It's a shame devRant has gone to hell, but as the moderation seems to be non existent now in a time it's desperately needed, today I kill my ++ subscription.
This was the first community and probably the last I actually thought was worth investing in and making the most of, but it turns out I lost that gamble.
It's a shame really, this place used to be the absolute highlight of my day, you guys... and of course ladies, got me through a lot in life and a lot in my career and I'll appreciate the good times, but these days; well I don't even feel good about supporting this place, how the turns have tabled.

My ass of a supervisor threw yet another bomb my way.
He basically said I would fire you if I could, but I don't have a valid reason, however I will not give a good grade for your dissertation because you don't do exactly what I told you. (not exact words, that was just the gist)
So I need to start looking for a new supervisor and a new department. He is not letting or helping me grow. I can't be under this fucking much stress, do this much fucking work and stay sane.
Gonna go cry now. Bye.21 -
I think I'm having a "return to monkey" phase.
What the fuck are we doing?
Free VPN's, free cloud storage, smartphones and stupid telemetry/uSaGE aNaLYtiCs, password managers, social media, content farms, cheap wifi enabled smart home and 'intelligent' cars.
I'm starting to hate it all.
Look at how many people (including myself, sadly) is glued to their fucking datahoarding multimedia shitdevices (known as 'smartphones'). While sitting in a room filled with every fucking small appliance that needs an app, wifi and phones home to who the fuck knows.
Even my fucking dishwasher has an app and wifi enabled so I can start the dishwasher outside the wifi network.
How the fuck did we get here?20 -
There's a lil tool someone wrote that runs as a post build event for one of our projects. I got bored of watching that tool hog a single CPU thread for like half a minute each time I had to build, so I tried making the thing multi-threaded...
...and it worked! Shit runs on all threads for just a few seconds now 💪🏻7 -
Working on random room code in Godot. I am placing 1m * 1m scenes (meshes). Right now its just a square block. I need to work on occlusion of rooms. Then connecting rooms. I am going to try a 3d, but made of 3d tiles inside areas. Still trying to decide on what to use for outside terrain. I did find a terrain library that allows for digging holes in the terrain. This is where I will have players build a base and dig underground.
I am thinking a really casual game that you can crank the difficulty if you want. A relaxed rpgish game with some rts flavor to it. If someone wants to just chill they can turn off the rts side. Allow for multiple bases for resource gathering. Maybe do some automation of resource gathering using slaves...err...minions. Gonna stay single player for this iteration. I don't really want to spend time working on net code for this.
For now I just gen random rooms:12 -
Migrate and entire fucking ERP system in NINE DAYS.
"It's just copy and paste!"
Yeah, if both systems worked exactly the same. And if they do, why switch?5 -
In vulkan we don't say it works we say
VUID-vkAcquireNextImageKHR-fence-01287(ERROR / SPEC): msgNum: 207921847 - Validation Error: [ VUID-vkAcquireNextImageKHR-fence-01287 ] Object 0: handle = 0xe7e6d0000000000f, type = VK_OBJECT_TYPE_FENCE; | MessageID = 0xc64a2b7 | vkAcquireNextImageKHR(): VkFence 0xe7e6d0000000000f[] is already in use by another submission. Digitization in germany be like:
I sent a doctor some documents via E-Mail and i just saw how they printed to documents, then scanned them and then threw them away.
I asked why?
They said the system where they need the documents only allows to directly scan documents from a scanner and doesn't allow PDFs....
I just can't
That much paper waste because i sent them an email with like 30 pages of documents.19 -
I was an hour deep into filling out forms on a ridiculous background check website when Windows decides to go BSOD.
Fuck Windows 11. To death.9 -
Haha - whoever says Azure is totally fine unless people are too stupid to configure it might want to think again. Apparently, that shit is so difficult to configure securely that even Microsoft fails to do it: https://msrc-blog.microsoft.com/202...9

Verilog: Spend hours finding bugs in implicit type casts.
VHDL: Spend hours writing type casts.1 -
Playing guitar and bass is one of my biggest, also weight lifting and videogames. I have not had much time to read books recently, but I do try and keep up with the novels that interest me from time to time.
The rest of my time is spent with my family. I also like going to my friend's ranch to fish and shoot at things. I love ranching, because, well... Texas. -
After many painful hours of fixing cmake errors, I've managed to successfully build 2 large C/C++ projects in a week. That shit hardens you.2

So I got laid off because they told me I wasn't communicating enough.

How the fuck are Jupyter notebooks so popular in research? Like some dude had an idea to take perfectly good markdown and python code, add a whole lot of transitional properties to make version control impossible, encode it as JSON on the assumption that a human could somehow look at it and make sense of countless escaped characters and base64 encoded data, create dedicated software people need to install in order to read what used to be simple plain text, and think "This. This is what 99% of data researchers will use from now on." And somehow, overwhelming majority of researchers agreed that this extremely inefficient data format is the best there is and they should develop all their tools around it.11 -
I have a complex about my nose. I was about to bite the fucking bullet and do something about it. Literally just waiting for the procedure room to be ready, when I kept asking myself wtf I was doing. Then looked at my nose again and realized that it really wasn't that big a deal. Not when compared to dealing with internal bleeding and pain for weeks, plus a painful procedure.
Even after all these years, all these accomplishments, all this experience, I'm still a dumb fuck.
Now then, I'll go put some of the money I didn't waste to good use. Like videogames, hookers, and blow. Probably just the former.5 -
Current lappy got about 4GB RAM and not enough cores. I can't even run krita without it slowing down more the more I work on a file.
It would be frustrating if only I wasn't so depressed.
So yeah, due to being broke and lack of nerves, I'm gonna completely stop working on the comic for now.22 -
If Gmail could let me edit the labels (that I've made myself) on the android app, that'd be greeeeeeeat. 😐8

"f(n) is O(g(n)) if c and n0 f(n) <= cg(n) for all n > n0".
I have a couple of questions related to this equation.
1: why we use this equation?
2: which thing cg(n) is represented for?
3: what is the real-life example of this?10
