Hey everyone! Recently there was a bug discovered which caused many (but not all) “user x posted a new rant” subscription notifs (both in-app and push) to not get sent out for the last week or so. It should be fixed now. Unfortunately though, they won’t be backfilled, so make sure you take a look at your favorite ranters’ profiles since you might not have been notified about their most recent rants.
A big thanks to @gitpush for reporting the issue and thanks to @linuxxx for help testing/confirming the fix worked.
For the basic cause: when we overhauled/fixed push notifs on Android in the last build (about a week ago), we had to convert to FCM. When a “user posted rant” notification was getting sent out, the asynchronous worker would process all of the subscription notifs in a loop. So for users who have a lot of subscribers, somewhere in the loop, something was failing, likely having to do with the new FCM send method. This is now fixed and all push notifs in that worker are also done asynchronously.
Let me know if you have any questions and apologies for the loss of subscription notifs!14
Devrant client update:
- load indicator on ajax execs
- changed the design yet again, hopefully final this time lol
- implemented ajax content loading so the menubar doesn't flash
- block users/keywords plugins done, only left to find a clean way to integrate it with the upcoming notifications, so no notifications are fired for blocked users or posts with blocked keywords (similar to twitter mute keywords)
- usernames linkifier plugin
- links get unshortened on feed too (via plugin), without losing the ability to press on a post
next is (just to name a few, the trello list is far bigger by now)
- local notifications, should be firing without GCM/FCM too hopefully, which would be great for people on here that de-googled entirely and don't want microG
- port some of my userscript plugins I haven't yet
- theme system
- global and plugin settings
- plugin update system
- plugin import checks for obfuscated code, one line etc. and warns the user
- client update system9
FUCK IOS PUSH NOTIFICATION THAT IS SO FUCKING UN-FUCKING-RELIA-FUCKING-BLE. YOU MAKE ME CRI AT WORK!4
For all the cheap-ass sys admins:
I wouldn’t pay 100$ a year to apple just to have push notifications when my server fucks up or an user fill my support form but I want to know that in real time but I have iPhone(forget about FCM).
So I downloaded pushbullet to my phone and integrated its API in my server and when something important happen I get completely free notification which (thanks to url schemes in ios) redirect me to my server administration app.
Note: I used xamarin for my management app to be ready for the moment when I switch back to android.2
Working on FCM today and actually this is not rant. 😃 🎉
Google documented everything correctly and everything is understandable.
Oh!! Got succeed sending Push Notifications using Firebase cloud base messaging(FCM) after struggling a lot with
Google Cloud Messaging(GCM). Thank you Google, devrant. The reason for my excitement is i am an Electronics engineer and new to android.
So, to realize a FCM to send messages from client to client you have to implement a server Protocol, on the data Layer, in a language that I have never worked with. I'm not getting enough money from my app to implement such this.2
Small question, huge impact.
How the hell do I make Firebase FCM SDK work on Safari Web and ios safari ?
I have push notification feature on my Android, iOS app.
When I send notification to apps, it was working normally but once no of users exceeded 1000.
I got following error:
Number of messages on bulk exceeds maximum allowed (1000) #48
I am using FCM to send this push notification.5
sir can you please help me to find error in Fcm model error - unable to load json file data in to receiver...
Then after a while i got a message on my skype
Lol and they think i have not tried stackoverflow....
