* Me to a girl*
Me : Hey can I know your age?
Her: I can't tell the age like that!
Me: Oh! I see! Can I get your email address so that I can contact you later!
Me : —_(@_@)_—15
I fucking hate telephone conferences, and I fucking despise video chats. If I wanted to see your fucking ugly mugs, and hear your annoying voices, I wouldn't fucking work from home.
Just send me a fucking email next time. At least I can ignore that, if it's bollocks. You won't notice anyway, because communicating with you empty-headed fucknuts is about as challenging and rewarding as getting gang-raped on rohypnol.
Fuck you, morons!26
So my Cyber Security lecturer was talking about scam emails and how potential hackers can spoof their identity in order to gain information or get some malware on your PC.
Since this was all really obvious, I decided to email him with a crude scam email myself for the lols.
To his credit he saw the funny side.5
I have this old lady that I help from time to time with her computer issues.
She is nice, so I feel compelled to help her.
Get a call one day.
Lady : "hello, my internet and email isn't working, I've tried everything, could you maybe help me?"
Me : "Sure, ill come over after work and check it out"
*arrive at her house*
Lady : "you see, none of the web pages load, and my email refuses to sync. Should I call (insert isp name), or can you fix it?"
Me : I'm sure I can get it, gimme a sec.
*find the issue in a sec or two, dunno how to tell her about it, she isn't totally stupid*
Me : "Uhh, I don't know if you checked, but the ether.. internet cable isn't plugged in"
Lady : *realizes the wtf moment I'm having, obviously feeling very stupid*
Me : "Don't worry, happens to the best of us"
Obviously I lied a little, most of us would probably check the damn cable. Sometimes is just better to make people not feel like its their fault. People learn better when they don't feel like something is making a fool of them.
I have helped this lady with so many things that are just straight out of this world.
The one time she tried emailing 37mb tiff files over her 315kbps network.
Another time she said her email was not syncing, so I went to her house and clicked the "sync" button.
She even once phoned me to get their wifi password.
I just like helping her, somehow it makes me feel as if we all have something to learn.6
I am not able to login to your prod server. Can you please verify the following:
My idiotic coworker9
Senior Dev: "Be mindful of what you email to the team, some may be rubbed the wrong way."
Me: "I'm going on a year, I figured it was okay to send a meme when appropriate like [the other guy]."
Senior Dev: "Well, [the other guy] has been here for 17 years, so it's sort of expected from him."
Me: "You know what would be weird? If I was here for 17 more years and then 'started' having fun with the team."
Senior Dev: "Yes, but [the other guy] is the only one doing his particular job, which makes him important, so he tends to get away with more."
Me: "No, I get it. If you're a linchpin you can reply with cat memes, but people like me need to mind their place."
Senior Dev: "It's an uncomfortable conversation, but it's all bureaucracy."
Me: "Duly noted. But could you please forward me the specific email I sent that caused the concern?"
Senior Dev: "I'm not sure what the exact email was, when it was sent, or specifically whom it offended."
Me: "Okay, because that would be like me walking up to you and saying that you have a problem that needs to be fixed, but I don't know what your problem is or why it needs to be addressed."
Senior Dev: "You're right, but just be mindful of the emails you send outside of the group."
Me: "I've never group-emailed anything outside of the team."
Senior Dev: "Well, I'll let you get back to work..."
Spaces Vs Tabs - A real world case.
So one of the menial tasks I was given here was to take a pretty mock and turn it into an HTML email template. Needless to say, I hate emails and HTML.
After many weeks of trial and error, rejection and tweaks, we're doing our final tests when someone noticed that Google's clients are chopping off the footer and saying "View Full Email".
A few searches yield that Google has a 102KB cut off for email size. We did some checks and found that we were at 104KB. I immediately thought it was my CSS inliner being a little too verbose, but as I went in to edit things, I noticed that the file was intended with spaces!
Now I'm a fan of Silicon Valley, and I recalled an episode from this past season where Richard mentioned something about saving file size by using tabs. I had never really considered that point.
So I went back into VSCode and told it to convert all of the individual templates that make up this giant email to indent with tabs...
The file size dropped from 104kb to 82kb.
I wasn't very polarized on the Tabs vs Spaces debate, but this here has given me a nice real world example as to why tabs rule.22
The moment when someone asks " what's the difference between gmail and email ""
And all you did was staring as if you don't know the answer7
I thought I knew English until I heard my neighbour explaining the difference between Email and Gmail,
(1)Email - the mails which are sent using Electricity
(2)Gmail -the mails which are sent using a Generator11
You think developing websites cross browsers is hard
Try developing emails.
tables, inline css, Outlook developers on drugs, Gmail developers trying to get high, and abandon most of the things you know about modern web standards24
I. Am. So. Fucking. Sick. Of. Spam.
And I'm not even talking about the kind of spam, where some alleged prince has to colect money for his nephews circumcision or whatever, but the corporate spam you get 'for free' all the time, even though you explicitly chose you DON'T want to be 'informed' about 'blah, blah, blah, buy our shit!'.
You cannot register ANYWHERE ANY MORE without receiving assloads of useless ads labelled as 'info mails' by the end of the same godammn week.
When I register an account at your online service, homepage, etc. and I explicitly uncheck 'Please send me bullshit offers thrice a day until I die, and when I die harass my relatives with email spam until they die. Repeat.' (that's what the checkbox text should say, and it shouldn't be uncheckable, because you're going to do it anyway) I DON'T want your fucking info mails about unimportant shit I don't give a flying rat's ass in sauce béarnaise about, mail ads, and other bullshit. I just don't, you fucking frauds and liars.
Sending mail under the pretence of having been written by 'Corey' or 'Scott' doesn't make it any better. I'm not going to look forward to mails from 'Corey' because of many reasons:
1. Even if he is real, I don't know that fucking idiot and I don't want to get to know him.
2. 'Corey' himself and whatever he represents can get hit by a bus and die in agony for all I care, even if he does exist and was nice (or stupid) enough to take the blame for you disregarding my choices.
The only sensible and right thing for you to do is only sending new users security related email per default and nicely point them to where they can change the settings to receive your info-labelled bullshit. Nobody wants your fucking spam, nobody even reads it, and if you're sending it to them anyway, why THE FUCK WOULD YOU EVEN ASK IN THE FIRST PLACE? It just makes you look even more line the buxh of liars you are!
It's annoying and frustrating, because the only thing I can do is report every mail I didn't allow or ask for as spam and TRY to unsubscribe, unsubscribe, unsubscribe, because the unsubscribe links in your FUCKING spam mails are dead; or your shitty options pages have settings for mails strewn all over the place, so you get away with spamming them as long as possible. Particularly you, Google, FUCK YOU!
Whenever I have to 'unsubscribe' because you disregard my choice NOT to receive your shitty spam, I will cease using your service altogether, delete my account, if possible, tell everybody that your service sucks ass and tweet about you being fucking criminal spammers, because you are. And that doesn't even feel good, it doesn't feel like revenge, because it doesn't hurt you enough.
To everybody who makes these decisions or implements them for these frauds: I fucking hate you! Fuck you and die in a fire!13
Just got this email with no body, and a vague subject / title in all caps.

How do I un-idiot my users when it comes to clicking on dodgy email-links??
Got a forwarded email just there from a user who said;
Is the below ok to open?
I just tried but got a popup saying I've been blocked from opening it.
