Search - "spammers"
This happened at my previous job where I worked for a dating app. It was at a time where the CEO was trying to turn the dating app into “more than a dating app” by adding tons of social features. We always had “interests” which allowed users to see what interests they had in common with another person, but he wanted to take the social component even further.
So with that, he decided we needed an “activity feed.” The activity feed would show what various Facebook connected users were liking on Facebook, posting on Facebook, etc. On a dating app. Where the majority of the audience was > 50 years old. The idea was absolutely ridiculous and everyone but the CEO knew it was destined for failure before we started building it.
But that’s not the best part. The best part was when we launched the activity feed component. We launched it late on day and went home shortly after. The next morning, we came in, and checked on the activity feed to see what was doing. It was literally all spammers liking porn/sex related stuff on Facebook. It was a complete disaster. All garbage but not just boring garbage - completely obscene garbage.
And just like that, the activity feature came and went in the course of a few days.18
A client called
Client: Hello Mr. Can you come to our office today?
Me: Yes sure
In fews hours I was there
Client: Check this email we are getting every day
It was email from spammers who asking to redesigning their website because it was not responsive
Me: 🧐Thinking ‘valid point !’
Me: So what you need me to do for you then?
Client: We need you to redesign the site
Lol - thanks spammers for bringing in new client13

Some lady: "hello, is this Mr XYZ."

So I got sick and missed it.... But the 6th marked my first entire year on devrant!
It's crazy to see how much the community has grown since I have first joined.
I remember constantly refreshing the 'recent' page and reading every single rant and comment that had been posted. Oh, the good old times, back when the memes where actually funny and there weren't any spammers..
I also "met" some really cool people ( @linuxxx and the rest of the people in the signal group) and tried Arch Linux for the first time (worth it!!)
And somehow after a year, I have became the 24th top ranter by ++ count (thanks to the devrant-stats people for that info) and one of the most searched users on the platform. I didn't expect anyone to care about my posts at all but I guess I was wrong..
So anyways... Thanks to @dfox and @trogus for this awesome community / app
Let's see how many more years I stay here....6
post != rant;
post = "Feature Request";
Stack Overflow is full of abuntch of downvoteing dickbuts. The devrant community is so much more accepting of new devs, why not add a question section.
Down votes would only be allowed for spammers.
One the question was solved, it would go into the devrant question archive, Searchable by everyone.
Ik you have heard this one before, but it's Just my two cents.10
Well fuck you too spammers
Also, this was in my spam folder, did they use css to make that picture show, individual pixels??11
Sometimes I wish devRant had private messaging feature.
Then I see spammers and 12 year old script kiddies around here and I realize why we don't have it.1
Why the flying fuck do spammers target an organization of goddamn gardeners? I mean, what's the damn purpose? there is no real monitary gain in bringing it down. Yet someone in Russia targets the page like there's no tomorrow. Is this pure destructivism?9
Apparently some fucking moron bot has started sending spam messages to random people using my email address in the 'from' field.
Subject: I want to feel the passion with you.
I know because I just received a Delivery Status Notification containing the full spam email.
Fuck you spammers and scammers. Wish you a horrible and slow death in a mincer.16
This works: email@example.com
Spam filtering protip:
Did you know that the email spec allows you to use firstname.lastname@example.org and the emails still come to you. This is especially useful when registering to a lot of places where you are not sure whether they will spam you or not. Filtering will be easy because you have a unique email address for each service. Also you can find out which service leaked your email address to spammers.
Additionally if you want to register to a service with two accounts but still want to use the same email, you can do this easily by adding +whatever in your email address.6
Amazon: you're logged into 53 devices.
Me: ooooh Kay, since when do I have that many devices. let's sign out of em all and change the password for some piece of mind.
Spongebob: * a few hours past *
Spam email: someone in the US has logged into your account - click here to verify through some random URL that doesn't even contain "Amazon" in it 🥳
I suddenly have that feeling Amazon sells you're account setting changes and not just your personal details.3
I am just fed up with spam messages on my Whatsapp/Facebook Wall/even Normal Messages. So from now on, I will be sending this to everyone who tries to spam me, even to those who are about to fucking press that send button to share "Send this to 4 people and image will change colour" shit. Save this image, might help you as well, let's fucking spam those spammers with this!4
I just noticed the "block user" feature.
