I want to compare the frameworks based on the following categories: developing time, performance, debugging an learning curve. Are there developers here who would be willing to write their experience with these frameworks? Or maybe some of you know a forum or other place where I can ask for some help:)3 -
Well AI is made by some developer so why not just swing with the technology. When JavaScript Framework because famous (jQuery, Ionic, React) we started using them like an asshole. Similar way when AI takes over, let's switch to AI.
All I wish is that AI doesn't fuck my girlfriend/wife. I will implement very strict rules.1 -
Me and some friends are working on creating a food recipe app and webapp. Currently in Norwegian, but would it be worth the trouble of translating all content and the app itself?
Backend written in PHP/MySQL with Laravel and app written with Ionic Framework v1.4 -
Question:
Could a mobile application such as, facebook (well a minimum version or it), twitter, devrant etc., be built using the MEAN stack (using ionic framework). Or is really ionic very slow?
Or do we need React Native "for better performance"? thus ME[R]N stack?
I am confused, and every article i read says something else.
What are you devs using these days? i need some opinions here.
F*** this sh*t (now my post is a rant)4 -
I have been coding since 2016, am I overthinking applying for jobs because Im not that "current"? (my React experience is not that deep, I have been working on our startup whos stack doesnt use React or any other front-end framework (only simple handlebars templating))
I have built an actual stable working web platform and mobile app through ionic, is this enough to get a decant non-junior job?
I have never actually worked at a company, its been freelancing and startup (we failed, moving on). Am I overthinking how good I need to be to get a job? I like this one local company but I dont want to screw it up, Im sort of delaying applying there because of it7 -
Created a VS Code extension for Ionic framework snippets
Please check it out🙂

My laptop have been in warranty service for nearly a month, I have an FPGA project, a mobile app to make using ionic framework, to make a DSP compare two images and recently someone wants me to make a him a website.
And I actually have just very basic knowledge about these stuff, I've only made an desktop app once, and it just takes numbers gives back numbers.
I never wanted this, leave on my own, stop overrating my searching skills !
And all of that by the end of this semester. Fuck you people. -
I want to have a fucking background in native Android programming (thou I already have Java/C#) but my laptop is so fucking slow (rip Android studio) and I don't have enough money to buy a better one. I did try studying hybrid Android programming (Ionic Framework) but I just don't like coding in HTML/Angular/JS/TypeScript. Haha.1

Browse to ionic page when it's in version 1. Scroll down to their documentation , almost there about to complete reading their documentation, ionic releases version 2. Get your system setup for ionic 2. Browse through their page for native nom packages , find ionic V3 there... !!! What the fuck .!!!??? Am I the only one experiencing this ?1

What's the best mobile development framework coming from Angular perspective? Ionic? Should I also study React and React Native? 🧐
How about flutter? How about in terms of job demands? I'm a PHP and JS guy4 -
Tried to build and searched the internet to build scrolling tabs UI in Ionic Framework and realized that Native is Native. Will be getting back to Android Studio tomorrow.

Xamarin vs Flutter
I already know c# but I’m thinking it’s better to learn Dart + Flutter than carry on with Xamarin (only ever worked on the back end parts of Xamarin so not familiar with the layout syntax and the ui side of it).
Xamarin seems to be so clunky (to be fair more the dev environment than the end result), even on a powerful machine it’s a pig to work on.
Our project uses Xamarin forms, without any extra MVVM framework such as Prism and it just seems a bit shit from what front end code I’ve seen (could be the devs).
So given that I’m not sure that holding out for MAUI and expecting it to be a silver bullet is a good idea.
Is the UI code for Flutter any cleaner?
Is the dev environment more reliable?
Or is another option better, such as ReactNative or Ionic ?
(Particularly if one of those would let you develop an iOS version without access to a Mac)2 -
last month i got a project signed to build an app to do few idiotic things, the whole point of it was for my client to earn money using google reward video (imagine). well i've worked on a lot of projects and this one seemed to be too simple. after checking Ionic website i saw lots of plugins among them where admobs-free and admobs-plus and even a paid version so i checked them out and it seemed to be pretty awesome, well. after a month i can only tell you this: DO NOT EVER USE IONIC. NEVER. you should constantly remove platforms and add it again and even so it gets messed up quickly. right now i just regret that i started this project with ionic and i cannot tell you how many bugs i ran into. JUST DON'T USE IT!
