Search - "private message"
I am fucking dying of laughter right now. 😁
Today I got a push message of the invoicing app I use from time to time and the message literally just said "lol" (without even the usual pre-fix of the app name or anything).
So after not figuring out where that could have come from and obviously theres no private messaging etc. in that app, I contacted support and they reacted surprisingly good and at same time hilariously good; they pushed now a team towards investigating that, as apparently I wasn't the only one.
I wonder who fucked up and literally pushed "lol" to thousands of people. 😂8
Last weekend I witnessed the most infected computer I have ever seen in my life...
I went on a private party. A girl had her laptop plugged to the speakers to play some music. This thing was literally 99% cancer. The first thing I noticed, when I looked at her opened browser, was that nearly half the screen was taken by toolbars. Also any popular website you could visit had additional ads INJECTED into it. The fist 10 YouTube search results: always porn. No idea how that didn't make her suspicious.
Precisely every 10th click (anywhere not only in the browser) would open up a window with either more ads or an aggressively blinking message saying: "A virus has been detected on your machine. Click here to download our antivirus programm. You have 60 seconds left before your firewall breaks!!!".
Also physically this device was on the edge of completely broken. The power supply had to be taped to the socket because it was so loose. Every little jiggle would immediatly shut the system down and Windows had to be completely reinstalled (which of course didn't solved any of the "software issues").
First I wanted to use that laptop to show some friends a new web project of mine but this thing probably would have DDoSed the shit out of my recently finished work or something.
I couldn't decide if I should laugh or cry...11
My first testing job in the industry. Quite the rollercoaster.
I had found this neat little online service with a community. I signed up an account and participated. I sent in a lot of bug reports. One of the community supervisors sent me a message that most things in FogBugz had my username all over it.
After a year, I got cocky and decided to try SQL injection. In a production environment. What can I say. I was young, not bright, and overly curious. Never malicious, never damaged data or exposed sensitive data or bork services.
I reported it.
Not long after, I got phone calls. I was pretty sure I was getting charged with something.
I was offered a job.
Three months into the job, they asked if I wanted to do Python and work with the automators. I said I don't know what that is but sure.
They hired me a private instructor for a week to learn the basics, then flew me to the other side of the world for two weeks to work directly with the automation team to learn how they do it.
It was a pretty exciting era in my life and my dream job.5
Colleague started a slack channel for our team, management wanted nothing to do with it. We used it to work and have a bit of fun.
Some push / drive came form somewhere and now all the managers are on it. Yesterday I was told my screenshot and "snarky comment" are not appropriate for the workplace and to delete my slack message.
My comment was a joke about about a new app the company has to use "to increase efficiency" that broke and wouldn't let me do what I needed. It wasn't offensive, demeaning, sexist to anyone or even contain any bad language.
How petty and childish to be monitoring a private channel making sure everything is positive. We all joked that from now on our meme's must be about how awesome the company is and how much time we are saving on a daily basis.
God forbid we're allowed to speak honestly and openly or have a bit of fun.8
How to post a question on a forum:
1. Create an account with a cute girl name like AnnaLovesYou143
2. Post your question. Ex. "How do I use Google? Thanks xOxO <3"
3. Wait for guys to give you a complete answer for your question or an offer to help you via a private message.7
Sometimes I wish devRant had private messaging feature.
Then I see spammers and 12 year old script kiddies around here and I realize why we don't have it.1
CAN YOU PLEASE UPDATE TO 2018!!!
My bank just sent me a message, that they have a new service where you can send a private message to your banker.
I needed to transfer money, and didn't have my cheque book on me, so I sent him a message to please transfer XX dollars to account YY.
Please send us a fax.
A FAX?? ARE YOU SERIOUS??
And that is supposed to be more secure than a private message from your website, after you force me to change my password every 90 days with crazy requirements that only satisfy hackers???
I told my friend that he will get his money when the bank updates the century they live in ...13
Everyone talks about their hate of js but like python is honestly just as bad.
- shitty package manager,
* need to recreate python environments to keep workflows seperate as oppose to just mapping dependencies like in maven, npm, cargo, go-get
* Can't fix python version number to project I.e specify it in requirements
- dynamic typing that gets fixed with shitty duck typing too many times
- no first class functions
- limited lambda expressions
- def def def
- overly archaic error messages, rarely have I gotten a good error message and didn't have to dive into package code to figure it out
- people still use 2.7 ... Honestly I blame the difficulty of changing versions for this. It's just not trivial to even specify another python version
- inconsistent import system. When in module use . When outside don't.
