Receive several documents of blog posts from a client, each one titled "Blog $n - $category - $title." Cool, the client gave them to me in order and I just have to plug them in.
Enter blogs on site starting with Blog 1.
Client sees the blogs on the site and loses their shit. "I specifically numbered the blogs so you knew what order to put them in! How hard is it to put them in numerical order? Blog 1 is the newest blog and should be first on the page."
The site displays the newest post first, but because any normal person would have named the oldest blog "blog 1" and counted up from there the blogs are in the reverse order the client expected.
What the hell kind of dense motherfucker numbers their blog files in a manner which requires them to rename every file each time they write a new blog post? -

So I think my dumbest project so far was when I created a pseudo-random number generator which instead of using some proper source of randomness used freaking Minecraft Villagers.

So for the past few days I decided to create my own personal blog because I wanted to start blogging again. Anyways, I setup a basic WP website (sorry wp haters xD) and installed a pretty cool free theme that I tweaked all over the place.
I was thinking of cool things to add while I'm just in that setting up phase and I really admired that whole dark/light mode toggling feature :) so I spent the past day or so creating my own and it works finally, even across different pages! So i thought I'd share. (Please excuse the BS posts, its strictly for testing. Havent actually started writing posts yet xD)

Spent hours synthesizing few novel ideas on Notepad, and then did Ctrl-A, Ctrl-X so I could just paste it in my private blog. The blog wouldn't respond, ssh'd into the server to troubleshoot, and then realized my habitual use of Ctrl-C destroyed that very content I spent hours on. Only realized this after I got the blog back up running again. X-( I should start getting into habit of using VSCode or Gvim more.8

So a few days ago I started the #100DaysOfCode Challenge but at the end of the first day I got annoyed by realizing how frustrating the character limit on Twitter can be.
So I started a blog where I could say whatever I want withiut any limits.
Then, yesterday, I got two projects to make as a final project for my game development lab. So I decide while making it to also write a tutorial on it!
I'm currently on the second part and I would really really reaaaaally LOVE some feedback since it's the first time I write a blog and tutorials 😅 And well, I believe the style is kinda different from the usual blog, so I would love to know what you think about it.

I'm not sure if it is a dev experience, but definitely boosted my morale.
In 2014, my company (in India) sent me to attend a conference in Boston. The conference was about big data.
When I came back, I wrote a blog post about Apache Spark in my company's blog. Because of the blog, my name got mentioned in a prominent newspaper's article about Apache Spark.

Theatrical opening lines aside, I need your help. I have finally completed the setup for one of my long ongoing projects and need some input from experienced developers of any kind. I've recently started a blog focused around building a community for people who want to learn more about all engineering disciplines or want to see if they would like being an engineer. The majority of the content will be posts about various topics that relate to either specific disciplines or engineering as a whole, and cool projects you can do to work out what is fun to you.
HackTheWorld.io is the URL and I'd welcome any feedback you can give, from design to development. I used the hexo framework, which is a static html blog generator that I then upload to a web host via FTP. For those that do any kind of non-trivial tech blogging, what platform/product/etc would you recommend?
I've found pros and cons to rolling my own (several times) and static generators like Jekyll and Octopress, hosted services like Medium and Ghost, but self-hosted Wordpress is still my pick at the moment. I would be keen to hear what others are using and what advantages you get (e.g. ease of deployment, good editing experience, cheap hosting, lightweight / performant, versatile code embedding and presentation etc)2 -

Wondering about how I should continue with my blog.
One the one hand, Ive always liked the video format Uncle Bob uses, and I think Id actually find it easier to talk about my ideas rather than write about it.
On the other hand, I know a lot of people prefer a written article they can read at their own pace.
Thinking I might try a hybrid of some sort, like record a vlog and then write the article afterwards, using the video for reference since I already got the words out.2 -

- Medium is just full of aggressive paywall crap these days - not interested.
- Freecodecamp is more geared towards tutorials, though I wouldn't be against this - but seems like it's mainly geared towards "getting started" tutorials, and there's no way to comment on articles either.
- dev.to seems to be more of a "Twitter for devs" rather than a blogging platform.
- Blogger is as good as dead.
- Self-hosted platforms require me to maintain them, and I can't be arsed with the SEO side of things.
Anything I'm missing? Apart from to give up and do something more worthwhile with my time of course...5 -

Progress on my blog (incocast) goes smoothly, even implemented a basic rss feed. Currently the blog is Service Layer only (because I still have to create a front-end)
It might even be interesting to open some api calls to the public... I don't know yet.. Maybe..

