Story time:
I was once working on a project that dealt with incredibly sensitive financial data.
We needed a client’s database to do a migration.
They wouldn’t send it over the internet because it was too big and they didn’t think it would be secure.
They opt to send it in the post on an encrypted usb drive.
(Fair enough thinks I)
USB drive arrives.
Is indeed encrypted.
MFW there’s a post it note in the envelope with the password on.
MFW this is a billion dollar multinational petrochem company.
MFW this same company’s ‘sysadmin’ and ‘dba’ once complained because a SQL script I sent them didn’t work - they’d pasted it twice and couldn’t work this out from the fucking “table already created” error message management studio was throwing at them.3 -

Boss: "oh."
And it was a mail which he received from somebody and wanted to forward....7 -

Testing my email filters today after receiving an email about the "gender" section of my form. Which only has male/female in it.
The person sending the mail (it) apparantly has "some" knowledge of the inspector and tried to edit in some gender.
Upon failing to do so i got a not so nice email, asking why i don't support all the other genders. And i got called some names instantly for being a sexist pig and whatnot. It waa obvious this person wasn't even trying to be reasonable.
Now i got small patience for people like that. So i send an email explaining why i couldnt add other genders. The reason being i render my gender form as a boolean. Male true/false. And that even the female option is just a placeholder that does nothing.
OhBoi.jpg
Apparantly i'm now on some gender hating blacklist or something. As my mail filter is just crunching about 20 mails an hour of people calling me a bigot amongst others.31 -
If there is SMTP (Simple mail transfer protocol), is there also HMTP (Hard mail transfer protocol)?7

So the tax authorities in the Netherlands have this slogan that roughly translates to:
"We can't make it fun, but we can make it easier."
I'm not sure how this is going to be easy for me. This arrived in the mail today.
Even worse this is a fuck up from them. They are saying our company did not do it's taxes but when we log in their online portal we can see that we did them. But they are saying that they don't see it in their system.
Who build that system?
Trying to stay calm when they are claiming I own them more taxes then my company has earned in a year.
I did not have enough sleep for this drama.
By the way how about we save some trees and don't send 30 letters on 1 day.12 -
One month ago. By email.
Boss: so, this client A has a problem with one of our devices and he believes that it's a bug in the software.
Me: all right then, what happens?
Boss: well, he says that the parameter P in the option menu does not changes the device's behaviour as it is supposed to. I'll forward you his mail. You will find attached an excell file with the results of his test performed with and without the parameter active.
Me: < read mail, read excell file > well, boss, his tests are performed in completely different conditions, how could he expect to infer a meaningful results from this?
Boss: damn, you are right. Send him a test plan and follow up.
Me: < send detailed test plan >
No answer in a week. Then...
Client: hi, there, I made this tests, I attached the excell with the results, can you check the software now?
Me: < read another bullshit filled excell file with none of the suggested test performed >
You know what? Just download the procedures you are using from the device and send them by mail, specifying the software version you are using so we can perform some tests here in the lab and get yo a solution asap.
No response. For a MONTH.
Super Boss: client A still has his problem, how could possibly be that it takes more than A FUCKING MONTH to solve his issue??

A co-worker at the city-government just chose the wrong mailing list and send an e-mail to EVERY SINGLE emlpoyee (about 20'000 people, including our police-department, hospitals, councils etc.).
Within A MINUTE hundrets of people responded to the mail by using the "reply all" button, pointing out that this mail obviously wasn't meant for them.
After another minute the same douchebags sent another mail (of course using the "reply all" button AGAIN), asking to be removed from the mailing list and stop spamming them.
Even two hours after blocking the mailing list immediately, our mail servers still are processing all those damn mails.
RIP exchange servers

RIP faith in humanity

But this fucking Gmail keeps putting me the spam folder ! Why do you hate my so much ?23 -

N e v e r, fucking e v e r chmod/ chown permissions recursive on the linux /etc folder❗
I did yesterday (, because I am fucking dumb and know little about linux systems) and got the result today. My whole mailserver wasn't working.
After fucking tons of googling and searching and log-digging I found that postfix and opendkim require specific permissions on their respective folders and files.
After changing a fucking amount of permissions on those fucking files the fucking mailserver worked and I can send and receive mails, now. 😤😤😤
What a torture. Lesson learned. Never will repeat this mistake.17 -

