My wife = Best wife
Her: Is that the motherboard and CPU you wanted?
Me: Yes, you get alot of power for the money (Ryzen 7 1800)
Her: Alright, you should order thoose things next week if they are not on sale this friday33 -
Finally finished my AMD Watercooled build 🤤
Now my code can run cooler 😂
CPU - Ryzen 3900X - stock
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 32 GB 3600 Mhz
Mobo - Asus ROG Crosshair Formula VIII
GPU - MSI GTX 1080ti 11GB GDDR520 -
*Haxk20 slaps himself to check if he isnt dreaming.* You will see why.
So i go to twitch sometimes. And you know they sometimes have giveaways. Like you say yeah sure you cant win.
So there was giveaway for Ryzen 7 3700X.
I mean sure why not enter.
Days go past and im like IDK when they are rolling it.
So i join today on their stream just to be welcomed by "HERE HE IS" GG MATE.
WTF is happening i think.
So they explained that i won the giveaway and that they will be sending it my way very soon. Now if thats not crazy IDK what is.
And thats not the only thing that happened today. Sadly i cant talk about that. Lets just say that made my day and i officially made it best day of my life. And now this. Im officially saying it. BEST DAY OF MY FUCKING LIFE.23 -
I just looked at CPU sales this year. Now damn.
AMD 2:1 Intel
AMD 69% and intel 31%
Now my classmates will finally shut the fuck up about Intel beign the best deal.
We all know AMD is best deal for the buck.
Some people are just Intel fan boys. Some are AMD fan boys. Sure i like AMD because they put everything open-source. But that doesnt change that AMD has sold 1/3 more CPUs then intel while Intel actually released new CPUs 2 months ago and AMD didnt and people still buy more AMD CPUs.
AMD good fucking job you did there. Congrats.
Lets destroy Intel totally with Ryzen 3.
What a time to be alive !77 -
Today, I dropped my 5900x while cleaning the computer. It's dead. pins got bent and one pin got loose.
I feel like crying... please send prayers and thoughts.
R.I.P AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 5900x 12 Cores 24 Threads 70 MB Cache 3.7 GHz up to 4.8 GHz. You will be missed.17 -
GAHHHHHHHHHH! Damn USPS!!! Privatize them already! Stolen is more like it. It was a Gigabyte Aorus X470 Mobo, an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X CPU, and 16GB of memory. The postal service is a bloated, unresponsive, government run trainwreck. If people would just stop using them, they would shrivel up and blow away. ARRGH!!! 🔥☠️🔥☠️🔥29

I did it: I built up another PC identical to my machine (https://devrant.com/rants/2923002/...) for my SO and installed Linux Mint for her, too. That had been my primary motive for an easy and stable distro in the first place.
Now that didn't come out of the blue. We were discussing the end of Win 7 already two years ago where I brought up my concerns with Win 10 - mainly the forced, lousy updates and the integrated spyware, and that I was considering Linux as way out.
I had expected quite some pushback because she had been exclusively on Windows since the 90s. However, I didn't sell Linux as upgrade. It's just that Win 7 is over, progress under Windows as well, and we're in damage control mode. Went down pretty well.
Fast forward three weeks - remember, first time Linux user and no IT-geek:
- it just works, including web, videos, and music.
- she likes Cinnamon.
- nice desktop themes.
- Redshift is as good as f.lux.
- software installation is just like an app store.
- updates work via an easy tray icon.
- quote: "Linux is great!"
- given this alternative, she doesn't understand why people willingly put up with Win 10.
- no drive letters: already forgotten.
- popcorn for upcoming Win 10 disaster stories.
- why do Windows updates take that long?
- why does Windows need to reboot for every update?
- why does Windows hang in that update boot screen for so long?
I'm impressed that Linux has come so far that it's suitable for end users. Next in line is her father who wants to try Linux, but that will be a story for tomorrow.35 -
I realized this week that my CPU is almost 12 years old!
It's an AMD FX-8150 8core @3.6 (recently overclocked to 4ghz). It's still a good chip for my needs, but eep. I had no idea I bought it that long ago.
I really want to replace it, but that would require a new mobo, too. which I suppose wouldn't be a bad thing...
------
Unpopular onion:
AMD was comparable to (and occasionally better than) Intel before, but now? Ever since they bought ATI, they've just spiraled: virtually everything they've produced has lagged behind.
However: the Ryzen seems to break this trend, so maybe there's hope yet?undefined ryzen anachronism much? cpu intel seriously though: gtx970ssc + amd8150? 8150 unpopular onion he's a dorky one outmoded tech amd11 -
What did we buy ?
Ryzen 9 and Radeon 6800 XT
What are we playing ?
Open TDD and factorio.
Yep, Can confirm, no lags.9 -
Finally getting some upgrades for our office workstations!!
My work-pc still rocks 3rd gen core i7 with -40% performance loss because of spectre/meltdown patches and 1600 mhz ram. Its been a huge pain in the ass. Building unreal engine from source literally takes a day, while on my home Ryzen 5 it takes an our.
Ryzen 7/9 babyyy!!!
(I might even be able to talk them into a threadripper, wish me luck 😀)4 -
Built my 1st ryzen 7 2700 desktop with RTX2070 using Black Friday deal. Also got a free copy of battlefield 👍25
-
Intel: our new 12th gen CPU beats Ryzen in gaming!
Also Intel: benchmarks on a buggy version of Windows 11 that takes a big performance hit on Ryzen.
Yeah, Intel... you and your benchmarks. It's just so ridiculous.12 -
New computer! I named it P.E.A.C.H. which is supposed to be an acronym, but I couldn't find a satisfying meaning.
Mind the stickers. I'd love to put a devRant sticker there too.

