So, I was gonna rant about how it can be difficult to design event-based Microservices.
I was gonna say some shit about gateways APIs and some other stuff about data aggregation and keeping things idempotent.
I was going to do all this but then as I was stretching out the old ranting fingers I decided to draw a diagram to maybe go along with the rant.
Now I’m not here to really rant about all that Jazz...
I’m here to give you all a first class opportunity to tear apart my architecture!
A few things to note:
Using a gateway API (Kong) to separate the mobile from the desktop.
This traffic is directed through to an in intermediate API. This way the same microservices can provide different data, and even functionality for each device.
Most Microservices currently built in golang.
All services are event based, and all data is built on-the-fly by events generated and handled by each Microservices.
RabbitMQ used as a message broker.
And finally, it is hosted in Google Cloud Platform.
The currently hosted form is built with Microservices but this will be the update version of things.
So, feel free to rip it apart or add anything you think should change.
Also, feel free to tell me to fuck right off if that’s your cup of tea as well.
Peace ✌🏼19 -
Freelance client fired me on Friday, with literally a couple of minor issues to take care of left before launch. When I inquired, he said they're going in a different direction. I immediately smelled bullshit. When I asked who to turn over the files and DB to, it was their idea to allow me to broker the deal to switch things over and hand the keys over. I asked the new dev what framework or installed CMS and he thought I was crazy for asking. He told me they're taking by build of the site and finishing it. That's fucking low.4