This happened via mail thread today.
Boss: we need this new brilliant feature I just made up and running asap! Top priority, it has to be done well, for my reputation is on the line!
Me: *looks at the specifics* 'kay, looks easy enough, this evening max and it will be ready. I just nees some extra info about what kind of data validations (I speak no accountant) are needed, and some other details (a total of 3 questiona).
B: Sure! Remember, it needs to be perfect, as my reputation is at stake. Call me on the phone and I'll give you the details!
M: Can't you answer via mail? Thua way both me and the other devs will have clewr guidelines
B: Just call me! Why do you need it to be written down? It's faster this way!
...Fine. I'll keep asking until you're ready to give me a written answer to my questions. No way I'll take security details via phone for something you want in production this evening. No chance in Hell I'll take responsibility for "misunderstanding" what you said on the phone. Why does it always has to be like that?8 -

My girlfriend configuring her e-mail account in the app because her phone had to be reset to factory :
-I can't figure out how to do these setting, annoying...
-Oh yeah the imap and smtp servers can be tricky, let me put that
(I Google the settings for her mail provider and put them in)
-It still doesn't work.
-Uuuh, maybe with another security setting, try it.
-This shit still doesn't work, seriously my phone is broken.
-Have you verified the e-mail address and carefully typed the password?
-Yes of course, I've tried it several time
(I take the phone and check all the parameters... During a looooong time... Until it hits me.)
-Hmm... Can you read the e-mail you've entered?
-Yeah, it's my mail, blabla@hotmail.com.
-No can you read it again please?
-It's blabla, why?
-No, can you *spell* your e-mail?
-Yeah it's B-L-A-B-L-A-@-H-O-M-A... Ow shit...
- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
Holy fucking shit! What the actual fuck is this?!!!

Recently I got an E-Mail from PayPal.de with the headline "Your account gets limited". Fun Fact: I don't have a PayPal account.
This Mail got me curious though, as it couldn't be a phishing mail, since I don't have a PayPal account in the first place, so I opened the e-mail just to get greeted by pure emptiness. It was completely empty. I thought to myself "oh no, is this some sort of new trick? Did I get infected by some sort of a weird hacky backdoor trojan already?!"
Name: PayPal.de
Original E-mail Address: NULL (never seen this before)
I then realized, that Thunderbird blocked the only content from this mail: a clickable image.
This is getting even more confusing the longer I examine this unique mail. The image is showing me a domain from a site completely unrelated from PayPal, so it was obviously no phishing, but I didn't trust this clickable image, so I looked up its hidden link to find an even more confusing redirection to not a picture upload site like the image suggests, but to a game key reselling site instead, like wtf? What was the whole point of this whole e-mail? Was this a weird try to make advertisements for more than one website? It wasn't even a ref-link or something like that. It was just weird, iunno.10 -

Set up a mail server for our office using one of those all-in-one mail server installations. It would keep denying connections every few days, so me, being the inexperienced shit I was, setup a cron job to restart the server at midnight everyday. It worked and still, to this day, it still works.1

Today I wrote a mail to the company to record two weeks of illness. Now, the mail started off being about my holidays in a few weeks, but I decided to write the illness mail first. Stupid me forgot to change the subject from "holidays" to "illness"... I'm so fucked. Wish me luck!2

So I set up push notifications from my Raspberry Pi to my Android phone, to know when exim sent a mail locally.
The easy part was the actual push notifications.
The more tedious part turned out to be looking for a way to send a notification for each mail.
After some research, Procmail seemed to be the only fitting tool to pass info to a command (in order to give the push notification some content so I know what's up)
In the middle of everything, I managed to fuck up exim system-wide, so mails didn't work, which was fucking great of course...
The magic receipt is this:
:0 c
| ${NOTIFY} -t "Pi mail: $SUBJECT"
Anyway, this is the result (using a test mail by mdadm + an actual degraded array I am still waiting on replacement drives for):2 -

We are not friends, Alexa and Clark. I don't even want to be your friend, I just used your services a long time ago. I don't fucking care who's the name of the one sending me spam, because, as I don't remember asking you to send me e-mails, your are just sending me spam.

