This just happened:
Boss: "Hey I can't send this mail, can you take a look?"
Le Me: *looking at the logs*
Le Me: "Your mail gets a spamscore of 2007.69 of max 2000. There is a virus in your mail."
Boss: "oh."
And it was a mail which he received from somebody and wanted to forward....6 -

3. Changes password.
4. Receives mail with new password.
5. Delete account and look for another service.3 -
Had a week off, when I came back, an email :
"Dodger, can you explain me why did you change this ? I asked X and he wasn't aware you changed it"
Me : *browse through mail and find a mail from late December from X asking me to do that exact change*

One month ago. By email.
Boss: so, this client A has a problem with one of our devices and he believes that it's a bug in the software.
Me: all right then, what happens?
Boss: well, he says that the parameter P in the option menu does not changes the device's behaviour as it is supposed to. I'll forward you his mail. You will find attached an excell file with the results of his test performed with and without the parameter active.
Me: < read mail, read excell file > well, boss, his tests are performed in completely different conditions, how could he expect to infer a meaningful results from this?
Boss: damn, you are right. Send him a test plan and follow up.
Me: < send detailed test plan >
No answer in a week. Then...
Client: hi, there, I made this tests, I attached the excell with the results, can you check the software now?
Me: < read another bullshit filled excell file with none of the suggested test performed >
You know what? Just download the procedures you are using from the device and send them by mail, specifying the software version you are using so we can perform some tests here in the lab and get yo a solution asap.
No response. For a MONTH.
Super Boss: client A still has his problem, how could possibly be that it takes more than A FUCKING MONTH to solve his issue??
Me:...4 -

So the tax authorities in the Netherlands have this slogan that roughly translates to:
"We can't make it fun, but we can make it easier."
I'm not sure how this is going to be easy for me. This arrived in the mail today.
Even worse this is a fuck up from them. They are saying our company did not do it's taxes but when we log in their online portal we can see that we did them. But they are saying that they don't see it in their system.
Who build that system?
Trying to stay calm when they are claiming I own them more taxes then my company has earned in a year.
I did not have enough sleep for this drama.
By the way how about we save some trees and don't send 30 letters on 1 day.11 -
A co-worker at the city-government just chose the wrong mailing list and send an e-mail to EVERY SINGLE emlpoyee (about 20'000 people, including our police-department, hospitals, councils etc.).
Within A MINUTE hundrets of people responded to the mail by using the "reply all" button, pointing out that this mail obviously wasn't meant for them.
After another minute the same douchebags sent another mail (of course using the "reply all" button AGAIN), asking to be removed from the mailing list and stop spamming them.
Even two hours after blocking the mailing list immediately, our mail servers still are processing all those damn mails.
RIP exchange servers
RIP inbox
RIP faith in humanity

Fucking Gmail !!!! I hate you so much !!!
My mail server is fucking perfect, I have all the records in my DNS and even have a 10/10 score on mail-tester.com.
But this fucking Gmail keeps putting me the spam folder ! Why do you hate my so much ?21 -
Outlook is the shittiest mail client ever .. whenever I develop an email template it comes nicely to any other email clients... except for this shit which ruins everything..5