I'm not sure who it is coming from and I am not waiting on anything but as it says its from dropbox and is important, i know it's okay.
Can you unblock the link ASAP please?
This is really impeding my work-day as I need to know what it is and act accordingly.
The Original email came from a random jumble of letters with a subject line of 'important dropbox program' - not only does it look dodgy but its english is horrible! It said;
"Hi tu my freind,
You tu still read a pending verrry important document sent by one of your own contact to be vieweddd.
Install "Highly Confidential english.pdf" by clickinggg here
*insert link leading to something called 'viral-update-trojan.exe'*"
I mean, seriously... help!!! 😢
We have sent emails explaining how to hover over links and to not to click them if it looks wrong.
No one does it.
We hired a company to send fake phishing emails to train users in what to do.
It made no difference!
We now make people 'verify' their email addresses when opening any sort of link to try get them to actually look at what they're opening.
We also strip emails of original attachments and create 'safe' html copies as we can't trust them to look at what they're opening.
Everyone complains about it but Jesus Christ, this is why!!!
Its so exhausting!! What is wrong with people!!! Argh!!! 😤16
The Power of Autocorrect
Writing an important update email to a very strict senior manager named Denis, with whom the previous encounters were also uncomfortable.
About to click send, but thought to read it once.
Imagine what autocorrect did...
D became P
I conclude it was a lucky day.21
It makes me SO happy when coming across some real neat UI out in the wild! :D :D
A person that uses the “Reply All” button to tell everyone not to use the “Reply All” button when a corporate email is accidentally sent to all email users.8
I hate it when I click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email (which is in fact hidden by making the text color slightly darker/lighter than the background of the email ) and it takes me to some freaking website where I have to like summon a demon and sacrifice a virgin to unsubscribe from their emailing list and they send me another email saying I have successfully unsubscribe and if I want to resubscribe again and with you guest it another unsubscribe button at the end of that email .....7
Just got my 'student email address' from university!
Now i can have free JetBrains account and access to github private repos 😍. Yay!11
Tutanota (encrypted email service) has a newly designed interface.
I usually don't give a crap about design.
It's so beautiful 😍
I think I'm in love 😱49
When a company emails 8000 + employees asking 3 people not to be disturbed in DevOps for 3 weeks. You know those 3 people have been screwed over by unrealistic deadlines.7
Email from a company I applied To:
"Hi... We will be in touch by the 7th of November"
Me:... It's December already. Maybe I missed it.
Second email: "Sorry! Typo. It's meant to say 7th of November. Refer to this instead"
THIRD email: "So sorry. Or mailing system is failing so disregard all those emails and refer to this one. Thank you."
Me: ... WHERE THE FUCK IS THE DATE!??9
Client: My email not working
Me: What error message you getting
Client: Nothing, it's just stuck on Outbook
Me: Is your Internet working?
Client: Yes, of cause am not that stupid
Me: No! No! just asking as checkup
Me: Open your Internet Browser and goto Google or Facebook
Client: Okay hold on..I am getting message "There is no Internet Connection"
Me: Yea, your Internet is not working that's why email can't be send. Talk to your IT Guy or Internet Provider about it.
Client: Okay, thanks!3
I haven't checked my work email in a month or two.
We use slack, so every time someone needs me they just message me there or text me. It works nicely. I also dislike email in general.
Anyway: I looked at my inbox this morning, and again just now. I've gotten just over 900 emails today.
Tons of useless alerts on a shoddy as hell codebase. As an example: Every time a coworker uses a tool or lookup with a sub-par query, it ties up the single shared database long enough to generate response time alerts.
As a better example, there are many many many informational alerts that intentionally begin with "500 Internal" specifically to trigger an email alert. Why? I guess they were useful at some point?
There's just so much to fix...
And I guess I don't care enough.
On the bright side: this gives me a great reason to ignore my email!7
> Gained the skills to atleast land an internship
> Hyped asf
> Start applying for jobs
> Hyped asf
> Days go by without a response
> Hype starts dying
> Gets a REAL email delivered to my inbox asking to come in for an interview
> Hype levels regenerated
> Interview goes great and both founder and senior dev are fine with hiring me
> Founder needs to talk with co-founder first before giving the go and said he will get back to me in a day or two.
> The hype is too real
> 5 days go by without a reponse
> Hype levels: all time low
> Decide to follow up, founder said he left for a conference before the co-founder came back to talk about it and said he will get with her and let me know in a few days.

Best part about IT culture is how you send someone an e-mail & then you have to go and tell them that you've sent an email.
It happens to me often!!! 🤣🤣2
When you wait for a specific email and exactly on THAT ONE day you get one mail after each other but not the one you're waiting for. Wtf. 😐7
STUPID SHIT ASS EMAIL POLICIES NOT ALLOWING ME TO SEND CERTAIN FILE TYPES TO A SUPPORT MEMBER WHEN THERE ARE FUCKING PROBLEMS WITH THE PRODUCTION SITE. THE GUY THAT SET UP THOSE POLICIES CAN ROLL THEM UP AND STICK THEM IN HIS ASS.
There that's better...10
Cool thing Zomato.. Now we know what the primary key in your database is..
You are saying if I want to update my email, I will have to let go of my subscription which I recently got?? Great piece of technology you have there..1
You notice that you're a programmer when you automatically put a semicolon behind a closing bracket in an email instead of a dot.5
When you email your boss and his emails keep on reminding you how expensive his phone was.
"Sent from my iPhone"5
I had an idea.
Public Mail Service.
Its email. But public. It has a register of all email users and you can email anyone. Emails sent and received are also public.
*hides under desk*16
Websites and mobile apps with a text box expecting an email address input, FUCKING FLAG IT AS SUCH SO I CAN TYPE MY @ EASILY 😡2
why is it so hard to convince people to start using slack chat and giving up sending internal emails?10
When your client thinks they will get a quicker response by emailing you the same email to multiple addresses, they don't know I have a filter that sends them straight to the shithead folder skipping the inbox! Bye bye problem.1
! a Rant
Dear fellow devRanters!
I have an announcement to make. After we shared Programmer’s Music (www.programmersmusic.com) on devRant, we had so many awesome user started using our service and they still do. We love you all for that and thank you for you continuous support and use.
Now that our team has become more focused and productive, we took upon a new problem to tackle a few months back. The problem we chose is about increasing email productivity and ability to comprehend knowledge hidden in emails in a more effective way. We are excited to introduce ‘Altmail’! (https://www.altmail.in)
We believe that there’s a hidden treasure in your inbox waiting to be explored. All those newsletters and blog updates, all those deals, all those Medium digests and LinkedIn alerts, contain keys to becoming a better version of yourself. So we have made it Altmail’s mission to help you spend less time organising and more time acquiring knowledge. Altmail transforms your cluttered inbox into the source of knowledge, automagically.
We are currently in private beta and have limited invites left, to be specific 33 out of 100. Please check it out here - http://at.altmail.in/devRant!
We are looking forward to your honest feedback! :)
Thanks a ton!
