* Me to a girl*
Me : Hey can I know your age?
Her: I can't tell the age like that!
Me: Oh! I see! Can I get your email address so that I can contact you later!
Me : —_(@_@)_—13
So my Cyber Security lecturer was talking about scam emails and how potential hackers can spoof their identity in order to gain information or get some malware on your PC.
Since this was all really obvious, I decided to email him with a crude scam email myself for the lols.
To his credit he saw the funny side.5
I have this old lady that I help from time to time with her computer issues.
She is nice, so I feel compelled to help her.
Get a call one day.
Lady : "hello, my internet and email isn't working, I've tried everything, could you maybe help me?"
Me : "Sure, ill come over after work and check it out"
*arrive at her house*
Lady : "you see, none of the web pages load, and my email refuses to sync. Should I call (insert isp name), or can you fix it?"
Me : I'm sure I can get it, gimme a sec.
*find the issue in a sec or two, dunno how to tell her about it, she isn't totally stupid*
Me : "Uhh, I don't know if you checked, but the ether.. internet cable isn't plugged in"
Lady : *realizes the wtf moment I'm having, obviously feeling very stupid*
Me : "Don't worry, happens to the best of us"
Obviously I lied a little, most of us would probably check the damn cable. Sometimes is just better to make people not feel like its their fault. People learn better when they don't feel like something is making a fool of them.
I have helped this lady with so many things that are just straight out of this world.
The one time she tried emailing 37mb tiff files over her 315kbps network.
Another time she said her email was not syncing, so I went to her house and clicked the "sync" button.
She even once phoned me to get their wifi password.
I just like helping her, somehow it makes me feel as if we all have something to learn.6
Spaces Vs Tabs - A real world case.
So one of the menial tasks I was given here was to take a pretty mock and turn it into an HTML email template. Needless to say, I hate emails and HTML.
After many weeks of trial and error, rejection and tweaks, we're doing our final tests when someone noticed that Google's clients are chopping off the footer and saying "View Full Email".
A few searches yield that Google has a 102KB cut off for email size. We did some checks and found that we were at 104KB. I immediately thought it was my CSS inliner being a little too verbose, but as I went in to edit things, I noticed that the file was intended with spaces!
Now I'm a fan of Silicon Valley, and I recalled an episode from this past season where Richard mentioned something about saving file size by using tabs. I had never really considered that point.
So I went back into VSCode and told it to convert all of the individual templates that make up this giant email to indent with tabs...
The file size dropped from 104kb to 82kb.
I wasn't very polarized on the Tabs vs Spaces debate, but this here has given me a nice real world example as to why tabs rule.21
The moment when someone asks " what's the difference between gmail and email ""
And all you did was staring as if you don't know the answer7
Senior Dev: "Be mindful of what you email to the team, some may be rubbed the wrong way."
Me: "I'm going on a year, I figured it was okay to send a meme when appropriate like [the other guy]."
Senior Dev: "Well, [the other guy] has been here for 17 years, so it's sort of expected from him."
Me: "You know what would be weird? If I was here for 17 more years and then 'started' having fun with the team."
Senior Dev: "Yes, but [the other guy] is the only one doing his particular job, which makes him important, so he tends to get away with more."
Me: "No, I get it. If you're a linchpin you can reply with cat memes, but people like me need to mind their place."
Senior Dev: "It's an uncomfortable conversation, but it's all bureaucracy."
Me: "Duly noted. But could you please forward me the specific email I sent that caused the concern?"
Senior Dev: "I'm not sure what the exact email was, when it was sent, or specifically whom it offended."
Me: "Okay, because that would be like me walking up to you and saying that you have a problem that needs to be fixed, but I don't know what your problem is or why it needs to be addressed."
Senior Dev: "You're right, but just be mindful of the emails you send outside of the group."
Me: "I've never group-emailed anything outside of the team."
Senior Dev: "Well, I'll let you get back to work..."
I thought I knew English until I heard my neighbour explaining the difference between Email and Gmail,
(1)Email - the mails which are sent using Electricity
(2)Gmail -the mails which are sent using a Generator11
Alright so here goes, I currently work at a promising startup. Absolutely love it; nice, hard-working colleagues but there's only a couple of us so we all have to wear a multitude of hats.
I don't mind being on support duty or helping out a customer with a technical question but one thing that really gets to me is lazy people.
We have some instructional videos (made in-house by yours truly) around certain functionality in our app which can't be simplified any further and they're condensed to about 50 seconds each.
I receive an email from a customer saying that he wants the instructions in screenshot form instead of watching the video because he 'detests' watching videos.
I must admit, I was a little hurt because he dismissed my videos so easily without even watching them. Just because he really doesn't like to watch videos? I was dumbfounded.
Me putting (most of) my rustled jimmies aside, I take about an hour to screenshot and document each step of the instructions and send them to the customer with a note: Be careful, if you scroll too fast it turns into a video.
I receive a response saying he doesn't like to watch videos because he is deaf but he did admit he had a chuckle.
Morale of the story lads, keep the sass in in your IDE's and out of your customer interactions.
Just got this email with no body, and a vague subject / title in all caps.
... you ask questions on stackoverflow don't you13
How do I un-idiot my users when it comes to clicking on dodgy email-links??
Got a forwarded email just there from a user who said;
Is the below ok to open?
I just tried but got a popup saying I've been blocked from opening it.
I'm not sure who it is coming from and I am not waiting on anything but as it says its from dropbox and is important, i know it's okay.
Can you unblock the link ASAP please?
This is really impeding my work-day as I need to know what it is and act accordingly.
The Original email came from a random jumble of letters with a subject line of 'important dropbox program' - not only does it look dodgy but its english is horrible! It said;
"Hi tu my freind,
You tu still read a pending verrry important document sent by one of your own contact to be vieweddd.
Install "Highly Confidential english.pdf" by clickinggg here
*insert link leading to something called 'viral-update-trojan.exe'*"
I mean, seriously... help!!! 😢
We have sent emails explaining how to hover over links and to not to click them if it looks wrong.
No one does it.
We hired a company to send fake phishing emails to train users in what to do.
It made no difference!
We now make people 'verify' their email addresses when opening any sort of link to try get them to actually look at what they're opening.
We also strip emails of original attachments and create 'safe' html copies as we can't trust them to look at what they're opening.
Everyone complains about it but Jesus Christ, this is why!!!
Its so exhausting!! What is wrong with people!!! Argh!!! 😤16

Product sending an email: Can I confirm feature A is all set for its release on April 30th?
Me: ... what? no that feature is going out with Feature B, that was pushed back to June because of the server issue.
Product: No, the release plan document says April 30th for this.
Me: ... theres 6 copies of this doc now. Someone is after deleting my comments saying "releasing with Feature B". Oh look heres a link to another doc that says this. See Feb14th "Will go out with Feature B". This is because they are touching the same code, we can't separate them now without re-writing it.
*Me to myself*: Ha product are going to hate this, their shitty processes have finally caught up with them.
Other manager: So heres my plan for the app release x, y, z.
*Me to myself*: ... his plan? this is my app, I mange this. What the hell is this?
*reads email thread*
*Me to myself*: ... oh so product really didn't like my reply, took me off the thread, sent a response to all the other managers asking for alternatives, CC'ing upper management. The same upper management I had a private conversation with yesterday about how shit our product team are.
I'm going to enjoy writing this reply.12

What a day and what an achievement!!!
Today ladies and gentlemen I broke my record for number of passive aggressive “as per last email” comments, in a single email.
I now stand at 11
Today is a great day and I’d like to thank everyone not reading my emails who got me to this point. You guys are the real record holders!5
I hate it when I click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email (which is in fact hidden by making the text color slightly darker/lighter than the background of the email ) and it takes me to some freaking website where I have to like summon a demon and sacrifice a virgin to unsubscribe from their emailing list and they send me another email saying I have successfully unsubscribe and if I want to resubscribe again and with you guest it another unsubscribe button at the end of that email .....6
Tutanota (encrypted email service) has a newly designed interface.

Email from a company I applied To:
"Hi... We will be in touch by the 7th of November"
Me:... It's December already. Maybe I missed it.
Second email: "Sorry! Typo. It's meant to say 7th of November. Refer to this instead"
THIRD email: "So sorry. Or mailing system is failing so disregard all those emails and refer to this one. Thank you."

Cleaned up my email and deleted 45k emails and unsubscribed from ~80+ services and added ~100+ filters to sort and auto-delete new emails. Now I have no unread messages.16
I haven't checked my work email in a month or two.
We use slack, so every time someone needs me they just message me there or text me. It works nicely. I also dislike email in general.
Anyway: I looked at my inbox this morning, and again just now. I've gotten just over 900 emails today.
Tons of useless alerts on a shoddy as hell codebase. As an example: Every time a coworker uses a tool or lookup with a sub-par query, it ties up the single shared database long enough to generate response time alerts.
As a better example, there are many many many informational alerts that intentionally begin with "500 Internal" specifically to trigger an email alert. Why? I guess they were useful at some point?
There's just so much to fix...
And I guess I don't care enough.
On the bright side: this gives me a great reason to ignore my email!6

STUPID SHIT ASS EMAIL POLICIES NOT ALLOWING ME TO SEND CERTAIN FILE TYPES TO A SUPPORT MEMBER WHEN THERE ARE FUCKING PROBLEMS WITH THE PRODUCTION SITE. THE GUY THAT SET UP THOSE POLICIES CAN ROLL THEM UP AND STICK THEM IN HIS ASS.
There that's better...10
Best part about IT culture is how you send someone an e-mail & then you have to go and tell them that you've sent an email.
It happens to me often!!! 🤣🤣2
You notice that you're a programmer when you automatically put a semicolon behind a closing bracket in an email instead of a dot.4
Fucking precious fragile snowflake dick heads.