With the dual boot and my MacBook Pro I cover Windows, Linux and MacOS.20 -
I finally finished building my desktop to the specs I want!
I bought NZXT's Nuka-Cola themed case & mobo cover when they were announced. I've been planning this build for a while, but:
My laptop fell off a bench (while in my backpack) a couple months ago and the screen broke, so I bought this nice CHG70 from Samsung and put on top of it. That worked fine for a while, but within a couple weeks that laptop also stopped sending a display signal.
Having already dropped a lot of money on the monitor of my dreams and not being able to bear returning it after having it in front of me, I decided, Fuck It; I'll just build the whole PC I've been planning on right now.
Except, I wasn't ready. Had to start out with a Ryzen 2400g. Then got an RX580 on sale for $200. This week was when I swapped the Gigabyte B350M DS3H & 2400g for NZXT N7 Z370 & i7 8700k18 -
Just got a new work laptop last week. An upgrade from a crappy consumer grade piece of shit to a proper business grade 8c/16t laptop feels good.
Also Fedora.15 -
Hello World!
Migrating to my first Thinkpad (E585), something that I've wanted to do for a long time. I've heard a lot of great things and I wanted that sweeeet performance boost over my budget craptop (partially pictured).
> Ryzen 5 2500U
> RX Vega 8 integrated
> 8GB DDR4
> 256GB NVMe
> It's a thinkpad
> Runs Gentoo Linux and I swear I've spent the entire weekend learning and configuring it (my first time)15 -
Ending AMD E3.
Ryzen 9 3950X:
16 cores
32 threads
4.7 Ghz
105W
For 749$ (Intel CPU is like 1,5K$ i think)
Radeon RX 5750XT
RTX2070 + ~10 fps for 459$
Or the 50 aniversary for 499$
Not bad at all.2 -