- SLOW so SLOW
- BLOCKING making things concurrent has only recently got easier, but it still needs lots of work. Like it would be nice to do
Or just running asynchronous functions on the global scope will make it know to go to some default runtime. Or heck. Just let me run it like that...
- private methods aren't really private. They just hide them in intelisense but you can still override them....
I know my username is ironic :P13
Published my first article on medium the other day, and today I got a private message from an editor, asking if I would be interested in posting to their publication 😁1
So I'm playing around with Node late at night and decide to make something of it. Made a real-time 2-way communication system with NodeJS, Express and Socket.io. The UI currently looks cheap, but it's clean. Open multiple tabs to see it in action.
You can also send private messages by typing /p username message. I could add authentication here and also connect it to MongoDB.
Any other ideas or reviews? Also any other ideas for Node projects? Thank you.
Try it out here: https://node--chat-io.herokuapp.com4
I'm currently developing an integration to an API and I found out a bug.
So I asked the contact person for the API if this feature was intentional. I did this on their forum for the API and I sent it as a private message to him.
I got a response telling me that they dont have the "sufficient details" to answer my question and that they would investigate the feature "comprehensivley".
5 minutes later I see a post on the forum in the developer section from the contact dude and it was my fucking question.
So now he's asking the users of the API if his and his companys own bug is intentional.
What the actual fuck?!
Is this how you investigate things "comprehensivley"?
I just found a new WhatsApp Crash Exploit. Full denial of service right there. An attacker could send a message to a Chat (be it private Chat or group Chat) and everyone who receives the message has no chance of starting WhatsApp again. It crashes and won't restart.
Tested on latest version on Samsung Galaxy S6 and S8. Don't know if it works on other versions but I am pretty sure it does. (It's midnight here, noone online to test)
The fun thing is, I knew this Bug for a long time but when I last tested it, nothing happened. Which means this Crash is only possible because someone at WhatsApp programmed a new Feature...21
I saw this image on IBM's blog. The author was explaining how blockchain could be used to implement self sovereign identities. But, isn't the last step wrong? In order to decrypt Alice's message, Bob should use his private key instead of Alice's public key, right? Of course, while encryption Alice has to use Bob's public key.4
Got tired of these "share or die" messages and sent this to everyone-
"Hey, read this,
1. WA will not give free stuff if you forward a message to 10 groups.
2. You can't send a message to some people and cure someone else's cancer
3. WA won't pay someone else when you forward a goddamn message.
4. WhatsApp gold is fake. It is a fake app that can steal your passwords, pictures and other private stuff.
5. Gods don't use WhatsApp. So you won't die if you don't forward messages.
6. WhatsApp.com is the only official WhatsApp site.
Sites like 'whatsapp.xyz.com' and 'claimprize.whatsapp.fml.com' are FAKE.
Now you know. Spread this! "14
I have no problem if you write me an e-mail or a private message on linkedin.
But don't assume I will accept your contact requests. That will be a bit suspicious considering my company's management is also on linkedin, don't you think?9
Pushed to production with a debug message left in. Whoops, debug message includes the private key. Ummmm...2
If I create a product, lets say a new toaster.
Naturally I have a .com website for that..
So far so good..
Next I create a support forum for the site.
From my limited understanding, no one would be allowed to do the following:
Post a URL to say, a website about a competitors toaster with a picture of said toaster.
Upload a picture of a competing brand of toaster from another site.
Say anything that was copyrighted such as, a christmas poem, or a famous quote from history.
Upload quotes from posted content anywhere else on the internet, or from a book, newspaper, written diary..
But forum users could do the the following ?
They would be allowed to upload a picture of themselves holding a competitors toaster..
Or upload their own words.
So, some questions:
How do you check uploaded content against the zillion TB of copyright data out there ?
Will every message/picture have to be moderator approved before being allowed to be posted ?
Could you have your forum hosted in another country without that law, or would you still be liable ?
I guess one could just do telephone support like the shit companies do already..
"New computer game out"
*support only available via phone between the hours of 1pm and 2pm on a Tuesday..*
But if I put my support forums on say, a site like Facebook, then its entirely their problem to deal with ?