! a Rant
Dear fellow devRanters!
I have an announcement to make. After we shared Programmer’s Music (www.programmersmusic.com) on devRant, we had so many awesome user started using our service and they still do. We love you all for that and thank you for you continuous support and use.
Now that our team has become more focused and productive, we took upon a new problem to tackle a few months back. The problem we chose is about increasing email productivity and ability to comprehend knowledge hidden in emails in a more effective way. We are excited to introduce ‘Altmail’! (https://www.altmail.in)
We believe that there’s a hidden treasure in your inbox waiting to be explored. All those newsletters and blog updates, all those deals, all those Medium digests and LinkedIn alerts, contain keys to becoming a better version of yourself. So we have made it Altmail’s mission to help you spend less time organising and more time acquiring knowledge. Altmail transforms your cluttered inbox into the source of knowledge, automagically.
We are currently in private beta and have limited invites left, to be specific 33 out of 100. Please check it out here - http://at.altmail.in/devRant!
We are looking forward to your honest feedback! :)
Thanks a ton!
When your client thinks they will get a quicker response by emailing you the same email to multiple addresses, they don't know I have a filter that sends them straight to the shithead folder skipping the inbox! Bye bye problem.1
Sometimes I wonder how compromised my parents online security would be without my intervention.
My mom logged into her gmail and there was an red bar on top informing about Google preventing an attempted login from an unknown device.
Like typical parents / old people, that red bar didn't caught her attention but I noticed it immediately. I took over and looked into it. It showed an IP address and a location that was quite odd.
I went ahead with the Account security review and I was shocked to find that she had set her work email address as the recovery email!!
I explained her that work email accounts cannot be trusted and IT department of the workplace can easily snoop emails and other info on that email address and should not be related to personal accounts.
After fixing that issue, me being a typical skeptic and curious guy, I decided to find more info about that IP address.
I looked up the IP address on a lookup website and it showed an ISP that was related to the corporate office of her workplace. I noticed the location Google reported also matched with the corporate office location of her work.
Prior to this event, few days ago, I had made her change her gmail account password to a more secure one. ( Her previous password was her name followed by birth date!! ). This must have sent a notification to the recovery mail address.
All these events are connected. It is very obvious that someone at corporate office goes through employees email addresses and maybe even abuse those information.
My initial skeptism of someone snooping throguh work email addresses was right.
You're welcome mom!9
It seems every public business wifi in my city requires an email address to login.
Funny thing is they never verify them. I guess they think if you're dumb enough to put in your real email you'll be a sucker for whatever marketing scheme they'll send you.
I do feel bad for firstname.lastname@example.org though10
I finished two projects. Both of them need to connect to each other. However, the tool to do that is not currently licensed to achieve my desired outcome. I email my boss to check the status of the license key I need, that they promised, and the only thing I get back is "Correct." Seriously? 😠 The person who has the company credit card and authority to buy, also the same one that gives me a deadline to turn this shit in, can't give me the time of day to respond to an email? Their response wasn't even relevant. I've been trying to move beyond this roadblock for a week now! I'm a pretty independent guy, but I'm not going to buy the license myself for a tool that I didn't even want to use. So when someone comes to my cube and I'm raging on Steam, ✋ I don't want to hear anything about company time, because mine isn't being respected either. 👊👊
Holy shit, wrote bitwarden an email and I shit you not, 15 seconds later I got a reply answering my question, not via bot but an actual human, then answered that email with a much more detailled question and got an answer yet again 25 seconds later, insane. 😶4
Just got an email from a professor.

Just got a call from IT people. They asked for a file which I already sent an email to them two days ago. When I told them that, they whined -- "You should have called me that you sent an email, I don't normally check it."
Didn't expect that kind of excuse from IT people... Or maybe my expectation was too high 😑2
Will add better photos in the comments!
A client of mine received an spoofed email from their domain. It was a

Maybe someone here can explain what the script does?

Just got this spam email, does anyone know what kind of "personal reason" she actually got in github?13
Hell is accidentally clicking on, instead of copying, an email URL and having to wait forty years for some email program you didn't even know existed to rise from its slumber like some Lovecraftian ancient god, meanwhile the fans on your laptop are preparing for takeoff and you stare dead-eyed as the rainbow spirals, spirals, spirals. you wait and suffer this cosmic karma. days pass. “just a few more seconds” you slur. your laptop freezes and the concept of time is no longer comprehensible. your family and friends forget your name and you fade from existence.2
CompanyYouNeverHeardOf sends you IrrelevantNewsletter512... so you hunt for the unsubscribe link, which you find buried in the boilerplate crap at the bottom of the mail, rendered in #eee on a #fff background, in 4-point type, and click that. End up on a web site that asks you like 8 times if you're sure you want to leave and please, reconsider, we're nice folk really, blah blah blah. And then you get *another* email from them saying they received your unsubscribe request, and *then* yet another to confirm that yes, you unsubscribed, and please feel free to re-sub anytime (as if!)
GOD I HATE MARKETEERS!!!1one10
- popunder background bitcoin miners did become a thing
- keybase android beta uploaded your privatekey to google servers "accidentally"
- you can spoof email headers via encoded chars, because most apps literally just render them apparently
- imgur leaked 1.7 million user accounts, protected by sha-256 "The company made sure to note that the compromised account information included only email addresses and passwords" - yeah "only", ofcourse imgur, ofcourse.
I guess the rant I did on Krahk etc. just roughly a month ago, can always be topped by something else.
We have 1 client that refuses to put a title in every email she sends.
It is very annoying that you have to open every email to know what the email is about.
How hard can it be to add a title because she always write a book in the email.6
Got some feedback for an app today via email...
"You are a fucking idiot! Stupid piece of shit!" Well, I guess one user didn't like it then... Rude fucking wankhat!4
Just received an email from a client letting me know they can't access their email. It was in reply to an email I sent. What?5
Email piping chat system.
The chat system had to take replies from web and send them to an email, which the admin user can reply back via email and it publishes straight into the chat.
It was all fun and games until they wanted HTML based emails and content going back and forth, and attachments going both ways.4
So fucking apparently, you can text a phone through email! Yeah, TIL about something called sms gateways, which most mobile providers have, which allow you to essentially email the phone number, and have a text message delivered to that number. For example, I have MetroPCS so mine would be
Someone in Indonesia is using my email adress to order stuff from a site called Lazada. My email account is not compromised as far as I know. But It's really annoying always getting order confirmation emails in bahasa Indonesia.

So, my officemate was inquiring about a job posting using her work email. She asked me if I'm interested and forwarded the email to me. Only to realize afterwards that she had it sent to the wrong email address. Take note, she's also sending it to my company email. Since the email she put on it doesn't match any addresses on our domain, it was sent to our CEO (the admin of the company domain) which in turn, forwarded it to me. I can't imagine the look on the CEO's face when he saw the job invitation email.6

Today one person called me to ask if he could create a corporate email without buying the domain.

Playing email tennis with a client trying to get to the specifics of a vague initial request. Difficult to do without being patronising and condescending. Having to read and edit my emails to make them believe that I don't think they are a useless fucking incompetent twat.2
Often I hear that one should block spam email based on content match rather than IP match. Sometimes even that blocking Chinese ranges in particular is prejudiced and racist. Allow me to debunk that after I've been looking at traffic on port 25 with tcpdump for several weeks now, and got rid of most of my incoming spam too.
There are these spamhausen that communicate with my mail server as much as every minute.
All of them are Chinese. They make up - rough guess - around 90% of the traffic that hits my edge nodes, if not more.
The network ranges I've blocked are apparently as follows:
- 22.214.171.124/24 (Russia)
- 126.96.36.199/11 (China)
- 188.8.131.52 (Ecuador)
- 184.108.40.206 (Russia)
- 220.127.116.11/20 (China)
- 18.104.22.168/16 (China)
- 22.214.171.124/19 (China)
.. apparently I blocked that one twice, heh
- 126.96.36.199/12 (China)
- 188.8.131.52/19 (China)
It's not all China but holy hell, a lot of spam sure comes from there, given how Golden Shield supposedly blocks internet access to the Chinese citizens. A friend of mine who lives in China (how he got past the firewall is beyond me, and he won't tell me either) told me that while incoming information is "regulated", they don't give half a shit about outgoing traffic to foreign countries. Hence all those shitty filter bag suppliers and whatnot. The Chinese government doesn't care.
So what is the alternative like, that would block based on content? Well there are a few solutions out there, namely SpamAssassin, ClamAV and Amavis among others. The problem is that they're all very memory intensive (especially compared to e.g. Postfix and Dovecot themselves) and that they must scan every email, and keep up with evasion techniques (such as putting the content in an image, or using characters from different character sets t̾h̾a̾t̾ ̾l̾o̾o̾k̾ ̾s̾i̾m̾i̾l̾a̾r̾).
But the thing is, all of that traffic comes from a certain few offending IP ranges, and an iptables rule that covers a whole range is very cheap. China (or any country for that matter) has too many IP ranges to block all of them. But the certain few offending IP ranges? I'll take a cheap IP-based filter over expensive content-based filters any day. And I don't want to be shamed for that.7
Dear email marketers:
I don't owe you anything just because you bought my contact information from some sketchy company. If I was interested in your garbage sales pitch I would fucking reply! Quit nagging me for a response and go get real jobs you fucking twats!2
Never write your email adress on a building. And it you do, don't use web.de (basically German and more shitty version of yahoo). Spoted in a fancy business district in central Berlin.8
To all the web developers out there that use email validation, stop using a check for common domain names! If I try to sign up with my email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) it won't work! So stop doing that and use a RegEx please! Who has had this problem too?10

Just stumbled across this gem last night. You guys know how biggest online games site in my country (also backed up by largest ISP) handles reset password requests?
