"We should use ambiguity-driven development using co-domain model sockets, anfractuous horizontal scaling, and recursive async testing"
"What even is that"
"I found some words I like in the dictionary, and used it as the title for a medium article. I thought that's how we play the game as devs these days"6 -
Front End programming is the worst of all worlds.
I am a Full Stack developer that during every interview says "i can do front end stuff if needed". Something gets lost in translation and becomes "I do only front end stuff".
I don't mind front end development, but i hate urgent nitpicking that happens every time. Everyone else on the team works by regular tasks and deliveries (sprints and release dates), but my work consists of being the brush of the creative mind of someone else, that could not figure out how to make a good design before sending it out to me.
I am not a designer, a designer job is a creative one, i am just a brush that the team uses to complain why this button looks wrong on this not designed platform.9 -
To the freelancers.
Do you offer web-hosting? What are your experiences? Where do you rent servers? What do you charge?
Thanks in advance5 -
Managed to make myself look like a fucking moron again today...
Can't mount NFS share, get "permission denied". Huh, that's weird... It's correctly exported.
Well it's correctly exported and rpcinfo -p $HOST times out... Must be firewall rule.
Firewall rule is changed but still no joy "permission denied"... Fuck sake networks, can't you do anything right first time?!!!
Firewall rule is correct I am reliably informed... Go about proving that it's not fucking correct and provide "evidence" to show this, I was a little bit more blunt than was strictly required.
Networks say they will take another look.
I turn NFS logging to verbose for my own interest and notice the line "path/to/directory is not a valid directory".
I, as a moron, had missed a "/" at the start of the path. That's why I still couldn't mount after the firewall change.
Go over and apologise in person and explain how I'm a total idiot. -
Is using Arch Linux the nerd equivalent of being vegan?
Like they have to mention it to everyone.
Btw I use Arch and am vegan.2 -
When you work hard for something and you are sure that you gonna get it, but some ass licking guy who doesn't even know how to code gets it. Yes, it happened to me. I was working for an open source organization called PROBOT. I was working my ass off to get into GSoC with that organization. I created PR(pull request) after PR and solved most of their issues. But later on, I came to know they didn't even saw my single PR. Life surely teaches you some hard lessons but it's you who should not give up I would say. I do not regret working my ass off and writing those code and not getting into GSoC but I cherish those moments where I learnt many new things. And as for that organization, I would say they don't even know how to manage. This was my exact reaction when the result came3

At job interview.
They: What would you describe as your biggest character flaw?
Me: *rolls d8* I pretend not to understand the local language in order to avoid interactions I would rather not have.
They: What?
Me: ¿que?6 -

Me: Because the feature expect a...
Client: I sure hope you won’t expect your client to want to know all these teach behind this feature, as a client, I just expect it to work.
Me: Ok...
Client: So why isn’t it working now? WHY?
Me: 🤦🏽♂️
Client: I need a response!
Me: It is not working because...
Client: Stop telling me logics!! I just want it to work. Why isn’t it working...
Me: It is not working because I fucked up. It will work after I fix it.
Client: Why isn’t it working though... I don’t understand why...
Me: Just let me fix it and it will work...
Client: Why can’t you tell me why... it’s not good communication... (hangs up)12