Seen on HackerNews, couldn't left it for myself.
Mail loop from hell: https://blog.dbrgn.ch/2012/7/...2 -
This happened via mail thread today.
Boss: we need this new brilliant feature I just made up and running asap! Top priority, it has to be done well, for my reputation is on the line!
Me: *looks at the specifics* 'kay, looks easy enough, this evening max and it will be ready. I just nees some extra info about what kind of data validations (I speak no accountant) are needed, and some other details (a total of 3 questiona).
B: Sure! Remember, it needs to be perfect, as my reputation is at stake. Call me on the phone and I'll give you the details!
M: Can't you answer via mail? Thua way both me and the other devs will have clewr guidelines
B: Just call me! Why do you need it to be written down? It's faster this way!
...Fine. I'll keep asking until you're ready to give me a written answer to my questions. No way I'll take security details via phone for something you want in production this evening. No chance in Hell I'll take responsibility for "misunderstanding" what you said on the phone. Why does it always has to be like that?8 -
Websites that send a mail to confirm me unsubscribing from their mails need a special place in hell.4
-
I was just testing the Postfix server on one of my mailers, for the hell of it.. EHLO, STARTTLS, all good. Then comes the mail submission part.
MAIL FROM test@nixmagic.com
Connection closed by foreign host.
Right after I say mail from, it just closes the connection! Is it just me or does this feel like the server says to me "fuck off"? :')18 -
My girlfriend configuring her e-mail account in the app because her phone had to be reset to factory :
-I can't figure out how to do these setting, annoying...
-Oh yeah the imap and smtp servers can be tricky, let me put that
(I Google the settings for her mail provider and put them in)
-It still doesn't work.
-Uuuh, maybe with another security setting, try it.
-This shit still doesn't work, seriously my phone is broken.
-Have you verified the e-mail address and carefully typed the password?
-Yes of course, I've tried it several time
(I take the phone and check all the parameters... During a looooong time... Until it hits me.)
-Hmm... Can you read the e-mail you've entered?
-Yeah, it's my mail, blabla@hotmail.com.
-No can you read it again please?
-It's blabla, why?
-No, can you *spell* your e-mail?
-Yeah it's B-L-A-B-L-A-@-H-O-M-A... Ow shit...
- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
It's finally happened. I've used my mail servers for about a year to give out different email addresses on my domain to things I sign up for online, and only used my "actual" email address that received all this email for the whole domain but the single one that I used outbound for private communications.
This worked well for a long time as I could see when spam comes in, where it came from by looking at the email address I designated it. Each company's email would be sent not only from an email address that they choose, but also to an email address that I choose. It allowed me to easily determine where there were problems. For example, on Freenode IRC my vhost happened to make my username@host there a valid email address. It eventually got blacklisted due to too much incoming spam as crawlers started detecting it. Another one was "nickname"@my.domain as I posted it a few times here. Got crawled as well. But it allowed me to easily blacklist each.
I'd never thought my actual outbound email address, my real one, to get crawled though. That would require the mail server of a company I explicitly communicated with to get hacked. But today that happened. I wonder whose it is, but I can't tell.
Time to make my outgoing email bound to a designated email address as well. I want to know which companies this happens to, even if they don't disclose it.4 -
All these 'We updated our privacy policy" mails remind me on how many (unnecessary) sites I am actually registered on...1
-
Holy fucking shit! What the actual fuck is this?!!!
The funny part: this is not the worst e-mail I got from them, the person who is responsible for these e-mails should have been fired 2 years ago.7 -
Conversation between my husband and myself.
H: I ordered a game for the switch last week. It was delayed by USPS, and it looks like I got a partial refund due to it being late.

H: Did you really just make a mail pun? *Snerk*
Moi: This is why we work. ♥️5 -
Clicking "forgot my password" and getting a mail with my password in clear text. Sending a mail and asking why they don't care about security. The answer I'm getting is "it's a feature, makes things easier". Yeah...3

Every dammed webmail client looks like 2005. Currently I use roundcube but it looks also very old.
Someone can prefer a good webmail client for self hosting?17 -
It happened.
It finally fucking happend, I wish it didn't, but it happened.
I was in my very first call through zoom were I didn't even speak and didn't even really need to listen.
About 1h.
Everything could have been an e-mail, of course14 -
Let’s see I suppose the most pissed off I’ve been at work would be....
Being blamed for a clients mistake when their newsletter email settings where being changed over to a new mailing system but during the change over they wanted to still send out mail using the old list. So a single endpoint was kept in place so they could send one last newsletter out after it was approved as part of the migration and they were to inform us when they were done so we could change that endpoint over.
Several months later when everyone had long forgotten about it, the client tried to send another mass mail out using the old endpoint and complained when no emails had been sent.
I was blamed for making this mistake even though management approved the fucking old endpoint to be left in place at the clients request against my concerns that someone’s going to forgot about this and I was never informed to swap it over.
I quit on the spot and walked out the door after that. -
Set up a mail server for our office using one of those all-in-one mail server installations. It would keep denying connections every few days, so me, being the inexperienced shit I was, setup a cron job to restart the server at midnight everyday. It worked and still, to this day, it still works.1
-
Hey I see that you're trying to access your account. That sucks, we don't have your phone number in our records. But that's Ok because we're going to send you the confirmation letter by snail mail...
Fucking What?
I mean, I guess that's secure... but seriously though 5-10 days until I can see what is happening with my taxes? This is insanity -
Has there ever been a single business that has benefited from the "Tell us why you wish to unsubscribe from our mailing list" feature?
The fuck do these corporate fucks expect? A 5 page thesis on why I don't want spam I didn't sign up for?9 -
Client wanted to send us e-mail addresses.
Client sent an image inside a Word document showing a list of e-mail addresses.