After clicking "Forgot password", it asks you to login to Gmail (cause everyone is assumed to have and use one, right?) and then opens "New Email" window prefilled with some template data which you're expected to finish (in screenshot below).
And I just wanted to play some Ludo with my friends.. 🙄🙈2
This works: email@example.com
Spam filtering protip:
Did you know that the email spec allows you to use firstname.lastname@example.org and the emails still come to you. This is especially useful when registering to a lot of places where you are not sure whether they will spam you or not. Filtering will be easy because you have a unique email address for each service. Also you can find out which service leaked your email address to spammers.
Additionally if you want to register to a service with two accounts but still want to use the same email, you can do this easily by adding +whatever in your email address.6
This will be long and it's more of an IT rant, but I think it still fits.
So a user comes to me and says "hey on my phone I can't see anything in my junk email folder but there are a bunch of emails in there on my PC." I take a look at the Outlook app on his phone. The "Junk" folder that he has open is actually in his deleted items folder. So clearly it's not the real junk folder. There are no other folders named "Junk", but there is one named "Spam". I open that and there are a bunch of emails in there.
ME: "Does this look like what you were expecting to see?"
USER: "Oooohhh so you think it's called "Spam" instead of "Junk" on my phone?"
ME: "I'm not sure, does this look like what you were expecting to see?"
USER: "See, I always thought junk and spam were two different things."
ME: (grinding my teeth and taking a deep breath) "Does. This. Look. Like. What. You. Were. Expecting. To. See?"
USER: "Yeah, looks like it."
OK THEN FRICKING TAKE YOUR PHONE AND GET OUT OF MY OFFICE.
I didn't really say that last bit, but I sure was tempted to.9
Luv this fake email I received yesterday, didn't know Microsoft used DPD to deliver their emails lol!!!6
Marking your email as "High Priority" does not make it high priority. Nor will it get it attended to any faster. But keep believing it will, dear colleagues. Live happily in your little fantasy worlds.3
Something that really irritates me is when someone requests a read receipt for an email. My team of 4 including my team leader has several apps that we own with several different product owners. Sometimes one of the product owners or someone who works for them sends an email and requests a read receipt. I feel like that is very cocky, like they are trying to exert control over me or something deeper. Maybe it's just me.5
PSA to /[devs who things it's a good idea|management who thinks it's a good idea to force your devs]+/g:
There currently exists 1543 (and counting) top level domains. My email addresses follow the pattern: /^[a-z]+@panduro\.guru$/ and I die a little inside whenever I get told my email addresses aren't valid because you thought it was a good idea (to force your devs) to hardcode "valid" top level domains. There is a reason why the filter for input type email does not include top level domains.
And you can't even begin to comprehend how mildly annoyed I get when I message their support and tell them what the problem is (because I'm nice enough to do that) they instead of telling me "thanks for informing us we'll look into it" they tell me "well just get a gmail or something". I should not have to order social status reducing items with my school mail (especially not since I'll loose that email ¾ pairs of years)7
Registered an account with a local pizza business and rated them 5* on Yell moments before checking my email and finding they had emailed me my unencrypted password, GREAT NOW I WON'T BE ABLE TO EAT4
I setup an email server a couple of months ago.
The amount of port scans and brute force attacks I've received this month alone is awful.
JUST SOD OFF ALREADY, PLEASE.20
The cleaning lady saga continues...
Had an appointment with their manager, stuff gets discussed and coordinated at a 3x slower pace than if I'd done it myself (as usual because fuck efficiency when there's muggles involved -_-), yada yada.
*mail addresses for contact start getting discussed*
Incompetent fuck of a manager: And you $realName, your email address is $email@example.com, then changed to $firstname.lastname@example.org? Mind explaining this?
Me: Oh yeah that's just because I give out different email addresses to each contact person when it involves public forms or registrations, helps with spam prevention and putting the company name of the correspondent in there helps with easy recognition when some company's database leaks and I start getting a lot of spam on that mailbox.
IFOM: Really.. we actually weren't sure whether we should reply to something with our company name in it.. you know, not sure whether it's legit etc. Why would anyone want to use one of our email addresses as theirs?
… Let that sink in for a moment. They think that $email@example.com is theirs? Just because it's their domain (minus TLD) in front of MY FUCKING DOMAIN? How about you start by learning how email addresses work first, because clearly you have no fucking clue about it. Are you the kind of brainless fucks that get lured in by http://totallylegitbank.com.freehost.com/... scams? Fucking stupid piece of fucking shit.
Oh, and when you're using MS Exchange, of course you can't know that when you're having your own domain, you actually also own every fucking mailbox on it, because Microshaft doesn't allow you to have more than n amount of mailboxes, unless you gobble up money for them. But you know what, in my case it's a fucking catch-all domain running Linux on its servers, so yeah I can use whatever the fuck I want in front of it, including your stupid fucking cleaning company.
IFOM: And then there's your current designated email address. $firstname.lastname@example.org..
Oh you're going to criticise that as well?! Yeah condor is my fucking nickname all over the internet, and my username on all my systems. That's why I use it. But you know what else is an email address that you might come across, because people are shallow idiots like that? ILoveBigTits69@gmail.com or something like that. You know what, how about I address you next time from ILoveBigTits69_OhAndYoursAreAWashboard@nixmagic.com, because you know what? I CAN FUCKING DO THAT. But you know, I at least am halfway fucking professional about my business-related stuff, so I won't because I really don't want to be associated with such an email address. So don't you fucking dare to criticize me for using my fucking nickname instead of my real name.
Long story short, people are fucking idiots.6
My father calls me very worried: hey, do you know your mother's email login username and password? We need it
Me: no? Why would I?
My father: well, she sent it to you on email when she created it, so you'd remember!
Best email of the year so far, from a "reputable" IT supplier.
I had asked for numerous copies of x86 and x64 copies of Windows 7.
Clarification email came back "I can't find an 84 bit copy of Windows. Can you clarify?"
Not sure that mail will be beaten this year. They weren't even looking for an 86 bit version.
Unfortunately I just had to explain rather than play along for a few hours as time limited.
Yei, I've bought a domain like "mysurname.me" and setup a new email at ProtonMail like "email@example.com".
How many of you have such an email? :312
An online shop ... something like Amazon Shopping for South East Asia keeps on sending me their newsletter even though I have already unsubscribed. I wish they'd hire me to take care of their email service.
Although I doubt this is a bug and perhaps one of a schemes of the marketing department and they are already aware of this. Sneaky corporate bastards.7
Germany is a nice place, but sometimes the bureaucracy is a bit much.
Especially when you try to write them a nice mail that you can't come to their "mandatory" appointment.
Because you're sick, like every damn time during the autumn holidays.
An email to an address where the hostname doesn't even exist. WTF?
Also don't you think that address is a bit too long? Chances for typos are pretty high when you do that, you know?5
Automatic email for time after 19 clock:
if (sender == MyBoss)
Mail.Respond("Get the hell out of my personal life, you have to wait for tomorrow you bastard.\n
When you get an email sent out to the entire company (such as someone's promotion) and people proceed to reply all3
Let's share information! Communicate! How do we do it? Via email!
You got question? Send an emai!
You want to share some excel? Send an email!
Not sure who to ask? Send the email to everyone!
Have a 100 message long email thread and then need some help? Send the whole fucking thread to me and just add "what do'ya think?"!
Send some attachment in email and then 2 weeks later refer to it saying "but I sent the file to you!"? Well surely I can remember your special email from the hundreds of email I get every week.
I did complain to the mangers that why the hell do we have these mega-email-threads? Why do you send all the meaningles release notes to the whole company? The anwer is simple: all information needes to be transparent and if you don't need the info, then just don't read the email!
And fuck you, you CEO wanna-be who sends seasonal greetings through his secretary and thinks anyone gives a shit.4
At my first job, our employee email addresses followed a somewhat unusual naming convention: last name plus first initial, e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org for John Smith.
They were ultimately forced to change it, though, when they received a complaint from a new employee. His name? Tommy Shi...6
Next 3 days I' ll be working on moving our email server to new server because the old datacenter is closing down. Clients are pissed and they are fucking verbally bashing me left to right when I told them that their emails will be down since most of them host their own DNS.
I am fucked.3
I seriously hate email problems with a passion. Like even when I step through every setting, checking things one by one. Everything seems fine, yet my clients email is getting rejected incoming and out and the only error is basically whoops it bounced! pretty much anything could've cause this.. yeah that's very helpful.7
PM sends email to development team with the whole management team in cc.
"Guys, the data is not updating correctly! Make sure all the updates are being done! If we can't get this right then we can just forget about this whole thing!"
Me: Yes, because making generalized statements and inflammatory remarks actually help in correcting the problems...
My university alerts all student and staff any time a phishing email is reported. I've yet to attend one class, and I've received a few dozen emails alerting you of phishing emails being sent. It's sad people can't notice the pattern of the emails, and realize right away "Hey this is a bullshit email" and not rely on the alerts.
It's the 21st century; basic computer competency is a necessity.3
I just finished a meeting that had also been an email. You know how it went: boss just reading the email out loud1
When you answer an email right away and a couple of days later they ask you if you received their email.2
I have waited for years for a recruiter to finally slip up and do this incorrectly. And today, my prayers were answered.3
I saw that a co-worker had left their office email open on their machine, so I typed out a huge hate mail of the upper management and then announced resignation for the poor work culture that the company provided. Then I edited the email to be a bit more nice. I added some praise about the company - about having the opportunity to work in the company and for the amazing colleagues (and mentioned my own name) in the first paragraph. To close the email, I wrote :
"PS : This is what happens if you leave your machine open for the office to do as they please"
I first sent out a copy to myself (as proof) with the cover :
" Hey, check this out, I'm sending this out to email@example.com in a while. I want to let you know that none of this is directed at you. You've been an amazing colleague and mentor. You've been my inspiration from the start; from the time I joined the team. I'm honoured that I got to work with you. I hope we can remain friends as we are now, meet up once in a while outside work and discuss life. "
And then I put the actual email up in the compose window with the to field addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org. I didn't hit send.