I just had my cell phone cloned yesterday. End of the day, my phone lost signal suddenly. I thought it was a problem with my chip, so I decided to check that on a store and buy a new one next day.
Today, after I recover my chip and number, I started to see the mess. Someone used my number to send message to all my contacts on whatsapp, asking for money. Also, I had some contact info changed on the bank broker, which is really serious. I do not know what else is compromised, and I'm truly worried about it.
Someone has some good tips for improving security while using cellphones?25 -
On the game front, I see so much conflicting advice. "Start getting feedback" as soon as possible. "Donnt soft launch on steam! The algol will wreck you.", "soft launch on itch to get feedback", "dont soft launch on itch!"
"Start marketing today", "focus on influencers", "get to know communities *before* you advertise", "dont get to know communities beforehand if you're just planning on self prompting", "dont self promote".
"CPM is important.", "CPA is important". Etc.
Sounds a lot like "have a bunch of money upfront." The solution is just to succeed from the start! It's so obvious. Just invent the next gta. The next facebook. Get a small loan of 50,000 dollars, or a million. Donate for a year to other kickstarter projects so people will know you and reciprocate! But also dont ebeg!
How about no. How about fuck all this advice by silver spoon assholes that didnt have to work on shoestring budgets. The advice is the equivalent of having a 300 page tonedeaf book, every page blank except page 150, where the words "fuck you. I got mine." Are printed in times new Roman, 14pt font, neatly in the center of the page.
The truth is most of the "indies" already made it in the software industry proper, before switching over. $5k kickstarter videos, with $15k marketing budgets, no doubt funded in part through their own money funneled through services that provide shell donations, because KS is being used as a glorified advertising service. People buying off steam curators for promotions, youtubers making sponsored videos without disclosing they're sponsored. Fake viralility. Fake campaigns. Predetermined success for those who could *already* afford to develop and go commercial without a publisher. And they came into the market and cannibalized the opportunity, raising the bar for everyone that wasnt them. I guess that's actually a good thing, because we wouldnt have half the amazing games we do, and the pressure to produce quality. But then I see fantastic games utterly ignored or flailing in an attempt to compete for eyeballs in an industry frequently dominated by gatekeeping marketeers and influencers, where human grace determines success or complete oblivion. And I'm just disgusted with it.
Also buy my game. Preorder NOW! And you'll get a REAL canvas bag, I'll go to like the goodwill and buy one and screen print the game logo on it or some shit. Buy the special collectors edition and get pictures of my feet. Buy the game of the year edition and get a real gasmask. Preorder now and I'll fucking suck your di k right now. No lie. Preorder the diamond edition RIGHT NOW in the next six minutes and I will send you one hundred thousand dollars in gold plated bottle caps. Limited supply. one million per customer. Offer expires soon. This is not a scam. I repeat. This is NOT a scam.
In other news I'm soft launching Atom Ranger in six months (assuming the nuclear apocalypse hasn't *actually* started by then). Its state of decay and fallout meets rimworld. Build and manage a sprawling base, resolving conflicts, exploring post apocalyptic Colorado and surrounding territories of no-mans-land. Navigate hazardous weather, radioactive terrain, collapsed bridges, dangerous rivers, and deal with cultists, bandits, slavers, and hungry cannibals. Broker peace between not just the factions outside your settlements, but within your base too. Manage conflicts, settle disputes, avert disasters, barter, scavenge, and survive in a fully dynamic world, where buildings slowly crumble, grass and trees sprout up in the road and vacant lots, fires burn out of control, and factions loot, ruin, and takeover settlements. Watch the world and the survivors in it change and survive. Help them to survive, or become a warlord and rule over the wastes.
Lets be honest. It's basically kenshi but less complicated.
If you want to volunteer to test (instead of paying to be a glorified tester, aka "alpha") let me know in the comments.
I'm currently setting up a discord and mailing list.28 -
Not dev related.
I am fucking tired of the house buying process in the England. Honestly it is such shambles that I don't think I have ever encountered anything like this. Nothing is ever predictable, everything and everone works at random timescale and nobody gives a fuck of you as a buyer even if you are paying crazy money. Apparently we are meant to be moving next Monday but contracts haven't been exchanged, my mortgage broker gave incorrect solicitors details to the bank so they are having to redo some paperwork, the buyer of our current place has not responded for last week to confirm the date, the seller we are buying from has been jumping up and down to exchange and here I am with no certainty.
My anxiety and frustration levels are through the roof for last 10 days. I can't wait for it all to be over. I don't think I am ever buying another house unless the process changes. Just needed to vent my frustration somewhere5 -
Daghhhhhhhh Kafka.
Set it up, seems to work fine.
Oh no...! Take a broker down, then messages go missing - hmm, that's not right. Fine, I'll just look into... Ah, bad replication factor, my fault. So then it's all fixed! Woop. Wait, no. Some messages still going missing occasionally. Oh, only set to "at most once" delivery. My bad, fix that, and... now everything is out of order. Oh, ok, partitions setup wrongly. Wtf, now the whole thing stalls when there's a network blip until a restart. Right, ok, looks like commits have to receive acks in the library I'm using before continuing. Switch to a library that uses CommitWithoutReply. Brilliant....
Apart from said library seems to have commits failing all over the place because it keeps trying to commit during a rebalance 🙄😒😤
The frustrating thing is I KNOW for a fact that Kafka is a fault tolerant, resilient, horizontally scalable thing capable of handling stupid amounts more than I'm throwing at it without missing a beat. But damn, configuring it, and checking you've configured it sanely is a royal, monumental PITA.5 -
Conversation yesterday (senior dev and the mgr)..
SeniorDev: "Yea, I told Ken when using the service, pass the JSON string and serialize to their object. JSON eliminates the data contract mismatch errors they keep running into."
Mgr: "That sounds really familiar. Didn't we do this before?"
SeniorDev: "Hmmm...no. I doubt anyone has done this before."
Me: "Yea, our business tier processor handled transactions via XML. It allowed the client and server to process business objects regardless of platform. Partners using Perl,
clients using Delphi, website using .aspx, and our SQLServer broker even used it."
Mgr: "Oh yea...why did we stop using it?"
Me: "WCF. Remember, the new dev manager at the time and his team broke up the business processor into individual WCF services."
Mgr: "Boy, that was a crap fest. We're still fighting bugs from the mobile devices. Can't wait until we migrate everything to REST."
SeniorDev: "Yea, that was such a -bleep-ing joke."
Me: "You were on Jake's team at the time. You were the primary developer in the re-write process saying passing strings around wasn't the way true object-oriented developers write code.
So it's OK now because the string is in JSON format or because using a JSON string your idea?"
SeniorDev turns around in his desk and puts his headphones back on.
That's right you lying SOB...I remember exactly the level of personal attacks you spewed on me and other developers behind our backs for using XML as the message format.
Keep your fat ass in your seat and shut the hell up.3 -
My neighbour bought stock from some broker and that brokers site didn't update his status so, he wanted "me" to fix it!! 😧

For the love of GOD, if you're an architect or someone in the position where you can make drastic changes to the overarching design of a software system, if you're so keen on enforcing something "cool" just because you've read about it in a blog post/seen it on a youtube video, READ ABOUT IT THOROUGHLY, as in, pick up a fucking book or do actual research. An architect overseas just informed us that a whole legacy PHP application (a fucking monolith with a dysfunctional database, yes, I think someone demented designed it) should be rewritten to a microservice architecture (without a messaging broker, just plain API interaction through HTTP) AND WE'RE KEEPING THE DATABASE WHICH BEGS TO BE PUT DOWN FOR GOOD. So now we're gonna have a clusterfuck of tons of PHP microservices (Q_Q) which interact through plain HTTP APIs (swagger's gonna be put to a test) and all have a single broken database in the center. Talk about a microlithic design. Jesus Christ.9

