we got a new coworker who had no experience in coding. I was planning to leave the company (mainly because my other coworokers were jerks) but no one wanted to teach him so i started teaching the new guy. This was 4 months ago and He is the reason im still here and i enjoy my work again! :)15

This guy is the best coworker ever. He analyzes my algorithms, advises me when to eat or take breaks, and reminds me not to take life too seriously. He's pretty helpful with debugging too.

I've been fortunate enough to work with a lot of awesome people early into my career.
At the company I worked where I met @trogus, I became friends with a few people, including Tim, that I think were my favorites. It was a really fun bunch and though it may sound immature, but a lot of the times it felt like we were kids so for me coming out of college it was awesome.
There's so many stories from working with that bunch that come to mind for me. One of my best friends there was this guy "Dirty Devin." He started around the same time I did. When I first met him he seemed really boring and professional. After getting to know him, and after he'd been at the company for a few weeks, his actual personality started to show and he was like a child (in the best way possible) and was absolutely hilarious/made the work place a blast.
Our office had a ping pong table and neither Dirty Devin or I had ever really played. We started playing against each other and we both very quickly got really good.
I also met a guy named Botond (he's the one in the photo). He was very similar to Dirty Devin. Lots of crazy stories but the photo is actually a really funny one - we both got to work a few minutes early one day. And we couldn't get into the office. We kept trying to enter the door code and it wouldn't work. We kept joking that we must both be fired. Turned out that they had fired someone the night before and didn't bother to send out the new door code :/
And of course, Tim. I think we clicked pretty early on and had the same friend group at the company.

Not truly a coworker, but a train conductor on my commute sees me coding all the time and chats with me about how he is teaching himself (I am also self taught). He makes me feel like a rock star for doing what I do 😎4

I started my first job with no degree and no real experience. It was a sink or swim kind of place. Six months in, I was working on a bunch of projects independently, then they hired a new junior developer, and told me it was my job to mentor him.
a lot of the time I knew what to do to get the job done, but I didn't know why. He always asked why... Learning something is one thing, teaching it is another. This guy was the best co-worker I've ever had because he pushed me to be much better while we learned together.2 -

My team are the best coworkers I've had. Admittedly I'm only 4 years into my professional career, but my team makes me stay with my current job.
My team do a lot of silly things to keep everyone in a good mood, and stress free. This week we've had a game where in a quote moment you just yell the name of a primitive type (like BOOL). Why? No idea, but we're enjoying it.
We also have a chicken hat that we named Barry. He sits with people on their desk to do code reviews and such. When people leave they get their own Barry to take with them to their new job. We introduce people to him as a regular member of the team.
Sometimes work sucks. Being a developer can be hard, and can be stressful. Working with this team makes it worth it. -
By far the best co-worker. She's doesn't bitch and complain or make excuses.
And let's be honest, she's cute as fuck.

Best co-worker? One of my team who was cut from the same cloth. I could ask him to do anything without giving a how-to. I could then carry on with my work knowing he would deliver on time and at least as good as I would have done. We've been mates ever since.1

Best coworker I've had and still have is a girl I've met in training. Whenever our shifts overlap I work best. Last time this happened we watched Pink Floyd's The Wall while solving tickets and taking chats. Other times we rock out to music and every time we laugh at some customer's way of describing their issue. She also has a great lifestyle, she's an actress and she's got loads of fun stories to tell.

I worked at a company that was recently acquired by another one based in Poland. On my last day at work, the CEO flew out from Kraków to meet all of us personally and treated us to dinner. Soon after, we were all inducted into their hiring process, and now I'm currently waiting for my first project at the new company 😊 brilliant guy, can't wait to know him and the team better!3

I just started training 3 weeks ago,
I have to accomplish some knowledge during the training period or the company won't let me stay, when I told the coworker that is sitting beside me, he told me don't worry, as long as you want this job, we will help you learn everything in order to get what you want. -
the admin that was pleasantly surprised a developer was interested in admin work. he taught me alot about linux, networking and vsphere because of him i get to do quite alot of admin type work in my new job, i love it!1

i have been fortunate enough to always work with awesome people.
both jobs I have had after college had almost no supervision, and I could come and go as I pleased.
I am a professional, and I loved being treated as one. I don't take advantage of my work, and they don't take advantage of me.2 -

Me: It must be because of <faulty implementation>.
Best co-worker: Yeah, don't worry I'll correct it.