Funnily, enough, this person never found out that it was me who actually typed out the whole email for another 1.5 months. They probably looked into their Sent folder later on when they saw the email that I sent to myself. They replied to it saying :
"Thank you for not sending out that email that day. I've been very very extra careful (I didn't understand the "very, very, extra" part) since that day"
I replied that it was only to prove a point and that I thought the point was well conveyed.
I had a good laugh that day. Since then, every time we crossed paths, we had that look in our eyes that met and only the 2 of us understood.1
Been thinking about registering the domain "(my last name).email" so I could have "email@example.com" Checked Namecheap and it's 2.99 a year. Hmmmm...6
Some websites be like -
Please re enter your email address - [I copy, paste the address from previous field]
And I'm like that was so pointless 🤔2
Email is horrible.
CSS in email is fucked.
People never check their spam filter / who the fuck knows when the spam filter might decide legit shit is spam.
Every other god damn day some new shit comes up.
Today some sort of either antivirus or email filter or spam / malware detecting shit seems to be crawling every fucking link in an email our customer's send to their customer's.
Activating every option such as declining shit or accepting it... well actually ALL THOSE OPTIONS.
End user can't tell of course so I (and others) have to find this out.
I hate people that sends an email with a question and when you fail to reply within their arbitrary deadline (not in the email) they email you the same question but copying your boss and your boss's boss when they could've literally just walk 20 steps to ask the same question5
See, there's a difference between scammers that know how to email, and ones who don't. There's a thing called BCC that DOESN'T reveal everyone you're sending the email to. LEARN TO USE IT!
Subject: a rant for devRant
Not entirely sure why or when exactly it happened, but after I joined mailing lists I have a pet peeve for people who don't use a proper subject line, or don't use email when I literally made a mail server for that purpose (some organizations really prefer calling apparently). Is it really that hard to summarize a message in one sentence? Hell half the time even the message itself is just a few sentences.
Also the greeting and salutation at the beginning and end of email messages. I find them so redundant. Has anyone ever gotten any meaningful information out of "Hello", "Greetings", "Dear", or something like that? Or "Best regards" or whatever. I get that it's just being polite but it's so meaningless! I really don't like using them anymore. Just a message block and who it came from, that's all it needs to me. Instead pour some effort into the damn subject, the title of whatever drivel you're putting out there! Or replying to an email *only* when the subject matter is still related! Or actually replying to the damn email if it's still that subject matter...
I probably sound like an old man, but seriously.. email isn't a hard concept once you "get it". Anyone can write a halfway decent letter, why isn't that the case for email?
Are IT ppl working in gov agencies retards? Today I got another email where all 100+ recipients were put in CC. WTF!$@#!
Ppl should get fired over this shit.
Would you trigger the reply-to-all with a pissed off attitude or what?5
Uh-oh I fucked up.
Not at work, but with my website where I had an email forwarder to an external address. The forwarding was everything so that I could do the spam filtering and occasional check in one place. Unfortunately, that triggered the spam detection at the external address (after some years!), and my provider ended up on a blacklist.
That got me a pretty angry mail from my hosting provider who had already disabled the forwarding and wanted to make sure that I understood the issue and would not put it in again.
I thought about whether they had fucked up because it was even possible to do that, or whether I had fucked up because I should have known. Hm yeah I opted for the latter and apologised.
The support guy seemed happy that I didn't try to argue (possibly like other customers...), and advised that I just should add another account in my email client. Sure, at least that will prevent this shit from happening again.
He also mentioned that every single blacklist issue they had experienced in this year was accidental due to external forwarding issues and that they would consider just disabling it altogether.
Which is probably a smart move, just as hint for these ranters here who work at hosting companies. Or at least only enable external forwarding if spam assassin or so is in place.3
Notification pops up at the bottom of the screen... it is an email from a Project Manager.
2 seconds later...
Project Manager via messaging app: "Hey, I've sent you an email"
fuck off bitch... I know that already, it is 20fucking19... notifications are reliable and they work. I don't need a human toast notification to tell me about the other notification that i just received.5
Trying to send email to someone who is using Office365 for their email hosting.
Outgoing email server IP address is blocked..
Had to phone up the company and tell them, obviously they wouldn't know if anyone else couldn't email them unless they too phoned and asked how come they aren't answering their emails !
I wonder how many customers they are losing because of it !20
Yes, a plus, i.e. `+`, is a fucking valid char for an email address.
Your online service is shit, you don't know your craft, and you should feel bad about yourself!
But you thought email is fucking simple, google for email validation regex and took copy pasted the first fucking find from some random blog that validates anything but an actual fucking valid email addresses, didn't you!?
(Funfact, the plus sign allow to create email aliases in some free mailer services. GMail for instance. That's why I l like using emails like my.actual.mail+I_KNOW_WHY_YOU_ARE_SENDING_SPAM@gmail.com as my registration email. Also, brute-force that login email.)3
I woke up because someone was calling me to eat something since breakfast is out...
Then I check my email and people were pressuring me to finish project X (won't name because its private)
Oh my god let me catch a fucking break I've been coding nonstop for three days I'd appreciate if I get some leeway and rest? Fucking wankers.4
Migration in progress (long one, lasting over a month)
PM: Let's schedule a meeting to discuss migration progress
PM: Let's schedule a meeting to agree on what should we test
PM: Let's schedule a meeting to get specs of the new infra
Seriously, PMs. One 1 hour long meeting costs at least 4 hours of productive time (1 hour for travel, 1 hour for the meeting, 1+ hour for preparing for the meeting, 1+ hour for post-meeting discussions). And more often than not all meetings end with "We will come back to you later in regards to <some question not answered during meeting>" and it always means "we'll continue this chat via emails"
Why can't you first ask "do we need a meeting or can we sort this out via email?" ??? Or are you intentionally wasting everyone's time?4
Only way to stay sane as a developer reading emails:
1.) Open email
2.) Scan quickly for your name on the body of the massage
3.) If your name isn't mentioned, then close with joy.
4.) If your name is mentioned (FML), then read sort of....see what's the deal and if the email body doesn't end in a question mark, then close email and play dumb.
5.) Else, respond to the fucking email.2
oh FFS my university pissed me off so bad right now that I had to wait 20 min to cool down to be able to write a rant about it...
so, one of the university department offer an email address which is the official university approved email for student packs like jetbrain's. I wanted to renew my jetbrains subscription, but for that I have to get a verification email on that address..
But since the only time I use it is this annual renewal I dont know the webmail's url..
So I search for it on the department pages, services and its nowhere to be found. Finaly I found it on a student maintained wiki page.
I try to log in.. no luck. try another password, still not it. Try all of the passwords that I remember using in the previous 3 year and no luck.
well fck it the password change is managed by a website where I can log in with a different method, so I change the password and try to log in again.
No fcking luck! And at this point I bashed my head against the wall because I found out that the password change takes them about 1 or 2 hours... hours! wtf...5

Feature request: rant id search ability in search8
I just found out today , that my pm had mistakenly committed the email id and password of his account(which he probably used for testing) in the public repo in github.
Although he subsequently removed it, I can see it in commit history.
The point is.....
I don't kinda like him...
Any mean ideas....?11
Ugh. I hate gmail threads. Especially when people just hit reply and quote the whole thread in their next email.
Going back and sifting through these threads to find relevant information is always a pain in the ass.
I like the new gmail UI. It's clean and works perfectly especially when you have keyboard shortcuts on.
But these threaded messages. Gah!1
I was happily folowing a tutorial earlier on setting up an email server but the site got taken down for maintenance just as I reached the last step...
IT'S BEEN 6 HOURS NOW AND IT'S STILL NOT BACK UP.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING AND I'M GOING TO BREAK SOMETHING AND BE SAD.9
How to make those marketing staff of x service stop sending you an email when they don't have unsubscribe link:
1. Reply back asking about the free tier/plan
2 days and no word from them after spamming me daily about the service3
I hate leaving work when in the middle of something, I tend to obsess over it all night lamenting that I didn't finish.
Today I was in a similar position but I needed input from our Finance directorate before I could finish. So I sent them an email which would mean that I'd done everything possible and could go home knowing there was nothing more I could do tonight as surely no one would be working this late.
However five minutes later they replied giving me the exact details I needed.
So yet again, I'm going home frustrated.
Why can't they be that useful the rest of the day?!3
To my client who wants a two-column formatted email built with tables in Constant Contact to appear in the same two-column format on mobile devices: You're lying when you say your previous developer achieved a legible, mobile, tiny screen email this way. I know because I can see the previous email formatting. In fact, I cloned that exact email and merely swapped out the content. You really do not understand what you're asking for.4
Spam assassin kills most of the spam I get before I see it. It works pretty well. However, I started getting a fuck ton of spam from some asshole on a Turkey server. You cannot forward spam to the gov anymore so what to do (They use a honeypot. Apparently it doesn't catch everything.)? Well I got the abuse email account address for the server. Then I went into my servers spam filter for the email address I am having issues with. Then I redirect the email to this abuse email address. Then I delete it from the server. This makes it so my email client never sees the message and I automagically notify the abuse account. If the abuse account is owned by the spammer then he is just filling up his own server with shit.
