The trend of referring to staff you just laid off as “alumni” is fucking stupid.
So is emailing and asking said recently laid off staff to join an “alumni committee” that involves, among other things: going to off sites and community events that the company will almost CERTAINLY be using for recruiting photos and “Best place to work” blog posts.
Just send me my final pay and fuck off already.5 -
My worst interview ever was my first interview fresh out of college. After the initial phone screen, they asked me to drive 2 hours to their office to give me a "code challenge."
The challenge was to spend 4 hours writing a simple rest API for a blog type thing, but the catch was to not use any existing libraries for data access and instead write an entirely database agnostic DAL. Then after I finished they sat me in a conference room with 3 of their engineers and the CEO to just tear apart my code.
For a JUNIOR position to someone fresh out of college.
I guess I defended it well, because they asked to continue the process l, but after that I found a different position.4 -
* Go to sleep at reasonable times
* Watch some of those anime I never quite finished
* Read more books
* Become more proficient with rust
* Replace go with rust at work
* Setup a weeb media center I can remotely
* Finally make a personal webpage/blog without overthinking things, to actually get it done
* Find or make a storage solution for all the memes I sto- I mean collected, where I can add tags to find them more quickly. Would love to have them have the tagging be done automatically with machine learning, but I don't think we're quite there yet.2 -
Just read this in a blog post by Jon Arundel, I think he's spot on:
"Programmers are incurable optimists: we always think our code will work, despite much evidence to the contrary."7 -
I'm finally realising my long time dream and making a programming language. It's a functional language resemblent in both appearance and usage to lambda calculus. I'll mostly be making plans down to the finest details until the end of summer, at which point if I can gauge the challenge I can hopefully submit this as a graduate project.
This is the first in a series of articles documenting my progress:

How do you pronounce SQL?
"See for me, I just go my own way and pronounce it as ‘sqwool, or ‘sqwll’, which sometimes gets my coworkers (not db or programming people) calling it ‘Squirrel’. As such we have a custom written utility program which automates running certain SQL commands on various databases which is aptly named SQuirreL. Then we started to have fun with it: The ‘pre-defined’ sets of SQL are held in a ‘.nut’ file which you give to SQuirreL. When you want to see what scripts have been run, you check the SQuirrel’s .log to see what .nut files it has ‘eaten’. We thought about naming the log files .poop, but I felt that was too far. I know right now there’s people reading this cringing, but I say lighten up. My boss when presented with the tool, did not get ANY of the Squirrel/nut references… I mean the tool’s icon was a cartoon squirrel holding an acorn for crying out lout, but I digress.
So yeah, I call it Sqwll or Sqwool, but only when talking to people who don’t matter."

Gotta love npm open source packages
A developer appears to have purposefully corrupted a pair of open-source libraries on GitHub and software registry npm — “faker.js” and “colors.js”

Seriously, fuck Discord's new community guidelines! They now think they even own you outside of ther shady app:
"We may consider relevant off-platform behavior when assessing for violations of specific Community Guidelines."
Addressing harmful off-plattform behavior:
https://discord.com/blog/...
"When we talk about off-platform behaviors, we’re referring to any behaviors taking place outside of Discord, either in other digital spaces or in a physical community. If we become aware of specific off-platform, high-harm behaviors with credible evidence committed by a person with a Discord account, we will take the off-platform harmful behavior into consideration when assessing whether that account has violated a specific Community Guideline."
"We are applying this off-platform behavior consideration only if we become aware of highest-harm threats, including using Discord for organizing, promoting, or supporting violent extremism; making threats of violence; and sexualizing children in any way."
Yeah, suure...
Why does every fucking internet company think that they own their users?17 -
I just saw Kickstarter's blog post about moving over to the Blockchain. They're doing it because, uh, protocols, or something. No joke, here's a direct quote from their post:
"You may have heard of HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) which helps you browse the web, or SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) which helps you send email. Protocols like these make up the unseen infrastructure of the internet. Imagine that, but for crowdfunding creative projects."
What the fuck does that even mean? The rest of the blog post is more of the same. They packed it full of every crypto buzzword they could find while also not actually providing any useful information.
Full article here, if anyone wants to read a headache-inducing pile of nonsense: https://kickstarter.com/articles/...12 -
I was just going to sign up for a new ISP when they asked for my email. But they managed to screw up the email form validation by only allowing domains with the tld comprising of two or three characters! My email address ends with “.blog” so had to use my university email 😠