Cool. Windows 10's standard email client has problems with emojis. Have fun with my ? blocks, nice person >:
Lately there are many things that annoy me about microsoft, since I realiced that they still fucked up CSS transitions in SVGs.9
Thanks GDPR, for practically and efficiently unsubscribing me from almost everything I forgot I was ever/not signed up for. My inbox is going to be a lot cleaner after this tsunami of confirmations, and I didn't even have to lift a finger!6
I finished two projects. Both of them need to connect to each other. However, the tool to do that is not currently licensed to achieve my desired outcome. I email my boss to check the status of the license key I need, that they promised, and the only thing I get back is "Correct." Seriously? 😠 The person who has the company credit card and authority to buy, also the same one that gives me a deadline to turn this shit in, can't give me the time of day to respond to an email? Their response wasn't even relevant. I've been trying to move beyond this roadblock for a week now! I'm a pretty independent guy, but I'm not going to buy the license myself for a tool that I didn't even want to use. So when someone comes to my cube and I'm raging on Steam, ✋ I don't want to hear anything about company time, because mine isn't being respected either. 👊👊
Will add better photos in the comments!
A client of mine received an spoofed email from their domain. It was a
script with visual basic source code.
Maybe someone here can explain what the script does?
Client didn't opened the file!29
Holy shit, wrote bitwarden an email and I shit you not, 15 seconds later I got a reply answering my question, not via bot but an actual human, then answered that email with a much more detailled question and got an answer yet again 25 seconds later, insane. 😶4
CompanyYouNeverHeardOf sends you IrrelevantNewsletter512... so you hunt for the unsubscribe link, which you find buried in the boilerplate crap at the bottom of the mail, rendered in #eee on a #fff background, in 4-point type, and click that. End up on a web site that asks you like 8 times if you're sure you want to leave and please, reconsider, we're nice folk really, blah blah blah. And then you get *another* email from them saying they received your unsubscribe request, and *then* yet another to confirm that yes, you unsubscribed, and please feel free to re-sub anytime (as if!)
GOD I HATE MARKETEERS!!!1one9
Just got a call from IT people. They asked for a file which I already sent an email to them two days ago. When I told them that, they whined -- "You should have called me that you sent an email, I don't normally check it."
Didn't expect that kind of excuse from IT people... Or maybe my expectation was too high 😑2
Hell is accidentally clicking on, instead of copying, an email URL and having to wait forty years for some email program you didn't even know existed to rise from its slumber like some Lovecraftian ancient god, meanwhile the fans on your laptop are preparing for takeoff and you stare dead-eyed as the rainbow spirals, spirals, spirals. you wait and suffer this cosmic karma. days pass. “just a few more seconds” you slur. your laptop freezes and the concept of time is no longer comprehensible. your family and friends forget your name and you fade from existence.3
Just got this spam email, does anyone know what kind of "personal reason" she actually got in github?16
- popunder background bitcoin miners did become a thing
- keybase android beta uploaded your privatekey to google servers "accidentally"
- you can spoof email headers via encoded chars, because most apps literally just render them apparently
- imgur leaked 1.7 million user accounts, protected by sha-256 "The company made sure to note that the compromised account information included only email addresses and passwords" - yeah "only", ofcourse imgur, ofcourse.
I guess the rant I did on Krahk etc. just roughly a month ago, can always be topped by something else.
We have 1 client that refuses to put a title in every email she sends.
It is very annoying that you have to open every email to know what the email is about.
How hard can it be to add a title because she always write a book in the email.6
My girlfriend configuring her e-mail account in the app because her phone had to be reset to factory :
-I can't figure out how to do these setting, annoying...
-Oh yeah the imap and smtp servers can be tricky, let me put that
(I Google the settings for her mail provider and put them in)
-It still doesn't work.
-Uuuh, maybe with another security setting, try it.
-This shit still doesn't work, seriously my phone is broken.
-Have you verified the e-mail address and carefully typed the password?
-Yes of course, I've tried it several time
(I take the phone and check all the parameters... During a looooong time... Until it hits me.)
-Hmm... Can you read the e-mail you've entered?
-Yeah, it's my mail, firstname.lastname@example.org.
-No can you read it again please?
-It's blabla, why?
-No, can you *spell* your e-mail?
-Yeah it's B-L-A-B-L-A-@-H-O-M-A... Ow shit...
Got some feedback for an app today via email...
"You are a fucking idiot! Stupid piece of shit!" Well, I guess one user didn't like it then... Rude fucking wankhat!5
Someone in Indonesia is using my email adress to order stuff from a site called Lazada. My email account is not compromised as far as I know. But It's really annoying always getting order confirmation emails in bahasa Indonesia.
I've got "kikis" phone number and adress. Any advice what i've could do to make her stop?19
One company sent me GDPR compliance email with title "WE CARE ABOUT YOUR PRIVACY". Well, CC'd all 500 recipients...
So, my officemate was inquiring about a job posting using her work email. She asked me if I'm interested and forwarded the email to me. Only to realize afterwards that she had it sent to the wrong email address. Take note, she's also sending it to my company email. Since the email she put on it doesn't match any addresses on our domain, it was sent to our CEO (the admin of the company domain) which in turn, forwarded it to me. I can't imagine the look on the CEO's face when he saw the job invitation email.6
Just received an email from a client letting me know they can't access their email. It was in reply to an email I sent. What?5
To all the web developers out there that use email validation, stop using a check for common domain names! If I try to sign up with my email address (email@example.com) it won't work! So stop doing that and use a RegEx please! Who has had this problem too?9
I tested my account creation form yesterday, just once.
I've been receiving welcome emails from my website every five minutes since, and still am.
I've commented out all code that sends email.
And I still receive emails.
The code has remained unchanged for the past 6 months or so, and yet this is only happening now.
Spending hours designing an email newsletter only for Microsoft Outlook to continue living in the stone age and fucking ruin it for you.12
Never write your email adress on a building. And it you do, don't use web.de (basically German and more shitty version of yahoo). Spoted in a fancy business district in central Berlin.8
Playing email tennis with a client trying to get to the specifics of a vague initial request. Difficult to do without being patronising and condescending. Having to read and edit my emails to make them believe that I don't think they are a useless fucking incompetent twat.2
Dear email marketers:
I don't owe you anything just because you bought my contact information from some sketchy company. If I was interested in your garbage sales pitch I would fucking reply! Quit nagging me for a response and go get real jobs you fucking twats!2
Me: "How many MB of files do you want to send me via mail? Maybe it would be better to upload everything..."
Client: "Oh don't worry. It won't be to much. It's just five folders."5
Email piping chat system.
The chat system had to take replies from web and send them to an email, which the admin user can reply back via email and it publishes straight into the chat.
It was all fun and games until they wanted HTML based emails and content going back and forth, and attachments going both ways.4
This works: firstname.lastname@example.org
Spam filtering protip:
Did you know that the email spec allows you to use email@example.com and the emails still come to you. This is especially useful when registering to a lot of places where you are not sure whether they will spam you or not. Filtering will be easy because you have a unique email address for each service. Also you can find out which service leaked your email address to spammers.
Additionally if you want to register to a service with two accounts but still want to use the same email, you can do this easily by adding +whatever in your email address.6
Client wanted to send us e-mail addresses.
Client sent an image inside a Word document showing a list of e-mail addresses.
Luckily ShareX has an OCR feature.1
People like to have "sent from my iPhone" or "sent from my Android" and I set mine to "sent from my PDP-7." Surprised the older people I work with that I even know what that is lol.4
A company contacted me about their custom ticket system not working
Then after asking them couple things they just wanted me to look at emails they found stacked and lost in the ticket system archive:
One clients ticket somehow got caught in between updates and hes been answering the auto close notification (each ~3 days because it never got closed) of the system, with ranging from "yes, thank you, I have solved the issue" escalating to "why dont you leave me alone, I have told you, I have fixed it, please stop", poor guy 🤣1
When your colleague is so impatient that he send 100s of emails for a small issue and you cant block him :|
Dude at least let me read the issue in email
Dude you could have sent..