A follow up about Mozilla IRL spotify radio.
Very interesting talk relates to internet and privacy in gerenal. (Not about programming btw)
Eg: Bose headphone app sends your data to data broker,
which ransomware rated with top customer service,
how to setup a bait for catching Twitter bots
It feels like Mozilla is fighting for justice.
I'm totally sold.3 -
If you want a self stem boost talk to some non programmers sometime. They seems to see us as gods with some mystical magical powers!!
Talked with a broker today and he told me about a damaged computer that he had with some important files. I told him that I'm not that kind of computer guy and proceeded to explain him briefly what I do (I build stuff) and he was like "oh, so you a the the REAL computer guy!" (no offense to any technicians here!)
I loved it!
So, get out and talk to the muggles and stop complaining that you are not good enough to work for Google (or Google is not good enough for you anymore anyways...)5 -
Ayyyyy folks
I'm looking for some beta testers. Preferably if you use a MQTT broker with some IoT connected shit.
Bonus points for IFTTT.
Leave something in the comments if you're interested and I'll get in touch if the time has come4 -
I need you guys' help.
As mentioned earlier in one of my rants, I trade stocks part time, make a little money. But I am too tired from my full time work. So it is badly affecting my health. My broker is providing us with an API and docs at a monthly fee to develop software to automate trades.
I posted a job on Upwork, a few freelancers bid but their price was way beyond my budget.
Hence I decided to take up programming.
I was initially inclined towards C#, but seeing as how complex it is, I was thinking of going for python. Do you think it is a reasonable decision?8 -
Long time no see devRant. This rant is dedicated to an MQTT implementation we use. Mosquitto, mqtt.js - FUCK YOU.
I spent the last fucking 30+ hours trying to find why the bloody fuck the stupid server / client won't connect to the shitty mqtt broker. From changing all possible config, enabling & disabling specific code nothing abso-fucking-lutely works.
But then it will randomly decide to connect to the fucking broker, not causing any issues at all. And each fucking day when I wake up again and think to myself: oh today I can actually leave when it is still somewhat bright outside - NOPE. Because guess what? The fucking shitty abomination doesn't work anymore.
I just love these types of problems that are almost impossible to debug because the only logs you get is: "SERVER disconnected". It's impossible to get a proper reason out of this shit show, it's just turned into randomly guessing what the error could be (and especially where it could be).
And each time I got it to work, tested it and let the testing team know that they can start testing it will just stab me in the back and be like "fuck you, I'm not working any more". Luckily it's not like the deadline is next week... otherwise work is great, trust me.13 -
RabbitMQ's claim "RabbitMQ is the most widely deployed open source message broker."
They should amend that line to read "..unless you are trying to install on Windows, then you're screwed .ha ha ha ha"
Two hours fighting permissions, missing (and wrong) paths, having to modify *their* batch files, and still can't access the management UI (and yes, the mgmt plugin is enabled).
I hate this 'shaving the yak' exercise.15 -
Cybergoattechie ETH, USDC Recovery Firm.
It was never an easy ride to recovering my lost investment funds with the help of THECYBERGOAT RECOVERY FIRM. I lost my hard earned funds $600,000 worth of crypto currency when I invested with a binary option site. A broker I met on Instagram last year deceived and lured me into investing with their crypto company. It wasn’t the right decision by me trusting a total stranger with my hard earned funds which really hunted me. Without the recovery services of thecybergoat(@)techie. com, I could have been out on the streets since I could barely take care of the kids let alone paying the rents which were almost due to expire. thecybergoat professionals took control of my case after I had reached out to them which turned around my story. I was in awe the day when thecybergoat sent me an email requesting I send them my wallet that my lost investment funds have been " SUCCESSFULLY RETRIEVED " and on sending my wallet I received back most of my funds which I thought I had lost forever. about $430,000 was recouped. I never thought it would all end up in glory which is why I urge any victim of scam that there is refuge in thecybergoat team with their mind blowing and efficient recovery services. They were equipped with the necessary tools for a successful retrieval pushing themselves beyond their limits to attain remarkable results for their clients. Well, ask me about a recovery firm which is trustworthy and I tell you thecybergoat can be trusted with the retrieval of your lost investment funds. Don’t let doubts stop you from making the right decision and choosing the right and trustworthy recovery firm to handle your case, with the services of thecybergoat recovery firm, you can be sure of a successful retrieval of your lost investment funds.7 -
Okay, so I'm developing a system for a global rent-a-car broker. Basically website + a bunch of third party APIs + analytics, it's been running in production for over 4 years now.
Anyway, we had to connect our system to an external rental insurance API, nothing too complicated, got it to production in a month and it seemed to work okay, except the insurance provider claimed they're not getting any analytics data, which was weird, because there were no errors with API calls, and customers had no problem with the insurance.
After going back and forth for a month, we finally figured what's going on: after each API request, the insurance provider expected us to send the exact same data to their analytics API, because for whatever dumb reason they were unable to internally log requests in their analytics database.
tl;dr: we're doing 2 API calls with the exact same data to different endpoints, because a large rent-a-car insurance provider can't log their own analytics data.1 -

