Our university will have a fancy laser lab with a direct fiberoptic connection to the most accurate atomic clock 200km away.
But the online system still cant handle more than few 1000 students trying to check their grades/plan...5 -
PM: "Why are you absent on a regular holiday?"
FUCK, I JUST NEED THAT DAY TO GET PAID AND REST AND YOU WANT ME TO WORK FOR IT DURING HOLIDAYS?13 -
Just wanted to remind everyone to remember to backup their files 🙂.
Ubuntu just crashed, had to reinstall the OS, luckily for me, I did all my backups and probably lost 30 seconds worth of work.14 -
What do you think of pair programming?
Does it automatically allow for (much) higher quality code?
Is there truth and practicality in it?
Have you applied this in your company?
I think it's a bit of a dogma and its benefits depend on whom you're working with. Sometimes two incompatible people will waste each other's time, or a person who works much better alone will instead work in a worse manner.
I know for a fact there are colleagues (including myself) who can't stand it when someone else is looking at their screen.

Ordered a new high storage dedicated server (rented online) today.
The fucker wasn't delivered as soon as I hoped so decided to finally go to bed at 2am.
Aaaaaand then, of fucking-course, I got the email with the deployment notification literally the second before I went to sleep.
No sleep yet anyways, I guess 😅8 -
I just learnt abt Stadia from Google!
They said “imagine a world where you don’t need expensive gaming hardware to play the next release.”
But my question is “will I need an expensive service to access that?”
Is it gonna be another Netflix thingy for game? For now I’m just thinking abt how much they’d charge for hosting the game on their server, wow.6 -
Am I the last one here late to the party? Just try out and impressed by VSCode and this is my thoughts about the editors:
- I have been loyal to Sublime Text for like 5+ years, cannot complain much.
- Notepad++ was my first love, but absent on Linux so got to say goodbye.
- VSCode is the latest I try out and very rare one I could spend a couple of hours to dive into its settings to make it easier to use. The extensions are impressive!
- Atom, Bracket, and those blabla of their kind are bullshit.
- Jetbrains products are heavy ass, I can't even take a note!
- Vim is great too, but it's not the thing that I can just "open up and start typing".
- Have no idea about Emacs, but supposedly it's nowhere near its UI-friendly brothers, so I give no patience.27 -
Ran into a girl who I had a crush on in high school at a bar last week. Hanged out for a bit, but then I had to run catch the last train home.
Today I get a message from her that reads: "Hey, it was nice to meet you last week. Can I call you some time, there's something I want to tell you. 😉"
I think to myself -- sweet and say that I have no meetings today, call me whenever you can.
A couple of minutes later she calls me, and the first thing she says: "I have this app idea..."
fuck, shouldn't have hyped myself up.29 -
I’m so sorry! No, I do NOT have 9 years experience using this framework that has only been out for 5 years 🙃5

I shall not be limited by the boundaries that they have defined for me! I shall break free from these chains and transcend my internal barriers!
I shall earn my freedom!

Imagine if you will, a fictional world outside our own.
In this world, the requirement for getting a drivers licenses is 4 years of research into quantum mechanics.
- Was it interesting? Yeah.
- Did I learn it because I had to? Yup.
- Will I use the harmonic oscillation calculations of a particle when driving my car. Fuck no!
- Did it cost me an ungodly amount of money? It sure did!
- Will some dumb people still say it was useful because it is the minimum (fictional) barrier to entry for driving a car. You bet your sweet ass they will!!!
It was about as useful as any made up requirement, make-work, self-funding, circle-jerking, waste or time and money to feed the pockets of people who are too scared to do actual work so they teach, can be.
I paid all that money to be taught technology that was old when my mother was in school.
In the first year out of school, with only a $300 subscription to PluralSight some uDemy courses and hard work, I learned 100X as much as everything they put in front of me in school.
-------
School has its place.
Children who don't understand the importance of learning and need their hand help.
Adult children (some of which on on their 3rd or 4th degree) who also need their hand held.
People too afraid to enter the real world.
Doctors.
-------
I would do it again because it is the minimum requirement of entry, but thats nothing more than a bullshit make-work project.
Play their game as long as you need to. Keep your own game in mind. Don't drink the koolaid, just fake a sip. Then when the time is right, play by your own rules.

My boss intentionally changed my IDE font color to black since im using dark theme. I was literally confused a solid 30 minutes.

That awkward moment when you realize the code you have been debugging for an hour actually works fine and updating the entire dataset. You've just been returning only the top 1000 rows.2