Wait dude I am working
Working on your issue chillex
What the fuck :|
ARE YOU SERIOUS?
WHAT THE FUCK MAN :|
I will kick your ass :|
I will kill you :||
I will fuck your mother :|||
I will drop a nuclear bomb on your Ass
'Its still coming' :|||¦6
Something that really irritates me is when someone requests a read receipt for an email. My team of 4 including my team leader has several apps that we own with several different product owners. Sometimes one of the product owners or someone who works for them sends an email and requests a read receipt. I feel like that is very cocky, like they are trying to exert control over me or something deeper. Maybe it's just me.5
Registered an account with a local pizza business and rated them 5* on Yell moments before checking my email and finding they had emailed me my unencrypted password, GREAT NOW I WON'T BE ABLE TO EAT5
At my first job, our employee email addresses followed a somewhat unusual naming convention: last name plus first initial, e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org for John Smith.
They were ultimately forced to change it, though, when they received a complaint from a new employee. His name? Tommy Shi...7
Best email of the year so far, from a "reputable" IT supplier.
I had asked for numerous copies of x86 and x64 copies of Windows 7.
Clarification email came back "I can't find an 84 bit copy of Windows. Can you clarify?"
Not sure that mail will be beaten this year. They weren't even looking for an 86 bit version.
Unfortunately I just had to explain rather than play along for a few hours as time limited.
I setup an email server a couple of months ago.
The amount of port scans and brute force attacks I've received this month alone is awful.
JUST SOD OFF ALREADY, PLEASE.20
Marking your email as "High Priority" does not make it high priority. Nor will it get it attended to any faster. But keep believing it will, dear colleagues. Live happily in your little fantasy worlds.3
An online shop ... something like Amazon Shopping for South East Asia keeps on sending me their newsletter even though I have already unsubscribed. I wish they'd hire me to take care of their email service.
Although I doubt this is a bug and perhaps one of a schemes of the marketing department and they are already aware of this. Sneaky corporate bastards.7
Automatic email for time after 19 clock:

PM sends email to development team with the whole management team in cc.
"Guys, the data is not updating correctly! Make sure all the updates are being done! If we can't get this right then we can just forget about this whole thing!"
Me: Yes, because making generalized statements and inflammatory remarks actually help in correcting the problems...
HTML email formatting. WHY CAN'T IT BE STANDARDIZED ACROSS THE BAZILLION DIFFERENT CLIENTS I HAVE TO TARGET????2
Right so I have to subscribe for this website's spam to remove the already spammed inbox.
PM couldn't configure IMAP for Airmail so he deleted and reinstalled the application... Twice. Surprise! Still doesn't work the second or third time. 🖕3
Next 3 days I' ll be working on moving our email server to new server because the old datacenter is closing down. Clients are pissed and they are fucking verbally bashing me left to right when I told them that their emails will be down since most of them host their own DNS.
I am fucked.3
When you get an email sent out to the entire company (such as someone's promotion) and people proceed to reply all3
OMG, FUCKIDI FUCK FUCK.
Even such a big company as survey monkey don't put freaking mail attribute on inputs... Fuck you guys...8
See, there's a difference between scammers that know how to email, and ones who don't. There's a thing called BCC that DOESN'T reveal everyone you're sending the email to. LEARN TO USE IT!
Passive aggressive deed of the day: Whenever i am replying to a mail with no subject, i start with "sorry i missed your mail as it went to my spam folder, maybe because it didnt have a subject".
dont you love when you go to a site
DIRECTLY - to that site
and the first thing youre greeted with is an ad or email sign up - FOR THAT SITE?
what kind of fuking UI is that? what kind of marketing is that?
i just went to YOUR site. don't throw fuking ads and nonsense at me in some pop-up form where i can't interact with your page without clicking the "X" to close it.5
Yes, a plus, i.e. `+`, is a fucking valid char for an email address.
Your online service is shit, you don't know your craft, and you should feel bad about yourself!
But you thought email is fucking simple, google for email validation regex and took copy pasted the first fucking find from some random blog that validates anything but an actual fucking valid email addresses, didn't you!?
(Funfact, the plus sign allow to create email aliases in some free mailer services. GMail for instance. That's why I l like using emails like my.actual.mail+I_KNOW_WHY_YOU_ARE_SENDING_SPAM@gmail.com as my registration email. Also, brute-force that login email.)3
I seriously hate email problems with a passion. Like even when I step through every setting, checking things one by one. Everything seems fine, yet my clients email is getting rejected incoming and out and the only error is basically whoops it bounced! pretty much anything could've cause this.. yeah that's very helpful.7
When you answer an email right away and a couple of days later they ask you if you received their email.2
I hate leaving work when in the middle of something, I tend to obsess over it all night lamenting that I didn't finish.
Today I was in a similar position but I needed input from our Finance directorate before I could finish. So I sent them an email which would mean that I'd done everything possible and could go home knowing there was nothing more I could do tonight as surely no one would be working this late.
However five minutes later they replied giving me the exact details I needed.
So yet again, I'm going home frustrated.
Why can't they be that useful the rest of the day?!3
When Amazon asks if my email address is all lower case... The desire to make it an informative moment that email addresses are not case sensitive is outweighed by my desire to resolve my issue as fast as possible.4
Only way to stay sane as a developer reading emails:
1.) Open email
2.) Scan quickly for your name on the body of the massage
3.) If your name isn't mentioned, then close with joy.
4.) If your name is mentioned (FML), then read sort of....see what's the deal and if the email body doesn't end in a question mark, then close email and play dumb.
5.) Else, respond to the fucking email.2
I was happily folowing a tutorial earlier on setting up an email server but the site got taken down for maintenance just as I reached the last step...
IT'S BEEN 6 HOURS NOW AND IT'S STILL NOT BACK UP.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING AND I'M GOING TO BREAK SOMETHING AND BE SAD.9
I hate people that sends an email with a question and when you fail to reply within their arbitrary deadline (not in the email) they email you the same question but copying your boss and your boss's boss when they could've literally just walk 20 steps to ask the same question5
The unsubscribe link on the emails from whois.com redirects you to a fucking PDF with written instructions on how to unsubscribe...
Are you fucking kidding me?
I have to go on your website, login, go through 4 fucking sections in the settings to finally select "NO" in a radio button???
It should be illegal.1
Here's an advice to you guys:
Ever look at your mailbox and think it's so full of junk?
Archive all your current emails.
Then next time you get any spam emails take the time to unsubscribe or block the sender.
Trust me, life is so much better after you've got rid of those craps. And it's not that hard like it seems. In a week you'll probably get rid if 90% of those.3
How to make those marketing staff of x service stop sending you an email when they don't have unsubscribe link:
1. Reply back asking about the free tier/plan
2 days and no word from them after spamming me daily about the service3
Checked mails and saw bunch of newsletters from the same company.
Me: huh? I don't remember subscribing to these. *scrolled down* here it is, (button to unsubscribe from these emails)
*Clicked and got redirected to their feedback page before unsubscribing.