Recently I got an E-Mail from PayPal.de with the headline "Your account gets limited". Fun Fact: I don't have a PayPal account.
This Mail got me curious though, as it couldn't be a phishing mail, since I don't have a PayPal account in the first place, so I opened the e-mail just to get greeted by pure emptiness. It was completely empty. I thought to myself "oh no, is this some sort of new trick? Did I get infected by some sort of a weird hacky backdoor trojan already?!"
Name: PayPal.de
Original E-mail Address: NULL (never seen this before)
I then realized, that Thunderbird blocked the only content from this mail: a clickable image.
This is getting even more confusing the longer I examine this unique mail. The image is showing me a domain from a site completely unrelated from PayPal, so it was obviously no phishing, but I didn't trust this clickable image, so I looked up its hidden link to find an even more confusing redirection to not a picture upload site like the image suggests, but to a game key reselling site instead, like wtf? What was the whole point of this whole e-mail? Was this a weird try to make advertisements for more than one website? It wasn't even a ref-link or something like that. It was just weird, iunno.8 -
When your university drops the support for IMAP on their mail-server, leaving Exchange as only possible option, because apparently the thought that somebody MIGHT be using Linux in a fucking IT major is completely out of this world...7

So I set up push notifications from my Raspberry Pi to my Android phone, to know when exim sent a mail locally.
The easy part was the actual push notifications.
The more tedious part turned out to be looking for a way to send a notification for each mail.
After some research, Procmail seemed to be the only fitting tool to pass info to a command (in order to give the push notification some content so I know what's up)
In the middle of everything, I managed to fuck up exim system-wide, so mails didn't work, which was fucking great of course...
The magic receipt is this:
:0 c
| ${NOTIFY} -t "Pi mail: $SUBJECT"
Anyway, this is the result (using a test mail by mdadm + an actual degraded array I am still waiting on replacement drives for):2 -
This just came in the mail. Apparently TurboTax was bought by AOL...

Today I wrote a mail to the company to record two weeks of illness. Now, the mail started off being about my holidays in a few weeks, but I decided to write the illness mail first. Stupid me forgot to change the subject from "holidays" to "illness"... I'm so fucked. Wish me luck!2