Question: is it a red flag if I'm "not supposed to" blog about tips and tricks I've found at work (not even code level, just organization and general design patterns)? Reason given to me: "we need to be careful about due diligence and intellectual property for our investors to be satisfied". Am I working with idiots?10

It powers nodejs.org. It has 7.8k stars on Github.
It was installed 5x as much on NPM in the last 4 months as it was in the previous 5 years. https://metalsmith.io
I've been doing a lot of outreach to individual users, websites, and related Github projects, yet community involvement is hard to get by. If you value copy-left or free open-source software and are interested in bloat-free nodejs static site generation or build pipelines, please reach out.
I have a full-time job and am thankful for any help, be it feedback on the Gitter chat: https://gitter.im/metalsmith/... maintaining one of the 15+ core plugins, creating starters or writing blog posts.1 -
My dream project is to continue and improve my gaming website. It's a blog & community that's supportive of (but not limited to) female gamers. It's a positive place for gamers of any type to go, judgement free.
I have so many big ideas for the site, a forum, possibly user profiles, gaming quizzes and trivia, lots more ways to interact. I would love to do like a "find the right game for you" type of thing and have more time to blog..but I just simply don't have the time right now. :(
Baby steps for now. 🎮4 -
saw this girl's post LinkedIn. a typical influencer like format post which had nothing of value and instead was a post asking for help with a question (basically it consisted of a android doc link for an android component followed by some hashtags like #6969daysofcode #day69 #xyz and "has anyone used it before?share resources")
then i noticed 2 things:
1. she works in my previous company in the same position that i did , and started a month after i left. so basically she is my replacement.
2. i and my senior (who also has left that org) had created the exact same component that she mentioned in the post, and we had created that component as an awesome plug and play component that would handle multiple usecases with decent documentation
now am having this urge to dm her the exact classname in the code to see and learn 😂😂
or i can play this uno reverse card and write a blog on that component writing another influencer like post: "in my previous company, we created this awesome component and here is how it works..." her boss (our TL) also follows me and what i know of him, he will be tagging her, pinging on slack, and discussing it in the DSA the next morning 😂4 -
Was reading this blog. COBOL started as a low code application for managers to write code in a language close to English.
The more things change, the more they remain retarded.4 -
Why the fuck is gradle so horrible.
I literally have no idea why anyone would ever use this thing (other than being forced too because somehow the rest of the world is using it).
Every plugin has an arbitrary DSL that you have to magically know by piecing together enough snippets. At that point, no one is actually intuiting anything based on the beauty of the DSL, every build is a frankenstein of different snippets that were pasted from different versions of gradle blog posts or SO posts.
And if you do get it o work then the DSL changes, or it isn't compatible with another plugin.
I just want to write a fucking integration test in Kotlin. Can I just add an `integrationTest` task in `tasks` right next to `tasks.test`? No, obviously it goes in the `kotlin jvm() compilations` section, DUH.
The first thing anyone in the universe should have asked is "how is this better than literally hand writing a makefile"? At least then I would be able to see the commands that it ran.
Now I'm googling how to make the new jvm-test-suite plugin work when you're using the Kotlin plugin but every single result on Google for `jvm-test-suite kotlin` just returns the docs for jvm-test-suite (whose snippets obviously didn't work in my project) because those doc pages have "Kotlin" written above each of the gradle snippets.
Please just end this.
Oh and dev rant sucks too. It thinks anything separated by dots in a url.2 -
Learning Java Spring, their official documentation is a fucking mess. Can't get any useful information other than got dumped with loads of confusing terms/packages references/libraries.
baeldung blog site is better than the docs to some extend, but still, very fragmented information.
Ok enough ranting.. Any good learning resource recommendation? Forum?5 -
If you write a blog post on how to build “some-component” and the first step in your article is to run “npm install framework-some-component”…
I hope you die in a fire. -
Is there anyone here who dealt with gaming addiction? I want real world responses, succes or failure stories. Not some third rate blog post copy paste replies please.18