Me: Cool, just need to provide feedback, not a big deal. *gave feedback*
Message reads : DONE. Operation failed. Due to technical error
What!! I'm gonna block the shit out of you!!2
Well fuck. Use Google calendar on my phone, somehow set reminder using my work email and not my personal email... The reminder was for my interview next week at a different company... Guess the cat is out of the bag... Should be an interesting day tomorrow if anyone noticed before I deleted.4
Got an email back about a sys admin job I applied for! They gave me a quiz about basic terminal commands and wanted me to make a couple chef scripts. So excited to do it!2
My university alerts all student and staff any time a phishing email is reported. I've yet to attend one class, and I've received a few dozen emails alerting you of phishing emails being sent. It's sad people can't notice the pattern of the emails, and realize right away "Hey this is a bullshit email" and not rely on the alerts.
It's the 21st century; basic computer competency is a necessity.3
Strange : Am I the only person who never got Weekly Top Rant email? Did I configured something wrong?

So I am new here, hi! :)
So the devRant android app does not seem to support this mail format:
(the important part being the "+devrant" thing)
Now I waited 2 days for a confirmation mail that wouldn't arrive and was greeted with the "please confirm your fucking mail" popup every damn time.
"Okay, let's just change my mail to user@domain and deal with it", I thought. Guess what: You can't!
So I contacted the devrant team via e-mail.
And I waited.
Delete account, recreate with other mail, be happy.
Don't worry, I'm not mad. It's just really fucking ironic.
Looking forward to a great community! :)5
After upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04 my Thunderbird is presenting me the new font it has to render emojis in full glory (or not) when it displays Twitter summary emails which contain emojis from user messages and names.
See the full featured list in the attachment.
I fucking hate design agencies and everything related to fucking design!
Today we received an email from design agency asking us to put two images next to each other so that they can compare and see which one fucking fit better!
What is the difference between these two images:
first one has 28points of text size while the other one has 26 points ...
one more reason to hate this fucked up world!4
*slamms door open*
*screams as loud as he can*
"FREE FONT DOWNLOAD"
*screaming even louder*
"FREE SATORI SANS FONT DOWNLOAD IT BELOW"
Wtf stop screaming.3
1 Week ago I took down the development version of an internal demo, leaving only the prod one (temporary space issue). Colleagues were told n+15 times via email, face to face, comments on tickets etc. The prod one has also been live for weeks, and again, they were told when it went up.
This just happened:
Colleague 1: practiseSafeHex can you help me, the demo doesn't seem to be working.
Me: *logs in*, *click around* ... seems fine dude. Are you using the correct URL: <prod-url>.
Colleague 1: let me try again and see.
Colleague 2: practiseSafeHex i'm with Colleague 1, were trying to use the demo, and its not working. Can you have a look, we need it.
Me: I just told him, its fine, I think you have the wrong URL <prod-url>. Can you try again.
Colleague 2: No I have the right one, can you check it.
Me: *does nothing*, yep i've had a look at it, can you try again: <prod-url>.
Colleague 2: Ah its back now, cheers.
They are with a customer now, so I won't say anything, when they get back, one of them is being castrated.
When a client doesn't click "Reply to all" and the other person is out of the office, so you get their response hours later 😌
MongoDB really needs to chill the fuck out with their email marketing, daily emails plus frequent harassment from sales reps wanting to know why I downloaded their software is getting on my tits now.
Anybody would think I'm the first person that's ever installed the bloody thing.
Whenever I add an address to spam or unsubscribe it just seems like the origin address changes, having to rely on client side filtering, yayyy7
oh FFS my university pissed me off so bad right now that I had to wait 20 min to cool down to be able to write a rant about it...
so, one of the university department offer an email address which is the official university approved email for student packs like jetbrain's. I wanted to renew my jetbrains subscription, but for that I have to get a verification email on that address..
But since the only time I use it is this annual renewal I dont know the webmail's url..
So I search for it on the department pages, services and its nowhere to be found. Finaly I found it on a student maintained wiki page.
I try to log in.. no luck. try another password, still not it. Try all of the passwords that I remember using in the previous 3 year and no luck.
well fck it the password change is managed by a website where I can log in with a different method, so I change the password and try to log in again.
No fcking luck! And at this point I bashed my head against the wall because I found out that the password change takes them about 1 or 2 hours... hours! wtf...5
WHAT THE FUCKING SHIT DO YOU WANT FROM ME??! I LITERALLY GET SPAM MAILS EVERY 5 MINUTES (i know I know, some of you get more than that) ABOUT BITCOIN. I NEVER DID ANYTHING FUCKING RELATED TO CRYPTO CURRENCY! HOW DO YOU KNOW MY EMAIL?? LIKE WTF. I'm sitting here doing my stuff and every few minutes my phone starts ringing and I'm like "hey maybe person x answered or something else important happened" but when I actually look at it to see whats up it's just a fucking email about bitcoin being outdated and it tells me to maybe invest into other crypto currencies. After actually reading one of the spam mails because I was interested in what they actually want from me I had to find out that they do not even mention any other currency or website. WTF INTERNET?? WHAT DO YOU WANT?6
Today when registering myself for a website I was asked to validate my email address. Literally I was sent an email with only "Please verify your email" in the body. So I responded with "ok". Lets see how long it takes for them to realise their mistake.3
A random story that just popped back into my head while reading another rant:
Long ago, we developed our own webmail platform at the request of clients. After it was finished, it was never updated and eventually turned into an outdated insecure steaming pile of crap. Up until ~2015, it looked like the first iteration of AOL Mail from the 1990s (and it functioned as such too.) Years, we decided to sunset the platform, and allotted 6-months or so to transition all the active users off the platform and over to an alternative email provider. We had to call each client multiple times and send multiple emails with a deadline detailing when the service would be shut down, and we'd explain that if they didn't transition over to a new service and transfer all their emails before that date, then the emails would be lost forever. Lo and behold, a handful of clients ignored our repeated contact attempts, and we shut down their email service (as we told them that we would.) Of course, they called screaming and panicking "OUR EMAIL IS DOWN OUR EMAIL IS DOWN WE'RE LOSING MONEY FIX IT NOW!!!!," and we told them "We attempted to contact you multiple times, and you neglected to return our numerous calls or emails. We're happy to help you transition your old email addresses to this new provider, but because you neglected to follow the cushy deadline we provided you, all of your emails are gone."
Of course, they denied having ever received our calls/emails, and we'd have to provide them with our outgoing call recordings to prove that we did in fact contact them multiple times. Then they'd blame the mishap on their secretary, who would blame it on the intern, who would blame it on the IT guy, who would blame it on the janitor, and so on and so forth.
Moral of the story: always keep outgoing call recordings when you're sunsetting a product.1
To my client who wants a two-column formatted email built with tables in Constant Contact to appear in the same two-column format on mobile devices: You're lying when you say your previous developer achieved a legible, mobile, tiny screen email this way. I know because I can see the previous email formatting. In fact, I cloned that exact email and merely swapped out the content. You really do not understand what you're asking for.4
So I just got a mail from a bank.
The email address ended with .gmbh
If people want to make phishing emails then please use at least a fucking viable email address6
Google knows i accidentally use EDGE browser and they want me back to chrome. Oh Google !
Google want to take over entirely, although all we know edge is use by .0001% people this days 😂😂😂😂😂6
Gmail: We will be supporting css media queries from now on.