My dad got this scammy E-Mail today...
The strange thing was, the sender and recipient were the same address, but I'll get back to that.
Unfortunately, I can't show it to you, but it said something like this:
"As you can see, I wrote this E-Mail from *YOUR* address. I have hacked your Account. Please pay me 300$ in bitcoin to this address: (address here) ..."
You get the point.
Now... my dad was pretty worried about the Account actually beeing hacked. One of his coworkers also got the same E-Mail. I told him that it's easy to fake the 'From' Header of an E-Mail, at least with the mail command on Linux. So I ssh'd into one of my Servers and sent him an E-Mail from lol@lol.de. Obviously, he didn't expect it to be that easy. Now he believes me that this is a scam and will tell his coworkers tomorrow.
From what I read in that E-Mail there was no part about recipient specific stuff, so I guess someone just wrote one text and made a simple bash Script for that... as you can see, people really do fall for this shit.
Now one question: is there a way to track down the Servers the E-Mail went through? Or is there anything one can do, apart from ignoring it?10 -
These postings on angel.co
I swear to God it's like I've uncovered a conspiracy theory.
I had been searching for a side project now that holidays are coming and I really don't wanna get bored.
Applied to a few companies. About 5 of them "responded" with an acceptance. I write them my interview timings and all that's required.
Nothing. Nothing for like a solid week and a half.
Meanwhile I applied to more companies and still the same thing.
I decided to manually mail their companies regarding the process, so that I can, preferably, move on to other ones if they have rejected the application (which they obviously hadn't)
I get mails from almost all the companies with some or the other variant of "We were waiting for your reply to proceed"
I tell them I had replied over the conversations and they said they never got a message.
Now feeling that this might be angel.co at fault. I wrote a request to look into the issue. Meanwhile I tested the system using a friend's account as a recruiter and testing myself.
Unsurprisingly it was working flawlessly.
Narrowing it down to the companies then.
I sent a document with my findings to each of the companies and pretty much 50% of them stopped with replying.
The rest confirmed that they hadn't received any mails regarding the same and they saw no mail resembling the one I tested with my friend.
Kinda confusing but I asked them to look into it.
Meanwhile mail from Angel returns saying that their system is working perfectly fine even around my region. So idk what was the problem
I got a mail 3 weeks after the first mail to the company. They had been using a utility to auto-accept/reject profile applications. This util sent a lot of mails, even for rejections, to their mailboxes, filling them.
So they decided to remove these emails automatically by marking them spam. Apparently, the interview confirmation messages also count as these emails and were automatically archived. Thus removing my responses to those companies.
Idk if this is widespread issue because only one company has responded to me yet.
I'm still livid with this shit.5 -
So this happened. Thanks for the stickers! It's pretty amazing y'all giveaway free stickers.
Keep being awesome! @dfox
I'll post some in action later. ;)4 -

Here comes the story how I became a DevRanter.
When I was young, I built an expensive gamer-machnine, so I had to crack games. I Got used to computers, so I startet an apprenticeship in IT. I finished with good grades. I left everything and everyone behind and moved in a city, found a parttime job as a PHP developer and started studying CS. After 5 years doing work as developer, studying CS, creeping around as soldier, I finally finished and graduated. After a few months working fulltime (same job), as my life began to settle down and I got bored.
A flatmate (also CS) laughed his ass off about something, then he introduced me to DevRant. It became part of my life to read DevRant, to overcome boredom. But there are not enough new Rants.. I'm f'cked. OK, I resigned my Job, and my flat and signed up for the BS in natural scinces at university in an even bigger city. I will again leave everything behind to begin a new life. Now I'm planing to freelance to pay the bills and challenge me again. Wish me luck :)
So I am beginning this new life with writing this story, how i became a dev. I klick Post, and bang! "please verify your email before ranting.. blah" I got no mail, no span, nothing. Resend.. wait.. nothing. I WAS BORED AGAIN!! FUCK YOU MAIL-SERVER, WHY CAN'T YOU SEND AN EMAIL WITHIN SECONDS OR MINUTES, WE ARE IN 21ST CENTURY AND THE INTERNET CONSISTS MAINLY OF OPTIC FIBER CABLES!!
And this is, dear DevRant community, how i become a Ranter, just then when I wanted to Post my first story.4 -

Applied for a job at Canonical.
Was waiting for an e-mail response to know if I would move up the interview process or not.
Got a standardized e-mail to evaluate their hiring methods and how fast it was.
In that standardized e-mail there was this question:
"Do you know why you didn't move up on in the application process?"
Fuck. The e-mail should have something saying "Spoiler alert".6 -

BRUV,
WTF,
SO I JUST FOUND OUT THIS:
Hostinger changed its mailservers from mx1.hostinger.com, to IMAP.hostinger.com and SMTP.HOSTINGER.COM
This means that all of the emails that I sent out for the last 2 weeks on my phone(the only place where I send out emails) has been going to fadoodle knows where?
Now that I changed on my phone the incoming and sending servers and I send out a email it appears as spam, but It dosent do that when I send it out of the web platform.
So like bruv, more digging to do...
HOSTINGER U BICH ASS FUCKING CUNTS, DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY EMAILS I NEEDED TO FORWARD BCZ OF THIS???😂
And I though people were Beeing rude or something3 -
I just met a whole new level of obnoxious scam mail: Google calendar invites. WTH. You can't even block it.7