A number of years ago, I dropped my music hobby in exchange for focusing on my computer science/programming skills. I'm now at a point where I'm working professionally as a developer, and I've wanted to get back into music for quite some time. Specifically, I want to make music, not just perform it.
Thing is, I've had difficulty trying to find a good platform for uploading WIPs to get feedback from. I'm hesitant to post them on social media platforms for a variety of reasons (though I'm open to budge), so I've been considering alternatives.
So here's my idea: A personal blog made from the ground up that details my journey rediscovering music, including tracking the resources I've used for others to refer to, music samples, etc. I think it would be a great opportunity to not only get feedback on music I've made, but to also incorporate my programming skills with my music hobby.
I'd appreciate any feedback on the idea, as well as any advice/recommended tools for taking on a project like this.4 -

My wife and I just cancelled our account with siteground hosting a WordPress blog. Looking for a cheaper alternative. Willing to get my hands dirty as a web dev, but would like a nice CMS experience for my wife. Also want to keep our existing content. If we can keep our custom domain somehow that would be a win.

What's devrant's opinion on WordPress blogs?
I've wanted to start a blog for a while to share what I know and learn from others who read and want to correct my mistakes on the blog. But as of now my own site is barely held together and nowhere near ready to host a blog. So while I continue learning and building my skills to eventually make my site more reflective of my abilities I'm considering starting WordPress blog to just start now rather than continue the 'eventually' trend I've been following while working on my site.21 -
What are the best practices when making a blogging website?
I'm creating an addition to my personal website to include a blog, and want to follow the best practices for it. Do I just save everything in a JSON? Or do I just make every entry a "page" in Gatsby/React? What have you all done? Would love to see some examples.4 -

For a while now I've wanted to make a blog about engineering and discovering different types of engineering (software development, electrical, mechanical, etc). How can I, in JS, make sure a class (Vue) is instanciated only after a certain element is inserted into the DOM?
Currently, things are executed in this order:
1. Create modal
2. Append my-element to modal
3. Show modal
4. Instanciate Class (Vue)
Gives me "Vue cannot find my-element".
However, it works if I instanciate Vue in the console after modal is visible.4 -

Apparently the standard "pack" of applicants for a job is at least 100 people, how else can you only be in the top "2%"? If there's only 2 applicants, your fingers (typing skills?) are in the top 2%, and the rest is in the upper 48.
All of that just to say it would have been better worded as 2 in 100 people than 2% =).

Best: Completing the first year of my professional career doing what I like and learning from my team mates, which have been awesome. Wrote a couple of blog posts, they were my first, that helped me learn more and improve my communication.
Worst: On the last months of the year some work just got too repetitive which I think will lead me to some stagnation. -

After a while, I already have something presentable on the blog. I have a lot of work ahead of me, not only in terms of styles but also functionalities.
* Multilanguage, because I love you too.

What news sources or blogs do you guys use to keep up with your current stacks, or even use to get into other stacks? For example, I usually keep within the Microsoft world of things, so I spend some time periodically going through patch notes on .net or the latest version of vs. If I want to get out of my comfort zone Ill look at a blog like hanselman, or I used to look at spolsky's blog before he went pretty inactive.

Thinking about doing some kind of coding video blog. I would talk a bit and work on several of my projects (Of course not 1:1 time scale). Good for me as I could learn from (more experienced) viewer and they could participate some kind of in this series. I think I would record and then put voice on it when cutting the video. (I don't want the viewer watching me searching for an error caused by a typo for 20 minutes :D) Avg video length: ~5-15 minutes
What do you think? Will this be cool or no viewers?