Users: Bitch please, we still use Outlook as our default email app.3
Wait so if Microsoft joined the Linux foundation, does that mean they've got an @linux.com email address?
May I suggest an email service?
I saw this post recommending the Vivaldi browser (https://devrant.com/rants/1544070/...) and there was a discussion a few days ago about how email providers snoop around and sell data. I can't find it anymore, but noone mentioned protonmail.ch there.
I just wanted to share my so far positive experience with protonmail. It's a fully encrypted email service that was first used internally by some Swiss academics. Now they made a product out of it with paid subscriptions and a basic, free account. They already open-sourced the front-end web client and are planning to do the same for the back-end in the future, which is really cool. Oh and they have really nice email clients for iOS and Android, which have higher ratings than gmail itself in the Play Store. But that might also be because only a special audience uses protonmail and not the regular guys.
So, I suggest that you register an account there even if you don't want to use it right now. The free account comes with 1 email address and storage limitations. But it's usable and ad-free. Since it's still quite the new service, many email addresses are available. Just like gmail in the early days. That's why I'm suggesting you go and register even if you don't need it now.
Oh and last but not least: I'm not affiliated in any way with protonmail, except for having a paid subscription. But I believe things making the internet a better place should be promoted and devrant is definitely the community with people thinking the same way I do. Have a nice day.10
Meme quoting one of our employees who sent in a ticket asking if something was a "phishing technique without the use of email."
Migrated to new email clients, half a page long signatures were gone and no notice to put it back.
So I added my own: "Freeeeeeedoooooom, no more signatures".
Promptly got called by PM to: "It puts the signature back in the mail or else it gets the free seating back."1
My email is just as valid if there is a whitespace at the end of it as if there wasn't.. ffs, just add a trim!
Trying to get away from Gmail, anyone know any email providers that respects privacy? Would prefer IMAP/POP access and an option (can be paid) to use my own domain.
Currently considering paying for ProtonMail.29
Barracuda Email Firewall for Dummies:
1. Email Client with perfect grammar and nice subject line. (Email rejected)
2. Change subject line to include Russian and Chinese characters along with discount advertisements for Xanax and male enhancement pills. (Email sent!)
Have you ever done tab (thinking that the text will indent) and enter to go to new line in Outlook and sent email by accident ? I have done couple of times now ! Not good .1
I had to do a double take... Needless to say I can't sign in for shit, fucknows what mental finger dance I did on the shift key when signing up to these guys...
Also: forgotten password is "please type your email, if there's an account associated to this email address we'll fucking email it with password reset instructions"...
Fucking arsehole fucks, I just wanna pay my fucking energy bill.
Anybody that uses GPG for email encryption might want to read this:
This sheds a bit more light on what's actually going on.
It's not really GPG that's affected but the E-mail client plugins.6
Holy fucking shit are email clients bullshit.
I don't know what happened there but if you thought the chrome-firefox-ie-egde gaps back in the days were sick - let me tell you.. email clients are made by the devil himself. All of them. All of them? Yup. Because he made some of them being owned by apple, working beatuiful and no weird stuff.
But on the same end he made some of them owned by microsoft and their office Studios. They use the word engine to render html emails. Read this again. Read it without starting to cry in agony.
But thats not enough. Let's make some of them use an ie-engine and the mac os variants going to use some webkit based renderer. This way there will be no valid ruleset to make it look good on all of them, isn't this great??
Now this might be hell already. But lets pour more salt into these wide opened wounds.
Let there be Germany and United Internet, owning trash like Web.de and GMX, whose android clients going to work completely different across Android and app-versions!
Once you've mastered these, let me introduce you to gmail. Lets take only the body node of your email and do some fuck up with it, so you have to display a non-responsive variant on mobile.
Now you might be thinking "but there are web-based clients, they'll do good ain't they?" Long story short: fuck you.
Let's go back to ms.
Hey dude lets make it possible to scale up your whole system. So old people can read shit better. And now the funny part: let's make it so that the word rendering engine, rendering emails goes completely mayhem on your mail, so it looks like a completely different thing! (:
If you ever receive a newsletter in your inbox and that shit looks like it's planned to look like.. appreciate that shit. Sacrifice a virgin as thanksgiving for it.
E-Mail needs to die. I'm doing this for over 2 years now and this shit needs to stop asap.4
FUCK SPAM !
If you are like me and register to many services online and get spammed with spam (duh) and want to know which services is selling your data , you can register with an email like this :
let's say your email is email@example.com
and want to register to Service you can put firstname.lastname@example.org and mails will still reach email@example.com but appear as To : firstname.lastname@example.org so then you can rant about how Service is selling your data.
credits to reddit.3
Just remembered that I forgot to add my Google apps work email to my phone after I reset it a week ago. 😓
The latest scam someone that works with me fell for - I hope I just prevented the rest of my company from falling for (will know tomorrow). Firstly we use fucking imap, secondly how the fuck did you email me to tell me I can't receive emails???
Still pretty well executed.4
So, I just recieved a welcome email from bit.ac, with my email and a random generated password. The fact is that, I have never registered on this website. Did someone just registered with my email? Or maybe it's a new marketing strategy, to collect emails from another databases and send them emails, "reminding" them their email and a random generated password, so that who recieve the email, to be confused and to access the website to see what is all about, resulting that the company gets more traffic & eventually new possible customers?8
We're looking to change the domain provider we use to register new client's domains to one that has an API.
So far it looks like it'll either be namecheap or AWS's Route 53.
We're also looking for the same thing with mail inboxes.
Do you have any recommendations / experience with either of these?
I was hoping to find a solution that would provide both the domain registration and the mailboxes with no hosting and accessible via API but I've had no such luck.
(Except for maybe two, but neither looked up to date)10
When someone over complicates everything. Turns what could be a three paragraph billeted system launch email into four dense pages that no one will finish reading. First page tooting their horn for a job not well done. Usually 'less is more'2
Yeah, I'll probably have a google, Facebook or wikipedia account instead of a Gmail one. What's wrong with you Samsung?1
Random 'J's bothered me for the longest time in emails on my phone and elsewhere.. It was too consistent to be a typo, anyone else seen this?
Well it's a smiley face in wingdings -_-5
EML and MIME files can go straight to the top of Go Fuck Yourself Mountain and fall off a fucking cliff into the Sea of Eat Shit and Die.1
HEY Y'ALL! I need help.
So...... recently me and a friend are trying to move servers from a paid one to our own, named Vector. All of the web-side is basically done. However, port 25 is blocked by the ISP. After a few days of messing around in various Linux VMs, we gave up.
Point is, does anyone know where we could get a cheap VPS for email hosting?11
i needed to get a dvi/hdmi converter and amazon fuked me, again (big surprise) so i went to monoprice
specifically asked "subscribe to promotional emails?" NO - NO i don't fricking want that
email: "order recv"
"more order bs"
"youve been subscribed!"
wtf? NO! i said fucking NO! don't just ignore it you bastards
(i guess this is better than the alternative of usualaly getting suked into it and not knowing til you get emails down the road, but fuk off, miss me with that shit)2
My coworker cannot log in to his company email account. So I contacted the guys in charge of this by email, asking if they could help and asked whats the process now or how does this work. I assume if his email is not working, they cannot send him a password reset link.
their answer: yeah, sure, we reseted the password of the mentioned user, here is his new password5
client asks me to setup a form that emails on their site... no problem. didnt know what they actually wanted was for me to set up an email server.... im a terrible terrible sys-admin. no one should hire me for that kind of work.5
A couple of weeks ago my work email got hacked, I found out because he/she was sending phishing mails to yahoo emailaddresses, but they couldn't be delivered because they were marked as phishing.