I use yahoo email as my main email, because that's what my father used when I first created an account like 10 years ago... That was a big fucking mistake it seems...5

introductory rant
So I am new here, hi! :)
So the devRant android app does not seem to support this mail format:
user+devrant@domain
(the important part being the "+devrant" thing)
Now I waited 2 days for a confirmation mail that wouldn't arrive and was greeted with the "please confirm your fucking mail" popup every damn time.
"Okay, let's just change my mail to user@domain and deal with it", I thought. Guess what: You can't!
So I contacted the devrant team via e-mail.
And I waited.
2 days.
No answer.
Okay.
Delete account, recreate with other mail, be happy.
Don't worry, I'm not mad. It's just really fucking ironic.
Looking forward to a great community! :)5 -

TIL: Outlook now supports reactions to mails in the form of icons. Think: like/smile/cry/heart/etc.

I am now receiving fertility information about a random person in the US because they thought it would be an excellent idea to use some random mail address (my mail address) to register for a fertility site instead of their own.
For anyone interested they will be highly fertile in about 12 days. Lets see if they succeed and unregister from the service then.
For the love of God please verify mail addresses of user before registration! Please!

As you problably know, Gmail sends mails to you when you create a new gmail account. These mails are about what you can do gmail etc.
But they send 3 mails! Why? Wouldnt it just be easier to send one and have a table of contents.
Sending one mail containing all info also takes less space in the list of mails you get.
Stupid google9 -
My IT-teacher has a website. Aside from it looking like from 1980 (which is ok), he has a "security js Mail decryption":
In his page there is a <script> with a simple yet custom de/encrypt function. Then his E-Mail is an <a href="javascript:mailto:function('rubberish173848'>private email</a>. (Or something like that)
You can just run this link (open email app and read it) or use the same function and same href in the browser console and read it. It sounds so stupid.
(Yet I figured out he probably doesn't want bots to spam his mail, so maybe I am stupid)1 -

Oh and not to mention that in the no delivery report you are referring an error code which is not present on the linked troubleshoot page. Thank you once more, you piece of shit.
Should have listened to the articles about why I don't want an own mail server...15 -
When you start saying 'email' for regular irl mail and then subsequently describe it as 'irl mail' it might be time to log off...

For fucks sake apple, why must I use your mail app, when I just want to change my default mail application to Outlook... All would be fine and dandy, except in order to change I must first register a valid email account then repeat the process 30 times... FML3

Webhost (that I basically only use for email) decided to get rid of all plans they had in favour of 1 big "unlimited" (with FUP ofc) plan...
I used to pay about 3,65 a year (incl. VAT) for my plan (which had about 1250MB of storage) which was totally fine...
Good enough storage for mails.
The new plan costs me 55 euro a year (incl. VAT) and has that "unlimited" storage...
Which I don't need for a fucking mail server...
And they don't allow me to go back to my old plan >.>
Literally the only reason why I went with them 7 years ago was because they were so cheap (back when they also still hosted my website) and perfectly fit my needs >.>
Way to shoot your longest time customers in the back.
Well, time to look for an alternative T_T2 -
Did you ever had to integrate a fucking "API" that is done via mail bodies?
Fuck this shit! Who need responses about success or failure?! Guess this will take a long time to test this fucking piece of garbage... We don't get a test system, we need to test this with the production system of the other company. I hope their retarded application crashes when receiving malicious mails.
Not speaking about security, I bet everyone can send a mail to their stupid mail address and modify their data 🙈
And inside of this crap mail you also have to send the name, street and email of their company. Why do you fucking need this information?!1 -
I just fixed a bug I've been trying to fix for over 10 hours. "Email not sending in laravel notifications but sending with Mail::send". How did I fix it?
Changed "email_address" to "email" because that's what the framework was expecting.
How do I explain this to my client? 😂😂3 -
Can someone explain why the IT dept thinks that sending form mail from their website via smtp connection using a specific email account credentials (iffice365) for their domain and the ip address of the website included in the domain spf should be classed as an important security issue and we should find an alternative method of sending the form mail?3