Let’s see I suppose the most pissed off I’ve been at work would be....
Being blamed for a clients mistake when their newsletter email settings where being changed over to a new mailing system but during the change over they wanted to still send out mail using the old list. So a single endpoint was kept in place so they could send one last newsletter out after it was approved as part of the migration and they were to inform us when they were done so we could change that endpoint over.
Several months later when everyone had long forgotten about it, the client tried to send another mass mail out using the old endpoint and complained when no emails had been sent.
I was blamed for making this mistake even though management approved the fucking old endpoint to be left in place at the clients request against my concerns that someone’s going to forgot about this and I was never informed to swap it over.
I quit on the spot and walked out the door after that. -
That's it. I'm gonna sell my body for a living instead.rant may your biscuit break when you dunk it read your fucking mail incapable bellend cc stands for cunty clients3
-
So sick of this shit.
It should be illegal.
I just want to get my stickers and never check the mailbox again.3 -
Guys what I want to know is how do you secure your code so that they pay you after you deliver the code to them?
So recently I was in this internship that I secured with an over-the-phone interview and the guy who was contacting me was the CEO of the company (I'm going to refer to him as "the fucking cunt" from now on). He asked me to do some OCR and translations and I managed to write a few scripts that automate the entire process. The fucking cunt made me login remotely to his desktop which was connected to the server (who the fuck does that) and I had to operate on the server from his system. I helped him with the installation and taught him how to use the scripts by altering the parameters and stuff, and you know what the fucking cunt did from the next day onward? Dropped contact. Like completely. I kept bombing emails upon emails and tried calling him day after day, the fucking cunt either picked up and cut the call immediately on recognising its me or didn't pick up at all. And the reason he wasn't able to pay me was, and I quote, "I am in US right now, will pay you when I get back to India." I was like "The fuck was PayPal invented for?" Being the naive fool that I was, I believed him (it was my first time) and waited patiently till the date he mentioned and then lodged a complain in the portal itself where he had posted the job initially. They raised a concern with the employer and you know what the fucking cunt replied? "He has not been able to achieve enough accuracy on the translations". Doesn't even know good translation systems don't exist till date ( BTW I used a client for the google translate API). It has been weeks now and still the bitch has not yet resolved the issue. And the worst part of it was I got a signed contract and gave him a copy of my ID for verification purposes.
I'm thinking of making a mail bomb and nagging him every single day for the rest of his life. What do you guys think?11 -
BRUV,
WTF,
SO I JUST FOUND OUT THIS:
Hostinger changed its mailservers from mx1.hostinger.com, to IMAP.hostinger.com and SMTP.HOSTINGER.COM
This means that all of the emails that I sent out for the last 2 weeks on my phone(the only place where I send out emails) has been going to fadoodle knows where?
Now that I changed on my phone the incoming and sending servers and I send out a email it appears as spam, but It dosent do that when I send it out of the web platform.
So like bruv, more digging to do...
HOSTINGER U BICH ASS FUCKING CUNTS, DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY EMAILS I NEEDED TO FORWARD BCZ OF THIS???😂
And I though people were Beeing rude or something3 -
Just because I don't have any message in my work email account doesn't mean I have to get shit talk from Microsoft (out of all the tech companies)!!!!2

Here comes the story how I became a DevRanter.
When I was young, I built an expensive gamer-machnine, so I had to crack games. I Got used to computers, so I startet an apprenticeship in IT. I finished with good grades. I left everything and everyone behind and moved in a city, found a parttime job as a PHP developer and started studying CS. After 5 years doing work as developer, studying CS, creeping around as soldier, I finally finished and graduated. After a few months working fulltime (same job), as my life began to settle down and I got bored.
A flatmate (also CS) laughed his ass off about something, then he introduced me to DevRant. It became part of my life to read DevRant, to overcome boredom. But there are not enough new Rants.. I'm f'cked. OK, I resigned my Job, and my flat and signed up for the BS in natural scinces at university in an even bigger city. I will again leave everything behind to begin a new life. Now I'm planing to freelance to pay the bills and challenge me again. Wish me luck :)
So I am beginning this new life with writing this story, how i became a dev. I klick Post, and bang! "please verify your email before ranting.. blah" I got no mail, no span, nothing. Resend.. wait.. nothing. I WAS BORED AGAIN!! FUCK YOU MAIL-SERVER, WHY CAN'T YOU SEND AN EMAIL WITHIN SECONDS OR MINUTES, WE ARE IN 21ST CENTURY AND THE INTERNET CONSISTS MAINLY OF OPTIC FIBER CABLES!!
And this is, dear DevRant community, how i become a Ranter, just then when I wanted to Post my first story.4 -
Can somebody recommend me a best open source email server ?
I found iredmail and mailinabox.
Confused a bit is there any other am i missing ?29 -
Passive aggressive deed of the day: Whenever i am replying to a mail with no subject, i start with "sorry i missed your mail as it went to my spam folder, maybe because it didnt have a subject".
-
So here goes my first rant...
I was looking for a job as a software developer when I saw one nice company hiring.
I apply to them via their form online. Then they invite me to come to their event during which they will explain everything in details.
I go there (despite the time of the event being uncomfortable for me) and listen to them for a while. Basically, they say they will send the test task to all applicants and see how it goes.
Later same day they email me saying they didn't get my CV via their form and they need me to resend it so they can send the test task. Alright, no big deal, done.
Now today they email me saying "sorry, motherfucker, better luck next time".
What the actual fuck? I spend my fucking time to go to some shitty event saying a test task will decide everything to not even get one.
So, naturally, I go and re-check my email: I definitely did send them my CV;
seems like they ignored the email and eliminated me from the application process for not having my CV, fuckers.
If they will ever in the future invite me to an interview/offer me a job there, I won't take for fucking triple pay.
Thanks for reading and helping me vent my anger, have a nice day:)3 -
I use yahoo email as my main email, because that's what my father used when I first created an account like 10 years ago... That was a big fucking mistake it seems...5
-
I recommend the writing of e-mail templates as an alternative to frequently writing similar e-mails; I have found that this is a good method of saving time.5

