Javascript/React question of the day: Habe you used Storybook.js? How was it?
Would you recommend using it in a medium sized side project? (I'm also considering simply using docz)3 -
Nobody:
Senior frontend Dev at my company: "microservices best thing ever"
Also him: "Relational databases gonna die"
Also him (talking to the DB team): "You're gonna dissapear, Mongo is the future"
Me: "Eh... Dude, Mongo is still a database.."
Him: "Microservices"
Send help...27 -
What's your opinion on TypeScript? I'm having a hard time figuring out if it's worth using for a React side project5

How many of you actually work on projects on your free time?
I'm thinking of building a common UI pulling lfg projects from Devrant collabs, Twitter, Reddit, etc... But I have no idea if it's something people would want.
Smash that subscribe button and let me know what you think on the comment section
lfg = looking for group7 -
PHP is the best framework for VSCode.
Now that I have your attention... Have you written a technical article? I'm thinking of writing something frontend related but not sure what topic to pick.
I'd love to hear about your experience and any tips you may have :D11 -
Don't you have when a job offer expects people to know certain specific libraries?
And I'm not talking about frameworks or something essential for a certain field (Like Web3js for blockchain).
I once lost a job opportunity because I didn't have experience working with a specific UI toolkit for Vue so I took longer doing certain things because I needed to check the docs...
I mean, I understand companies want people with experience but I feel it's stupid to expect us to know every single library for every use case imaginable from the beginning. Most of the time, it's stuff we can learn very quickly7 -

How easy is to get fired from a Dev job? 😛 I'm afraid of that happening every time I introduce a bug lol4 -
Honest question, when would you host your website using something like AWS vs a bare bones server like Digital Ocean.L (Taking into account DevRant itself is hosted on DO)
I'm a noob on this :p2 -
Honest question:
I did a project and delivered it, but my boss did 4 commits after that. Without giving me any feedback.
They were small things: using a different library (just one line), and removing one debug line that caused a bug.
Should I ask him for feedback or just tell him "Hey I saw your commits, I'll make sure to use the new library and never let any debug line in"?7 -
Just released the side project that made me join programming! :) It's been about five months and I learned a lot: PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Handlebars, Jquery, Git (terminal), I even started building a RestAPI. Its been an amazing journey, and I didn't alone! I met other Devs (now good friends) over the Internet and we did it together :) Thanks to everyone on DevRant for being such a great community!
If you want to take a look at the site is: projectgroupie.com
It's a website to find new projects you like and join them! So if you're a developer and you wanna make a blog, you post your project on PG asking for some designer to help you and if someone like it, he can join! :)
I hope you enjoy it and any feedback is welcome!25 -
What universities do you recommend to study CS in France? I need to have three options. Any help is appreciated :)6
-
Yeah Elementary OS, you look cool and all of that but come on, you could've at least IMPROVED THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR WEBSITE SO I'D BE ABLE TO START DOWNLOADING YOU, anyway, keep up the good work.2

Going back to Chrome! :( The reason: I was for like 1 hour trying to figure out why the 'src' of a image wasn't getting changed by JavaScript, then BOOM, SO explains me that Firebug doesn't update those kind of changes :/ That and the fact you can't edit your external js from the browser... That was your last chance Firefox :(2

I needed to do a fresh install of Ubuntu again because it wouldn't start. I'm starting to feel like a real Ubuntu user
-
Why Unity, why did you decide to need a graphic card from 3080 to run smoothly?!?! Even in low graphics configuration...3
-
Hey guys! I'm moving to France next year to study, but I'll starve if I don't get a job :p And maybe it'd be difficult to get one when I get there. Hence, what would you recommend to do? Is there any place online you could recommend to get a job? (I know PHP, JS but eager to start learning other languages). Thanks :)7

That moment when you're working on a website and all of the sudden the site (on localhost) stops working, you don't understand why, and then you realize you're offline :/, your site uses Jquery for everything (And because you're lazy, you didn't downloaded it... and you never will).1