How to Recover Lost Crypto Funds from Fake Online Brokers - Contact OMEGA CRYPTO RECOVERY SPECIALIST HACKER
OMEGA CRYPTO RECOVERY SPECIALIST is so Genuine and the best.
My name is Manuel. I'm from Swiss live in New Orleans. I fell victim to a fake online crypto broker with my investment of $428,000. The broker promised me significant profits and I was initially successful in trading, which built trust with the broker. However, I soon noticed suspicious activities and inconsistencies in the broker's behavior. Eventually, the broker disappeared, taking my funds with them. This experience left me feeling frustrated and helpless, unsure of how to recover my lost funds. I began searching for solutions online and came across Omega Crypto Recovery Specialist. They successfully recovered 90 percent of my funds and I'm grateful. Without the expertise and resources of Omega Crypto Recovery Specialist, I may have never recovered my lost funds. Highly Recommended.9 -

I was trying to set up my own "cloud" for iot experiments. I planned to use Intel Edison with mqtt broker (using mosca) and a node js app for providing API for mobiles and browser. And also to do other book keeping.
I spent the half day trying figure how to expose these servers to internet.
I configured ddns in noip.com and ddns settings configured to it in my router.
Port forwarded to the local server services I needed.
And then tested. Worked perfectly on any device in my router connected network. Tested on mobile network. Bam! It fucking doesn't work.
Then connected another router.
Double port forwarded. Again worked perfectly on router network. And failed on mobile.
Tested if ddns is right. Did nslookup it was fine as fuck.
Then disabled port forwarding. Did dmz. Nope. Nadda. No luck.
Then scratched my head so hard that I lost more already losing hairs.
Then remembered about router hardware firewall. Disabled it.
Tested
And there it didn't work.
My dreams shattered like a fucking deer hit by car on highway.
Didn't work.
Then I see the IP pointing to my router in nslookup. Its 172.20.xx.xx. Its a fucking private IP.
My Asshole ISP is running another private network behind firewall. Which I fucking can't port forward
Now I think how much of a noob and idiot I am. Fuck this shit. Fuck all of these shit.
I am going for SaaS option for mqtt broker.
(Or help me?)
Once again.
Asshole ISP.
Fuck your firewall.
(PS: I had test the next day. FML)2 -
We use ActiveMQ as a broker in one of our system but the messages sent between applications are in query string format, God knows why. Then when one of our new features requires a JSON structure, we had to URL encode the JSON so it can be part of the message . Now the log growth is significantly higher than the version before and no longer human readable.1

If IBM makes a product of something we use, we get it, ClearCase, ClearQuest, message broker, websphere, rational team concert, jazz source control... And a skinned version of eclipse3

Is anyone in the house working on Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB)? If yes, how is the domain and what's the market value of it?

I'm working on broadcasting changes in a SQL Server db using web sockets, but trying to not install anything because then I'd have to get our DBAs involved...
Spent hours trying to package a little node app that broadcasts the changes as an exe using nexe, realized for the most part it just compiles node from source, and the outputted binary didn't end up running, anyway.
Then it hit me; I can just run the node exe without installing it. Now I just have to get this service broker to work... -
I am working on an event driven system that uses a message bus and has a few services that talk to each other asynchronously via the bus.
I'm writing in memory integration tests for one of those services, but I just realised the fundamental flaw here with such tests. I only have 1 application running, but I need several. This is quite a serious flaw I should have seen before.
Anyone else tried integration testing event driven distributed services? I imagine all I can do is stub the message broker...8 -
I NEED HELP with Kafka
I'm working a thesis. I developed 4 different microservices (REST APIs). I would like to use Kafka to support large number of users. I may also place the microservices behind a HAPI Proxy. How can I use Kafka to stream requests and respond accordingly. I'm using Node.js. I think I haven't grasped Kafka. My Prof, suggested I try it to act as a broker but I'm blank right now. How do I tell Kafka I want it do a POST or GET etc?2 -
Turns out... Angular doesnt have a fucking library or a way to communicate directly with kafka that's built on a separate backend!
I would have to either call a REST route to the backend which then forwards transmitting the "real time" request to kafka broker. Or transmit a socketio real time event to trigger kafka.
What kind of BULLSHIT is this? Why the fuck would i use kafka at all then in this case? I could replace it and cut the shit with socketio! Ridiculous!5