I just stumbled across this post about signed-only mails: https://k9mail.github.io/2016/11/... (TL;DR: Signed-only mails are not worth it).
So far, I've been signing all my mails (as not that many people I know use OpenPGP, so I'm far from encrypting everything). I've got a few replies like “I can't open that attachment” and “What is that .asc file?” but I have seen it as doing my part in motivating more people to use encrypted mail with little effort.
I DDW for a bit but couldn't find any other comments on the usefulness of signed-only mail per se. Consequently, I'd like to ask you: How do you use OpenPGP?6 -

Debugging a task, that's sending emails to too many customers.
Supervisor: "Never mind, just test in production, there is a dry run flag for the tasks."
Just in case I test locally...
Flags tried:
--dryrun="TRUE" => Error, failed to send mail.
--dryrun=TRUE => Error, failed to send mail.
--dryrun="true" => Not trying to send mail.
If it's THIS PICKY a little more documentation would be nice.
And by a little more I mean: more than the task base class in a giant php monstrosity without phpdocs expecting its code to be self-documenting. -

Customer: So I have two emails and I'd like to be able to use them.
Me: Okay, I see you have both Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird...
Customer: Yeah, Thunderbird was the old one we used, we now use the Windows Live Mail, but it's always having problems.
Me: Well, Windows Live Mail isn't supported anymore, so I would recommend moving back to Thunderbird.
Customer: But that would mean I would have to get another email, right?
Me: No... *thinks for a moment* OK, imagine you have a garden hose that is connected to the main line of your house. You with me?
Customer: I guess...
Me: So the connection from your house is your email - or at least the server out on the internet. Now on the other end you have a hose splitter, and it splits off into two other hoses. Still with me?
Customer: Yeah...
Me: So on the end of the other two hoses you have two spray nozzles; one for each hose. Now one nozzle is from company A and the other is from company B. Both nozzles share some spray types on the heads, but there are a few heads on A that B doesn't have and vice versa.
Customer: OK...
Me: Those spray heads are Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird. They receive your mail from the same place, like the water, but they have different features. Does that makes sense?
Customer: I suppose.5 -

OK, customer runs a manufacturing business. A local web developer solicits them, convinces them to let him move their website onto his system.
He then promptly disappears. No phone calls, no e-mail, no anything for 3 months by the time they called me looking to fix things.
Since we have no access to FTP or anything except the OpenCart admin, we agree to a basic rebuild of the website and a redeployment onto a SiteGround account that they control. Dev process goes smoothly, customer is happy.
Come time to launch and...naturally, the previous dev pointed the nameservers to his account, which will not allow the business to make changes because they aren't the account owner.
"We can work around this," I figure, since all we *really* need to do is change the A records, and we can leave the e-mail set up as it is (hopefully).
Well, that hopefully is kind of true—turns out instead of being set up in GoDaddy (where the domain is registered) it's set up in Gmail—and the customer doesn't know which account is the Google admin account associated with the domain. For all we know it could be the previous developer—again.
I've been able to dig up the A, MX, and TXT records, and I'm seeing references to dreamhost.com (where the nameservers are at) in the SPF data in the TXT records. Am I going to have to update these records, or will it be safe to just leave them as they are and simply update the A record as originally planned?6 -
You know it's bad when you've planned a word addon thats sole purpose is to do mail merges.
I've done guides and shown people how to do them. Still comes to me the bloke in IT to do a simple mail merge because googling it is too complex.
It's going to be epic it will hold their hands let them know they are bestest cupcake out of the whole batch.
The progress bar will be a rainbow and each button will sparkle. Because If I get taken of my dev work to do another fucking mail merge I'll probably quit on the spot.
And I do not have the savings readily available to hold me over until I got a new job.

This day is off to no good... :(
First l forget the ssh port to my mail server and now i realized that tomorrow is the last day the server is up. I need to add more credits but i literally have 2 cents on my bank account :(1 -
Most illogical thing I had to do today.
Today i received an email from bank to fill an attached form to receive payment from a foreign country.
Face palm no 1: The form they sent was in doc format. The layout of the form was all fucked up.
So I downloaded a proper PDF version of the same form from the bank's website.
I filled the form on my computer and signed it using my pen tablet and emailed it back.
Few hours later somone from bank calls me.
Facepalm no 2: He sounded frantic. He asked me to physically mail the "orginal" of the form!
He was thinking I took the printout of the form, filled it by hand and send the scanned copy.
I told him I filled everything digitally so there is no "original" form in physical sense.
Also since I emailed him the form, it doesn't make any sense at all, for me to take the printout of the digital version and mail it to him when he could just open his email and take a print out.
He didn't seem to grasp that idea at all.
Finally, I agreed to go to a branch nearby me and got him speak to an employee there over my phone and they said they will courier the printout to him.
I don't know if the people there are dumb or I am too smart.3 -