Anybody else have fun or interesting ways with dealing with spam the regular filters don't catch?3
Meme quoting one of our employees who sent in a ticket asking if something was a "phishing technique without the use of email."
I've got an email with this statement:
[...] If you are interested please reply with the following details if possible in an hour [...]
Defuq with those people 😑4
WHAT THE FUCKING SHIT DO YOU WANT FROM ME??! I LITERALLY GET SPAM MAILS EVERY 5 MINUTES (i know I know, some of you get more than that) ABOUT BITCOIN. I NEVER DID ANYTHING FUCKING RELATED TO CRYPTO CURRENCY! HOW DO YOU KNOW MY EMAIL?? LIKE WTF. I'm sitting here doing my stuff and every few minutes my phone starts ringing and I'm like "hey maybe person x answered or something else important happened" but when I actually look at it to see whats up it's just a fucking email about bitcoin being outdated and it tells me to maybe invest into other crypto currencies. After actually reading one of the spam mails because I was interested in what they actually want from me I had to find out that they do not even mention any other currency or website. WTF INTERNET?? WHAT DO YOU WANT?3
dont you love when you go to a site
DIRECTLY - to that site
and the first thing youre greeted with is an ad or email sign up - FOR THAT SITE?
what kind of fuking UI is that? what kind of marketing is that?
i just went to YOUR site. don't throw fuking ads and nonsense at me in some pop-up form where i can't interact with your page without clicking the "X" to close it.5
Today, I got my first recruiter spam (read: unsolicited) email! If they get more common than that, I'll have to build a filter for those.2
lol, I just got an email from HBO Max that said, "this email template is for integration testing only."2
When Amazon asks if my email address is all lower case... The desire to make it an informative moment that email addresses are not case sensitive is outweighed by my desire to resolve my issue as fast as possible.3
Screw all the people who think standard email is "secure". It is not suitible for sending passwords and SSN numbers.
How can something Equifax or Marriott hacks have happened and people are still ok sending out information like this in plain text?!
I know their hacks weren't email released but still.....should be a good time to up some security standards. Right?5
Today when registering myself for a website I was asked to validate my email address. Literally I was sent an email with only "Please verify your email" in the body. So I responded with "ok". Lets see how long it takes for them to realise their mistake.3
A random story that just popped back into my head while reading another rant:
Long ago, we developed our own webmail platform at the request of clients. After it was finished, it was never updated and eventually turned into an outdated insecure steaming pile of crap. Up until ~2015, it looked like the first iteration of AOL Mail from the 1990s (and it functioned as such too.) Years, we decided to sunset the platform, and allotted 6-months or so to transition all the active users off the platform and over to an alternative email provider. We had to call each client multiple times and send multiple emails with a deadline detailing when the service would be shut down, and we'd explain that if they didn't transition over to a new service and transfer all their emails before that date, then the emails would be lost forever. Lo and behold, a handful of clients ignored our repeated contact attempts, and we shut down their email service (as we told them that we would.) Of course, they called screaming and panicking "OUR EMAIL IS DOWN OUR EMAIL IS DOWN WE'RE LOSING MONEY FIX IT NOW!!!!," and we told them "We attempted to contact you multiple times, and you neglected to return our numerous calls or emails. We're happy to help you transition your old email addresses to this new provider, but because you neglected to follow the cushy deadline we provided you, all of your emails are gone."
Of course, they denied having ever received our calls/emails, and we'd have to provide them with our outgoing call recordings to prove that we did in fact contact them multiple times. Then they'd blame the mishap on their secretary, who would blame it on the intern, who would blame it on the IT guy, who would blame it on the janitor, and so on and so forth.
Moral of the story: always keep outgoing call recordings when you're sunsetting a product.1
I was reading this:
> A chatbot pulled me out of a 'really dark place'
Oh that sounds interesting I thought.
Plus I thought, what idiot can be influenced by what an AI says..
Then I thought, oh I wonder if this will be an AI I can legally swear at without getting into trouble..
So off I go to find it..
So, first I land here:
Ok, so I don't have Apple or Google Play to play with, I wonder what GRYT Health is, lets click on it..
Well, that doesn't really tell me a hell of a lot what gryp , oh wait, gryt means..
Now if I really was in a dark place, could I think be bothered to fill out all the various create account details in the first place..
Then it takes me to where I can click on the chatbot.
Only it won't let me chat until email verification has been done..
No problem, I used a real email address, so it should be with me in a few seconds right..
A few seconds pass..
A few minutes pass..
A few hours pass..
Now I'm depressed from bloody waiting !
This is not how to design a system designed to help people who feel sad..22
My email is just as valid if there is a whitespace at the end of it as if there wasn't.. ffs, just add a trim!
So I just got a mail from a bank.
The email address ended with .gmbh
If people want to make phishing emails then please use at least a fucking viable email address6
Migrated to new email clients, half a page long signatures were gone and no notice to put it back.
So I added my own: "Freeeeeeedoooooom, no more signatures".
Promptly got called by PM to: "It puts the signature back in the mail or else it gets the free seating back."1
Gmail: We will be supporting css media queries from now on.
Users: Bitch please, we still use Outlook as our default email app.2
I had to do a double take... Needless to say I can't sign in for shit, fucknows what mental finger dance I did on the shift key when signing up to these guys...
Also: forgotten password is "please type your email, if there's an account associated to this email address we'll fucking email it with password reset instructions"...
Fucking arsehole fucks, I just wanna pay my fucking energy bill.
HEY Y'ALL! I need help.
So...... recently me and a friend are trying to move servers from a paid one to our own, named Vector. All of the web-side is basically done. However, port 25 is blocked by the ISP. After a few days of messing around in various Linux VMs, we gave up.
Point is, does anyone know where we could get a cheap VPS for email hosting?8
Barracuda Email Firewall for Dummies:
1. Email Client with perfect grammar and nice subject line. (Email rejected)
2. Change subject line to include Russian and Chinese characters along with discount advertisements for Xanax and male enhancement pills. (Email sent!)
Trying to get away from Gmail, anyone know any email providers that respects privacy? Would prefer IMAP/POP access and an option (can be paid) to use my own domain.
Currently considering paying for ProtonMail.28
FUCK SPAM !
If you are like me and register to many services online and get spammed with spam (duh) and want to know which services is selling your data , you can register with an email like this :
let's say your email is firstname.lastname@example.org
and want to register to Service you can put email@example.com and mails will still reach firstname.lastname@example.org but appear as To : email@example.com so then you can rant about how Service is selling your data.
credits to reddit.2
Have you ever done tab (thinking that the text will indent) and enter to go to new line in Outlook and sent email by accident ? I have done couple of times now ! Not good .1
May I suggest an email service?
I saw this post recommending the Vivaldi browser (https://devrant.com/rants/1544070/...) and there was a discussion a few days ago about how email providers snoop around and sell data. I can't find it anymore, but noone mentioned protonmail.ch there.
I just wanted to share my so far positive experience with protonmail. It's a fully encrypted email service that was first used internally by some Swiss academics. Now they made a product out of it with paid subscriptions and a basic, free account. They already open-sourced the front-end web client and are planning to do the same for the back-end in the future, which is really cool. Oh and they have really nice email clients for iOS and Android, which have higher ratings than gmail itself in the Play Store. But that might also be because only a special audience uses protonmail and not the regular guys.
So, I suggest that you register an account there even if you don't want to use it right now. The free account comes with 1 email address and storage limitations. But it's usable and ad-free. Since it's still quite the new service, many email addresses are available. Just like gmail in the early days. That's why I'm suggesting you go and register even if you don't need it now.
Oh and last but not least: I'm not affiliated in any way with protonmail, except for having a paid subscription. But I believe things making the internet a better place should be promoted and devrant is definitely the community with people thinking the same way I do. Have a nice day.10
So for a new client, they have their domain on a registrar that has the most ugliest and confusing UI ever.
So I decided to transfer the domain to somewhere better.
Guess what, it takes 5 days for them to release the domain. The site would be down and I won't be able to proceed with my work until transfer is complete.
In hopes to speed up the process, I tried to create a ticket. There is no ticket system and their only available contact email listed is firstname.lastname@example.org
I mailed them yesterday evening hoping for a reply.
Few hrs ago, I received a bunch of automated email on some ticket I never created.
The biggest WTF is that the To: on that email is some other customer's gmail address and I am CC'd along with a bunch of other customers gmail and hotmail addresses.
Seriously, WTF is this?! I'm glad I took the decision to move from them20
When someone over complicates everything. Turns what could be a three paragraph billeted system launch email into four dense pages that no one will finish reading. First page tooting their horn for a job not well done. Usually 'less is more'2
Just remembered that I forgot to add my Google apps work email to my phone after I reset it a week ago. 😓
Just searched for *.io websites... thought there'll be somehow interesting things - eeeh... nothing incredible 😴
More or less just abusive usage... 🤓
But one site - beefree.io - is about an email editor for responsive mails. And I don't know why (someone really needs that - over 1.000.000 users as stated on their site) ... but there is nothing that doesn't exist.
implementing an email verification .. it shows differently in different email .. If I fix something for yahoomail .. it shows broken in gmail .. just fedup of this .. my whole day has been wasted for this shit today .. 😑😑7
i needed to get a dvi/hdmi converter and amazon fuked me, again (big surprise) so i went to monoprice
specifically asked "subscribe to promotional emails?" NO - NO i don't fricking want that
email: "order recv"
"more order bs"
"youve been subscribed!"
wtf? NO! i said fucking NO! don't just ignore it you bastards
(i guess this is better than the alternative of usualaly getting suked into it and not knowing til you get emails down the road, but fuk off, miss me with that shit)2
god damn it No-IP, I've opted out of these email lists 10 fucking times already. this shit is so annoying.2
Has to be Thunderbird for me... It just works so darn well and has everything I need in an Email client.2
Screw email clients and their html rendering engine, especially you, outlook, fucking disrespecting most of my css stylings3
Next motherfucker named Chad that sends me an email with a RE: subject line for recruiting is going to be thrown from a helicopter screaming.