Hey there 👋
I am more or less throwing any burden (WhatsApp, Facebook, Google etc.) out of my life. Of course I will continue using the Google account for YouTube and some games that need it.
That's what it looks like right now:
Raspberry Pi 3B+
✅ webserver
- forum - complete (atm just for me)
- blog - no ideas and just installed october cms and nothing done yet
- nextcloud - complete and filled with my porn... eeh... data
✅ mailserver
(missing spamassassin, clam or sth. like this but it's working 😂)
✅ matrix-synapse
(as an additional alternative to messengers)
______________
Raspberry Pi 2
✅ catches dust
(any ideas?)
Of course, many more configurations and the like are necessary before everything is ready... but what then or what else is there?
At the moment I still use WhatsApp. Just wanna take time before sending everyone a message about changing the messenger and that it should be important for thinking about the own privacy, which alternatives there are bla...
Edit: For passwords I'm using Myki - didn't hear anything bad about it yet and it's very easy to use (Firefox add-on, Android app).
I love my passwords with 200 characters 😂
Maybe someone's knowing more about them?
Hope I didn't forget a thing... thanks in advance aaaaaaand... I'm gone. ☺23 -
By:Miss. Lucia Wright
Punchline : VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE MY DEAR
Dearest Friend,
My greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am sister Lucia Wright I am married to Archdeacon. Collins Wright whom until his death served as an archdeacon in the St. Micheal's archdeacon in Ivory Coast for nine years before he died in the year 2005. We were married for eleven years without a child. My Husband died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days.
Before his death we were both born again Christian. After the death of my Husband I decided not to re-marry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is against. When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of $22. Million in a security and finance company in London for safe keeping.
Presently, my Doctor confirmed to me that I have serious sickness which is cancer problem. The one that disturbs me most is my stroke sickness. Haven known my condition I decided to donate this fund to a church or individual that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein. I want a church that will use this fund for orphanages, helping the widows, propagating the word of God and to endeavor that the house of God is maintained. The Bible made us to understand that? Blessed is the hand that giveth'. I took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are not Christians and I don't want my husband's efforts to be used by unbelievers. I don't want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly way,
this is why I am taking this decision.
I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord. Exodus 14 VS 14 says That? the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace'. I don't need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health hence the presence of my husband's relatives around me always. I don't want them to know about this development. With God all things are possible.
As soon as I receive your reply I will give you the contact of the security and finance were the amount sum is deposited for you to contact them, I want you and the church to always pray for me because the lord is my shepherd. My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoever that Wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and Truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life.
Any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing another church or individual for this same purpose. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I Stated herein. Hoping to receive your reply. Due to present condition of my health,I was warned by my doctor to avoid receiving or making any call. For that,I have submitted the information of the deposit to my lawyer, As soon as I hear from you I will forward to you the lawyer's contact.
Remain blessed in the Lord,
Miss. Lucia Wright.
Well ok... If you want me to, I can surely help you out 😈😈😈😈😈7 -
As you problably know, Gmail sends mails to you when you create a new gmail account. These mails are about what you can do gmail etc.
But they send 3 mails! Why? Wouldnt it just be easier to send one and have a table of contents.
Sending one mail containing all info also takes less space in the list of mails you get.
Stupid google10 -
I just spent more than an hour helping my dad getting into his web mail again.
The provider he used as until now has merged with Vodafone, they also merged the webmail client. And ffs they made a mess of it. You had to request a new activation code and enter that into a one of three different forms all on one page with seriously confusing information as to which one you needed to use to reregister. After finally finding the right one and you can log in, they keep trying to get direct you to the Vodafone mail, not the original provider's webmail, which they kept separate. An all-in-all awful user experience. They had a downtime of about 10 days during the migration, and I still find bugs like endless loops while trying to load some sub-pages.
I can't help but wonder what all went wrong on the dev and devops side here. The downtime was awfully long, even for such a complicated merger. Was the dev team understaffed, or under qualified, or both? I also got my doubts about whether any UX staff was involved at all. The only thing I know is that as soon as I'm home for Easter, I will switch my dad over to a different mail client. Thanks Vodafone for one hour that I'll never get back.1 -
Does anyone use https://vpsserver.com ?
Looking at migrating from an expensive VPS host to something self managed and potentially dedicated for my personal sites.

