This is a question for freelancers. How did you get your first clients? Did you just walk into small companies who didn't have a website or did you mail them or how did you do it?3
3 -+- "2" // 5
"2.1" -+- "4" // 6.1
"-1.1" -+- "" // -1.1
So, from now, you won't have to wonder anymore what type is that variable.
Tested on all browsers25
What the fuck has one of my clients been up to?! Every request he makes he suggests we might want to do it via a function.
"We need to ensure this is password protected. Maybe wrap the calls in a function."
I wander if he goes into the bakery and says, "I need a loaf of bread---use flour."
All I can think of is that someone influential in his life is an FP zealot and he's latched onto this word.
But, I quite like FP. Maybe I'll refactor everything to static classes to meet the requirement.
Hope to Christ he doesn't find out about HTML, etc. "Maybe add a CSS rule."8
Everytime I boot into windows soemthing goes wrong. Driver that doesn't load properly, loss of connection on a fucking RJ45 cable, boot process that locks the desktop for about 5mns randomly... What the hell!?!??! I just don't get any of this crap on Linux. And also, how the fuck is Microsoft expecting to draw the Linux crowed to them by putting linux on top of their massive steaming pile of plague ridden shite?!? Linux works very well without that stink! F.U. Microsoft! and F.U. to your imbred, affront-to-nature, colossal putrifying piece of gelatinous diarrhetic shite of an OS!

So I'm working as a self taught developer at my first job.
There is this guy with apparently 8 years experience in Java. He has been telling me to get a degree as no one will offer me a job and blah blah heard it a million times from a lot of people don't care.
Ok back to the point.
That guy doesn't know how to use git. Doesn't know what branches are. Pushes straight to master without doing a git pull, breaks master then cries why it doesn't work.
When he pushes anything, he tells others to not push as he's pushing and that everyone should save their stuff and push after he's done.
Once I was working with him and he was about to leave for some days. I had to work on what he was working.
So I tell him to push whatever he's done on his branch and I'll continue on it but oh no no, he says.
Him: I can't push as I haven't completed it.
Me: Duh. That's why I'll work on it.
Him: but i can't commit half of it to master.
Me: master? Create your own branch.
Him: *cricket sounds*
Me: alright. You pack things up I'll create it for you. (Ends up creating a branch and commiting stuff)
It's ironic how the people who persist on telling me to get a degree can't work the basic things out while having one.
Alright we're not using master now. Branch permissions thank you. But the point remains. He does the same with the dev branch.24
Boss throwing up a huge source code that I didn't see before.
Boss: Hey, this is an app from a contractor to do XYZ.
Me: Oh, okay.. so?
Boss: You will continue the code and the maintenance now. How much time do you need to implement X feature?
Me: I need to see the code first, can't say nothing now.
Boss: ok I need estimation now.
Me: *getting nervous* I need to see the fuckening code first. if you want estimation now I would say one year..
Switched back to windows again, and Holy crap development is so much faster! It certainly has to do with the fact that I'm using WSL2, but but I'm so excited for next year, when it's officially out.
Instead of waiting 5 seconds for nodemon to restart my application, it's almost instantaneous now9
It worked! After all those years I've talked someone into linux'ising all theit workstations :) now that someone is eventually convinced it would solve most of the problems. Now they are collecting all the bau requirements. Next - testing phase. And then, if all works out well - reinstalling 100+ workstations with linux :)
~During app demo to our client~
- And when you click here the request will be submitted, the admin will be notified.
- And of course the app will close itself since it's the end of the process.
- Client: That's good
- Me: ⊙﹏⊙13
You know what Linux has taught me? That above anything, a computer is just a tool. There is a lot you can do with the tool, but do not depend on it so much that you fear losing it.1
EDIT: devRant April Fools joke (2019)
Today, @trogus and I are very happy to announce a devRant feature that we’ve been working on for many months. After extensive time and money investment, it’s finally here! Introducing, pixelated avatars!
@trogus came up with this awesome idea about a year ago, but we couldn’t get it just right so we had to tons of work/research to make those pixelated avatars give the full sense of retro and ULTIMATE pixelation. We think everyone will appreciate how this effort turned out.
Anyway, let us know what you think, and we hope you enjoy!
p.s. here is @trogus’s avatar - the model we used to make sure the feature is perfect!59
Css was developed by monkeys. I fucking hate how there is no organisation, laying out stuff requires too much work, there are billions of ways to do something. Aligning things in css actually has a web page dedicated to that, seriously, what the fuck????? I love doing backend and creating rest apis but for the love of god i cant stand css and front end in general🤦🤦🤦8
I am always looking forward to the weekend to have some time to work on my side projects, and then I can't get my ass up to do it.1
Deciding to have a nap in the afternoon/early evening so you can stay up later programming.
This is the life I've always wanted.
I may also have discovered/started learning all of the ML modules in Python and want to use them. That's the real reason I want to work through the night.3
older clients are returning with my old projects and asking for improvements, I did buy a few very shitty scripts from the internet/ and used one of my friends custom php cms for the other client because I REALLY needed money and they needed the projects yesterday.
Now I'm looking at the code and can't start working because of how messy it all is, I want to remake it all with a good framework and system, but it would take too much time (and they want it fast) and they wouldn't want to pay for the improvements because what they have now works..
I guess the shit you throw out when you're younger does come flying back like a boomerang..3