I am now much more happy with this app (goodbye meme spammers)7
Question for Web Server Gurus and Security Ninjas.
How to prevent bots, crawlers, spammers sending various numerous requests to your web servers?
There have been numerous requests to routes like /admin /ssh /phpmyadmin etc etc and all kinds of stuff to the web server.
Is there a way to automatically block those stupid IPs :/9
I used to be a sysadmin and to some extent I still am. But I absolutely fucking hated the software I had to work with, despite server software having a focus on stability and rigid testing instead of new features *cough* bugs.
After ranting about the "do I really have to do everything myself?!" for long enough, I went ahead and did it. Problem is, the list of stuff to do is years upon years long. Off the top of my head, there's this Android application called DAVx5. It's a CalDAV / CardDAV client. Both of those are extensions to WebDAV which in turn is an extension of HTTP. Should be simple enough. Should be! I paid for that godforsaken piece of software, but don't you dare to delete a calendar entry. Don't you dare to update it in one place and expect it to push that change to another device. And despite "server errors" (the client is fucked, face it you piece of trash app!), just keep on trying, trying and trying some more. Error handling be damned! Notifications be damned! One week that piece of shit lasted for, on 2 Android phones. The Radicale server, that's still running. Both phones however are now out of sync and both of them are complaining about "400 I fucked up my request".
So yeah. I started writing my own implementations out of pure spite. Because I hated the industry so fucking much. And surprisingly, my software does tend to be lightweight and usually reasonably stable. I wonder why! Maybe it's because I care. Maybe people should care more often about their trade, rather than those filthy 6 figures. There's a reason why you're being paid that much. Writing a steaming pile of dogshit shouldn't be one of them.5
Yay I just got hit by the spam ban hammer, either that or these spammers are upvoting posts now 🤨12
Lately not a single day is passing without me being dazed in disbelief at the rock solid logic those indian and russian spammers have when they decide to spam their fucking """website design""" and """application development""" """services""" to a company that does exactly that for over 15 years.
FUCK YOU and your so-called """company""" and your shit services, you 'd all starve by the end of the week if you had to do for a living what we're doing on our fucking lunch break. Fucktards.
And how the fuck don't y'all just drink dishwasher liquid and die if you're stupid enough to not realize the 1st page on google is not where you can find gullible victims at...2
Has anyone ever bought a domain and left your info public?
It amazes me that these spammers can't even make their emails read well or professional ah oll
Like "Google top page)"
Did you really not see that parentheses there?3
More indian software scam spam today. Looks like those fucking assholes are starving pretty bad down there. Or at least I hope so.
One of these days I’m gonna spend some time putting together a script to send them automated replies of nice juicy steaks, cookies, fresh juice, nice shirts and piles of money. With a big FUCK YOU in the background7
OMG trying to work with sendmail, mutt and Amazon SES is a royal pain.
I'm a victim of the crossfire between spammers and anti-spam mechanisms.4
so, this is gonna be a little long question regarding life as a programmer . hope you can bear me.
so, the situation where i am is that i spend all my day in laptop cause i want to change the world and make better living for the poor by the support i can give to them using my knowledge. but eventually nothing is happening that way. my parents and siblings complaint that i spend all my day in front of the screen coding apps and doing some kind of programming. but the fact is that nothing is coming out of that . sometimes i feel depressed about it and it's kind of like i start hating YouTubers and promotional spammers who show how you can change life and earn billions with just your hello world apps. i had an app on play store which was doing decent but this year my publisher account (developer account) got terminated because i breaked some policies about whom i didn't knew exist.for now i just want to earn enough money and wanna help out people in my twenties.2
I've been trying to setup a mail server on my vps. Postfix is setup fine, I can send and receive mail with SSH, but I couldn't connect any mail client to the server. After a couple reinstalls, following a million tutorials, I finally found the reason.
The fucking reason was that fucking digital ocean FUCKING BLOCKS THE FUCKING PORT 25 BECAUSE FUCKING SPAMMERS ABUSED IT.
Switched postfix to use port 2525 instead and everything works as it should.
Fucking digital ocean, I swear I wouldn't use it if I didn't get free 50 dollars from github student pack.
On a side note, can anyone recommend a cheap vps provider that doesn't block ports?1