Sent them another reply that I'm happy that they know the answer and that they should apply it to their setup as my mail setup is correct. Got e-mail with pdf. What a consultant's gotta do for his timesheet when homeworking:
1. Fill in Excel, send to self by mail (corporate bitlocker protected PC on proxy that doesnt allow local printer connections)
2. Go upstairs to secondary Windows PC (no Excel on main Linux laptop) and open mail
3. Send to printer, wait 10 minutes (old printer needs to 'warm up')
4. Sign timesheet and go back upstairs
5. Scan signed version, send mail to self.
6. Open personal mail on corporate laptop, send to manager. (can't send directly from personal mail)
7. Wait to get back signed timesheet from manager
8. Finally, send to own admin dept.

He said: "It's cumbersome for me to access my e-mail, could you take a screenshot of it to me and send it on Skype?".

Employer: It works. I can send and receive mails with Outlook.
Me: Ok, I will check my code.
Employer: It has to work. I even checked the informations I send you about the mail server settings and they are the correct ones.
I've tried every configuration which could be possible and rewrote my code. It wont work, so I tried to use my own mail server and it worked immediately.
Me: I've tried everything but I can't connect to your mail server. After a while I've tried to connect to my own and it works just fine.
Employer: oh... -
After paying 3 years in advance to my host, some emails of the owner of a project I work with (very small thing, but still..) began to disappear. She doesn't receive the messages and neither the person who sends receives a error message. I've contacted them but no one could found out what is happening.
In this meantime, I had to change the PHP version (there is a version control in their cPanel). Just after changing, Mysqli and PDO stopped working. It took about 4 to 5 days for them to fixed it (shared host).
Back to today, I needed to send and receive lots of emails of this project. As we are losing tons of legitimates mails, we started to cc our personal emails to avoid misscomunication (deadlines are very important). Of course, exactly today, Microsoft's mail stopped accepting any emails of our host IP, as it appears someone has an Trojan hosted there. Of course, except me, everyone else personal email address are Outlook.com.4 -
Mesosphere sold every e-mail who registered with them to Tech Global Leads. Either that or Tech Global Leads stole a list of leaked e-mail addresses. Any disposable e-mail address service:
"FIGHT THE SPAM"
"THANK YOU FIGHTING THE SPAM"
"YOU DID GOOD BY FIGHTING SPAM"
The users of disposable e-mail address:
*creates another spam account*
*creates another multiaccount in order to exploit a system*
Companies actually fighting spam:
Now there is even more spam to fight against. (which is not good)
About 2/3 of the accounts created daily on our website are spam accounts. We have to waste our time with this shit instead of actually improving our services. Since we do not track IP-Addresses and there are countless amounts of disposable e-mail domains AND there is still the option to create countless spam e-mail addresses within legit e-mail providers, there is no easy way of stopping this madness.
"Fight the Spam", you could start by deleting your shitty service or at least give us a list of all the domains you're using, srsly. -

Set up customer's e-mail addresses in Plesk. Worked fine in testing, all goes well for about a week.
Then their e-mail stops delivering. Stuff arrives, but outgoing messages either bounce or fail silently altogether. I contact 1&1 support, and they help set up SPF and DMARC on the domain, and then we wait and see once the DNS changes propagate.
Well, something about these changes caused my business e-mail (on a separate server) to exhibit the same problem now, when it had been working for 3 years without issue prior to that.
Check back with 1&1 2 days later to see why the first one isn't working; we verified all of the records across everything, tweaked a couple other things (like setting the full hostname in Plesk to mail.servername.com), and waited 2 more days.
Still having the same problem on both accounts. did a bit of looking up the issue for Plesk and found that in order for SPF/DMARC to work, they have to be activated on the Plesk-wide mail settings, and then again individually at the domain level.
Made these changes on my business e-mail's server and domain and it fixed the problem!
Made the same changes on the server with the customer's domain and...still seeing the same issue.
Have checked all settings between them and they're identical. All the appropriate DNS records are in place. I'm kind of at a loss for waht else to check at this point.1 -

