Okay ... So I was asked by my friend .. why do you put a hashtag infront of C ... It should be #C right?
I told him dude .. the sharper part should always come at the end ...9 -
Had devRant installed for a while now and finally have something worth sharing.
This happened in my last Python lab at uni:
Me: *Working away at this week's assignment*
Dude next to me: You know last week's assignment?
Me: Yes?
Dude: Did you test you solutions to the exercises?
Me: Yes
Dude: Oh, I didn't. Do you think I'll lose marks?
Me: Yes
I can only hope I'm not forced to work with this guy on group assignments...10 -
The startup i work in has such a dynamic environment that their monthly milestones get changed every hour!

Can anyone relate to the fact that before you disturb your co-worker with an issue you should ATLEAST try fucking google?
Not to mention the documentation, stackoverflow, msdn, forums. Hell, once, I found the answer I needed on a freaking bakery forum.10 -
<This is my first rant, though I've been spectating in readonly mode (ie, without an account) for a while now./>
*Programs all day Saturday adding innumerable lines of code to a new project*
*Builds and runs project*
*Everything not only compiles, but the app works flawlessly*
*Faints*5 -
Every morning when I'm urge to sh*t I always hold it in when possible. This way I always bring it to office and let company pay me for it ^^.
Well, what do you think I'm doing while posting this rant? :D18 -
At a game dev class. Class starts and everyone is already doing something and I don't know what. I hear the some guy telling us about what to do with those "assets he sent us". Apparently everyone got a mail with the assets we'll be using and an instruction video for the day. Everyone but me, that is. I call the guy over and I tell him I didn't get the email. "Well why didn't you get the email?" HOW THE FUCK SHOULD I KNOW? You didn't tell us we'd be getting one so I couldn't exactly tell you to resend it. So now I'm just sitting here watching the rest of them work awkwardly...(first rant btw)4

Anyone else sick of all the whining about college on here? It’s a CS degree. They are going to teach you science. Not to mention that Stack Overflow did a survey in 2015 and found that nearly half the developers didn’t have degrees. If you’re so much smarter than your professors then you should have no problem finding a job. Of course, if you’re lucky enough to not have to pay for school; you should just be thankful that you’re a step up in going for management positions and shut up. On the other hand, if you’re paying (going into debt) for school; then maybe you should take a step off the safe and well-trodden path and put a little faith in yourself. There is an abundance of free training online. I thought devs were supposed to be free-spirited rebels. Didn’t any of you see ‘Hackers’?9

New computer! I named it P.E.A.C.H. which is supposed to be an acronym, but I couldn't find a satisfying meaning.
Mind the stickers. I'd love to put a devRant sticker there too.

I was at a company for almost 5 years (my first job too). Got fired a few months ago by my mentor/the lead dev who was there for about 3 - 3 1/2 years of my time there. He left for better opportunities, he knew the company was pretty shitty to work for. He comes back (why???) and fires me about 1-2 months after his return.
Reason why, I'm unhealthy for the company and the company is unhealthy for me (not because I'm a bad dev, cool I guess). I don't disagree (a lot happened while he was gone, but he doesn't really know what happened) but this happens after I have a "discussion" with him about how I don't know how to prioritize my work anymore with new policies regarding billables and pms and management pushing me in multiple directions in regards to what I should be working on. (There's more to this but I'm trying to finish this rant eventually.)
I'm not surprised but I'm pissed at the company for never really improving and I'm pissed at him for drinking the kool-aid so to speak.
I want this company to fail. I'm surprised it hasn't. The place was a shit show when it came to the Dev department and my old mentors return didn't help much either.
I should get over it and move on but this place was like a toxic relationship I couldn't bring myself to leave (as much as I wanted to leave and knew I should). And there's so much to unpack with this place.
I'm hoping dev rant can be a good place to unpack the shit I dealt with there over the years so I don't burden my friends and family with my thoughts.
So yeah, hey ya'll and welcome to my rant(s).4 -
Hello DevRant! Time for my first rant. As the saying goes: Everyone should put his own house in order first. So why not rant about myself before i rant about others...
Dear past self next time be less an idiot and enter a database into the persistence.xml wich actually exisist so i don't waste a fucking hour or something like that, for looking what's wrong with my JDBC driver....
Learning something new can suck sometimes if you realize that you made a dumb mistake which prevents you from progress. -
After two days i just had to create an account. so glad a collegue of mine showed me devRant. Well, time to continue my beginner Python course.

Why is it that when you are looking for a method to do what you need and manage to find it, it is deprecated?2 -
I have setup site wide Google analytics events since June and the product manager only ever looks at the pageviews. I don't think he understand what a funnel even is.
Each day I hear about him wanting to increase the customers to come on our site and then do nothing about it. At least LOOK AT THE DATA
(this isn't my first rant. I had to delete the other account because it is easy to find me by the other username)16 -
One developer got a code and had to add new feature so he writes new function in similar way that arleady written one. Pass the code to next guy.
Next guy: why did u write this function like that?
First guy: Coz one was arleady written that way
N: but it was written wrong
F: ...so now 2 are written wrong (no he will not fix it 😂😂)1 -
That awesome moment when your code passes all the test cases 😁
Anyone else likes competitive coding??1 -
Spent the whole day trying to help setup the environment for a colleague. In the end of it all... The whole day went off without any actual productivity. Zero progress on the tasks I have in hand...And then I discovered devRant... Some things happen for a reason...

Hi guys, I've just downloaded Firefox Quantum for Fedora 26, and I've seen that it has the same problem as always on multimedia "players" of Twitter.
Do you know how to play those videos? I've seen that the codec "x264" is not native on Firefox, but I need some help.
BTW that's my first Rant <34 -
I was asked to fix a bug delaying the app's email notification. When I opened the notification code file, I saw this comment previous developer wrote, it goes like
-----*This code works 70% of the time, if I try to change anything, the whole profile breaks. Please do not touch this code!. It does not worth the try*-----
Now I don't know what to do😂😂 -
Fixed a jenkins crumb issue which my project is facing for past 6 months. Jenkins guy keep sending the crumb from his personal browser whereas we need to request it from our script.7

So we have to do a final project for a course in groups of four people. The project's about multimodal user interfaces and physical computing. Apparently they decided to randomly assign the groups. No biggie, I thought. So once we got in touch with each other, it turns out the three other people had a lot in common.
1. "I'd prefer to take care of the design and visual stuff, coding isn't really my strength"
2. "I don't know python, but we can use it as long as I don't have to touch the codebase"
3. "Do we have to use git? It was so hard the last time."
Come one, you're 3rd/4th year students with quite a lot of studies in java/scala, how hard can it be to grasp the basics of python.
It's gonna be long two weeks... Oh well, it's a learning experience.1 -
Sitting in a lecture where the lecture is pro-android and completely clueless on what goes on behind the scene.

If I manage to complete my current project as intended then it will be my most successful project so far

So far in my IT class, we have been going through alot of boring html and css. I am so looking forward starting to use php, and getting into the backend development. What do you guys like the most? Frontend or backend?9