If your name is Chad that's okay, we know you didn't choose your name, but if you're a recruiter named Chad and you are trying to slide into my emails, get fucked.2
Another unrelenting "Please remove me from this email thread" reply-all's trickling in every 5 mins today due to someone accidentally cc'ing to broad distribution group at company.
WTF is email functionality a lost art or people just trolling?2
So an employee sent a nice email saying she is leaving the company and this is her last day.
Then for the next three days I get reply-to-all emails saying “nice to work with you”, etc.
A. Why the fuck reply to all, I don’t care
B. Her last day was two days ago, wtf? Why are you replying?
C. Person leaving send that shit bcc. Though perhaps this was their final, `fuck you` to us all!
Just a whole pile of idiots.1
So I still have my very first email account, a hotmail account as a secondary, kinda spam account.
i signed up around 2000 i guess.
someone tried to get in, i got loads of mails of failed login attempts so i wanned to go and change my pw. But because of that bastard i cant login with just pw anymore, i need my phone. THAT ACCOUNT IS 20 FUCKING YEARS OLD. I never even provided a phone.
spent the last 20 minutes providing personal details to microsoft which are probably not the ones i used for signing up anyway.
you know how careful we were whem signing up for something online back them? I probably signed up as Thomas anderson from zion...
anyway, done now and bow it will take 24h for them to review it..
all of this only to reset my forgotten pw for my epic games account for with i signed up with that mail..,
holy guacamole.. I should start to trust password managers...1
client asks me to setup a form that emails on their site... no problem. didnt know what they actually wanted was for me to set up an email server.... im a terrible terrible sys-admin. no one should hire me for that kind of work.5
So, I just recieved a welcome email from bit.ac, with my email and a random generated password. The fact is that, I have never registered on this website. Did someone just registered with my email? Or maybe it's a new marketing strategy, to collect emails from another databases and send them emails, "reminding" them their email and a random generated password, so that who recieve the email, to be confused and to access the website to see what is all about, resulting that the company gets more traffic & eventually new possible customers?6
When I was a simple junior developer back in 2013, I built a simple form with Drupal (CMS) for a client through which people could order telephone subscriptions. It is a simple form, still used, that sends out an email to their customer services to process the order. Don't know how many orders they get a day, maybe a few, but I used HTML to create a beautiful email template which is easy to read and process. I recently had to look at one of those emails again and felt nice for what I had achieved so many years ago.
Now I work at a company with hundreds of people, on a system where we process millions of documents.a month, and send out tens of thousands of automated emails with documents attached via email each month. And all of those emails are pure plain text. No HTML. Ugh...
Apparently there is no time to use modern approaches when you have customer's needs to satisfy each minute.3
Which privacy-respecting email provider can you recommend? It seems that the following three are the best options:
- tutanota (0€ / 12€)
- posteo (12€)
- mailbox.org (12€)
Do you have any experience with them?
What do you think about a hosted email service with your own domain?20
I have a huge axe to grind about companies sending me emails I have not consented to. Sometimes they have a checkbox for it, which I always, ALWAYS make sure I do not check. Sometimes they just add you automatically as soon as you enter your email adress.
Sometimes the 'Unsubscribe' link leads to a dead page, or just doesn't work.
And sometimes... They send you a bunch of emails to let you know they will absolutely stop sending you emails 😑
Why. Why? WHY? WHYYYYY?!?!?
Why are so many, even otherwise respected and very customer satisfaction minded companies so disgustingly cavalier or downright dirty about emails?
Even after this whole GDPR thing!1
My coworker cannot log in to his company email account. So I contacted the guys in charge of this by email, asking if they could help and asked whats the process now or how does this work. I assume if his email is not working, they cannot send him a password reset link.
their answer: yeah, sure, we reseted the password of the mentioned user, here is his new password5
Fuck Outlook, fuck creating email templates from scratch, fuck complex email designs...but most of all fuck outlook and people who complain thier email campaign/newsletter doesn't look right in Outlook2
A couple of weeks ago my work email got hacked, I found out because he/she was sending phishing mails to yahoo emailaddresses, but they couldn't be delivered because they were marked as phishing.
I've immediately changed my password and turned on two-factor authentication, shared my story with my boss and now we use two-factor authentication for every service where it is possible.2
I wrote a longer rant but fell asleep while trying to write it. I just wanted to say FUCK EMAIL. Fuck it all. It is cancer. Setting up a mail service for sending "forgot your password?" and registration confirmation type messages is one of the shittiest computer related tasks I've done in my entire life.8
Yeah, I'll probably have a google, Facebook or wikipedia account instead of a Gmail one. What's wrong with you Samsung?1
I'm amazed by the fact that someone out there could be making money with my name and email address, when that is just public information I give out myself.2
Can we PLEASE once and for all redesign email and texting to be whitelist only?
Seriously, blacklisting doesn't work. We still have assholes that just because they know a line of text or a phone number can harass you forever. It IS harassment and needs to stop. We can always have the option of throw away blacklist addresses, but lets make primary email and phone numbers whitelist only as a standard feature. The business of SPAM would be dead overnight.7
The latest scam someone that works with me fell for - I hope I just prevented the rest of my company from falling for (will know tomorrow). Firstly we use fucking imap, secondly how the fuck did you email me to tell me I can't receive emails???
Still pretty well executed.4
I need your thoughts on a privacy related matter. I find this fact being very provocative.
So, at work we use Gmail:
Person AB has email AB@company.tld
Person ABC has email ABC@company.tld
How is it that when you send an e-mail to AB, that ABC sends back a god damn Out-of-office, without ABC being in either To, CC or BCC?
I reckon that the mailbox AB is owned by said company, and ABC is the owner of all those accounts. But shouldn't the contents of such mailbox still be private in some regard? (At least until AB isn't in the company anymore?)
It's funny, as a customer said she got an out of office from ABC, while solely sending one to AB.. I noticed this a few weeks back, and I'm rather infuriated by the fact that there's a possibility that every e-mail AB reveives, also ends up in in ABC's box.
So work this morning has been fun, we got an email from some about a change in their company and they CCd about 360 people in so you could see the emails (GDPR and all that) and then a help desk on one of the recipients picked it up, sent out an auto response to everyone, then another auto response from someone else went out and you can see where it went from there... About 100 emails later they sent out an email asking people to not reply to the previous email and are working with the companies to get the auto responders turned off
Life lesson today: check your emails before sending them!1
For the brave souls among you... Email On Acid have made an excellent PDF guide on CSS animation in email.
No, that's not a typo! 😮💥
Why do these e-marketing companies always have some kind of manager/consultant/strategist/marketeer/whatever to handle emails between me and their devs. Instead of emailing with another technical person and quickly fixing the problem I end up sending one billion emails to someone who has no clue on what needs to be done to fix te problem. From now on my emails contains a part called "to your developer:" explaining the technical part of the email.
And no - I don't want to plan a conference call... just let me code dammit!
Received this scam email, but honestly how long that email! those people are crazy mother fuckers.1
Microsoft FUCK YOU!
How the fuck did you lock my account and make it impossible for me to recover it.
I have send you all the information that you have asked me and you still tell me that you can't prove my ownership? Bullshit!
Aggggghhh, this is making so angry since all my accounts are setup to log in with that email account.
This is why I hate technical support people who only reply what is written in a fucking script.
Sorry for swearing that much. Not really. Fuck you Microsoft!1
I've been working on migrating my personal e-mail server for nearly a month.
Old (Linode): opensuse 13.1 (no longer gets update) running postfix + amavis-new(with spamassassin and clamav) + dkimproxy + dovecot
New (Vultr): OpenBSD 6.3 running opensmtpd + spampd(spamassassin proxy) + clamav + dkimproxy + dovecot
I'm surprised I only have 5GB of e-mail, considering I migrated all my gmail there a while back; 5GB for ever e-mail since 2004.
I finally got all the DNS switched over and tested all the end points this morning. The whole thing is done in Ansible so hopefully switching to another provider will be a lot faster:
Problem with a product, I'll refer to the manual, its someplace..
FX [ Time Passes . . . ]
I can't seem to find it, though I saw it recently !
No problem, I'll contact the company in question and ask them to email me a copy.. (I did a web search, its nowhere to be found..)
Lets see, all the ways I can contact them, but email..
They sell computer stuff, you'd think email would be like, you know, there..1
My colleague actually uses multiple email addresses that has different purposes. E.g. one email for travels, one email for work, one email for family, one email for other projects, one email for payments, etc.
I've yet to show him how emails nowadays can help label and sort them by nature.8
One of ur staff writes email body as subject and the body is always empty or her signature. Give a reason why I shouldn't kill myself.1
Most illogical thing I had to do today.
Today i received an email from bank to fill an attached form to receive payment from a foreign country.
Face palm no 1: The form they sent was in doc format. The layout of the form was all fucked up.
So I downloaded a proper PDF version of the same form from the bank's website.
I filled the form on my computer and signed it using my pen tablet and emailed it back.
Few hours later somone from bank calls me.
Facepalm no 2: He sounded frantic. He asked me to physically mail the "orginal" of the form!
He was thinking I took the printout of the form, filled it by hand and send the scanned copy.
I told him I filled everything digitally so there is no "original" form in physical sense.
Also since I emailed him the form, it doesn't make any sense at all, for me to take the printout of the digital version and mail it to him when he could just open his email and take a print out.
He didn't seem to grasp that idea at all.