Or will the moderator of a group have any legal responsibility ?
Does this only apply to open public groups that anyone can join, or will this also effect private member only clubs ? (eg. closed non-public viewing forums.)
Suddenly I feel less and less like making and trying to sell anything if I can't support my customers easily and cheaply. (Read affordable..)26
Couldn't remember my password that I have been using several times a day for the past year. I even used it today, but could not consciously remember the code.
So I am going to post it here so I can look it up if I need to: 12345
Notice: This is a private message only to be shared with the intended recipient. You must disavow any knowledge. When asked about this message you will spontaneously squawk like a duck. You have been thoroughly disclaimed.2
At first: Maybe you dont agree with my opinion thats fully okay but please respect it.
Dear Telegram Team. Hey, i like your app and appreciate that you try do defend spam. everyone hates spammers but your AUTOMATIC spam detection system is bullshit. That is one thing. The other thing is to lie directly into my and other users face.
You nice spambot tells me my message that was flagged as spam has been forwarded to a human moderator that confirmed it as such. BULLSHIT. Why does a spambot tell me that and not a real human if that would be true ?
You dont even manage to get rid of the pedos and isis terrorists of your app but you wanna tell me you have the resources to check every single message that got flagged as spam by a human ?
You say you have a userbase of 200 Million User
Do you really think your users are that dumb ?
There are no or not as many human moderators. You cant tell me you can check every single Message of 200 Million Users.
You advertize yourself as a free trustworthy open source messenger. (i didnt know that 234 days old source code is open source that is useless because we need to use your api to build own apps) and then you still have the balls to lie at such small things ? Really ? Why dont be honest and say yes of course, its automated.
The Question is when you lie already at such small things Why should people still trust you ? Now with the new passport service you offer and in general. Your servers are still today closed source and the source code of your x apps isnt published today.
Btw if my message got forwarded to human i wanna know who gives you the right to check my private messages im sending to my friends ?. Yes i know there is this cool spam report button but friends dont press it and even when so a message cant be checked in 60 seconds by a human. And also: how can Secret Chat Messages that are E2E encypted even read by you ???? Hell you didnt even awnsered me that in 72 hours since i asked you.
Then was a few month ago the incident with blocking all nsfw groups and channels. you said whoops it was an accident but eh why would you block them in general ? We are living in the 21. Century. Every second hollywood movie has a sex scence in it. Maybe in russian you have an other view of things but even there nsfw content is nothing that should be blocked.
To be fair you do many things better then whatsapp but you arent more trustworthy then whatsapp or facebook.
Ps. to the admins at the publictestgroup of telegram. Over 1.5 years i donated and spended my time in that group and then you do such a shit. even when your group is semi offical you represent telegram a bit you should be a bit more respectful to members.
Thanks for reading the rant. Even if you maybe dont agree with my opinion..... Do you know alternatives for telegram ? Wire and Signal dont have public groups. Any other Messenger i could try ?9
I almost never enter a commit message for my private git repos. Sometimes I even forget what I did to some of the files (Unreal Engine files are mostly binary except the config and c++ files, so not that easy to check for changes). That combined with my bad attitude to change some stuff here, then fix a minor bug there and then start something completely unrelated leads me just saying fuck it and commiting without message.1
Q.14 - Suppose that R sends a msg 'm' which is digitally signed to M and the pair of private and public keys for M and R be denoted as K(x)- and K(x)+ for x=R,M respectively. Let K(x)(m) represent the encryption of 'm' with a key K(x) and H(m) is the message digest. Which of the following is the way of sending the msg 'm' along with the digital signature to M?
A. [m, K(R)+(H(m))]
B. [m, K(R)-(H(m))]
C. [m, K(M)-(H(m))]
D. [m, K(A)+(m)]
E. WOW, REALLY ?4
Error Message : No ClassToInherit class found. There must be a class which inherits from ClassToInherit in the namespace 'blah'.
okay but there is a class in that namespace which inherits from ClassToInherit.
I hate private frameworks.
Everyone please drop into the comments and drop there your public PGP key. I hope like this we can implement kind of PM system on devRant. If you are new to PGP please dont share your private key. Keep that one as or even more safe then your heart. (Not even your wife or GF need to know this key. ONLY YOU know it)
Lets get this started.
