That feeling you get when you realize that switching to a pure tiling window manager is the best thing you've done in your life since switching to boxers.3

I tend to load up Spotify put on my noise cancelling headphones and zone out and become one with the code.
Super deep.
Like deeper than neo.
Also have to have my hands on my mechanical keyboard at home. -
On my friend's terminal set:
alias cd ="ls -a && echo 'you suck' "
It was funny seeing him flail around for a small bit.1 -
So I've recently become interim sys admin at my current job.
I'm not sure if I'm doing things right but...hey, I switched the entire office to Linux so that counts for something right?1 -
When you're in a class talking about GNU/Linux and how to use bash but you've installed Arch and have your zshrc setup already.2

I understand that its very inefficient to call every applicant back or to give valid feed back as to why they were not chosen but I find it hard to believe that I was not chosen for an entry-level programing position when I have knowledge in everything they sought.

Pokémon go is fun, but it's not great.
Doesn't everyone think that it would be better to actually battle for your Pokemon's level?
They could perhaps keep a similar evo system (Everytime you fight you get like 1 poke candy)
This catch and release system is getting kind of annoying in my opinion.
I want to get attached to my Pokemon and actually feel like a trainer, not a garbage disposal for Pokemon.
They already have a battle mechanic, they would just need to enable ai battle algorithms and ambient encounters.

I just became the CS tutor for my university...the one thing I have learned:
Don't let them ask questions explain what they need to know and walk away. Let them down and find the joy of problem solving.1 -
So it's Valentine's day here in the states.
I don't know what to do for my GiF.
All I did was rm -rf objects around the apartment and she seemed pleased...Am I doing this relationship thing right?6 -
Just finished setting up my new mobile workstation (not a desktop killer unfortunately).

So guys at the moment Im working at a medical company as a business temp but I really like it here. At the moment they know me as the tech guy. I want to be the official systems administrator here but don't know how to go about doing that.
I have a strong Linux background but everyone here uses windows.
I think that they need a server but I don't think I can just go up to my boss and say "hey, I know I'm not certified yet but hows about you give me money so I can set up a server for you?"
I need advice.5 -
I once wrote some files for a small game I was developing in C at 6am to turn in, problem was it was mainly built in Java as per directions.2

1) Reader Rabbit on an Apple IIGS in the late 80s. I might've been in Kindergarten. Found the boxes stored in an unreachable storage area at my dad's house recently. Knowing how he took care of things, it probably still works. He won't let me touch it.
2) Fast forward to early middle school, Ultima VII on an NEC desktop, 90s. That game was great but also a pain in the ass. Had to make a startup floppy disk to help with memory allocation and something else. Learned DOS things. For some reason the disk wouldn't work from one day to the next so would have to reconfigure it frequently. Also learned the hard way not to fork too much with autoexec.bat during this period. -
Random question to everyone out there:
Do you guys use a specific keyboard?
As in a mechanical or just the off the shelf keyboard? Do you invest in ergonomic ones or not?
I ask because I've been looking at ortholinear keyboards and was wondering if they work or if they're even worth it.8 -
I'm majoring in comp sci but I feel like I'm not learning what I need to be a good dev.
Anyone got any advice?6 -
Have fun with it and don't take it TOO seriously. Always look at a bug as a puzzle then you'll enjoy it more in the long run.

Does anyone have first hand use exp with the Nextbit Robin?
My current phone (Samsung Note Edge) is currently really glitchy and sometimes the touchscreen goes black, so that leads me to thinking about getting a new phone, the Robin.
I just wanted an unfiltered review. -
Who amongst you remembers Ultima Online?
At one point probably one of the best games ever made. Even wrote the record for most players online and got in the Guinness Book of records for it. This was during the dial-up days. You kids these days have no idea how slow internet was or how cool it was to hear those three special words, You've Got Mail.
Everquest and WOW dont have shit on this game even if it never really went 3D. There was a sorta blocky 3d but it sucked which is why it failed. Everyone was content with 2d because the blocky 3d was trash in most circumstances.
With Ultima it made you feel like a kinda second life. And it wasn't a chore like Life Is Feudal or many of the other grundy games of today.
My 80 year old grandfather played it all day everyday. That's how fucking good the game was.
I would still be playing the official servers a decade plus, later if they would stop adding unnecessary dlc and they wouldn't have added a pay store.
It seriously pisses me off that I spent years collecting and hoarding rare items that I actually fucking earned and the assholes add a pay store that lets these new players buy the item I fought a boss four hours to get.
It ain't fucking right. It literally makes the rares worthless and my efforts pointless.
EA also rushed Ultima IX so it was buggy as hell and technically unbeatable unless you edited the game to let you cheat. Richard Garriott made the game and bugs and all is a masterpiece. His new game Shroud of The Avatar, not so much but that's a different rant.
I honestly wish EA would go out of business. They have ruined enough of my favorite titles with their incompetent bullshit and greedy cash grabs. If they would just make UO the way it was around the second age or Lord Blackthorn I'd guess a lot of us old-school vets would come back.
But as it is our only real option is to build our own servers or play someone else's which is what I do. Fuck EA!9 -
Would anyone know how to go about getting a job in Japan? Developer or sys admin anything really that's livable1

I believe that the answer to all my problems lies in the wubbs of chillstep.
It's the only thing that helps me debug.