Finally, I agreed to go to a branch nearby me and got him speak to an employee there over my phone and they said they will courier the printout to him.
I don't know if the people there are dumb or I am too smart.4
Guys, I'm changing my email provider and am looking for a (paid) one that focuses on security and data privacy. Any suggestions/experiences?5
I just used a contact form of a local webshop. I couldnt enter my email address because it contains a +.
I contacted them to tell them about this issue and the response was it is because of security reasons. Since when is following specs a security breach? Unless their system is one leak I don't see how its possible.
Am I wrong or did they either lie or have a leak in their system?4
Again got an email(pseudospam) from a service I subscribed to (yes I did). It says the email is from CEO and it's supposed to be X-mas wish + invitation to their youtube channel. It was, kind of...
But the words they (or he, but I hope not) used in the email! It was so obviously blank, such uninteresting-president-speech. It was even targeted as a spam by gmail. In a foreign lang.
I mean... if you want to reach to your customers, sit on your ass and imagine _yourself_ reading an email that's long, its point was lost somewhere in the fourth sentence and magically appeared at the end + even default mail filter targets it as a spam.
That's what you get from a service. Motivational crap and blank words. Many thanks, I haven't heard a lot of those lately, eh?!
Since finally fixing my email server I keep periodically getting emails with random subjects like "asdfasdfasdf" from all my test messages...
My job hasn't started yet but I'm already learning to send emails to 5 people right at the same time while buried deep in paperwork.2
Hired me as senior front end developer. Assign me task like developing email templates.. so I bought few template with my own salaries!!2
Ok... I thought I've seen every kind of shitty way to unsubscribe from a newsletter, but this one beats them all... I have to write a fucking email with a request not to receive emails...
There is a fucking useless law for cookies, why there isn't a law that force companies to put a one-click link to unsubscribe on emails?1
Before I came along, my company was processing orders of type X by hand, taking many hours and being at greater risk of human error. So as a temporary solution, I crafted a console app to do the processing. Then, this app is needed to be accessed remotely. Because adding a newer .NET to a handful of servers was just too much to handle emotionally for management, the console app was revamped to a web app. During this revamping process, I was having my client send me an email so that I could initiate the processing myself until a friendlier UI was available. Well, I finished last night. I sent them an email explaining that it was live, gave them the address, and gave myself a high-five. A moment ago, I get an email from the client insisting that I process those orders quickly so that I don't cause a delay in shipping. FML!! Did they even READ the email I sent them?? They've been suckling at the teat for too long. Adding insult to injury, since the revamping project began, the client would CC my boss every time they emailed to have an order processed as if to hint at their frustration that the project wasn't done yet. Grr....
Dev1: "what was that requirement? I mean, do you remember that little yet hugely important detail ...?"
Dev2: "hmmm sort of ... Maybe it's in one of the emails, possibly 2 months ago. Let's try to find it"
Dev3: "wait, probably Dev1 was not included for some reason in that thread of emails"
Dev2: "no wait, I mean the other, the one we used to talk about those other specifications from previous meeting..."
[and the story goes on]
Now you may think "ok, this event happened once and was a misstep. Shit happens"
Actually, this is the bread and butter in this company I collaborate with. All their requirements are spread across thousands of emails, usually mixed together and possibly forked into different threads. Often people are cut out from conversation because someone forgets to "reply all", other times they're lost in time.
When I asked them "why don't you use some other tool, maybe something more organized and easily searchable, something structured..."
They replied "no no, we prefer to use email for historical reasons"
My brain just melted like chocolate under the sun2
I've been considering mailbox.org for my email and cloud office requirements, but so few reviews exist online so I hope some of you have experience you can share.
I currently use Gmail and Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Slides. Ideally I need to replace all of these. Here are my requirements:
- A service I pay for with money instead of personal data
- Personal email service
- An online office suite for documents, spreadsheets, file storage
- able to send encrypted email (almost no one I know can use encryption)
- open source software stack
- Android apps
- Cloud presentation software (Slides replacement)
I don't have the time or resources to set up my own email server or cloud.
I'd like to hear from anyone with mailbox.org experience, or other services that meet the above requirements.8
So i want to send DevRant an Email to for free stickers, i Live outside US and am confused by what they mean by
" make sure to format your address so it can be copied directly onto a label."
Just got another email from servíce@intl-paypal.com <zlvx... (noticed that “í”? Me neither) that says “[N3YywM] <https://amazon.co.uk... ” and it goes on and on...
wow, service? Seems important! I guess I should open it and click on every link!!! 🙄7
All results for GDPR on my "spam mail adress" (NO results for DSGVO!) ... seems like GDPR doesnt apply for spam :D but this email is also registered to sooo many services and websites... i think the search is broken :|5
I use mail.com and the amount of websites and companies that ask me if I'm sure I don't mean Gmail is so annoying. One finance company even changed it to Gmail without asking me! Time to change email addresses?2
I fucking despise making whatever website that needs to send emails.
The final user won't probably receive the emails bc of spam, the customer wont like this and blame me or the company I work for, but never actually PAY for an email service to send emails.
And almost nothing works with the old-ass domains here in Italy, but people will still use those old-as-fuck emails just because they can't make a new one on gmail or outlook.1
Need advice guys :)
just bought myself a nice domainname, and now I'm looking for a good email provider I can use for my domain.
Any of you can point me in the right direction? It can come at a price, as long as it is not too much, but I'm well aware quality service does not come free...6
Fucking fuck I had this one dashboard website I used some time and then stopped, they were sending me lots of trash via email since, but now when I actually need it again, I can't find a single trace, does somebody know some website where you can simply send a curl to with some number and it will save and graph it in a dashboard?6
Every email that starts with *|MC_PREVIEW_TEXT|*
People stealing from Mailchimp templating engines1
"Make your working process clear and thereby attractive to your client"
Yeah , this email sure does ! Way to sell a product 😁
I have a lot of meetings and that makes it difficult to answer my workphone. One guy has been calling me every single time I have a meeting and he never answers when I try to call back.
He can contact me through email, ticketing system or Teams, but nope, he keeps calling my phone.
I send him a message through Teams asking if he can tell what the issue is.
He tells me he will just call me via phone.. Why?! Even calling through Teams would be better! Just tell me what the issue is!
Now I have enough of this shit I fucking go grab a chainsaw and cut you into the tiniest pieces possible then pour gasoline on your fucking servers and lit them on fire. How the fuck should I remain calm if there is at least two fucking email I can't send because your fucking piece of shit server gets blacklisted EVERY FUCKING WEEK.
Oh how cool you made ipv6 available to shared plans so outlook servers won't blacklist mails. But guess what, it STILL DOESN'T WORK!!! Not to mention that you automatically modify my existing SPF record and set the shared storage ipv6 address to the main domain which should be pointing to the vps (still working though but have no idea why). I am so fucking fed up with people for today, and it's only just morning.
(not really a *dev* rant)
I hate it when I get an email with the following sentence:
"We appreciate your patience and kind understanding regarding this matter."
When did I freaking imply that I'm patient?! You just decided that I am and sent this... 😡
Pisses me off when coding an email using tables and not allowed to use most of the awesome styles and elements. :'(4
I learned something new while trouble shooting an email template today.
There was a weird margin at the end of my template and I have no idea where it came from. I inspected elements and found a 1x1 image.
Turns out it's a tracking link being loaded as an image.
Now I get why they call it a tracking pixel. It's literally 1 pixel.9
My application (web app & mobile app) needs to interface with a users email to read mails for further processing
Is there are library (py, js) or service that I can leverage that abstracts the access to the mail servers (IMAP, POP3, Exchange, Google API, Outlook API etc.) and provides a single interface (possibly REST API) to access the mails?
It feels redundant to implement each of the above methods of email access, as I see it being a feature in many applications out there, but I am not able to find a library or service that provides it.
Any advice or suggestions with implementing each of them is also welcomed
Thanks in advance2
Anybody that uses GPG for email encryption might want to read this:
This sheds a bit more light on what's actually going on.
It's not really GPG that's affected but the E-mail client plugins.3
rant == true
<rant>I want my stickers, but I'd rather rant about using email than actually use email. Cut me some slack, I'm a dev and I hate email. Email is horrible, it's barely changed since the 90's. I hate Slack and Skype as well, Discord is so much easier for my needs. I even set up some bots to tell me build statuses in their own channel.</rant>9
Hey guys, I have almost developed the backend of an app like reddit. My question is about authentication. How should I authenticate my user. Is phone number necessary to add phone otp?Because I don't want to get any legal trouble if someone posts objectionable content on the platform. Most of the apps today need phone number, I dont know why except reducing spam accounts.
Or shall I verify email by otp. But its hard to track disposable emails. I cant go for only gmail too as its banned in china. Email domains of china are weird.
Can I get into legal trouble for objectionable content posted by any evil user?
I dont want to go for auth.13
I thought the web standards finally are a bit okay to work with. Just learnt that writing responsive HTML email templates really really feels like writing code which we did in the previous century. Tables. Tables everywhere. It's worse than table inception5
Services with newsletters, you need this "unsubscribe" button to be clearly set, since "report spam" is 2 seconds faster to find. And the last email you send confirming that i unsubscribed may assure that i will report you as spam.
Wtf. Why is using mail templates in nodejs so complicated in comparison to eg Laravel?!?! I have to install 3 packages with 20+ dependencies and setting it up is a hell -.- I'm losing my love for node since I got to know laravel3
Email all staff. Important! We are having problems with the firewall.