I've immediately changed my password and turned on two-factor authentication, shared my story with my boss and now we use two-factor authentication for every service where it is possible.2
So an employee sent a nice email saying she is leaving the company and this is her last day.
Then for the next three days I get reply-to-all emails saying “nice to work with you”, etc.
A. Why the fuck reply to all, I don’t care
B. Her last day was two days ago, wtf? Why are you replying?
C. Person leaving send that shit bcc. Though perhaps this was their final, `fuck you` to us all!
Just a whole pile of idiots.1
For the brave souls among you... Email On Acid have made an excellent PDF guide on CSS animation in email.
No, that's not a typo! 😮💥
Next motherfucker named Chad that sends me an email with a RE: subject line for recruiting is going to be thrown from a helicopter screaming.
If your name is Chad that's okay, we know you didn't choose your name, but if you're a recruiter named Chad and you are trying to slide into my emails, get fucked.2
One of ur staff writes email body as subject and the body is always empty or her signature. Give a reason why I shouldn't kill myself.1
Microsoft FUCK YOU!
How the fuck did you lock my account and make it impossible for me to recover it.
I have send you all the information that you have asked me and you still tell me that you can't prove my ownership? Bullshit!
Aggggghhh, this is making so angry since all my accounts are setup to log in with that email account.
This is why I hate technical support people who only reply what is written in a fucking script.
Sorry for swearing that much. Not really. Fuck you Microsoft!1
I wish Outlook had autocomplete...
Isn't it time even Word and other apps support basic autocomplete..?11
Screw email clients and their html rendering engine, especially you, outlook, fucking disrespecting most of my css stylings3
Before I came along, my company was processing orders of type X by hand, taking many hours and being at greater risk of human error. So as a temporary solution, I crafted a console app to do the processing. Then, this app is needed to be accessed remotely. Because adding a newer .NET to a handful of servers was just too much to handle emotionally for management, the console app was revamped to a web app. During this revamping process, I was having my client send me an email so that I could initiate the processing myself until a friendlier UI was available. Well, I finished last night. I sent them an email explaining that it was live, gave them the address, and gave myself a high-five. A moment ago, I get an email from the client insisting that I process those orders quickly so that I don't cause a delay in shipping. FML!! Did they even READ the email I sent them?? They've been suckling at the teat for too long. Adding insult to injury, since the revamping project began, the client would CC my boss every time they emailed to have an order processed as if to hint at their frustration that the project wasn't done yet. Grr....
Why do these e-marketing companies always have some kind of manager/consultant/strategist/marketeer/whatever to handle emails between me and their devs. Instead of emailing with another technical person and quickly fixing the problem I end up sending one billion emails to someone who has no clue on what needs to be done to fix te problem. From now on my emails contains a part called "to your developer:" explaining the technical part of the email.
And no - I don't want to plan a conference call... just let me code dammit!
Since finally fixing my email server I keep periodically getting emails with random subjects like "asdfasdfasdf" from all my test messages...
just opened a ticket with a software provider because the new version is crap, crashes, and doesn't even function properly
get an temp ftp account made (for some...reason?) and an e-mail with the user and pass in plain text in a single e-mail
what year is it?4
I've been considering mailbox.org for my email and cloud office requirements, but so few reviews exist online so I hope some of you have experience you can share.
I currently use Gmail and Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Slides. Ideally I need to replace all of these. Here are my requirements:
- A service I pay for with money instead of personal data
- Personal email service
- An online office suite for documents, spreadsheets, file storage
- able to send encrypted email (almost no one I know can use encryption)
- open source software stack
- Android apps
- Cloud presentation software (Slides replacement)
I don't have the time or resources to set up my own email server or cloud.
I'd like to hear from anyone with mailbox.org experience, or other services that meet the above requirements.12
Now I have enough of this shit I fucking go grab a chainsaw and cut you into the tiniest pieces possible then pour gasoline on your fucking servers and lit them on fire. How the fuck should I remain calm if there is at least two fucking email I can't send because your fucking piece of shit server gets blacklisted EVERY FUCKING WEEK.
Oh how cool you made ipv6 available to shared plans so outlook servers won't blacklist mails. But guess what, it STILL DOESN'T WORK!!! Not to mention that you automatically modify my existing SPF record and set the shared storage ipv6 address to the main domain which should be pointing to the vps (still working though but have no idea why). I am so fucking fed up with people for today, and it's only just morning.
Fucking fuck I had this one dashboard website I used some time and then stopped, they were sending me lots of trash via email since, but now when I actually need it again, I can't find a single trace, does somebody know some website where you can simply send a curl to with some number and it will save and graph it in a dashboard?6
Fuck Outlook, fuck creating email templates from scratch, fuck complex email designs...but most of all fuck outlook and people who complain thier email campaign/newsletter doesn't look right in Outlook2
When you spend so much time at an event you start to get anxiety near the end of it because you have no idea how many unread emails you have waiting for you.
If there is something I hate, it's when peoples emails end with "Sent from my iPhone".
It literally doesn't add anything of value to the conversation, on the contrary it only shows that the person is either too indifferent or lazy to turn it off, or *shivers* actually thinks it's cool.1
Hired me as senior front end developer. Assign me task like developing email templates.. so I bought few template with my own salaries!!2
Again got an email(pseudospam) from a service I subscribed to (yes I did). It says the email is from CEO and it's supposed to be X-mas wish + invitation to their youtube channel. It was, kind of...
But the words they (or he, but I hope not) used in the email! It was so obviously blank, such uninteresting-president-speech. It was even targeted as a spam by gmail. In a foreign lang.
I mean... if you want to reach to your customers, sit on your ass and imagine _yourself_ reading an email that's long, its point was lost somewhere in the fourth sentence and magically appeared at the end + even default mail filter targets it as a spam.
That's what you get from a service. Motivational crap and blank words. Many thanks, I haven't heard a lot of those lately, eh?!
I use mail.com and the amount of websites and companies that ask me if I'm sure I don't mean Gmail is so annoying. One finance company even changed it to Gmail without asking me! Time to change email addresses?2
Ok... I thought I've seen every kind of shitty way to unsubscribe from a newsletter, but this one beats them all... I have to write a fucking email with a request not to receive emails...
There is a fucking useless law for cookies, why there isn't a law that force companies to put a one-click link to unsubscribe on emails?1
All results for GDPR on my "spam mail adress" (NO results for DSGVO!) ... seems like GDPR doesnt apply for spam :D but this email is also registered to sooo many services and websites... i think the search is broken :|5
Need advice guys :)
just bought myself a nice domainname, and now I'm looking for a good email provider I can use for my domain.
Any of you can point me in the right direction? It can come at a price, as long as it is not too much, but I'm well aware quality service does not come free...10
Dev1: "what was that requirement? I mean, do you remember that little yet hugely important detail ...?"
Dev2: "hmmm sort of ... Maybe it's in one of the emails, possibly 2 months ago. Let's try to find it"
Dev3: "wait, probably Dev1 was not included for some reason in that thread of emails"
Dev2: "no wait, I mean the other, the one we used to talk about those other specifications from previous meeting..."