The office PCs are finally done 😌 Real beauties I think! 😊
Built 3 of them today with each the same parts:
- Ryzen 7 2700X
- Asus B450 Plus
- 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB RAM
- M.2 Samsung 970 500GB SSD
- RX 570 8GB Armor Edition
- Bequiet CM 600W PSU
- NZXT H500 Case
- Riing 12 coolers12 -
From Sarah Connor Chronicles, 2008: "They used to think that 12 nanometer scale was impossible. The circuits are so tiny, you're all but in the quantum realm. It's the most sophisticated processor on earth. If you could take your memories, your consciousness, everything that makes you a person, turn it into pure data, and download it onto a machine, that chip could run it."
I'm watching the DVD on a quadcore Ryzen APU that is built in 12nm, and it was already outdated when I bought it last year. I guess I better download myself to my laptop because that's a 7nm Ryzen.16 -
I am building a PC for my first time and thought about every step more than twice. This is going to be my build:
Processor: AMD Ryzen™ 7 2700
Mainboard: X370
RAM: Corsair DIMM 8 GB DDR4-2400
Video card: Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
SSD: Samsung 960 EVO 250 GB
HDD: Seagate ST1000DM010 1 TB
PSU: PURE POWER 10 | 300W
Case: Aerocool Cylon RGB Midi-Tower - black
What are your opinions on this build?61 -
After seeing this "old" picture I want to let know at the guyz who are in love with AMD that before Ryzen(s) I was able to cook my fuckin' breakfast's eggs on their fuckin' CPUs.
Big mistakes brings to great solutions and shut up the fuck up AMD, probably your core code is full of vulnerabilities but no one cares about your ultra threads architecture.22 -
Takes forever. Finally completed the build. Got the cooler from newegg, which shipped from Taiwan.16
-
10 yrs of saving for this new build. Ryzen 5 2600, AMD RX 5500xt, 32GB DDR3-3000, all in a case built like a fucking tank. So many payouts coming in all at once... did my luck really flip?18
-
Haxk20 starts saving up for Ryzen 9 3950X.
Intel 9990KS is pretty much dead against 3950X.
Im not even joking. Like WAT ? HOW THE FUCK AMD ????????
TDP is lower. Temps are lower then 3900X and that has 4 lesser cores.
Sacrifice to get there ? NONE.
Its just huge voltage tuning that they did to get there.
Sure Intel still beats AMD in gaming in some games but you have to understand that not many games are optimized for AMD sadly. Many engines are just designed for Intel still.
But im sure this beast of an CPU is about to change that because even games are intel optimized the most FPS drop seen in game is 5FPS from 9990KS. Just WOW.
I really need start saving up as its 750$. Sure a lot for desktop CPU but its fucking 16 core and 32 threads beast at 4.7Ghz.
Sure im AMD fan all the way but you must agree that what they did here is just beyond fucking amazing. And if Intel doesnt go 7nm very soon they are going to be in BIG trouble because AMD is surely just few steps from 5nm at which point intel is just F up.10 -
Terrible Dutch (!dev) tech pun I just came up with: (posted it earlier under the rant section but removed it due to that)
Wat moet een AMD CPU doen als'ie op vakantie gaat?
Ryzen.11 -
*/Fucking angry rant about ACER comming/*
SOooooo dear ACER. You fucking stupid idiots who cant write a proper BIOS even.
You sell a gaming laptop that has Ryzen 5 2500U and limit the clocks to 1.6Ghz without AC power ?
OK for battery life but damn give me the option to disable it.
Ohhhh yeah you deny you have advanced menu in BIOS that is locked away from users. For some fucking reason.
Oh yeah they also say its for battery life which is idiotic reason because they dont limit Intel CPUs at all and they can run at max clocks even on battery.
Sooooo dear ACER. Dont expect me buying next laptop from you because i will better buy it from some other OEM like Dell that does a proper job on BIOS and they at least wrote a proper IOMMU groups and not like you fucking idiots so that we have to debug the kernel and make workarounds in linux because of your laziness. I don want to see the source code of windows drivers because im sure that its bug on bug on bug and wrote totally terrible.
ACER YOU ARE TOTAL IDIOTS. (Except few people there who actually know something and are willing to fix it but they cant because Boss doesnt allow it)7 -
So i had issues always with lagging GNOME on amd ryzen raven ridge. Just now i looked at grub config and what in the world is that ?
intel-ucode.img ?????
Who the fuck told you to do so ?
Installed amd-ucode and uninstalled intel shit. And what the hell ?
Never have i seen such a smooth GNOME animations. And i mean never. This is just amazing. IDK why it used intel ucode but to all people here. running raven ridge or just any AMD cpu SWITCH TO AMD-UCODE.3 -
How ryzen 5 2500U works:
CPU: I want power because im running at full speed.
GPU: But i need power too because im running fucking GNOME.
*/Fight starts and GPU always wins and CPU clocks down to 2.90Ghz./*
So dear Acer maybe next time do some fucking tests running CPU at full speed because as i see it 15W isnt enough for both of them.
Increasing TDP to 25W takes it to god level.
CPU has no issue running at 3.07Ghz at GPU usage.
So please check you fucking shit.
As its kind of sketchy solution to increase the TDP and while AMD states that running it at 25W is normal as some OEMs use it normally at 25W it isnt the best to edit ACPI tables to make it like that.
Im waiting for ASUS to release their FX505 or what ever the laptop is named with Ryzen 5 3550H and RX560X.
Im gonna most likely sell this one and buy the other one as that 30W TDP makes much much more sense.20 -
Got a Radeon RX 570 to complete my light gaming and rendering setup. This is easily the most powerful GPU I have ever owned, super hyped to try out all my games on this now. Works great after it crashed under Linux a few times for god knows what reasons but hey, not disappointed at all so far.
All AMD setup here (Ryzen + Radeon), feels good to be back on AMD after a long Intel/Nvidia stint.10 -
So as many may know. I have Ryzen 5 laptop with VEGA 8 iGPU and dGPU RX560X.
Lets cut straight to the point ay ?
A guy at feral interactive saw a bug in memory managment in RADV driver in case of APUs.
When he fixed it he was greeted by 30% fps boost to all games.
Not only that those APUs are already heck powerful. They are now even more powerful on Vulkan. This is fucking crazy.15 -
So i started playing with fire today.
I have ryzen 5 2500U (This is Haxk20 rant if you havent already figured that out by that im playing with fire) and well its fucking 15W CPU.
I mean thats great and all but ffs 15W ?????????
I saw this CPU run with 25W in other laptops.
So i started browsing for answer and what a fucking suprise to nobody somebody already found a way to make it 25W.
The fire in this story is ACPI tables BTW.
So yeah they limit the CPU to 15W in ACPI tables so that it doesnt generate too much heat. But as my laptop can cool this CPU no issue i want to make it 30W.
Why ????
Well this CPU started having a weird issue that it went to 2.9 or even lower on load after few seconds of full load.
Normal user would think its thermal throttling but i know thats not the case as its not hitting 70C.
So whats wrong ?
It doesnt have power needed to run at that speed for long time.
IDK why it had the power before and IDC TBH.
When loading the custom ACPI table via some fucking bootloader the CPU goes to 3.07 and stays there.
AWESOME.
But as i dont want to carry with me boot usb to load the bootloader and boot it from there i want to build the ACPI table into kernel. (Doing that right now)
Ohhhh and dont worry this is temporary only as i want to see how much performance i can get from it. I seen that it could give 50% more FPS on iGPU.
Also i will be getting laptop with Ryzen 5 3550H and RX560X and selling this one. IDK when that will happen but i will surely do it since the new laptop is much better and in the same price range.4 -
Got my new PC up and running!
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3400G (APU)
Cooler: Scythe Mugen 5
Mobo: Asus B450-F Gaming ROG Strix
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2x16GB
SSD: Samsung 2TB M2 Evo 860
DVD: Plextor PX-891SAF
PSU: Bequiet Straight Power 11 550W
Case: Lancool PC-K58 (10 years old)
Case fans: Bequiet Silentwings 3 140mm (front), Silentwings 2 120mm (back)
The cooler is massively oversized for the CPU, but perfect for a silent PC.
OS: Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon
As much as I loved Win 7, but it's over, and Win 10 just isn't acceptable.22 -
I spent few hours trying to figure out why the fuck my Ryzen 5 based notebook isnt turbo boosting at all. And well after few fucking hours figured that Ryzen CPUs are turbo boosting and quite well actually but arent reporting it to system on Linux.
Well those are hours that i could spend compiling android but nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Why the fuck didnt they said it from the start ? Ahhhhhh8 -
This is fuck crazy and is driving me nuts already. I have VEGA 8 integrated GPU into my Ryzen 5 2500U laptop and RX560X 4GBVRAM as dedicated GPU. Like thats pretty decent hardware right there. But well when you try to game on linux. And not wine but native Deus Ex mankind divided then man the fps are in 15-20 range if you are in good scene. This is fucking terrible. IDK if i have something wrong set up or what but its unacceptable to have that performance. But today i tried No Mans Sky. OpenGL game and well i run it and big suprise its just white screen. But then i notice in logs that its asking for OpenGL 4.5 which MESA 18.2 doesnt have so i build 18.3 from git and that one implemented 4.5. Great game now runs. And performance isnt actually bad. OK i might actually get decent fps from this game after twekening. OK i see that it se my VRAM to 64mb ok lets change that to 4096. Texture to Low and turn off HDR. Game loaded much fucking more quickly now. Like really fast. Probably SSD did that. Now i really dont know. Is my system fucked up or what that i cant run games at pretty good fps ? Funny thing ? Native port from feral games of Tomb Raider 2013 runs only on 1 core and leaves other at idle. Like WTF ????? I will probably download deus Ex again and try to figure out WTF is wrong.
Also i dont want AMDGPU-PRO drivers since i would need to downgrade my kernel which i cant do due to git mesa.
Any ideas or the games on linux are really that poorly optimized on AMD and to add up linux ?6 -
I really really really don't like Windows. The amount of awful updates that I have to do all of the time, the fact that my mother just had Windows updates try and run, fail, try and run again, fail again, and then try a third time. But I'm stuck with it, because if I try and run a Linux live CD, my computer has a fit. Because Ryzen. Fantastic24
-
I got core count shamed by a client today. He has a 64 Core ryzen and I have a quad core I7.
I want to upgrade I do! But the new tech coming out this year is just too good to not wait for! Plus I waited 8 years, I can wait a few more months. Right????10 -
FFS its really that hard to find some pretty Material based Arch linux wallpaper ? Because i cant find any. If you have some good ones that are dark theme then post link.
If you are creating some then i would love some AMD Ryzen+Arch linux wallpaper.2 -
Repasted my laptop because i was having thermal issues. (But thats expected when you are building something pretty much all day.)
And GPU had thermal paste almost dry and CPU well that was for some fucking reason liquid still.
So i got the best thermal paste you can get without going metal.
Kryonaut !
And i will be damned.
It really does the job so much fucking better.
15C drop on gaming. Really good.
This is the way to go.
So if you have nitro 5 AMD ryzen 5 2500U version then repaste it from start as the one there is shit.
Just so much fucking better.8 -
2 things i learned about dual channel.
Seems like Ryzen doesnt get some extra boost with dual channel but GNOME is much smoother with it.
But dang system load is reduced a lot.
Before it was 1000% when compiling
Now its 80-110% and it compiles it even faster.
Cool.
And holy shit 8Gb RAM is not an option when compiling or building android and other shit.
I would always run out.
Now i can watch YT and still have 50% of RAM free. HAHA16 -
DOOM running on VEGA 8 at 30fps on linux in OpenGL4.5
Now excited me jumped and enabled Vulkan expecting 50fps.
18fps.
Wait whaaaaaaaaaaaaat ?
Now something must have gone to hell here because this is just wrong.
Dedicated GPU 34fps on openGL4.5 (Weird i know. Something is surely wrong).
Enabling Vulkan gives me .............. 18fps.
Wait now real whatttttt ?
Oh wait its running on VEGA 8 still instead of my RX560X but i have used PRIME.
WTF is wrong ?
It seems DOOM just pickes the first device in vulkan list and thats VEGA 8 aka my integrated GPU in my Ryzen 5 2500U.
Anybody know a way to change the list to make my dedicated GPU first ? Or some dark magic in DOOM to dont use first device but have me have control over which device is used ?5 -
finally got TI to cough up their SDK and I noticed there's no compiler or linker or anything. Turns out I need to use TASM.
...TASM is for MS-DOS or compatible. I'm on Linux.
Well, it went poorly, as usual, specifically like this:
- tried to automate building with DOSBox config and Python script: output binary always corrupted. Manually repeated, TASM mangles output on DOSBox every time. No PCem or 86box, and i'm on a Ryzen, so no KVM DOS. Out of luck there.
- TASM Linux build or wrapper? No build, but there is a wrapper! ...wait, it needs... 4 things written by random people to be made from source. I mean, that's not actually that bad... oh, after setting all of them up (and struggling through some autoconf/automake bullshit, one of the programs only had source for a 2.x kernel and autoconf/automake were not happy about it) it fails because one project's been worked on a lot more and dropped support for working with the other 3... goddammit.
- Community SDK? Several options for this... but all of them need .NET 2 to run on Win9x, don't work in Wine, or require... hey look, TASM! GODDAMMIT!
- DOS on a real machine? It's a massive bitch to shuttle files to and from a real DOS machine quickly and I can't take 30 minutes between builds that take me 4 minutes to change enough to need tested again.
why must i suffer like this22 -
My sister's laptop ate shit the other day and she ordered a new one. She got me thinking about my five year old rig, and how it was starting to show its age, so started half-heartedly pricing the stats I would want in a new machine on newegg and Amazon for fully assembled machines, and was always getting gouged or having to make some kind of sacrifice for another feature.
So after my wife responded to me trying to sound offhanded about buying a new computer by only rolling her eyes, but not actually raising any actual objection, I committed to the idea and started searching in earnest.
I realized that a fully assembled machine would always cost more, be underpowered for its price, be basically impossible to upgrade, be made of shitty parts, and always require some kind of compromise on my part.
Normally in the past, i would go to the barebones section on Pricewatch, order the basic stats I wanted, and fill it in myself after that. But it appears that Pricewatch might be dead. So, for the first time since probably 2002 or so, I'm building a computer in its entirety.
I'm really excited. Everything should be here by the middle of next week.2 -
Those linux native ports from windows games are purely terrible.
I have ryzen 5 and radeon RX560X and i cant play 2013 game that is native on high ? And its on 30fps on low ? Wtf ? This is fucking crazy. Or maybe its that my dedicated GPU isnt switching on ? But when i do glxinfo i get dedicated GPU but only if i pass DRI_PRIME=1.12 -
I fucking hate single channel RAM. Thankfully i will be upgrading in April from 6.8Gb RAM (8gb but iGPU(VEGA8 in Ryzen 5 2500U) takes 1.2gb) to 16Gb.5