Or does anyone have any recommendations before I drop a few quid into them?3 -
introductory rant
So I am new here, hi! :)
So the devRant android app does not seem to support this mail format:
user+devrant@domain
(the important part being the "+devrant" thing)
Now I waited 2 days for a confirmation mail that wouldn't arrive and was greeted with the "please confirm your fucking mail" popup every damn time.
"Okay, let's just change my mail to user@domain and deal with it", I thought. Guess what: You can't!
So I contacted the devrant team via e-mail.
And I waited.
2 days.
No answer.
Okay.
Delete account, recreate with other mail, be happy.
Don't worry, I'm not mad. It's just really fucking ironic.
Looking forward to a great community! :)5 -
Guess what came in the mail today (more like 1w ago but I wasn't home yet)! Thank you, devRant team :D
Obrigada! :D -
My IT-teacher has a website. Aside from it looking like from 1980 (which is ok), he has a "security js Mail decryption":
In his page there is a <script> with a simple yet custom de/encrypt function. Then his E-Mail is an <a href="javascript:mailto:function('rubberish173848'>private email</a>. (Or something like that)
You can just run this link (open email app and read it) or use the same function and same href in the browser console and read it. It sounds so stupid.
(Yet I figured out he probably doesn't want bots to spam his mail, so maybe I am stupid)1 -
telco sysadmin: hey maybe we should secure our SMTP server with SSL and password verification so our clients can e-mail safely!
senior exec be like: nah just filter incoming connections for our own IP-range, that'll do.
result: I can impersonate any client of the telco and send e-mail in their name (from any home network connected to that provider), but I can't send e-mail over cellular network.1 -
I once had a nightmare because my boss suddenly appear in my dream. After that I woke up and can't sleep again, so I'm checking my mail and there is a new mail from him.. On 2am.

Being a freelancer is not only coding. Mostly (for me at least) it's mailing until you mail your client: "I'm done for today."

After waiting weeks and weeks for my account to be deleted (they asked for email to support for that, altough egistration takes 5s) I finally asked last time, this time using magical word "GDPR"
Got my account and data deleted under an hour and now their account settings page have delete account button. Even if it's this fake one which only changes email/id to prefixed one, still it was worth it.8 -
No, I'm not interested in your credit card offer 😬

I once sent a test message mail to a list full of over 500 customers instead of the actual test list on mailchimp! :p

The big problem with Mastodon is that way too often it's run by people without the needed qualities.
Tried to sign up on a big instance and failed to get the registration mail.
Checking the mail log:
rejected: cannot not find your hostname, helo=<mastodon.localdomain>
(Not the exact log line, but the important parts)
And the best thing: No contact details because if something is wrong with the sign up you can contact them on Mastodon… clever… very clever…
Time to check if the postmaster address is used and read.
Pro tip: Who ever runs a Mastodon instance and allows public signups, please check your mail settings. Make sure you use valid data there and have working DMARC settings. If you don't want to take care, use a smarthost but don't use broken default settings! They are for testing only! -
Argh fuck you Microsoft for blocking my precious mail server. I can't believe that you were the only one. Even google accepts my mails with every fucking test passed...
Oh and not to mention that in the no delivery report you are referring an error code which is not present on the linked troubleshoot page. Thank you once more, you piece of shit.
Should have listened to the articles about why I don't want an own mail server...18 -
Ding... Ding... Ding... Thats the sound my mail client makes when somebody forks UnrealEngine and gives everybody push access. #MailParty #Socializing1