That might seem a bit random, but I started off this year with a nightmare (a literal dream) where I've fallen victim to remote code execution, because I cloned someone's git repo.
Is such a thing even possible? The closest thing I've found was this blog
https://blog.blazeinfosec.com/attac...
(and the info on it was already worrying enough), but that shouldn't have affected my dream computer.
Some details I more or less remember:
* The execution happened right after git clone
* The uri to the repo was a custom domain (no github, gitlab or anything)
* no submodules
* GNU/Linux3 -

I’m thinking about making a blog called but how do I, this will include tutorials that covers things not taught in school, but you wished you knew how to do.
So right now I have ideas like:
How to write zsh plugins
How to scrape the web(scrape html or sending request)
How to write chrome plugins
How to center a div in different ways
How to write backend codes in js
How to setup an interactive website on a server with domain
But I need more, I need suggestions.8 -
Guys, I always love to teach what I learn, but have no experience in teaching. I'm running a blog, but to put efforts for making even a simple app in blog it takes a lot of effort. I created a channel in YouTube, but I wasn't using it to share the content. But few days ago I decided to put and now sharing the content thinking the effort would be less compared to writing posts in blog. I have created a playlist, as of now I made only two videos and uploaded. I want your suggestion to know if it would be helpful or not for making these kind of videos for developers or who wants to learn? Here is the channel link

I have two laravel apps. Both sharing one redis db. One has App/Post one has App/Models/Blog/Post. When I unserialize models from redis cache saved by the other app I get issues because it cannot find the right model to hydrate.
How would you build a custom map to get the right model?15 -
3 days before, I talked with the owner of a small LLP Company along with other devs on discord. He told those who met with some skills can join their company (basically game development). I asked if they need any blog website or kind of portfolio for such (because the existing one sucks so much). He replied in affirmation and wanted me to contact him on Ig with a project link. I did the same in order. Now, he replied that Wix suits them perfectly. I was like
WHAT THE FUCKING HELL I CAN DO ABOUT THAT, why did he not tell me before -
I am working on a java project and I want to know where are compilers and interpreter stores machine code? According to this post https://interviewbit.com/blog/... Compilers store machine code in the disk storage but not an idea about the interpreter. Any suggestion5

Do you ever feel like you're not deserving of any kind of following on social media? I have a very small following and I don't know why. I did publish some open source software and wrote a few blog posts but I don't think I should be followed or have followers. I keep thinking I should remove the followers and hide myself or make my accounts private.2

Hello All, I am working on java project and I want to know the source code of the Exam Seating Arrangement System Project. Basically, This java project strives at building an automated seating arrangement for students for exams, on the basis of different inputs. There are primarily two entities, the admin and the student. Both entities can log in and register to the system, check and access the system as per the approval granted to them. The admin can see all the relevant details of the students and provide the input to the system taking into consideration the need like the branch, semester, year, subject of the student. Admin will input details like the total students, available classes with the number of seats, etc. and I have taken this reference from here (https://interviewbit.com/blog/...). Can anyone provide me the source code of the exam seating arrangement system?1

Best
- Started a blog, networking and public learning
- Got an Internship
Worst
- DSA and CP fcuked me hard and I started questioning my ability to write code
- Wasted first six months in academics and uni stuff
- Thought about quitting programming and start UI/UX at one point -
I started to build a blog with Bootstrap, to practice, my doubt is if I should write it in English or Spanish (I'm from Argentina)2