Sure as shit we still get the help desk emails that start "is there a problems with email"
What email service are you using for your domains? I used zoho for a while, but those assholes keep randomly locking my accounts (an email always activates those again, but fuck knows how much emails I missed during not noticing it) - thought about going with the general hype of Tutanota around here, but it seems like it doesn't really support multiple custom domain mailboxes? Also tried just now msgsafe.io - it seems fine, but the way it handles multiple domain mailboxes is just disgusting, because it just throws them all together and you have to "filter" to get mails from only one domain.26
“Your email address has been blacklisted and you can no longer send emails to this domain. If you feel that this has been done by mistake, I can assure you that I was not.”
Bullshittery continues. This time around, absolutely innocent, clamav is root cause. For once not incompetent idiot, but piece of software. IDK if that makes me happy or upset.
So our email server that I configured and took care of died. RIP. Damn, better put it back together ASAP. So Im under pressure, while still pissed at everything that I ranted before (actually my last 2 rants were throttled, and in total all of that happened past 60 minutes but devrant rate limiting) I start auditing logs. You imagine, we kindda need it NOW, and it's second time last month clamav is pulling stunts and MTA refuses (properly) to work without antivirus. So pressurized, I look at logs, what the fuck went wrong.
clamav deamonize() failed - cannot allocate memory
Hmm. Intresting, but sounds like bullshit. I know server is quite micro becouse they wanted to save on costs as much as possible, but it has well over half a gig free ram just before it crashes (like 800MB) with that message. Is it allocating almost gig in one call or what? Looked carefully at trusty htop while it was starting, and indeed, suddenly it just dies with quite a bit of ram free, almost as much as it weights already. And I remember booting it up when I was configuring it, and it had fair bit of headroom.
Google, help me friend... Okay, great, so apparently at some point clamav loads virus DB into ram (dafuq?), and than forks, which causes spike of 2x the ram usage, and than immidietely frees it up.
Great, that sounds like great design decision... At least I know, I can just slap on SWAP file, restart it and call it a day.
It worked, swap file is almost empty (used 15megs, 900 megs free ram, whatever).
That leaves me wandering, who figured out to load DB to ram? That means pretty much that clamav will eat a little bit more ram each vir db update, and that milisecond "double ram" spike will confuse innocent people who just wanted to run clamav and it worked last *long period of time* and now crashes without warning without any changes to configuration.
Maybe there is logical explanation, I want to know it.8
I need a new professional email address and i was thinking of going with an encrypted email service, do you guys have any recommendations on what to use?
My only requirement is that it needs to work with desktop email clients like Thunderbird, i am too lazy to use a web browser :)11
Does anyone know of any software I can use to monitor a RAID 1 array health. Ideally ild like an email if one of the drives has failed/removed.
On a side note thank god for RAID 😅3
Does anybody know a good (almost as good as Gmail) open-source browser-based email client? Thank you!6
What do you think is the best software for an e-mail server running on Ubuntu 16.04 (Gotta use Ubuntu for a few different reasons). Haven’t been able to find a good solution for me to use. Needs to be able to run a few different email domains, roughly 5 domains.
Hell, any suggestions on a VPS host? I’ve been thinking of OVH. (Best bang for the buck so far that I’ve found)10
Can some1 please do something about email
A "modify/edit" functionality is helpful
Why doesn't it have it already15
Does anyone from here working by GMX? I am specially looking for a sysadmin.
The story is the following. We can't send emails to GMX addresses in general. I've contacted my provider, and they said, that they've contacted GMX several times but no solution has been made so far. This was almost a month ago and the problem still persists.
If anyone from here willing to help me clear this mess, or just give some explanation, I would be grateful. We are loosing reputation as a company having to answer from a different email address.
If it is a sensitive info please give me a channel where we can speak about the details.
Please note I am not a sysadmin by the hosting company, i am simply a customer of theirs.14
In my company, we have been have been using skype, hipchat, slack and now Teams.
Yet somehow, email always survives.
I get it as a communication channel for external clients as everybody has an email.
Yet when you as a company are using a team messenger, well then use it as your primary communication tool NO EXCEPTIONS or don't use them at all.4
Has anyone ever gotten used to using Microsoft email inbox (Outlook or Live or Microsoft online or whatever the heck it's called)? I feel completely lost whenever I check my university emails. Gmail is so nice and clean.
Also, to them privacy freaks, what do you guys use if not for gmail?5
(Asking for someone I’ve been mentoring.)
TLDR; Looking for recommended resources on how to code email templates from scratch.
I’ve been helping a friend transition their career from sales to web development and recently he applied for a position as a jr developer for an ecommerce startup. They liked him and they’re willing to create a new position for him where he’ll work with both the marketing department and the development team. He’ll start with building email templates for the marketing department and eventually move on to development as he grows his skills. I’d really appreciate it if I could get some recommended resources for learning how to code email templates from scratch and from PSDs. This would be a life changer for him and I’m trying to do as much as I can to help me out.4
today i have received email from gov. for some otp. i found some interesting thing in email. i have marked in picture. typo in production and still didn't change.
Hey, anyone have experience with email with encryption?
I need to setup TLS for emails for all devices on premises. The printer and other devices does not support TLS.
I'm thinking i could use local exchange server that forwards to our office 365, as we use outlook for the domain. But i would rather use some linux solution.
We have multiple ip's we might send from.1
General inquiry and also I guess spreading awareness (for lack of a better category as far as I can tell) considering nothing turned up when I searched for it on here: what do you guys think about Sourcehut?
For those who don't know about it, I find it a great alternative to GitHub and GitLab considering it uses more federated collaboration methods (mostly email) mostly already built into Git which in fact predate pull requests and the like (all while providing a more modern web interface to those traditional utilities than what currently exists) on top of many other cool features (for those who prefer Mercurial, it offers first-class repo support too, and generally it also has issue tracking, pastebins, CI services, and an equivalent to GitHub Pages over HTTP as well as Gemini in fact, to name a few; it's all on its website: https://sourcehut.org/). It's very new (2019) and currently in public alpha (seems fairly stable though actually), but it will be paid in the future on the main instance (seems easy enough to self-host though, specially compared to GitLab, so I'll probably do that soon); I usually prefer not to have to pay but considering it seems to be done mostly by 1 guy (who also maintains the infrastructure) and considering how much I like it and everything it stands for, here I actually might 😅2
created about 1000 test users for my system all with fake email addresses. forgot about the welcome email that goes out. SendGrid was not happy with all the bounces and trashed the reputation score. whoops
I thought having to test my website on different browsers was bad enough, its a few hours to close of work and I still cant figure out sending a html email because of cross-client compatibility. Waiting on the day when this will be history.
Hate building custom email templates to only find out that a client doesn't even know how to use it their own email platform. Platforms include, ConstantContact, Exact target, Mail chomp, etc.
Lost my password to my hostmaze login because LastPass didn't save it properly. Now I can't reset it because their mailing server is not working (found out after emails failed to send to their support email with an error on their end). Their chat is also non-responsive.... What do I do now...
Maybe a wierd question, I'm transitioning from a VPS with panel to a dedicated server without (because I want to learn how to do it my self) but I'm having problems with the email server. It is a Ubuntu based server and I was wondering if someone can teach me how to set it up.6
Settle an argument for our development team. We have infrastructure to report crashes when they occur, via a simple online form submission. The form provides basic fields for a description and an email address, and also posts some basic telemetry (rebuilding what it can of call stack, variables etc). Currently the email address is optional (you can submit the form and leave it blank). The form is not mandatory (the user can hit 'send' to submit online, 'save' to save the crash report to transfer in other ways, or 'cancel' to just ignore it entirely (irregardless of their choice, depending on where the crash has occurred, they may be able to continue using the application or it might exit).
A suggestion has been put forward to make the email address mandatory. Surprisingly, this has kicked off an incredibly polarising debate, so I thought I would put it to devRant to see what is the consensus here.
I'm trying not to bias the discussion by stating with the considerations at play, but would encourage you to think about them before chiming in!4
Why is everybody writing Jira comments as emails?!! If they write 5 comments two the same issue they use the same format.
Now I have to respond the same way....
Do you guys have a good encrypted Email Server ? currently checking out Lavabit. maybe you guys have any other options17
Did any of you have found a viable and reliable email hoster for custom domains that doesn't force you to transfer your domain(just setup the DNS records properly)?
And that can make programmatically possible write emails?13
Every time that I try to accept a google calendar invitation sent to my email address at gmx, google shows my this unhelpful error message.
And when I try to add my gmx email address as alternative address to my google account, it fails without an error message, nothing but a red border around the email input field (any other address works).
I have long given up to solve this, last time I tried I had a google support thread running for weeks before finding out that the other person was not even a google employee but just another user trying to help me.
But the robot is still cute.
Well done, google XD
You have email address and password for accesing it. Have you ever used same email and password for signing up for some account on web, and asked yourself can someone from that web use your password to access your email?
The hard programmer life : you write a super random email to do a urgent test and it is fucking taken.
Someone posted a link to a 30-day-security-challenge here on devRant some time ago and I just thought well, why not try to migrate away from the big companies - I've been using OneDrive as my only cloudstorage since the time when it was called SkyDrive and I've been hosting my Emails at outlook (via Live Custom Domains, a service that does not even exist anymore) for about 8 years now. Since I've always been lazy and since exchange activesync is a great feature if you have multiple calendars and want to sync them and your contacts to several devices I never tried to switch but now I am half done with migrating my data to my own nextcloud installation and my emails to my own mail server - since I don't want to loose the exchange functionality I am also setting up Z-Push and oh boy, this thing is bitching around but my webmail is already nicely integrated into nextcloud, IMAP / SMTP is up, configured and secured (still have to mess around with spamassassin as this email adress is floating around the web for about 10 years now). The only things to do is to get Z-Push work with STARTTLS and the card/caldav backend running and then the basic setup should be done.
I am just wondering if someone could hand me over a guide on how to sign / encrypt emails (GPG?)