Did you ever had to integrate a fucking "API" that is done via mail bodies?
Fuck this shit! Who need responses about success or failure?! Guess this will take a long time to test this fucking piece of garbage... We don't get a test system, we need to test this with the production system of the other company. I hope their retarded application crashes when receiving malicious mails.
Not speaking about security, I bet everyone can send a mail to their stupid mail address and modify their data 🙈
And inside of this crap mail you also have to send the name, street and email of their company. Why do you fucking need this information?!1 -

import analogies
Customer: So I have two emails and I'd like to be able to use them.
Me: Okay, I see you have both Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird...
Customer: Yeah, Thunderbird was the old one we used, we now use the Windows Live Mail, but it's always having problems.
Me: Well, Windows Live Mail isn't supported anymore, so I would recommend moving back to Thunderbird.
Customer: But that would mean I would have to get another email, right?
Me: No... *thinks for a moment* OK, imagine you have a garden hose that is connected to the main line of your house. You with me?
Customer: I guess...
Me: So the connection from your house is your email - or at least the server out on the internet. Now on the other end you have a hose splitter, and it splits off into two other hoses. Still with me?
Customer: Yeah...
Me: So on the end of the other two hoses you have two spray nozzles; one for each hose. Now one nozzle is from company A and the other is from company B. Both nozzles share some spray types on the heads, but there are a few heads on A that B doesn't have and vice versa.
Customer: OK...
Me: Those spray heads are Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird. They receive your mail from the same place, like the water, but they have different features. Does that makes sense?
Customer: I suppose.5 -

They never display correctly in all clients.

Just missed a sodding call due to this crap.4 -
So, I just recieved a welcome email from bit.ac, with my email and a random generated password. The fact is that, I have never registered on this website. Did someone just registered with my email? Or maybe it's a new marketing strategy, to collect emails from another databases and send them emails, "reminding" them their email and a random generated password, so that who recieve the email, to be confused and to access the website to see what is all about, resulting that the company gets more traffic & eventually new possible customers?undefined someone made an account on my email random mail mail maybe marketing strategy? bitcoin bit.ac7

Outlook protection is shit!
Microsoft is blocking our company mail server AND even my private one for a couple of days now for no reason.
Every other mailing black list has nothing to complain but Microsoft: "You want to send a very important mail to your customer? Nope!"
And
"Yeah, now you tried to use your private server to fool me. Haha, nope! You didn't think I would block IPs randomly, did you?"
Fuck Microsoft! Fuck Outlook protection! Fuck hotmail!1 -

Follow up to my previous rant ( https://devrant.com/rants/1680373/... )
I've contacted digital ocean support and asked them about that blocked port. They said that they didn't block it and that I must've messed up with configuration. The thing is, when I set postfix to port 2525 it works perfectly fine and I can connect no problem. Will see how they respond to that...4 -

I tried ProtonMail after a user here got creeped out after watching snowden. And I like it. Sick of gmails intrusion to what I buy, where I go and yes the need of phone number. Why tho?
I think we as a developer community should educate the need of such encrypted non-intrusive services not necessarily proton to common people. Privacy is a right.
*doesnt apply to insta models though, lulz*1 -
So if you need a vulgar email domain have look at cock.li it's brilliant and those domains haha

Most illogical thing I had to do today.
Today i received an email from bank to fill an attached form to receive payment from a foreign country.
Face palm no 1: The form they sent was in doc format. The layout of the form was all fucked up.
So I downloaded a proper PDF version of the same form from the bank's website.
I filled the form on my computer and signed it using my pen tablet and emailed it back.
Few hours later somone from bank calls me.
Facepalm no 2: He sounded frantic. He asked me to physically mail the "orginal" of the form!
He was thinking I took the printout of the form, filled it by hand and send the scanned copy.
I told him I filled everything digitally so there is no "original" form in physical sense.
Also since I emailed him the form, it doesn't make any sense at all, for me to take the printout of the digital version and mail it to him when he could just open his email and take a print out.
He didn't seem to grasp that idea at all.
Finally, I agreed to go to a branch nearby me and got him speak to an employee there over my phone and they said they will courier the printout to him.
I don't know if the people there are dumb or I am too smart.4 -
I use mail.com and the amount of websites and companies that ask me if I'm sure I don't mean Gmail is so annoying. One finance company even changed it to Gmail without asking me! Time to change email addresses?2