Budget setup! Third monitor on the left is waiting for a cable. The bigger monitor is a 27'' that i got for 15€, the vertical one I got for free. Mini itx ryzen setup behind the monitors. Chinese mechanical keyboard with outemu blue switches4

You know you choose right when your CPU is running full power for 2 hours and the CPU is sitting at 58C.
And thats stock. If i apply new thermal paste then expect 10C less.
Also this is Ryzen 5 2500U running at 4cores 8 threads at 3Ghz at each thread.
What took so fucking long to compile when mesa takes less then 3 minutes to compile ?
Fucking GCC. IDK what the fuck they do but god dammit optimise it FFS.24 -
EDIT: !rant, forgot tags, sorry :(
Tfw your new laptop CPU gets the same performance as your 10y.o. desktop and is 10x more power efficient.
Ryzen 5 2500U (2018):
> 4c/8t
> 2GHz base / 3.6 turbo
> 15W TDP
Xeon W3520 (2009):

> 2.7GHz base / 2.9 turbo
>130W TDP

Tl; dr: Linux on Ryzen is a pain at the moment.
Now for the long part: Our student council got new computers because the old ones where slow as hell. As one of the admins, the others and I together decided that ryzen would be a good option, because they are not that expensive and we wouldn't have to buy gpus. (Wrong decision it turns out.) We settled on the ryzen 3 2200G and bought three systems to replace the old ones.
We meet Saturday morning and build the systems. All was fine and we were happy. The we tried to install ubuntu via preseeded netboot, which seemed to work fine at first. Then we started having weird screen issues and couldn't proceed with the installation. (See image) we then grumpily decided to just install them all one by one, flashed two usbs and started installing. On two systems the installation worked and we installed our packages, we weren't so lucky with the third one. It would crash on us all the time, even in bios. While that was going on we tried to set the other two up, turns out those two were also crashing but not as frequent as the other one. So we start to google and find people saying that kernel 4.19 kinda fixes it. We install it on the two working machines and the crashes get less frequent but are still there. At that point it was midnight and we went home.
Sunday morning: we reseated the cpu on the third system and it seems to be better now (it installed on the second try) and we were able to change the kernel. Yay. Now all three are in a state where they will sometimes randomly reset. :/ and we don't know what to try anymore.... Any suggestions?2 -
Guys how is the linux support on amd ryzen 5 2500U ? Last time i saw post posted was 2 months ago and it was getting better.
Im going to buy some powerfull notebook and for now acer aspire 3 with amd ryzen 5 2500U seems good but im open to any suggestions around 700€
It needs to compile android OS not apps which is hard CPU intensive and memory but also some gaming. Low-medium on newer games is OK. And also NEEDS good Linux support and around 700€ but nothing more then 790€ but if its really good deal i might think about it.
Thanks.