Also if the message is too long please paste it to pastebin or other site like that.25
@dfox @trogus do you have any plans for adding chat with other plp around here or link to external portal profiles? I'd like to send a private message to one of them but I can't 😐
Btw I know it's hard to maintain something like that in a database since it takes much space but I wanted to ask anyway 😉15
Hope to find some help here. So i got a MacBook Pro (2015) from my Workplace and upgraded it to High Sierra. I set everything up and it worked fine untill i did some User configurations. I couldnt access the Settings in preferences because my password was wrong (it wasnt really, but it didnt accept it). So i thought reinstalling would help. I did the reinstall process but got an error at the end of it. “Could not create a reboot partition”. I don’t remember the message exactly. So I have tried several things and hope someone can give me a hint.
- reinstall via cmd + r -> failed
- made a time machine backup from my private MacBook (High Sierra) and put it in my work MacBook -> failed
- recovery from internet -> failed
- external drive with High Sierra installer and booting it from there -> failed
Hope you guys have a clue what to do. Thank you :).8
So as a personal project for work I decided to start data logging facility variables, it's something that we might need to pickup at some point in the future so decided to take the initiative since I'm the new guy.
I setup some basic current loop sensors are things like gas line pressures for bulk nitrogen and compressed air but decided to go with a more advanced system for logging the temperature and humidity in the labs. These sensors come with 'software' it's a web site you host internally. Cool so I just need to build a simple web server to run these PoE sensors. No big deal right, it's just an IIS service. Months after ordering Server 2019 though SSC I get 4 activation codes 2 MAK and 2 KMS. I won the lottery now i just have to download the server 2019 retail ISO and... Won't take the keys. Back to purchasing, "oh I can download that for you, what key is yours". Um... I dunno you sent me 4 Can I just get the link, "well you have to have a login". Ok what building are you in I'll drive over with a USB key (hoping there on the same campus), "the download keeps stopping, I'll contact the IT service in your building". a week later I get an install ISO and still no one knows that key is mine. Local IT service suggests it's probably a MAK key since I originally got a quote for a retail copy and we don't run a KMS server on the network I'm using for testing. We'll doesn't windows reject all 4 keys then proceed to register with a non-existent KMS server on the network I'm using for testing. Great so now this server that is supposed to connected to a private network for the sensors and use the second NIC for an internet connection has to be connected to the old network that I'm using for testing because that's where the KMS server seems to be. Ok no big deal the old network has internet except the powers that be want to migrate everything to the new more secure network but I still need to be connected to the KMS server because they sent me the wrong key. So I'm up to three network cards and some of my basic sensors are running on yet another network and I want to migrate the management software to this hardware to have all my data logging in one system. I had to label the Ethernet ports so I could hand over the hardware for certification and security scans.
So at this point I have my system running with a couple sensors setup with static IP's because I haven't had time to setup the DNS for the private network the sensors run on. Local IT goes to install McAfee and can't because it isn't compatible with anything after 1809 or later, I get a message back that " we only support up to 1709" I point out that it's server 2019, "Oh yeah, let me ask about that" a bunch of back and forth ensues and finally Local IT get's a version of McAfee that will install, runs security scan again i get a message back. " There are two high risk issues on your server", my blood pressure is getting high as well. The risks there looking at McAfee versions are out of date and windows Defender is disabled (because of McAfee).
There's a low risk issue as well, something relating to the DNS service I didn't fully setup. I tell local IT just disable it for now, then think we'll heck I'll remote in and do it. Nope can't remote into my server, oh they renamed it well that's lot going to stay that way but whatever oh here's the IP they assigned it, nope cant remote in no privileges. Ok so I run up three flights of stairs to local IT before they leave for the day log into my server yup RDP is enabled, odd but whatever let's delete the DNS role for now, nope you don't have admin privileges. Now I'm really getting displeased, I can;t have admin privileges on the network you want me to use to support the service on a system you can't support and I'm supposed to believe you can migrate the life safety systems you want us to move. I'm using my system to prove that the 2FA system works, at this rate I'm going to have 2FA access to a completely worthless broken system in a few years. good thing I rebuilt the whole server in a VM I'm planning to deploy before I get the official one back. I'm skipping a lot of the ridiculous back and forth conversations because the more I think about it the more irritated I get.1