You know it's bad when you've planned a word addon thats sole purpose is to do mail merges.
I've done guides and shown people how to do them. Still comes to me the bloke in IT to do a simple mail merge because googling it is too complex.
It's going to be epic it will hold their hands let them know they are bestest cupcake out of the whole batch.
The progress bar will be a rainbow and each button will sparkle. Because If I get taken of my dev work to do another fucking mail merge I'll probably quit on the spot.
And I do not have the savings readily available to hold me over until I got a new job.
Knob sockets the lot of em.1 -
This day is off to no good... :(
First l forget the ssh port to my mail server and now i realized that tomorrow is the last day the server is up. I need to add more credits but i literally have 2 cents on my bank account :(1 -
I just stumbled across this post about signed-only mails: https://k9mail.github.io/2016/11/... (TL;DR: Signed-only mails are not worth it).
So far, I've been signing all my mails (as not that many people I know use OpenPGP, so I'm far from encrypting everything). I've got a few replies like “I can't open that attachment” and “What is that .asc file?” but I have seen it as doing my part in motivating more people to use encrypted mail with little effort.
I DDW for a bit but couldn't find any other comments on the usefulness of signed-only mail per se. Consequently, I'd like to ask you: How do you use OpenPGP?6 -

So got first invoice for Internet in my new flat. Via e-mail with winmail.dat attached. WTF? Send them reply that their mailing system is broken. They replied that *I* probably have wrongly setup *Outlook* and sent me instructions how to configure my Outlook. Thank you, my mutt us fine and your instructions wouldn't work. Sent them another reply that I'm happy that they know the answer and that they should apply it to their setup as my mail setup is correct. Got e-mail with pdf. No wonder those guys don't suppprt IPv6 nor DNSSEC if they have troubles using plain e-mail. Maybe I should check whether they have DKIM or SPF and do some little evil...1
-
"Did you get my mail?" Can only be a valid question ONE TIME and that is after sending the frist mail ever to the reciver. How the fukk shall I know what mail "mail" refeers to? Stupid.

So one of our teacher gets a mail from her personal email id on her college id, saying, "Hi this is me". Goes to google and searches, " Hi this is me mail on gmail".

Worst documentation was a document made for a client's api that wasn't updated, they had to send us pretty much everything by mail so we could integrate it

fucking web hosts blocking all SMTP ports outgoing, forcing me to use PHP mail from their shitty blacklisted IP's.
Since I can't use a web api to send the mail Iended up setting up my home server to forward port 53 back out to the mail server, alot of hassle to get mail working :(14 -
After paying 3 years in advance to my host, some emails of the owner of a project I work with (very small thing, but still..) began to disappear. She doesn't receive the messages and neither the person who sends receives a error message. I've contacted them but no one could found out what is happening.
In this meantime, I had to change the PHP version (there is a version control in their cPanel). Just after changing, Mysqli and PDO stopped working. It took about 4 to 5 days for them to fixed it (shared host).
Back to today, I needed to send and receive lots of emails of this project. As we are losing tons of legitimates mails, we started to cc our personal emails to avoid misscomunication (deadlines are very important). Of course, exactly today, Microsoft's mail stopped accepting any emails of our host IP, as it appears someone has an Trojan hosted there. Of course, except me, everyone else personal email address are Outlook.com.4 -
Been using Yahoo's mail app and I'm pretty impressed with it. Finally a mail app that doesn't require you to turn on the Sync switch for it to work. What's your default mail app and why?21

Mesosphere sold every e-mail who registered with them to Tech Global Leads. Either that or Tech Global Leads stole a list of leaked e-mail addresses. In either case I unregistered/unsubscribed from Mesosphere and still got e-mails to those two specific accounts from Tech Global Leads with Mesosphere consulting soliciting. (So they keep e-mail information, even for accounts that unsubscribe).
TGL doesn't even have a website up. They're either amateurs or scammers. Either way, fuck you and your spam, both TGL and Mesosphere. Go die in a fire.1 -
I am planning to get a server (for mail, filesharing etc.). What do you guys recommend: going with NextCloud or setting up everything from scratch (FTP server, iRedMail etc.)2
-
Alright, here we go again with issues on Vector. (My home server that we're transitioning our website, infiniit.co to.)
I'm trying to get the email server up and running. It's a PITA which is evident by the fact we are now on attempt number 6, at least on the 6th VM now. At this time I'm installing a Ubuntu 16.04 LTS ISO and I'll be installing IRedMail unless someone else has any recommendations. So far I've had nothing but problems doing it manually, installing dovecot and postfix, trying to get them linked, and then the last failure was sending a test email locally.
Also, a continuation of the last issue that I had here, now my VMRC isn't working anymore for some reason. Ive forwarded websockets but it won't work unless I use local IP since everything (except direct local IP connections) is running through an apache VHost setup... My head hurts. Help pls.2 -
Okay, I've been thinking on this all week.