Intel is dying right now tbh. I hope the can get back on their feet but as of right now, chaos. They have had multiple ceo changes within 1 year and their current is a horrible leader. They have been really wasteful with their money (like buying McAfee...) And the inly reason they are leading in the CPU market, Tick Tock, is failing. It used to be Process - Architecture. Now intel has announced they are not changing the process for 8th gen, currently it's Process - Architecture - Optimize - Optimize - Optimize. Which is not good. It has been leaked that Intel is currently just hoping for AMD Ryzen to fail, let's face it, Ryzen seems really promising and might be the comeback AMD needs.
TLDR; Intel is a one trick pony and their one trick is failing. They have been really wasteful with their money and their current hope is that Ryzen fails.
I have an Intel CPU in my system and i find them to be better than AMD, but the tables might turn.7 -
I'm freaking done trying to get Linux on my machine. I've tried every distro with many different versions of the kernel and I always run into the same problem on my desktop.
The computer super stutters for 2 seconds ish than freezes.
I've spent DAYS looking into this issue trying to find something. The worst part is that it can happen 5 minutes when I boot or 5 hours. At first I thought it was Compton. Then I thought I installed arch wrong. Maybe an update to the BIOS? How about downloading updated microcode? Maybe this obscure bug with AMD processors and setting power idle to typical? Nothing. I'm now behind on my school work because of the massive amount of time ive spent getting this fixed. It works just fine on my laptop, but it doesn't work on the machine I built to code with. I'm done. Give me Force Lightning, a red lightsaber, and call me a Sith baby because I'm joining the dark side. Here I come Windows.
For those who are wondering my setup:
Ryzen 7 1700
Rx 480
Asus x-370 prime
16 gb Corsair RAM
And no, Windows has never had this bug.31 -
For all the hate against windows I built over the now 8 years using linux as my main os. Now I feel windows 10 is quite good.
I got a little beefier desktop lately, been using just laptops from the last 8 years(8D) so I got this urge to get a desktop for gaming, I bought an entry level machine. ryzen 5 2400g, put my lovely linux mint and... the fucking machine was hanging up when the load was too high, and the load was too high too often because react/node etc.
I gave up in less than a day, I just did a quick search and some people said about secure boot or whatnot, some other claimed that ryzen cpus had no problem with mint, I got fed up quickly and did not try any solution with linux. Then I installed windows 10, installed the godamned drivers from the provided dvd ... since then it was a breeze.
The dark mode is gorgeous and no hanging up at all... I'm just sad that mint did not worked soo well. I wanted to have consistency between my laptop/desktop and I loved mint above everything. But well, some things improve while you're not looking at them, win 10 is quite good, I'll keep my desktop as gaming/programming pc with win 10, and well, the laptop will be auxiliar programming machine.

Got a new motherboard today, a Asus crosshair vi hero, AM4 for amd ryzen.
Bought is as broken / defective, it supposedly works except 2 ram slots should not get detected.
On a closer look, the story of water-damage didn't seem right.
Disassembled everything and took another look.
😲😨 "Is that solder tin? What the actual fuck?"
*Scratche it with tweezers
*"Supposed solder tin" becomes liquid and moves
😱 "The fuck that's liquid metal"
😵 Who the fuck sprinkles liquid metal all over a board?
😳Ryzen is solderd why the fuck should someone use liquid metal?

Planning on building a Ryzen 5 2400G setup for light gaming/home lab stuff, I need it to run a bunch of VMs and have passable frame rates in games on Linux (I hardly play AAA hard to port games, so should be okay there).
Planning on going full Linux for this, you guys got any tips/warnings/gotchas? Also, have any of you encountered issues with using NVMe SSDs on Linux?10 -
My Ryzen CPU got quite hot, and hence also loud, under sustained all-core workloads. The CPU boost doesn't bring that much performance in these workloads (but it does in gaming), so I made two Linux bash scripts.
One does the actual boosting, cpu-boost.sh: https://pastebin.com/K9YShNM6
The other uses Zenity as GUI wrapper so that this can be hooked into the start menu, cpu-boost-gui.sh: https://pastebin.com/X7rhZ8DV
Now I can change it on the fly, even via GUI. Thanks to some sudoers settings (see comments in the first script), I don't even need to enter a password. Obviously, this is only for personal machines, not advisable on servers.
Maybe someone else finds this useful.4 -
Ryzen Threadripper desktops talking:

Linux: The utility of ecc is lost on an operating system that is orders of magnitude more unstable than the hardware on which it runs.

Here, a full retrospective of my Apple products ownership.
iPhone SE – after Android, I was absolutely amazed by how fast it worked. No UI lags, camera works absolutely instantly no matter the light conditions, all the GPU-heavy games work butter smooth.
After camera and charging port failures on Xperia flagship and CPU literally melting through screen rendering it unusable on Meizu, it was enough to make me interested in Apple products.
When I was using Meizu, I actually got a twitching eye which was triggered by UI lags. After two months of using iPhone, I noticed that something was missing – my eye wasn't twitching anymore.
iPhone actually cured me.
MacBook 12 – a 900 grams laptop with passive-cooled mobile CPU running many Chrome tabs, heavy Webpack HMR build, VSCode and Slack just fine. Yes, you can't play games, but I don't even require it from a laptop this tiny.
Butterfly keyboard that internet hates so much actually increased my typing speed and comfort compared to MX Red mechanical keyboard, and ForceTouch trackpad made me forget about mouse. I learned how to disassemble the Butterfly keyboard if I ever need this but the keyboard never failed.
I use this laptop to this day and it still even smells like the day one, a beautiful smell of a new Apple product.
iPhone X – got it because of the camera, stayed for great battery life and amazing OLED display. I use telephoto lens exclusively and it made me lay off my Canon DSLR with Helios lens which stays on my bookshelf covered in dust to this day.
True black of OLED display which is undistinguishable from the screen bezel is stunning. To this day, battery surely works for one and a half days and I watch youtube really often.
I sometimes struggled to unlock iPhone SE with wet fingers, but with FaceID, as soon as I look at the screen the phone is unlocked. Works perfect every time, never had an issue with this.
Stainless steel body feels premium compared to aluminum. Stereo sound is a major selling point if you're like watching videos and playing games on your phone. Overall amazing product and a huge improvement over SE.
Apple Watch series 4 – really comfortable fit. Nice battery life, once I forgot about it for like ten days during lockdown and it was still working, even though on power reserve mode. Really reliable in terms of battery life and liquid protection. Very satisfying Taptic Engine crown clicks. I run every day and Apple watch always measure my heart rate correctly, and the running app is well designed and a pleasure to use. Overall a nice accessory to have if you use iPhone.
Powerbeats Pro – great sound and battery life. I switched from Shure SE215 which was great, but it had wires. I listen to a lot of music so the sound quality is important for me. When I was choosing earphones I visited a store where you can listen to them all. I listened through earphones like Noble Audio Kaiser Encore and JH Audio Layla, and of course $4000 Laylas sound better than $249 bluetooth earphones, but the difference in sound doesn't justify the difference in price to me.
Powerbeats pro is the Apple H1 chip true wireless earphones with largest driver of them all which makes them sound better than AirPods Pro – it's just physics. Bass in Powerbeats is amazing, which is also true for my Shures, but Powerbeats also win in clarity.
It connects seamlessly to both my MacBook and my iPhone, and everyone in voice chats can hear me really good.
Huge case is a major throwback compared to AirPods, but the battery life of earphones themselves is so great that I just leave the case at home and only carry earphones and it works for me.
Apple Link bracelet in space black – really better than I expected. Intricate detailing, literally the steel that Rolex uses, top-notch finishing and polishing – all that for just 450 dollars. I only used it for several days now, but it already feels like a really satisfying product.
Before all that I was using Linux. It took a year for elementaryos devs to fix wifi for my laptop. Ubuntu looks and feels ugly. Pop OS felt like garbage. Manjaro was also just that – garbage. KDE Plasma – I don't even want to talk about that. A monstrocity where you accidentally click a wrong switch in the settings and your system won't boot up again. Also, PulseAudio. Struggles with proprietary drivers and software updates.
Windows? I serviced a lot of Windows PCs through my career and it never, never worked as intended. I'm no dumbass, I always managed the rights correctly and never installed sketchy apps. My latest ryzen gaming build with a lot of ram also lags somehow even in Windows 10 UI.
Before I switched, I defended Linux.
My life was a lie.
I'm sorry to everyone who I offended based on their opinion on Linux.33 -
I am so sad. I've been having problems with Linux installs on my desktop since i built it. It just hangs at random times and the journals don't mention any problems. I finally catch a lead and it turns out it's a bug with the microcode of the Ryzen processors. There was a possible work around, but it didn't work for me.
Guess I'm just going to have to use Windows exclusively on my desktop. I hope for a fix but the bug has been around for a year. :(4 -
my new processor came
AMD RYZEN 5700G
this baby will enable me to play Cyberpunk without graphics card :))33 -
I recently upgraded my computer to a ryzen 1700x and 16gb 3600mhz memory and an asus rog crosshair hero vi board(From an 8350)
My pc ran soo smooth, games even more so
The games ran great, but my personal performance went down.
I didn't understand why. Im probably just losing my edge.
I trained and tried. But still, it felt off.
Today I realized that with my new motherboard, I got a new mac address. And my friend is a bit of a neat freak with that stuff. He has a whole system for ip addresses.
So i told him, I wont have the correct ip address. Then he started laughing and asked my to browse to a certain site www.privateinternetaccess.com
There at the top it said: "you are protected by pia"
Devices without an ip address bound to their mac address, will automatically use the vpn according to his rules.
My ping improved by 10-15ms upon getting my normal ip address back and my game performance is back.3 -
I'm considering to build a powerful, small/semi-portable mini-ITX PC. Just small box you can easily travel with, kinda like a laptop but a lot cheaper and without a screen, keyboard and battery - I can't really work on laptops anyway (ergonomics!). Stuffed with something like a 4400G when Renoir (mainstream Zen2) comes out, so lots of processing power. Add 32GB+ RAM and one or two SSDs.
I'd say the reason is that I might work from abroad (remotely) next year, but honestly, it just gives me an excuse to break my piggy bank!
What do you think?11 -
I will soon move to Belgium for a few months due to my wife's job and I will go back to Germany once in a while for a few weeks. Of course I'll need a computer and I can't take my tower back and forth all the time, thus I'll need something more mobile. Since most notebooks <1000€ are shit and I'll also need at least two external monitors, I went for a small (USFF) PC instead; for about 350€ I got a HP ProDesk 400 G5 with a i5-9500T, 8 GB RAM (to be upgraded), 256 GB NVME (also to be upgraded), B360 chipset. I would have liked a Ryzen, but then I could only get the predecessor with a 2400GE...
Hopefully Linux (Qubes OS in particular) will work fine.20 -
When ryzen released I bought a 1700x a little while after with 3600 cl15 memory.
Back then it only ran at 3.6ghz cpu and 2800 mhz cl16 memory.
Now im on 3.75 ghz and 3333mhz cl14.
I honestly didnt expect this to happen1 -
I am seeing a lot of people infuriated a lot about windows10 updates.
And I am just sitting here on win7 with disabled updates.
Waiting for some free time to fetch my new computer with ryzen, throwing some linux dist on it and virtualize the shit out of windows for gaming only.5 -