Alright, here we go again with issues on Vector. (My home server that we're transitioning our website, infiniit.co to.)
I'm trying to get the email server up and running. It's a PITA which is evident by the fact we are now on attempt number 6, at least on the 6th VM now. At this time I'm installing a Ubuntu 16.04 LTS ISO and I'll be installing IRedMail unless someone else has any recommendations. So far I've had nothing but problems doing it manually, installing dovecot and postfix, trying to get them linked, and then the last failure was sending a test email locally.
Also, a continuation of the last issue that I had here, now my VMRC isn't working anymore for some reason. Ive forwarded websockets but it won't work unless I use local IP since everything (except direct local IP connections) is running through an apache VHost setup... My head hurts. Help pls.2 -

For my Linux brethren out there, what do you use to manage email/calendar? I've heard G-Suite used a lot, but I'd rather have native software than a dedicated browser window.
Thanks ahead of time.4 -
I gotta write a quick mailing solution for an email discussion list, given a budget, so i'm like, ok, cool, let me check out sendgrid api, etc, whatever, right?
Wrong! 10000 members, with an email volume of about 100 messages per member, per day, meaning you're sending at least 100*1000 msgs/day ... or 3 million messages a month!
With most services you're looking at like $2,000 right there. My budget was $100.
So.... wtf. How would you use an api to host a discussion list... seems impractical?
I see no discussion about it, no service addresses it, nothing.
Email discussion list. Can someone point me in the right direction?5 -

Some developers incopetence can be limitless. I found e-shop which uses creative but totally silly way of integrating with e-mails. See my last rant (they send e-mail with my 'From' to themselves). As I sent them delivery report (I have SPF enabled) and wrote them what is wrong, they apologized when I came to pick up the goods and were glad that I forwarded the report (otherwise my order would be quite delayed). But hey, everything is fine, they are working on new e-shop. I said great, hopefully it wouldn't be this messed up. And I was told that yeah, the new one will block .net and .com addresses right away. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? How can somebody use their incompetence as a reason to screw up even more! So next time, I'll probably use my local e-mail with SPF enabled to tech them to blick all e-mails and do stuff properly.

Why the fuck do sites in 2023 still not verify email addresses are owned by the user before allowing you to register!?
Every time I get a welcome to x you have successfully registered to site y mail I get mildly frustrated and I don't like it!
And why are people using random mail addresses from unknown people to register. Just use one of these temp mail services if the site won't check that you're the owner of said address it sure as hell won't check if it is from a legitimate mail server. And if it does just use a burner mail you fool!2 -

When a process works better than expected but you were hoping that it only works as expected...
USPS (mail service) is known for being crappy. I couldn't submit a temp address change via web bc I couldn't type my apartment unit # into their web form but a mail hold request where u manually just enter any address worked.
So I was at my parents for a month, just got back yesterday.
I put in a mail hold n before I left my apt, but expired on like Wednesday.
So when I got back Saturday, I expected a huge mail dump but I couldn't find any mail...
However last week I went to the local office and put in a Temp change of address bc there was a chance I'd go just to get the mail but not stay for other reasons...
Got confirm letter that it would be effective like Saturday.
I'm thinking it won't cover the mail held during the mail hold.
Well apparently it did... So now all my mail is at my parents but I'm back in my apt... -

There was a good old barber in Mumbai. One day a florist goes to him for a haircut. After the cut, he goes to pay the barber and the barber replies:
I am sorry, I cannot accept money from you; I am doing a Community Service.
Florist is happy and leaves the shop.
The next morning when the Barber goes to open his shop, there is a "Thank You" Card and a dozen roses waiting at his door.
A Confectioner goes for a haircut and he also goes to pay the barber. He again refuses to take the money.
The Confectioner is happy and leaves the shop.
The next morning when the Barber goes to open his shop, there is another "Thank you" Card and a dozen Cakes waiting at his door.