Some developers incopetence can be limitless. I found e-shop which uses creative but totally silly way of integrating with e-mails. See my last rant (they send e-mail with my 'From' to themselves). As I sent them delivery report (I have SPF enabled) and wrote them what is wrong, they apologized when I came to pick up the goods and were glad that I forwarded the report (otherwise my order would be quite delayed). But hey, everything is fine, they are working on new e-shop. I said great, hopefully it wouldn't be this messed up. And I was told that yeah, the new one will block .net and .com addresses right away. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? How can somebody use their incompetence as a reason to screw up even more! So next time, I'll probably use my local e-mail with SPF enabled to tech them to blick all e-mails and do stuff properly.

I got this mail from the company whose hackathon i was supposed to attend, i don't even own a camera.

Instant E-Mail back:
Thanks for your E-Mail, unfortunatly we cannot accept the .7z file. Please speak with out IT guy about the issue.
REALLY!? YOU GUYS SELL SOFTWARE AND YOU DONT KNOW WHAT 7Z IS ?!?!
I send a zip file in return without speaking to anyone.7 -
I've been trying to setup a mail server on my vps. Postfix is setup fine, I can send and receive mail with SSH, but I couldn't connect any mail client to the server. After a couple reinstalls, following a million tutorials, I finally found the reason.
The fucking reason was that fucking digital ocean FUCKING BLOCKS THE FUCKING PORT 25 BECAUSE FUCKING SPAMMERS ABUSED IT.
Switched postfix to use port 2525 instead and everything works as it should.
Fucking digital ocean, I swear I wouldn't use it if I didn't get free 50 dollars from github student pack.
On a side note, can anyone recommend a cheap vps provider that doesn't block ports?2 -
!rant, just looking for some input
I can't find a solution that I like for managing email/calendar in one whack for Linux. I use Debian, and am currently using Evolution mail client, but the calendar doesn't sync with my Exchange. I tried IceDove, but didn't love the mail (or calendar) client.
For my Linux brethren out there, what do you use to manage email/calendar? I've heard G-Suite used a lot, but I'd rather have native software than a dedicated browser window.
Thanks ahead of time.4 -
Any disposable e-mail address service:
"FIGHT THE SPAM"
"THANK YOU FIGHTING THE SPAM"
"YOU DID GOOD BY FIGHTING SPAM"
The users of disposable e-mail address:
*creates another spam account*
*creates another multiaccount in order to exploit a system*
Companies actually fighting spam:
Now there is even more spam to fight against. (which is not good)
About 2/3 of the accounts created daily on our website are spam accounts. We have to waste our time with this shit instead of actually improving our services. Since we do not track IP-Addresses and there are countless amounts of disposable e-mail domains AND there is still the option to create countless spam e-mail addresses within legit e-mail providers, there is no easy way of stopping this madness.
"Fight the Spam", you could start by deleting your shitty service or at least give us a list of all the domains you're using, srsly. -

Want to send an email? Sure thing, how about you configure first a DKIM, DMARC, SPF and some reverse DNS. Otherwise your mail can go fuck itself, because it won't even make it to the spam folder. Even if you do all these time consuming fuckwit tasks I might just mark your mail as spam. Because fuck you, that's why.

My company wanted me to make a signature for the google mail employee accounts but google said its too long even though the limit is at 10,000 symbols and it only had 300 letters visble with 3 images. Then I realized that google counts all the html stuff as symbols. I spent the entire day on optimizing the signature and wondering why it didnt fuckn work until I sent an email with a shorter version and looked at the source code. 9000 symbols. What the fuck google. No more computer stuff for today. Brain is #Fried

When you have to block a email address from a website providing you a great way to have a payment form for your client because they didnt implement the unsubscribe and you get spammed at every test