Fuck you qtwebengine. The most bloated thing to compile on gentoo. Why does a package take 5 hours to build on Ryzen 7 3700X ? Freaking full blown android ROM takes 1.5 hours to build on my machine. So they wanna tell me this thing does more then full blown entire OS ?9

Is a 2017 MacBook Air good enough for web development and for working in IntelliJ IDEA, Android studio & XCode?
I'll be building a PC with Ryzen 7 and Vega for performance intensive tasks later. I need a laptop with good build quality under $1000.
If you know any good windows laptop in this price range please let me know :)9 -
I want a want Desktop and a decent gfx card for video processing/ml/etc, not for gaming and also a good CPU.
I'm kinda leaning for an i7 but the specs r like 4ghz, my current laptop is 2ghz I think. Old.
I can't decide which to buy and if Ryzen is good enough or which GTX card. I don't think I need to have 1080?

I am thinking about building new PC, so I made a list of components. What do you think? Any suggestions?
I don't know which GPU model/brand to get yet. Would like to play at 1440p >60Hz so GTX1070 is not enough if I don't wanna buy new GPU in a few years (probably 4-5 years as I always do).

Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 5... This is the question...
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I need a new laptop... NOW!
Where can I found the one that I want? 😁🤣10 -
Just ordered 3 new setups for our upcoming office - parts will arrive next week, absolutely hyped 😍
Each setup includes Ryzen 7 2700X, 16GB TridentZ RAM, Samsung EVO 970 M2 SSD, RX 570 Armor 8GB, Be quiet CM 10 600W, 3x Riing 12 coolers, NZXT H500 case. Also a 4K 27" Samsung Monitor and a 29" LG Ultrawide. Kind of overkill for office PCs, but as we're also hobby game developers and had kind of a budget, we figured it will fit our needs more than enough 😄 Pictures of the builds coming up soon!10 -
It was my birthday recently, so I ordered myself some PC parts and built my first PC.