My current co-worker takes this prize. He's quiet, good at what he does and only communicated with me when absolutely necessary or when we are both obviously on some down time. Cheers to you, mate!1

My best co-worker and teamplayer in games. Unlike like his stupid wireless brother, this buddy is cheap, super-efficient and literally a Genius with capital G.

Best co-worker i have had was a 25 old guy with narcolepsy. He fall asleep every hour for about 10 minutes.

Best co-worker is my elder brother, he is electronics & communication engineer. Working on robotics project is too much fun. He handle the haredware i.e electronic circuits design in PCB where as programming work is left for me.1

My previous boss. He is a very cool guy. He treat us lunch and dinner sometimes. We always have a conversation topic like existentialism and being in a subconscious state of mind, because most people I met is just very basic. He also owns an office where we are all working in. we watch porn together at night, gossip about hot girls nearby the office area and curse a lot. I love laid back person like him. Also he's humble as fuck.5

I've got a mate at my current work. Most of what we do is insult each other, but there's a real respect there. We were both in similar positions in the company, where we were overworked, underpaid, undervalued and pretty unhappy. He was so helpful when it came to traversing the politics of the company, and how to work out what to do. Plus we get really drunk together all the time. I'm leaving my present company in a few weeks and I'll probably miss having him around the most.

I used to strive 7years back to become the company project manager. they agency was helping me to get there, and when they fired the old PM I thought "this is it!!!"
instead they hired another guy, which got me frustrated.
all that being said, I give that guy full credit for everything I know today. -
My best coworker was my mentor from another place, always dreamed of being as skilled as he is, until we were finally working together, we became buddies.

The best coworker I've had always wanted to fix everything! And most times he did. But sometimes his fixes created more bugs. Needless to say his name is Paul Ness so it made it even better hearing people say "PNesswhat did you do now!?" , that never got old. 😂

The ones I have now! I have a team of great people I'm working with. We get good work done and have alot of laughs. And since we work for a huge fortune 500 company, we have plenty of people in the enterprise to complain to each other about!

Thankfully I've been lucky enough to work with many brilliant people. The best being the ones who are enthusiastic about sharing tips, tricks and helpful advice to new people. Little pieces of advice from old colleagues have followed me throughout my career, for sure.
By contrast, people who sit in a dark corner, bemoaning everything and being completely unwilling to help can have enough negative impact to cause talented people to leave. -
When shadowing "experienced devs" as a "new dev" remember that if you fix their problems they will tell everyone they did it. At least that is my experience.2

I've had my share of both good and bad coworkers.
My best memories are definitely from the late 90's, early 2k's. The team I was a part of back then really had the best attitude. I particularly remember one of them, who ended up being a PM. He was always joking around, nothing was ever too serious to make fun of. He was an old school punk, and it did show. Although he was always professional in meetings with customers and when it mattered. If I'm not totally mistaken, he started a punk band in his fifties, where noone knew how to play or sing. Great guy!
In my current job, all the good and nice people are either quitting or bullied out of the company. I miss them. Sigh. -

I've had the fortune of working with a great group of people in both jobs I've held since I started working, all of them individually awesome. I wouldn't be where I am (nor who I am) now without the influence of the whole lot of them :)1

Best coworkers I had on my last project. I learnt from all of them and we were a large team but we all had a holistic view on how software should be made and the standard of quality that we should meet. It was great just a shame management above us didn't realize what they had and ruined such an incredible team.

@BinaryProvider is the best co-worker anyone could strive for. It was my first job, but I got hired on the basis of my will to learn. He got me the most powerful workstation, all the software, and then backed that up with relentless faith in me not screwing everything up. I will be forever grateful for everything I'm learning here! I am in a team where almost everyone is an apt critique. everyday new challenges and people seem to be so competitive that they don't share any information across, thus making everyone isolated and whack the motto "collaboration is key" teamwork rarely comes into play and it is most if the times one man show. thriving in such an environment is a challenge thanks team 😃

My best coworker was probably my last boss and team. We always were able to help each other out when needed and really worked as a team. It was great except no one worked onsite so it's not like we could go get drinks or lunch.

I'm lucky in my current main ally in all things development. I am a digital designer who has kind of fallen ass backward into being the company coder - because I had to redo our website in 6 weeks. He is a database/data admin who has ended up the company sysadmin and IT manager.
Together, we put things together however we can to get things working. We probably aren't the fastest or the flashiest, but we get things done in a way I've not experienced in previous jobs - it's refreshing to work with someone in a similar mindset of rather learning a tool and implementing something properly, than either hiring a random consultant or doing a half-assed job.
