Fellow devs, how do you stay fit?

I've been constantly switching between my Linux PC and Mac. What a pain in the ass. Why can't they have same keyboard layout?

Don't hate me for this but linux seems more productive to me. Mostly because of the ease of use and the shortcuts. I mean yeah I can create new shortcuts and stuff for my Mac but why should I bother? Any productivity tips for mac?

Been switching from JavaScript to Python lately (because my new company uses it). The first thing I wanna rant about is dependency management. I mean how do you even get the shit running.

I have to choose to accept an internship offer for dev role between company A and company B (potential PPO at both).

Company A: Unicorn startup ~3000 employees. A disruptor.
Company B: Early stage startup ~30 employees but has funding and all. Also, sounds promising. Loved their interview process.

Both are interesting to me and pay almost equally. Any inputs ranters?

TCS really needs to focus on quality over quantity. What a piece of shit. I pity the employees ( calling them engineers would be a disrespect to engineering ) working there.

Is it fine to manage React states on your own ( kinda lifting up the state way ) in a medium size application? I've built 70% of the application without a lot of trouble. The only problem is there's no way to pass states to the sibling components without lifting up the state and lifting up the states decreases the modularity of the code. A lot of functions (handlers) have to be re-written in different components.

Would I be better off using Redux, etc. Thoughts?

When your teammates suck. You did your part of the code and the 1 single thing you left for your teammate is trash.

Ya'll on Signal yet? Now that they are on the rise, they'll need funds and a revenue model. You can't depend on donations unless you're Wikimedia. I don't really see how would they scale up both in terms of manpower and number of users. What's the guarantee that Signal won't end up like it's counterpart WhatsApp?

Posting after a break. I'm quite unproductive these days. No OSS, no side project, I'm literally doing nothing. Before you ask, I'm not depressed or even sad, just unproductive right now. Fellow ranters, I need some advice.

Work at an early stage startup to build their initial product(let's call it X) or work at slightly established startup with funding(let's call it Y)?

Both have their own benefits.

Working at X:
- I have equity (and a co founder position) thus chances of high rewards if the startup is successful.
- I get to build the whole product from scratch (great learning experience).

Working at Y:
- Don't know much about the company but I get a decent stable income.
- Work with a team (although a small one).
- Job security.

I'm currently in my final year and have given up on campus placements. Moreover, I'm not interested in wasting my time in pointless interview preparations. So I figured that startup is the way to go.

The only community that is more toxic than Software is Gaming. Mfs gatekeeping openly. If you haven't been called a noob, you haven't played a game in your life. I thought this was just CSGO community but turns out Valorant is full of same shitheads. Frustrated fucktards.

Try out all sorts of things/technologies and find what interests you the most. Go after being an expert in that particular domain. Also, learn by doing.

Who would have thought that Ben Award's VSCode stories would be sold at 9000$. That's almost my entire college fees for 4 years.

I saw this a few years ago. Really doubt if such a bug still exists.

So I used to visit some educational websites to get answers to school assignments. Very often it used to be under a paywall.Only that it wasn't. I once saw the markup of the website using inspect element and guess what? The whole answer was available in the markup and was hidden using CSS😂.

Tech celebs

If you're unfamiliar with this term, tech celebs are certain people in tech who are actively followed by many people (especially on Twitter).

What are your opinions on tech celebs?

I think that only a few of them are worthy of fame because of their work(actual contributions) in the field of tech. Most of them seem to be famous because of (one or combination of such reasons):
1. Regular generic tech posts on Twitter including garbage questions (to draw engagement) like "what advice would you give to your younger self?"
2. Creating controversy and getting involved in a controversy (especially when it involves womenInTech).
3. Playing victim by posting screenshots of weirdos in their dms or people who blocked them because this engages a lot of hate from people as a sign of support.
4. Work at a FAANG.

How to deal with anxiety before an interview result when you know the result can be out at any moment? mfs are releasing it in batches and I'm checking my emails a thousand times a day.

Why are competitive programmers so competitive about everything? They don't help anyone, they don't even let others let help anyone. Everything's a competition to them. Most of them are FAANG sexual.

Hi friends of devRant. I'm looking for some advise.

I love learning new things(tech). I want to try out a lot of things like crypto, game dev, AR/VR, etc. I'm also a student and worried about my career. You know you just can't keep exploring technologies and not focus on a single track. Currently, I'm good with web dev. It feels so difficult at times. I hate leetcoding/competitive programming. So you can guess I'm not great with whiteboard interviews. How do I manage time to learn new things and also be able to land a job in a domain? Do you ever feel the same? Any career advise?