Alright, listen. If you come up with a crackme that requires someone to wait for something to happen for, say, 250 hours in real-time... but runs on a Gameboy or whatever other retro console? You're gonna have a bad time.
I'm on a Ryzen 5 2600, and with the most accurate Gameboy emulators out there barely running in Wine I can hit 1000x normal speed if I unlock the emulator's framerate. That 250 hours just became like 45 minutes without having to actually *do* anything. This even applies to "lol reverse this seeded generation thing" if I can try a few million combinations/sec just by incrementing some var in memory and re-running your code. (Yes, i'm literally doing that now. Yes, i'm blowing through this 28-bit keyspace like it's nothing. YES, THEY GAVE ME THE LAST NYBBLE FOR FREE!)3 -
tl;dr: why is it so hard to build a pc?😒
why is it so damn hard to find the right pc components for developing/image editing/gaming/...?😟
i've been googling around and watched many youtube videos on what components to buy/what to watch out for/tips/problems/etc...
i want to build a decent pc for web, mail, office, developing, running linux as VM (for experiments), edit images, doing most in multitasking (and maybe also play some games) ... basically everything, but i can't wrap my head around what to choose😟
every time when i think (for example) "ok, ryzen 5 2400G, that must be it!' there's always smth negative about it, come on!!🙄😤
i wanted to make an AMD setup for 1000€ max
i feel like as a developer/"kinda it guy" i know what i need, then again i feel dumb as fuck, not knowing what to choose and i'm almost certain i will pick smth wrong😪
do u guys have any suggestions for me/any help?21 -
So I bought a gtx1650 gpu for my old phenom II X4 pc. It didn’t work – the screen vent black in like five minutes after powering up the pc.
I was disappointed, but instead of returning the gpu, I bought all the other components to build a new pc on ryzen cpu. Including the gpu, it all was like $400 and I still have all my old parts to sale.
Now I’m here, playing all the latest games like doom and wolfenstein on ultra in 1080p 60fps and I’m more than happy.
I basically found a way to convert my bad experience into good experience. I’m just off my therapy, so all that bad experiences that may seem insignificant are a big deal for me.
I didn’t knew it was possible to make a good emotions out of bad emotions that easy. If only I knew the way to apply this strategy for any arbitrary situation.
(please miss me with that boomer bullshit like “nothing is wrong stop whining and get over it” etc. I’ve been there, I’ve done that and I needed medical treatment afterwards. “Getting over it” just doesn’t work)6 -
!rant/story:
Aaayoo issya boi the OG rapper straight outta Compton, wassup?!
Nah, for real, though.: How are y'all doing? It has been a long time. I hope y'all are having a great time (can sense some peoples' incoming negative comments due to corona).
I built my completely new first gaming rig like a few weeks ago after my school laptop stopped showing any signals.
The specifications are the following.:
- Mobo: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (no iGPU)
- dGPU: KFA2 RTX 2070 SUPER OC
- 2nd dGPU: GTX 550 TI (this one gets a new rant/post)
- RAM: 2x G.SKILL Ripjaws V 8 GB 3600 MHz
- PSU: Be quiet 650 W (It was the platinum edition afaik. I originally bought the 600 Watt Gold edition, but somehow they sent me the 650 Watt for no additional charge... which is great for me haha)
- HDD: 2x 4TB NAS HDD in RAID1 configuration (to load all of my games around 2 TB right now. Got the two HDDs for 110 Euro including the SATA Data cables)
- SSD: One Intenso 240 GB SSD and a reused Samsung 256 GB SSD from my old broken Lenovo laptop
- Case: Be quiet Pure Base 500 black with a glass panel on the side
While building my first PC, it was one hell of a challenge. I knew how it all was working in theory, but to put it all together, practically, was a bit of a challenge, but it was a nice challenge. I learned a lot and have a performance gain I could only ever dream of.
I used to play my games first on a Toshiba satellite l750d laptop (around 40 fps in cs:go with the lowest gfx settings) and then on a Lenovo e51-80 laptop (around 30 fps max minecraft with no shaders and texture packs).
Now I play cs:go on Kubuntu with 400 fps at peak with ultra high graphics. It is unbelievable.
I couldn't trust the system when I turned on the fps display the first time I saw it.7 -
I need a new laptop. Fucking 8gigs of ram aren't enough for anything these days.
Today at work I had 4 gig of swap allocated...
Any recommendations whether to buy ryzen mobile or IntelU. I want an ultrabook because I move around quite a lot.4 -
My mom has a degree in CS, but hasn't worked in the field for a while. She is looking to get back into it, and has drafted me to find her a good laptop.
My question: is core i5/ryzen 5 and 8GB memory enough, or should I go for more? I know it's enough for now, but how soon, if ever, will she need more? What dev fields will require more/what should I take into consideration?31 -
Fucking shit! So I built this new gaming rig: https://devrant.com/rants/1795588/...
....and fuck!
Firstly the RAM does not fucking run on 3200MHz. The maximum stable speed is 3000MHz...
A secondly, the CPU is so fucking HOT! 50 degrees Celsius in BIOS, underclocking when I try to run stress test. I knew it is thermal paste, so I decided to take the cooler off and see and buy a new better paste and wtf AMD, their paste is so shit, that there was actually no layer of paste on the CPU, only on the edges big piles of it. WUT?4 -
In South Park, Eric bought a bottle of double diet Mountain Dew. The double Mountain Dew contains double the sugar, and the diet contains half the sugar.

What laptop should I buy to run Linux?
My experience on my desktop with Nvidia is just horrible, so I'm considering to buy a laptop with the new AMD Ryzen when I go to university next year. I'm a little bit unsure about the compatibility with Linux though. Should I go for AMD, or buy a laptop with Nvidia graphics and pray everything works fine?
Do you have any suggestions? I would like to be able to do some light gaming, but I don't want it to be to heavy and I don't want to spend to much money either (around €800).
Do you have any good or bad experiences with running Linux on a laptop?
Are there things I should be aware of?33 -
How are we feeling about the new Ryzen lineup for workstations that can do a bit of gaming on the side?
I'm so looking to go back to team red, but I don't know how beneficial the no of cores Ryzen provides is for compiling, static analysis and other dev tasks.
Anyone have experience with Ryzen for dev'ing?7 -
Debating whether or not to buy my new PC, kinda scared to switch to ryzen but excited to build the rig now that I know what I'm doing...
Should I do it guys?8 -
Folks
I need your input on the following
how important do you think having high core count in CPUs in your daily workflow?
I'm planning on buying a new ryzen 5000 processor, while I am going to game the hell out of it I'm also planning to run wsl2, a ton of chrome tabs, maybe have multiple IDEs for developing random stuff, maybe some virtual machines for some experimentations, some docker containers for some selfhosted software and lastly open demanding games while having everything else open.
Will a 6 core 5600x be enough? or do you think investing in a 5900x will be worth it down the line? (lets say for the next 7 years)
Assume that the GPU will handle the games im going to play and the RAM is going to be 32gb for now12 -
I cant tell if i like it practical, or prefer the default thingy thing at the bottom of my android home screen :i4

Since my XPS battery is dying I'm flirting with an idea of a new laptop. Requirements:
- 13" display
- 4k display (I'm so used to high-res that x1080 looks like accessibility mode)
- 16 (worst case), 32 (OK), 64 (possible?) GB RAM
- long battery life
- i7 or Ryzen equivalent (I need lots of ram, lots of computing power)
- plays nice with Linux
- GPU preferably integrated (don't need a separate GPU)
- ultrabook (small, compact, light) (I don't like to exercise while carrying it. God forbid I'd grow a muscle... )
- purrrrtty :)
So far the best candidate I've found is... XPS13 again :D The setup I'm after costs ~1.6k€ which is not that bad, really.
Is there anything else in the market that'd meet the criteria? Anything worth looking into? Better deals?19 -

So I thought let's put it here: i7-7700k or Ryzen 1700X?