[and the story goes on]
Now you may think "ok, this event happened once and was a misstep. Shit happens"
Actually, this is the bread and butter in this company I collaborate with. All their requirements are spread across thousands of emails, usually mixed together and possibly forked into different threads. Often people are cut out from conversation because someone forgets to "reply all", other times they're lost in time.
When I asked them "why don't you use some other tool, maybe something more organized and easily searchable, something structured..."
They replied "no no, we prefer to use email for historical reasons"
My brain just melted like chocolate under the sun2
My job hasn't started yet but I'm already learning to send emails to 5 people right at the same time while buried deep in paperwork.2
It feels so good having a second e-mail address just for al those shitty sites where you need to create an account only to use it like oncie. A burner password is also a thing for such sites.4
Pisses me off when coding an email using tables and not allowed to use most of the awesome styles and elements. :'(4
Services with newsletters, you need this "unsubscribe" button to be clearly set, since "report spam" is 2 seconds faster to find. And the last email you send confirming that i unsubscribed may assure that i will report you as spam.1
I learned something new while trouble shooting an email template today.
There was a weird margin at the end of my template and I have no idea where it came from. I inspected elements and found a 1x1 image.
Turns out it's a tracking link being loaded as an image.
Now I get why they call it a tracking pixel. It's literally 1 pixel.9
rant == true
<rant>I want my stickers, but I'd rather rant about using email than actually use email. Cut me some slack, I'm a dev and I hate email. Email is horrible, it's barely changed since the 90's. I hate Slack and Skype as well, Discord is so much easier for my needs. I even set up some bots to tell me build statuses in their own channel.</rant>9
What email service are you using for your domains? I used zoho for a while, but those assholes keep randomly locking my accounts (an email always activates those again, but fuck knows how much emails I missed during not noticing it) - thought about going with the general hype of Tutanota around here, but it seems like it doesn't really support multiple custom domain mailboxes? Also tried just now msgsafe.io - it seems fine, but the way it handles multiple domain mailboxes is just disgusting, because it just throws them all together and you have to "filter" to get mails from only one domain.26
So i want to send DevRant an Email to for free stickers, i Live outside US and am confused by what they mean by
" make sure to format your address so it can be copied directly onto a label."
I need your thoughts on a privacy related matter. I find this fact being very provocative.
So, at work we use Gmail:
Person AB has email AB@company.tld
Person ABC has email ABC@company.tld
How is it that when you send an e-mail to AB, that ABC sends back a god damn Out-of-office, without ABC being in either To, CC or BCC?
I reckon that the mailbox AB is owned by said company, and ABC is the owner of all those accounts. But shouldn't the contents of such mailbox still be private in some regard? (At least until AB isn't in the company anymore?)
It's funny, as a customer said she got an out of office from ABC, while solely sending one to AB.. I noticed this a few weeks back, and I'm rather infuriated by the fact that there's a possibility that every e-mail AB reveives, also ends up in in ABC's box.
Wtf. Why is using mail templates in nodejs so complicated in comparison to eg Laravel?!?! I have to install 3 packages with 20+ dependencies and setting it up is a hell -.- I'm losing my love for node since I got to know laravel3
Email all staff. Important! We are having problems with the firewall.
Sure as shit we still get the help desk emails that start "is there a problems with email"
Hi all, I'm looking to setup an email with a custom domain for all things dev related and as a sort of professional contact.
I have a domain registered which is just my name.me but I'm torn between email@example.com or something like firstname.lastname@example.org.
Avoiding using the line "...and this conversation is over" aka Suits-style, to simply STOP THE MADNESS!
I think im lucky. I have recieved only 3 gdpr related emails.
Am I lucky or is the shitstorm just about to begin? 🤣2
Does anyone know of any software I can use to monitor a RAID 1 array health. Ideally ild like an email if one of the drives has failed/removed.
On a side note thank god for RAID 😅3
Does anybody know a good (almost as good as Gmail) open-source browser-based email client? Thank you!6
(Asking for someone I’ve been mentoring.)
TLDR; Looking for recommended resources on how to code email templates from scratch.
I’ve been helping a friend transition their career from sales to web development and recently he applied for a position as a jr developer for an ecommerce startup. They liked him and they’re willing to create a new position for him where he’ll work with both the marketing department and the development team. He’ll start with building email templates for the marketing department and eventually move on to development as he grows his skills. I’d really appreciate it if I could get some recommended resources for learning how to code email templates from scratch and from PSDs. This would be a life changer for him and I’m trying to do as much as I can to help me out.4
Maybe a wierd question, I'm transitioning from a VPS with panel to a dedicated server without (because I want to learn how to do it my self) but I'm having problems with the email server. It is a Ubuntu based server and I was wondering if someone can teach me how to set it up.13
Lost my password to my hostmaze login because LastPass didn't save it properly. Now I can't reset it because their mailing server is not working (found out after emails failed to send to their support email with an error on their end). Their chat is also non-responsive.... What do I do now...
created about 1000 test users for my system all with fake email addresses. forgot about the welcome email that goes out. SendGrid was not happy with all the bounces and trashed the reputation score. whoops1
Hate building custom email templates to only find out that a client doesn't even know how to use it their own email platform. Platforms include, ConstantContact, Exact target, Mail chomp, etc.
Has anyone ever gotten used to using Microsoft email inbox (Outlook or Live or Microsoft online or whatever the heck it's called)? I feel completely lost whenever I check my university emails. Gmail is so nice and clean.
Also, to them privacy freaks, what do you guys use if not for gmail?5
I thought having to test my website on different browsers was bad enough, its a few hours to close of work and I still cant figure out sending a html email because of cross-client compatibility. Waiting on the day when this will be history.
You have email address and password for accesing it. Have you ever used same email and password for signing up for some account on web, and asked yourself can someone from that web use your password to access your email?
Why is everybody writing Jira comments as emails?!! If they write 5 comments two the same issue they use the same format.
Now I have to respond the same way....
Someone posted a link to a 30-day-security-challenge here on devRant some time ago and I just thought well, why not try to migrate away from the big companies - I've been using OneDrive as my only cloudstorage since the time when it was called SkyDrive and I've been hosting my Emails at outlook (via Live Custom Domains, a service that does not even exist anymore) for about 8 years now. Since I've always been lazy and since exchange activesync is a great feature if you have multiple calendars and want to sync them and your contacts to several devices I never tried to switch but now I am half done with migrating my data to my own nextcloud installation and my emails to my own mail server - since I don't want to loose the exchange functionality I am also setting up Z-Push and oh boy, this thing is bitching around but my webmail is already nicely integrated into nextcloud, IMAP / SMTP is up, configured and secured (still have to mess around with spamassassin as this email adress is floating around the web for about 10 years now). The only things to do is to get Z-Push work with STARTTLS and the card/caldav backend running and then the basic setup should be done.
I am just wondering if someone could hand me over a guide on how to sign / encrypt emails (GPG?)
The hard programmer life : you write a super random email to do a urgent test and it is fucking taken.
OSX users: What's your preferred mail app? I know I can use the web for that but I'd prefer a native solution because of the system integration (notifications, sharing).
The default Mail app is too primitive. I also tried Postbox but it always felt a bit rough and with today's paid update I think I may as well try to find a better alternative.
So, what are your suggestions and why?6
Am thinking of hosting an e-commerce web app but also get the benefits for google apps for work.....
any idea for the reliable and affordable service??1