Man i realy need to get of my windows host.
My productivity takes a nosedive whenever im on windows idk why.
I'd love to use linux fully but my fav game Overwatch has shit performance running on linux.
So the best solution would be to pass through my gpu to a windows vm for gaming.
But that would require a new gpu for the host system as the ryzen 7 1700 does not have a gpu.
I dont have any experience with passing thtough gpus. But could i make 2 vms that acces the same gpu, ofc not at the same time. So that i could have a gaming vm and maybe use another linux vm if i wanted to do something which profits off gpu acceleration.11 -

- DOS FDISK has totally-undocumented CLI (partitioning with auto-format and OTF drive mapping... like one OEM used it for their machine recovery discs and no one else even knows it exists) docs coming soon (this is a lie i found this a year or two ago but forgot till yesterday)
- nuitka is a fucking blessing and the man who made it deserves so much love for it
- my existence is one massive waste of time
- apparently some B450 boards require you to hit a button and test your fans' min/max values and it takes like an hour and IT STILL DOESN'T MAKE THEM VISIBLE FROM THE OS ASROCK YOU FUCKS
- the new Ryzen took my latest project's compile time from 30 hrs to like 6 because I can compile 12 things at once instead of just 4
- installing debian sucks ass now, they forgot to push part of apt to the 10.3 stable installer so you just can't install shit through apt until you fix that, though dpkg works
- apparently they pushed a grub-efi-amd64 version that breaks all efivars??? i know debian sid is like meant to be unstable but a bug like that should never have even been rolled into a package till it was fixed like ???????????
- depression sucks ass11 -
Just finished building a new Linux workstation that my company bought me! That Ryzen 2700X is just ridiculously fast! I'm not talking about irrelevant FPS benchmarks on some hip game...
I'm talking about compile time for the Linux kernel and buildroot!
Long story short, is about 5x my previous workstation with a Xeon 3.
Now I wanna get my hands on a 32 threadripper for my personal computer!! -
Im helping my brother build a pc, and i try to make him try a linux distro before he purchase windows, simply because i regret not doing so.
Now i got some thoughts going tho.. We both have/will have Ryzen 5 CPU and GTX 1060/70/80. Will there be any compatibility issues with some linux distros with that?
Iirc Nvidia cards had some minor issues on linux.
My brother will mainly use it for gaming on a serious level, and i use it for development and gaming for fun.
Also any distros you can recommend? I had a peek at Manjaro, it looked cool.12 -
My motherboard is msi a320 pro-vds with ryzen 5 2400g. My friend gave me her rx570 nitro+ 8gb. Will it be compatible with my system?8

> picking parts for best possible piecemeal upgrade/sidegrade price with parts made after 2011
> need CPU, mobo, RAM, case
> Ryzen 5 2600, 16? No, 32GB DDR4 of just whatever speed...
> wait, what do you mean new motherboards are $300? Wait.
> Wait, no, how is the one Ryzen motherboard under $100 a shit B450M on sale? The fuck are these prices?
TIL motherboards are volatile as fuck on price. In fact, mobos are less stable in value than most crypto.
Jesus fuck.
(The one B450M i saw is actually now $140-some and a nice X570 is currently $120. Why does the price of these fuckers change *daily?*)
as for case none under $100 are good so i picked some random mostly-mesh ATX mid case over my preferred ATX full case and i'm just gonna pray i can find some fan config that works because at this point i'm done with this shit fuck this, a bottom-barrel mobo, low-tier cpu and a decent case shouldn't be $400 or more15 -
Can someone suggest a new laptop for me?
- ~15 inches
- 12GB-16GB
- Ryzen 5 gen 1-2(or intel equivalent)
- No good videocard needed
I already have a good desktop to game, just need a laptop to code7 -
When you go to "Oh they do it cheap", don't expect results...
Changed my PC build around 2 years ago.
Went from Core i7 / Nvidia to Ryzen 9 / AMD
Welp, AMD is totaly unstable.
I've invested 5k $ so I'm gonna ride it, but NEVER, EVER EVER again I'm buying AMD CPU or GPU.
Shit is unstable as fuck. I have latency issues, CPU issues, Video issues almost every week.
With Intel/nVidia cvombo I had before, I had issues maybe once every 3-4 months.
So yeah, buy low cost AMD, you pay the price later in usability. Fuck them.21 -
how is it that the android emulator in android studio runs buttery smooth on my up-to-date linux ryzen setup with just few terminal commands to set up, while my up-to-date windows version has some bullshit problem with virtualization, even with SVM on, Hypervisor all good, and yet crashes with a WHPX(?) error?
i mean ok i don't have an intel at hand but still the problem should be fixed by now according to google docs. even the fixes provided by the internet didn't help. this twist between windows and linux is very weird on my machine.1 -
Installing Linux distros on ryzen gigabyte motherboard was a pain in the ass. I gave up on Ubuntu and mintlinux and went onto install fedora with malfunctioning mouse(driver issue, mouse was fine). Basically had to hack around with only keyboard for few hours before I could install the latest Nvidia drivers and got my mouse to work. I don't who is at fault here but the Linux community needs to put enough pressure on vendors like gigabyte/amd to make sure they release updates for their hardwares across os. Installing an Os shouldn't be this hard

I'm planing on building a custom PC and I was thinking on using Ryzen. Should I wait for the Ryzen with Vega or shoul I use the older ones ? (The Vega ones are still not available in my country )3

Im finding parts for my brothers new pc, and i really think that Ryzen 5 2600X is a great choice.
But then one of his friends said that Intel is better for gaming, and suggested an i7-8700k.
The price difference doesnt mean much, my brother just wants whats best for gaming, and now im starting to doubt my own decision.
Which CPU would you think is better for gaming only?
Literally gaming only, not even school . Its only gaming.
Lets not start a war, i just want pros/cons, straight up facts or your experience with either :)12 -
Not a rant, but was wondering:
If I undervolt Ryzen 5 3600 using Ryzen Master from windows, do I get the changes when I boot into my Linux distro? 🤔9 -
I know it !
But when it finally works (reSharper) it's really not 'that' bad.
But my poor AMD Ryzen 9 3900X is not good enough I think lol.
About 30 seconds init time.2 -
Are there any cons when choosing a Ryzen cpu for my new pc build, considering programming / development / linux?3
-
Does anyone familiar with overclocking Ryzen non-x cpu? I had a Ryzen 7 2700 with gigabyte B450 motherboard. The core voltage locks to 0.9v after clock ratio set to 34 from auto (3.2GHz). But on auto, the vcore is around 1.38v, which is close to max recommendation. Why?9

Acer Nitro 5 Ryzen quad core VS Acer Aspire 7
Which one should I consider mainly for gaming and coding related stuff??15
